Thank you for the step-by-step instructions!!!! I performed the repair of the drain pump and the drain hose on our LG washer myself. My husband didn’t think would complete the project. Not only did I fix the washer today, cooked dinner, I now have time to put my feet up, watch a little television and a load of clothes before bedtime!
sandylash7439 Don’t try to use pliers on the spring. Put a zip tie or small cord through each end of the spring and make each one into a loop. Now you can pull the spring apart with ease. I know your comment is 3 years old. Just adding this for new readers. :)
So… I noticed that this video was posted about 10 years ago, but still helps a lot with showing how to replacing my LG washer drain pump . Took about almost 2 hours to fixed and get it working. for a non professional plumber or mechanic person like me . Thank you very much !!
THANK YOU, BEst Video ever for saving money. I'm a 60-year-old grandmother and I did this MYSELF by watching your video. The worst part was getting the spring wire back on the gasket, don't give up, you can do this. I have one screw leftover (??) but all seems to be working just fine. Thank you for such a detailed well-edited video which just saved me $1000+ on a new washer.

I'm using this video for the fourth time today (had to replace this pump four times in the last 12 years). Thank you so much for posting. You've saved me hundreds if not thousands of dollars in repair bills. Plus my wife thinks I'm handy!
THANK YOU!! Once I got over the fear of removing the gasket spring (actually, more afraid of trying to reattach), the repair took about an hour, including vacuuming time within the cabinet. Biggest help (besides the dreaded spring) was showing the location of the clip holding the pump in place. Once again, y'all have saved a repair call - and my mind. Thanks again.
Yo! Straight up, Even though this was posted 10 years ago… The absolute best step-by-step tutorial! You my guy just saved me so much money! I will say for newer models there are some extra steps, really some extra screws that need to be removed… But this tutorial is by far the best one I’ve found. Thank you so much.
My hubby just finished repairing our LG washer by watching your video. There were a few things to tweak, but he had her up and running in 45 minutes. Now I don't have to listen to that darn pump anymore. THANK YOU
This Man knows 100% what he is talking about. Don't Second Guess any of his Words. There are many Dummy's on TH-cam posting false and sure they don't even know which End of the Screw Driver to Use. Just posting false info. Confusing person that's trying to learn. 2 Thumbs Up to you. The World and TH-cam needs more people like you.
So, I just completed this and let me just say, I am beyond proud of myself. The reassembly was much more difficult than shown here because I chose not to remove the boot and wrestle with that retainer ring, again. That being said, I totally nailed it. How in the hell were we able to repair anything before youtube?
This is the third time I've used your company get the right part and learn how to DIY to fix an appliance. I figure you've saved me hundreds of dollars. Thanks for your time and great web cite. This project took me about a half hour to take apart. Thanks again.
Excellent video! AppliancePartsPros is my "go to" source for appliance repair. I called LG for on-site/out-of-warranty service since they offered a flat rate price of $125-$250 for labor/parts/service. Catch is all of the LG service providers would not schedule anyone to come out for over two weeks! I called a non-LG service providers, told them the drain pump needed to be replaced and they wanted to charge a $85 trip fee to verify the problem and then they would order the part which they stated would take five days! I ordered the part via standard shipping; it arrived they next day. The box showed the part came from LG; I have no idea why appliance companies cannot source the part the same or next day. I had my laptop with me the laundry room and did it step-by-step and had no problems at all. Washer is now back up and running. Thank you AppliancePartsPros!
Hey thanks I've done this twice now using your video as reference. You can also remove the the spring clip by grabbing both loops of the clip with sturdy needlenose pliers and stretching the spring manually if you're afraid of slipping with the screwdriver and scratching the washer. Either way, beats buying an $80 pair of washer spring clip pliers when you're not doing this on the reg.
Have 10+ year old Kenmore that’s basically same as what’s in this video. This video + $25 OEM pump + 1.5 hrs (start to finish w/ clean up of nastiness behind machine and tools away) and we’re back in business. Great video / great explanations.
