Thank you for your videos. You just saved me from making a big mistake: I was going for a 15” MBA, but I needed at least 16gb of UM & 1 TB of storage… at that point, 2300€ of MBA looked ridiculous! 2 questions: 1) what is the benchmarking app you show on screen while comparing fans speed? 2) is there a chart of SSD speeds that compares MBA & MBP & the different sizes of storage? Thank you!
Have a 16” M1Pro MBP. Fine for travel until weight becomes an issue. Travelled recently with that and a iPad Air M1. Could have used a smaller machine I think…maybe a MacBook Air 13”. Just not sure how nether an Air or a 14” MBP would be better.
I ordered the 16 MacBook M2 Pro 16ram and 1TB SSD. I don’t do anything crazy like 4k video editing. I almost got the 15 inch MacBook Air M2 but decided the mini LED 120 pro motion display won me over. Is 16ram enough? Now I’m thinking if I made a mistake future-proofing the device 🤔
@@TechGearTalk I don’t do anything too crazy other than make some home movies editing those videos a little. New sub excellent breakdown. After review you picked the 16 in the model for me. It seemed it hit the most future proofing spots. I'm saving up to get 32 or 64 GB ram. I usually buy base models from the Apple store. Speakers were one of the reason's I went 16.2 route. SSD 1 TB or 2 TB is all I'll ever need.
I just ordered the base MacBook Pro 16 inch, but with 1tb ssd. Now after watching the video I regret not buying it with 32GB of ram. Does it make a big difference or am I still good to go with 16gb?
I am looking to get the 16 inch MacBook Pro with 32 GB of RAM with the M2 Pro (12-core CPU and 19-core GPU), along with 1 TB of SSD storage. Apps I am reliant on: Final Cut Pro Motion Logic Pro Ableton Live 11 Plenty of external software plugins Finder
Here’s how i look at it. if you need something now, get it now. If you can wait, always wait. You’ll end up getting something better for the same price or the same thing for a lower price. Hope that helps.

