    Nice! Thanks for sharing. FYI, I made one tweak to the config to show the local timezone. In the .conkyrc file, change

    It was working fine on my pi, to include auto start at reboot. I then did a backup of the sd card. After the backup, I expanded the file system on the pi. Now, conky neither autostarts, nor runs at all. I get the following:
    conky: Syntax error (/home/pi/.conkyrc:1: '=' expected near 'yes') while reading config file.
    conky: Assuming it's in old syntax and attempting conversion.
    conky: desktop window (14001c6) is subwindow of root window (374)
    conky: window type - normal
    conky: drawing to created window (0x2e00001)
    conky: drawing to double buffer
    conky: forked to background, pid is 1933
    I note that this is very similar to what others have experienced. I also checked the permissions in the conky directory, and they are as follows:
    -rwxr-xr-x 1 pi pi 218 May 30 07:31 get-freq
    -rwxr-xr-x 1 pi pi 463 May 30 07:32 get-grid
    -rwxr-xr-x 1 pi pi 141 May 30 07:34 grid
    Any ideas as to what is going on?

    Jason, Fantastic Video, but I had a few problems. 1-Not sure why but several of the commands needed the "sudo" before your suggested command. 2-I have gps running as confirmed by CGPS showing the proper information, but I don't show a grid square -- how do I figure out what I'm missing. 3-I am unable to scroll to show the info at the bottom -- how do I add the scroll feature to the conky window?

    • @KM4ACK
      @KM4ACK  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Not sure why you would need sudo except for the commands listed with sudo and that might be the problem with not getting the grid square. Are the scripts in ~/bin/conky/ executable? If you downloaded (wget) with sudo, they more than likely now belong to root. This could present a permissions issue which won't allow the script to run and grab the gridsqure when called from Conky. As for scrolling, I don't think that option is available in Conky. I am just starting to explore the options in Conky and will report back if I find a way to do it. The Conky template I built was designed to run on 1920X1080 resolution. It should be easy enough to modify my template and remove a few less important items to get it all to fit on a smaller resolution. 73, de KM4ACK

    I ran build a pi. A lot of things are not installing. Conky installs but just gives a black screen. I get this error in the terminal window: cat: /var/lib/misc/dnsmasq.leases: No such file or directory
    Any ideas. I launch conky and its a black screen.

    When I attempt to run conky, I get messages similar to what you had, but nothing appears on the screen. The last line that appears in the terminal is "$tail can't find information about /home/pi/Documents/mylog.txt".

    • @KM4ACK
      @KM4ACK  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I have made some custom mods to conky config file to work with build a pi. Try adding a blank text file to your Documents folder name mylog.txt and see if that will resolve the issue.

      @@KM4ACK Thanks! That did it. I spent time trying to find the variable when all I needed was the text file. Unfortunately, the Conky display exceeds the screen vertically. Everything on screen (I'm using VNC) appears larger than it should, almost as if the resolution is off. I have set it to 1920x1080 according to the instructions in the video.

      No problem. You just told me why my directions haven't worked. Those guys do things differently than I do and put apps/config files in different locations. Check with them to find where teh correct one is hiding. FYI...mixing what I do with their install script could make life a lot tougher for you since you are just getting started. why don't you just do a git clone of the repo into /bin? You don't have to do four separate wget commands. git clone will clone the entire repo, essentially downloading all of those files at once.