Just want to say GREAT Video Tutorial!! I have some dogs that decided to pull the cover, housing and drain hose off my beautiful Red LG Front Loader! After 4 months of going to the Laundry mat so I wouldn't have to pay a repair person, I go off my rump purchased the parts I needed pulled your video up and although I was not replacing the pump, I was able to replace my pump drain hose with ease!! I asked my husband, " You think I should go into the Appliance Repair Business?" I saved a considerable amount of $$$ for a job that was easy and all parts that were needed cost a fraction of what a repairman would have charged... Keep up the good work, and thank you!!!
Great video but if you have a newer washer, the process for removing the pump assembly is different. If you’re missing the two screws to remove the pump assembly, do the following: There is a vibration tray with three 10mm bolts you have to remove. The whole pump assembly and metal vibration tray will come out. Remove the four screws to detach the assembly and then continue with the video.
Dang, I wish I had read this before attempting to follow the video. I've now seen this topic referenced by others and wish they would make an addendum to this video or perhaps a written graphic overlay with this information.
Mine went out today and I looked at so many videos on how to repair this and they were all so confusing. I gave it a shot one more time and found your video. I absolutely liked how you showed it step by step. I think this mom can actually do this. I will let you know the outcome. Wish me luck
Thank you very much for this helpful video. It's just what I needed to get this repair done. I wanted to take a second to tell everyone about a big mistake I made with this repair. Instead of going to AppliancePartsPros first to buy the replacement motor, I went to Amazon and bought whatever cheap motor popped up first. BIG MISTAKE - that pump motor shipped in a brown box with no LG markings or part numbers, looked like it was remanufactured (had a warped impeller wheel), and ended up breaking in less than 8 months! So the second time around, I purchased directly from AppliancePartsPros, received a brand new, genuine LG pump motor, and just completed the repair for the second time. Learn from my mistake. Spend the little bit of extra money, and go right to these guys. Not only will you get a genuine part, but these guys are a great company with how they so helpfully put all of these videos out there. They should be rewarded with our business. This whole experience makes me really pissed at Amazon with how they have so many 3rd party, shady sellers on their site.
You're very welcome! I'm glad that we were able to help you with the repair! We also really appreciate your story and recommendation. We offer competitive pricing, but we also offer free technical advice and diagnosis, all OEM parts, and a 365 day warranty!
Thanks for this! Your videos are outstanding and helped me rebuild/refurbish my entire LG washer. That was seven years ago, and it's still running like new. Now Mom's LG has a bad pump, so I'm back again!
Great video...helped me get my washer back up and running! $45 for the pump, a bit of time doing the work...and all is working again! Hardest part for me was the big tube clamp...I couldn't get a pair of pliers open enough to squeeze it tight to get it back on...ended up getting one of the screw tighten type at the hardware store for $2 and that went on in a snap....I was worried about the spring clamp, but it went on with a vice grip just like in the video...this saved me at least a couple hundred bucks....thanks!
I disassembled it all, new part comes tomorrow hopefully. Old pump the propeller shaft thingy looks warped or something, so maybe that was the problem. Disconnecting the wire harness from the door latch was the hardest part for me, took me forever to get it pulled off. I am hoping reassembly isn't too bad when I get the new pump. Thank you so much for this video.
Save yourself a lot of time and pull the washer out enough so that you can lean it back on a 45 degree angle and go in from underneath. That way will only require 6 screws and two wire--pretty easy. You can take out pump motor assembly without disconnecting hoses, etc. just pull the wires, unscrew the motor pump and replace. A much easier fix even if it takes some time to get the washer in a position to work on it.
Yes, accessing the drain pump from the bottom side of the machine is the easiest. I strap my machine to a hand truck, then I tip it on its back. I've done this twice now with my LG combo washer/dryer which is about 15 years old. It's a $20 fix.