Been looking to upgrade to a 16” M2 Max model for 4k video editing and motion graphics. But a part of me wants to consider the M1 Max 16. Any recommendations?
@@pocholofelix there is a %20 percent upgrade approximately, if the render taking 10 minutes on M1 Max it will take 8 minutes on the M2 Max. If you don’t have both you can go for the M2 Max but if you have the M1 Max upgrading is useless.
@TechGearTalk I'm a videographer, I have at the moment the m1 pro 16gb and it's really short I'm between the 16 m1 max or the 14 m2 max.... that's my doubt
16 is too big if you actually need to use it on the go, i.e. I do a lot of coding on the train and think my 13 inch is the limit for doing this comfortably
I’m using my m1 max 16 in plane without issue, its not that big as most ppl think and screen is much better if you are “in the go” also coding and on 16 inch is much comfortable than on 13 or 14
I am currently debating between a 16” M1 Max 32gb for $2499 or a 14” m2 pro 16gb for $1750. I can’t make up my mind. I love the screen, speakers and larger touchpad on the 16” - but I don’t love how cumbersome it is to carry around. I mostly use it at home but even trying to use it on my lap on the sofa or in bed is really uncomfortable. I love the form factor of the 14”, but the screen feels more cramped after using the 16”. So… I dunno if anyone has any opinions or suggestions on what they’d do in my shoes but just wanted to vent and see if anyone could help steer me towards one or the other. Realistically I won’t need all the m1 power and could probably get away with the lower RAM on the 14” model but I got such a great deal on the M1 Max that I don’t really mind if it’s over powered, as I hold onto my laptops typically for many years (I’m upgrading from a decade old asus).
16“ M1 Max, especially since you cant really use the 14“. I had similar issues once…. 14“ model with 1TB SSD or 16“ base model with „just“ 16/512. As much i only would have needed a base M1, but 16/512 at least for a bit futureproofing the Air were not even considered (beside missing SD card slot etc) I was going for the 16“. In my experience you only begin to miss some things the 14“ wont give you as well: touch, pen support, real mobility as with the netbooks called MacBook Air M1/M2. What really proved me right about the 16“ decision (for serious work, multitasking etc) was the fact that with an iPad (prefferable the 11“ Air or Pro) you get just the „perfect“ laptop and the „perfect“ tablet, no need for an oversized tablet or a undersized notebook/laptop.
I personally will suggest 16 inch, and about the performance, will suggest the M1 Pro or m2 pro. About the Size of it, as you are mostly work at home, let's say if you are on desk, then of course 16 inch will works better, unless you have a really small desk. And for on the lap, unless it is really uncomfortable, the height of 16 inch will comfort your neck. But there are also another perspective, if you are the person mostly work on desk, you may want to get an external screen, which will give you 24-27 inch screen size, in that case, 14 inch can save you money and weight, this really depends on your personal need. Oh, and by the way, if you really want a lightweight laptop, unless you really need m1/2 pro power, the m1 MacBook Air or m2 MacBook Air can be really sweet. And the rumors seems to indicate apple is working on a 15 inch MacBook Air, so if you don't need the power and can wait for a while, that one can also be really interesting to look at. I personally had used 2015 MacBook Pro 15 inch and m1 MacBook Air, my next Mac will lean towards to 16 inch, as when I went back to my old 15 inch, even though that's a slow machine, but I quite enjoy the screen size. Specification wise, as you mentioned, you don't need that much performance, so I would suggest you can wait for some good deals for M1 Pro 16 inch if you can wait, as there are a lot of chance those Macs will be on sale, even though it is not such a good price, but overall you will spend less money. So overall it depends on if you have some emergency task to start work on right away (can you still wait for a while), how will you use it, they are both good machines. Good luck and enjoy your life~
Your review came at the perfect time for me. I’m currently using an iPad Pro 12.9” with 4 gb RAM for photo editing. It isn’t working for me anymore now that my camera is 33 megapixels. I’ve begun to think I might need a MacBook with more power. I know nothing about apple laptops, I assume they work similarly to iPad but with more photo managing capabilities? Do you agree that the 14” that you reviewed here would be more than adequate for me now. Than my current 2018 iPad Pro? I don’t do video editing at all. Just photos.
Has anyone ever run a small desk fan blowing across the laptops to cool? Seems like a simple solution to cool them...Never saw a video on that solution....
Bigger and heavier more performance (M1 as well M2 Pro) better screen (noticable!) worse battery runtime I would just go for a 16“, if you have ever used a compact 15,4“ notebook, the 16“ M1/M2 Pro is basically smaller and lighter, best form factor without compromising too much on screen size and even the thermals are better than on 14“ models
Some of the information he provides is incorrect, almost like he is reading a script ready from someone. For example, the battery life is worse especially when pushing the machine, battery will drain faster compared to m1.
Run what you have until it annoys you or falls apart. Then get the absolute best you can afford, and run it until it also annoys you or falls apart. Give or take it being a target of theft, I would concentrate on screen and keyboard and touchpad quality over CPU. After 12 hours of staring at a screen, a bigger better one will prevent a lot of headaches, and that is worth more than CPU speed. For real speed applications, you'll be logging into a mainframe or cluster, anyway.
@@skillsthrillschills803 not really, only: - M1 Air base model, probably a refurbised one with 16GB Ram - M1 Pro 16“ or 14“ if thats really enough display for you - M2 Pro Mac Mini, base model only sadly, if you just need „cheap“ performance and have a desktop setup already and dont need mobility at all Just the 16“ Mini LED screen, noticable better speakers and the 100Wh battery is amazing, in combination with M1/M2 Pro its one of a kind (performance and battery runtime). The M2 Air is not that amazing under permanent load, the M1 Air is! Thank you for your videos. You just saved me from making a big mistake: I was going for a 15” MBA, but I needed at least 16gb of UM & 1 TB of storage… at that point, 2300€ of MBA looked ridiculous!
2 questions:
1) what is the benchmarking app you show on screen while comparing fans speed?
2) is there a chart of SSD speeds that compares MBA & MBP & the different sizes of storage?
Thank you!
Good review, can you tell me what the background wallpaper is on your laptop at the 0:27 second mark?
Those wallpapers are awesome! Do you have a link to them?
If you don't do anything heavy, you'll be fine with 16GB for a long time. CONGRATS!!!
@@TechGearTalk I don’t do anything too crazy other than make some home movies editing those videos a little. Probably as heavy as it’ll get and maybe some light gaming like league or legends or RuneScape. The 15 inch MacBook Air m2 with 24ram 1TB ssd is $700 less than my 16 inch MacBook Pro 16ram 1TB. Did I overspend just to get the pro motion display? Or do you think the 15 Air with more ram is better?
@@vladcodeThe air is plenty it’s can keep up until u start doing the heavy intensive apps like logic & blender 20 minute videos etc.. The air is more then capable & 24gb of ram on the air is a waste it’s already bottleneck at 16gb lol
@@ralph6164 I decided to keep the pro. Specing up the air to 16/1TB it’s only $90 less than a 16/512 pro 14 which is more than enough for most people. I just liked the bigger micro led. Pro motion display and speakers
@@vladcode I had the 14 M1 Pro traded it in eventually got the air m2 base decided that wasn’t going cut we all did see what Apple did in order to have good Air you already in Pro territory some would call it good marketing but it’s just Apple greed to make the all the m2 ssd slower than last year like come on that’s an automatic $200 upgrade & most not going be able to deal with the small 8gb so that’s two must have upgrades that’s just greed 😩
The difference between the two models is only $500 and for long term investment for at least 3-4 years it's is wise to get the 16 inch even the base model

Or
M1 Max 32 core 64gb 2tb

Are any of these good for having? I really want one for productivity but i also want to play games on it
Depends on what you play. In general - I wouldn't get a MacBook for gaming though.
There is no reason to not buy the 16” unless you are on a tight budget or you are a small person with tiny hands. The 16” is king period.
Or if portability is a priority for you.
@@TechGearTalk very true! great video man I subscribed
Yesterday o trade my 2019 intel i7 16” MacBook Pro for the 2023 M2 16”. Awesome upgrade all the way. This is my 4th 16” (two 15” actually) since 2009. This was a very consistent upgrade.
Depends on what you plan to do. Coding? 16 is good. Heavy video editing? 32 for sure.
If you can reorder, I would get the 32. Otherwise, 16 is fine.
I am looking to get the 16 inch MacBook Pro with 32 GB of RAM with the M2 Pro (12-core CPU and 19-core GPU), along with 1 TB of SSD storage.
Apps I am reliant on:
Final Cut Pro
Motion
Logic Pro
Ableton Live 11
Plenty of external software plugins

Should I wait til next year and the M3's come out?
Here’s how i look at it. if you need something now, get it now. If you can wait, always wait. You’ll end up getting something better for the same price or the same thing for a lower price. Hope that helps.