@@RustyInSeattle Thanks Russ. Super interesting advise. Have a dolly with xtra tires accesory and strap to hold the load at 45 degrees that I will use when my LG washer ask for a new drain pump.
I watched several videos for this repair. This one had the best descriptions and the camera work showed everything that you would want to see close-up.
Just replaced my drain pump. The hardest part here is to put back the large round spring. I modified it because it was too difficult to put back. I wished I have seen this video first. This video shows how it is done the right way, with a vice grip.
We're glad you found our video helpful! Next time you have an appliance repair to do, check with us first, and maybe we can save you some time and trouble. :)
This video was excellent. I have a Kenmore Elite and how the pump was attached was different than this video but this video got me to where I could access it and replace the pump. Took me a total of an hour to do with just a screw driver and pliers. Saved me a ton of money on repair fees! Thank you again!
Well, it ends up I had a shaft seal failure allowing fluid to migrate behind the impeller and filled the cavity with fluid. All that fluid was causing the terrible vibration. The motor stator assembly was fine. Just need the pump assembly without the motor. Wonder if it can be sold that way?
Fantastic video. Grateful for the steps - and the work of AppliancePartsPros. I went into this, trusting that I could with the step by step. In addition to the pump failing, found that water hoses were partially clogged and draining (especially in the seal) was clogged. Doing it myself gave me the opportunity to address these other issues and make it a well running machine.
fantastic video I was born without a left hand and took the pump out in one hour ,ordered with the new one with 2 day delivery so I dont forget how to put it in it would be great if I could reassemble it in less than one day lol great video thanks
Great video, easy to follow. Only care needed if model happpens to be different. In my case it was WM0642HW & front door electric connection bit different (in fact bit easier)…means we just need to remove just the nuts rather than separating the wire from switch/lock. Also while attaching the wiring to the drain pump more care needed as did not find “N” marked clearly at respective places, making me go over the video couple of times. Last better to mark water taps on the wall to indicate one is hot water, just to avoid last minute dilemma. It’s a awesome resource made available for “DIY’ projects. If seniors are attempting to do it may be care be taken as it does demand decent time engagement. Thanks once again.
Followed the guide today and it worked like a charm. I did come across one extra screw that wasn't shown here, but it is understandable since all models can he slightly different with revisions, etc.
First I'd like to commend APP for their great videos... love the style! I'm guessing what I encountered may be associated with newer models produced after this installation video was created. I fixed an LG WM3270c that was installed in early 2017. 1) My lid didn't just slide off to the back like in the video. I tried using 'rubber gripper doodads' used to remove stuck jar lids and that didn't work. Sticky 'wide receiver gloves' didn't help either. On my model I used slightly damp hands pressed against the top of the lid and then a quick forceful push from front to back released the lid. 2) I couldn't figure out why the User Interface didn't just 'pop off' like the video... I had a single small screw affixing the UI to the frame and it was found in the upper right corner. 3) I wasn't fortunate enough to have the pump held in place by the clip. Instead, I found (3) 10mm bolts securing a metal tray that had the pump unit attached to it. *** On this topic, a notation to your video would be greatly valued *** After fumbling around for longer than I'd like to admit I was fortunate enough to find an alternative video that made reference to the bolts. The whole tray has to be removed to replace the pump 4) Lastly, somewhere here in these reviews/feedback I read about using zipties to remove the rubber gasket spring loop. Thank you, this worked BRILLIANTLY. There is no need to risk scratching your machine or puncturing your gasket with a screwdriver. Just attach a ziptie to both loops of the spring and then you have an easy hold to grab and spread the spring which releases tension on the loop and POOF! It's off. This technique was just as effective when reattaching the rubber gasket spring loop.
Very good instructional video. My only complaint is he should explain a spring expansion tool ( e.g. special plyer) is required for installing back the spring on the Boot on a front load washing machine. This is almost impossible to do it without the tool.
Not true. His vice grip method obviously worked but I found that attaching a zip-tie to the loops of the spring made for an easy option to grab and expand the spring for removal as well as replacement.
Thanks for the informative video. I was able to order the drain pump and replace it with no issues so the wife is a happy camper now. I also replaced the circulation pump while I had it all taken part and all worked well. Thanks again!
Excellent tutorial! I just replaced the pump, but probably didn't need to -- the drain hose (and the smaller recirculation hose) were completely clogged with nasty sediment which is probably what was causing the problem. I went ahead and put in the new pump while I was in there since I'd already ordered it and it was so inexpensive (plus the original is 11 years old, so was probably time to replace anyway).
@@appliancepartspros Thank you for posting this video it is excellent. I found the answer to my problem (clogged pipe where dispenser soap goes in). After reading this post, I was able to give it a try and disconnect the pipe and clear it from 12 years of soap scum! My husband couldn't be happier I was able to fix it! You rock! If drain pump goes I will definitely know what to do :-) My model washer is wm2377wc.
Great step by step instructions. My washer had an extra screw when removing the control panel but other than that it was exactly what I needed to repair my own washer!!! Yay Mom!
Thank you for this. A repair man told me I'd have to pay $185 an hour for labor and over $100 for the part that is only $20 (OEM) NOPE! TH-cam to the rescue!
Rule #1 - ALWAYS READ THE COMMENTS! :) Helpful tips abound in them! Read this full comment for advice on easily installing that big spring clamp ring! Rule #2 - Don't force anything. You may break something and make the repair much more costly. Every model is different, this pump is used in dozens of makes & models. The control panel on my machine wouldn't pop off after releasing the clips, I found a single screw toward the right side, going into the back of the panel. Also, my pump assembly was not held in by a clip, it is mounted on a metal plate, which is held in by three 10mm bolts. Use a socket, ratchet, and 3 in extension to get them out. Pull assembly out, and dismount the pump assembly from that plate to remove the pump motor. Take a picture or note which color wires are on top & bottom position, so you can put them back the same. My new motor had no markings at the terminals. Ok, now for installing that big bad spring ring clamp on the door boot? I struggled for a while trying doing it myself, using channel lock pliers, (couldn't find my vice grips). Impossible. Maybe if I had a helper to guide the ring while I stretched the spring... But in reading through dozens of comments, a lady mentioned using zip ties to install that spring. So I grabbed 2 and put one through each eyelet on the spring, zipped the ties into large loops, and was able to EASILY pull those 2 loops to spread the spring and slip it into place! Genius, whoever thought of that! No special tool or vice grip needed. My zip ties were 11 inches long, but any size about 8 inches or longer should work fine, you can get a bag of them cheap at auto parts or home improvement stores. Our 6 year old Kenmore (built by LG) stopped draining, threw the OE code. Ordered this drain pump from Appliance Parts Pros on Tuesday, received it on Thursday, (standard shipping, 2 days, as promised, thanks!). Installed it Thursday night, using this excellent video as a guide, and the washer is back to working perfectly! Thank you Appliance Parts Pros!!
That is how my pump is installed. Thanks for the details on which bolts to remove. Before removing the front of the machine I had 2 more screws to deal with. One held the plastic cover of the drain area on. And another was right behind that cover. These had to be removed to lift the front panel out of the bottom clips. At that point there were no more screws on the front of the pump like in the video.
I sure wish I'd have found your feedback prior to attempting this job. I also had the screw in the upper right corner of the user interface as well as I fumbled around for quite a few minutes feeling for the release tab on the pump but it was also affixed with 10mm bolts. Lastly, I also read about the zipties somewhere and it was brilliant!
took mine apart tonight removed pump ,,the comes a part i removed the stater (the center ) just pulls apart it was full of trash and black gunk i cleaned reinstalled have done 3 loads so far working great (new pump will be here Tues.) you might try it ...Good Luck ..THANKS for the video.
Yep awesome video. Replaced drain pump and rotor position switch (wan't sure which one was causing the issue). Figured since I was doing one, do them both. $80 fix and back in service! Thanks!