Built in SSD capacity doesn’t really matter if you get an external SSD.

Apple, can you throw in a numerical keyboard for the 16” models?
If you edit videos en Davinci Resolve, which specs would you recommend for the 16 model? Is usually mainly 4K footage in HLG from my Sony A73.

I got a MBP 15" mid-2015, 16GB RAM, 512GB SSD, dual GPU. Should I get the M1 or M2 MBP 16" with 32GB RAM and 1TB SSD?
It depends on your situation. If you do heavy workloads, then yes, do the 16 inch MacBook Pro with 32 GB RAM and 1 TB SSD.
I was looking into getting the 14 inch with 16gb of ram and probably just 512gb of storage for music production. Think that should be all I need??
If just music production, then yes.

M1 Pro 16” 1tb or m2 pro 512gb?
It depends on whether you need more storage or more processing power. Personally I always have to use external storage - but most people don’t. I don’t know what you’ll be using it for so it’s hard to give more specific advice. Hope that helps.

@@pocholofelix there is a %20 percent upgrade approximately, if the render taking 10 minutes on M1 Max it will take 8 minutes on the M2 Max. If you don’t have both you can go for the M2 Max but if you have the M1 Max upgrading is useless.
Wallpaper pack??
please some one answer to me... m1 max 30 cores 16" or m2 max 14"? thanks!
For the vast majority of users - it comes down to size. The performance difference is less likely to make a huge difference (again, for most users).
@TechGearTalk I'm a videographer, I have at the moment the m1 pro 16gb and it's really short I'm between the 16 m1 max or the 14 m2 max.... that's my doubt
16 is too big if you actually need to use it on the go, i.e. I do a lot of coding on the train and think my 13 inch is the limit for doing this comfortably
I’m using my m1 max 16 in plane without issue, its not that big as most ppl think and screen is much better if you are “in the go” also coding and on 16 inch is much comfortable than on 13 or 14
@@ShredzZ did I mention it is just too expensive also? I have handled them i the shop and find them too heavy. 14 or 13, please.
As much i only would have needed a base M1, but 16/512 at least for a bit futureproofing the Air were not even considered (beside missing SD card slot etc)
I was going for the 16“.

How does the 14'' compare to the original 2020 M1 Air ?
Bigger and heavier
more performance (M1 as well M2 Pro)
better screen (noticable!)
worse battery runtime
I would just go for a 16“, if you have ever used a compact 15,4“ notebook, the 16“ M1/M2 Pro is basically smaller and lighter, best form factor without compromising too much on screen size and even the thermals are better than on 14“ models

Some of the information he provides is incorrect, almost like he is reading a script ready from someone.
For example, the battery life is worse especially when pushing the machine, battery will drain faster compared to m1.
Is that Ventura vs. Ventura? I’ve noticed Ventura is a particularly shit version so far

That’s a great setup.

i have the Asus vivobook 14 Oled intel edition. should i keep it or should i get a M1 macbook air as student ?
Run what you have until it annoys you or falls apart. Then get the absolute best you can afford, and run it until it also annoys you or falls apart. Give or take it being a target of theft, I would concentrate on screen and keyboard and touchpad quality over CPU. After 12 hours of staring at a screen, a bigger better one will prevent a lot of headaches, and that is worth more than CPU speed. For real speed applications, you'll be logging into a mainframe or cluster, anyway.
The keyboard(s)/typing experience is the exact same thing as on the Magic Keyboard for the 12.9” iPad Pro, minus the function keys, right?
It’s noticeably better than the iPad Magic Keyboard (which might still be my favorite keyboard case)

@@skillsthrillschills803 not really, only:
- M1 Air base model, probably a refurbised one with 16GB Ram
- M1 Pro 16“ or 14“ if thats really enough display for you
- M2 Pro Mac Mini, base model only sadly, if you just need „cheap“ performance and have a desktop setup already and dont need mobility at all
Just the 16“ Mini LED screen, noticable better speakers and the 100Wh battery is amazing, in combination with M1/M2 Pro its one of a kind (performance and battery runtime).
My 16“ M1 Pro replaced ALL of my computers except the gaming rig. I dont get the M2 Pro/Max hype. The base M2 is pretty good for content creators on a budget, but thats also just the media engine added only the M1 Pro/Max had before.
M1 Pro/Max are just incredible value now considering you get 1TB SSD and partially 32GB or even M1 Max „affordable“.