I am so glad to have found this video. Now to order the pump and get the washer fixed. I am sure that I will be able to do it without a hitch, thanks to the video and the AppliancePartsPros.
Whenever dealing with a screw that screws into plastic be careful not to strip the plastic threads. Set the screw in place and rotate it backwards very slowly. You should feel it drop into the existing plastic threads. Now screw it in.
Great video, but you missed a critical step that makes this operation considerably less complicated. Most LG washers are open at the bottom. If its not mounted to the options drawer riser, you can turn the machine on its side and there is no cabinet dis-assembly. It becomes a 5 minute job.
Michael Harris While taking it apart may be the longer way it is the the way to go. These washers are heavy and sometimes just pulling it out to get the top off can be a challenge. Also if you lay it on the side you have to put in the shipping bolts or the tub could bounce around and come off the suspension.
Please, please, please add a warning note to your video that sometimes the washer will not have the little release tab to remove the pump. Instead, the pump will be screwed onto a plate that limits vibration. In that case, you have to unscrew the 3 screws to remove the plate from the bottom frame. And then remove the two screws on the bottom of the plate to release the pump! I spent two hours trying to locate the release tab that wasn't there! Otherwise, great video.
Agreed. I just encountered this on my LG WM3270c. Generally, this video was a good guide (I like his style) but I had to find the '3 bolt info' on another video. I'm guessing that this differing setup is associated with models produced after this video was created.
Amazon vid. I'm not a repair man but managed it fine (so far). Only issue is the WM3050CW 2014 model of the drain pump doesn't have a clip to pull the motor off. I had to remove the mounting bolts, then additional screws that attached the motor to the plate. Not really easy but manageable. Thank you immensely. My next replacement purchase is from you guys. P.s - now the compressor on my Maytag PSD262LHEZ isn't kicking on after moving it up the steps. Any suggestions?
Rob Kuhar Glad the video helped you get the washer fixed! I would check all the wire connections to be sure nothing came loose. You can also post the problem along with the appliance model number on our repair forum and the techs can help you troubleshoot the problem.
ATTENTION: I had to replace the pump in my lg washer machine today and i found a way faster and easier way to replace the pump! Take the coin catch cover off then unscrew the screws that above the coin catch then tilt the washer so the right side is in the air and there is a big opening under the washer then locate the pump under the pump there is a slide that clips in the bump houseing push the tab so u can slide it out then take the two hoses off and the pump comes right out! This only took me 10 min from start to finish
It looks like there are two pumps, one on the left and one on the right. Is that correct? Do I need to replace them both? Are they both the same part number? BTW, I ordered the LG tool for removing the spring wire ring assembly and it worked perfectly. I'd recommend it for sure for folks clumsy like me. Thanks for making this video.
We had someone come out 3 times to repair our washer under a SquareTrade warranty. He replaced the pump on the left twice. He also replaced some other parts like the PCB board and tubing. He then said it was the other motor that needed to be replaced as the issue was never resolved. It gives an OE error and doesn't drain. Ultimately SquareTrade just paid me off with a check which more than covers the cost of the washer. I'd like to just order the second motor and do this myself. Do you think that might fix the issue? THe tech seemed to think it would but honestly, he didn't seem all that technical to me so just want to be sure before I waste my time.
I replaced my drain pump in my LG washer according to this video. Everything went smooth, but its still not working! Still throwing the error! Not draining!
Does this video apply to my 2017 LG WM3997HWA? Do you know if my model uses philips heads also? Thanks for this, mine is in a tight spot, can't tilt it back, so I'll need to take it apart. May just skip trying to use my Lowes ext. warranty and do this myself.
Thank you. Thank you Thank you !!!!!!! For the tip at 12 18 couldn't figure out how to stretch the spring effectively to put it around the gasket!! With tears of. Relief Thank you!
Should I still replace the drain pump even though I found out the OE code was from paper money clogging the rubber bellow drain hose and the drain pump is fine on my 10 year old LG FL? I bought a new drain pump since I couldn't find a kink or clog in the drain hose and the drain filter wasn't clogged. When I was installing the new pump, I discovered the dollar bills in the rubber drain hose that connects to the pump housing. Since my machine is 10 years old, should I install the new pump anyway since the old one may could go out soon since it is 10 years old?
Bummer about the stand its on because without that you can go in through the bottom. I just tipped mine back and undid the screws around the drain plug. Three screws hold the pump in place. One of those goes through the plastic cover and two under that. There is a plastic release tab that holds the assembly's foot. Then without undoing any of the hoses, three screws on the old pump come off. New pump in. Remember to push through the drain hose before you attach to pump assembly to the front, then the plastic cover, clip the hose, two screws and stand it back up. Six screws and no need to mess with the door.
Hi great video I am replacing the drain pump for WM2501HWA with the 4681EA2001T. The pump looks identical but is an inch longer so the plastic cover does not fit. i noticed on your video that the cover is more like the cover on the circulation pump. I will check to see if someone switched If not can I install the pump without the plastic cover.
Kevin O'Connell We were able to swap the cover over without any problems in the video. They have not changed the part number since we made the video so I would think it would fit. If you have problems you can always post the problem along with the appliance model number on our repair forum and the techs can help you out!
Thanks after looking at the video again I realized I was changing the circulator motor. The two are identical except one is smaller Replaced the drain motor and it all works. Thanks again
So, if I have my washer in a pretty tight space and dryer mounted on top, could I undo my mounting brackets, slide the top of dryer with dryer on top back two inches and still get the control panel off without removing the dryer? Otherwise I need to take off a bathroom door, get a couple hands to pull dryer down, etc. I’d rather not go through the hassle if those retaining clips can be reached without removing the top. I have a ratcheting screw driver and even a full car trim tool kit should I need it for those retaining clips. Thx in advance!
I would literally need to remove a bathroom door and get 3 people to move the dryer out, do the repair and reverse the process. I live in a cracker box.
Great Video, can these Pumps fail in a way that they still pump, but make a huge racket. My LG Model WM3987HW starts to make a lot of new noise just during the drain cycle, but water does drain.. Is the Pump 110 volts so as to be bench tested for noise? Thanks Steve
I did finally inspect the pump, it does use 120 volt line voltage, bench tested it and it ran good and quiet, Cleaned both the pumps and put them back in. The loud noise is still there and still a mystery.
Steven, can you detect at all where the noise is coming from on the washer? Top, bottom, left, right, back, front, etc? It could perhaps be the motor on the unit or maybe the water valve.
Thanks for the follow up question, the All in One Washer Dryer is 4 years old and has about 6 medium loads a month, even had a 2 year break with no use when I had to leave town to stay with my Dying Dad to be his care giver in his last days. I have returned to my home about 10 months back and the Washer started with the noise about a month ago. The noise is loud but only lasts for maybe 40 to 60 seconds, The washer is such a echo chamber it is hard to tell where the noise comes from, but happens maybe 4 times during a wash cycle, it does seem to happen at the start of each Drain cycle. The last Drying cycle there are no unusual noises so I kind of think that rules out the Main motor. You have given me a idea to remove the top of the machine and run a load. I would have to camp out in front of the machine though because the noise happens for such a short period each time.
Steve, if you'd like, you can call us at 1-877-477-7278 or chat us online at appliancepartspros.com and we can get some more details about your machine to help troubleshoot it.
Prior to replacing drain pump motor, all wash modes worked but didn't drain. After replacing pump and reassembling, the washer isn't detecting anything. It turns on but when setting to varies wash modes or spin, it doesn't operate. No error codes are given either. Any suggestions?

Thank you for replying. I did order the part and was able to get it done. So far so good, all is working. The wifey is "excited" she can once again do laundry.
I am replacing the drain pump on a LG WM2455HW. There is no 'L' or 'N' printed or stamped anywhere on the motor or the cover. How do I know the proper connection for the brown and black wire? Thank you.
there is part number AP4436514. Is that what you are looking for? Below is the link to the part so you can look at. www.appliancepartspros.com/lg-casing-pump-3108er1001b-ap4436514.html
Not all LG washeres have the two pumps...one on one side one on the other as shown in the video. My wm2277hw just the drain pump on the left not the circulating pump on the right, caused a bit of confusion at the parts store because I'm the " fix it once"kinda guy & I wanted to do everything associated with this issue so I wouldn't have to go back in l8tr to fix a problem that was right next to the problem I just fixed...but only one pump in the wm2277hw. The parts guy said they have seen a ton of these go bad but not so much for the recirculator pump. He also stated for u guys with the two pumps that if your not pumping it out it's the drain pump if it's not washing correctly or getting in the tub correctly it would b the circulation pump...fyi
A single part can be compatible with many different appliances. We film the part on a single appliance model to serve as an example of the repair, but there may be slight variations in the process for different models. Thanks for the additional information about how the repair went with your particular model!
Do you know how to remove the pump assembly from a WM8000HVA? I have gotten this far, but it appears to be connected differently from the older model shown in this video.
not sure if the year matters. Mine is around 2012. It is like above, required 3 bolts to be pulled at the base to get the assembly out. There was no front screws as shown here. Once out, it required 4 screws to be removed to get the bracket off the pump so it could be taken appart. 2 at the base, one in front under the filter and one in the back bellow the discharge. Then the 3 screws around the pump as explained in the video. The only differences I found were 1 screw in the right hand side for the face panel instead of it just being clips, and 2 extra screws for the front cover /door assembly plus a clip on top. The door assembly then had to be tilted away from the washer so it could be lifted off a bracket area that held it up.
Your description says this pump replaces 4681EA1007G. I can confirm this is NOT true. This pump protrudes out slightly more and does not close up properly into the assembly
On my washer, WM1814CW, purchased in 2006 or 2007, the door gasket does not slip off so easily after I remove the ring clamp. In fact, it won't budge a millimeter. Can anyone advise?
There is on clamp on the outside and another one on the inside with your model number. Glad you were able to get to the pump. If there is anything we can help you with please let us know.
Vince Castro The center piece is called the pump casing and on the other side is the recirculation pump/motor. You can go to our site and enter your appliance model number to get the correct ones!
I have a LG model WM0642HW and I has been giving me the OE Code, we have cleaned out all the drain hoses and replaced the pump and the machine still gives the OE code. We than replaced the control board but are still getting the same error code. The problems occurs at 37 minutes, rinse and spin cycle. Sometimes if you thump the machine it will start running again? What would be casing this problem?
+Elizabeth Dennis If you bang the machine and it works I would look for a loose connection or a bad wire in the system. You can also post the problem along with the appliance model number on our repair forum and the techs can help you troubleshoot the problem. forum.appliancepartspros.com/
+AppliancePartsPros Did you check the rubber bellow drain hose that connects to the drain filter? I was getting the OE cod, checked everything and bought a new pump. And when I was installing it I found 4 dollar bills in the rubber drain hose blocking the water. So the pump was fine!
I'm going to try this. Mine just went out today. I'm like no!! I'm scared of that darn spring. Wish me luck.
sandylash7439 Don’t try to use pliers on the spring. Put a zip tie or small cord through each end of the spring and make each one into a loop.
Now you can pull the spring apart with ease.

So… I noticed that this video was posted about 10 years ago, but still helps a lot with showing how to replacing my LG washer drain pump . Took about almost 2 hours to fixed and get it working. for a non professional plumber or mechanic person like me . Thank you very much !!
Glad you were able to complete your repair. If there is anything we can help you with in the future please let us know.

You are welcome! Glad we were able to help you out. If there is anything we can help you with in the future please let us know.
You're welcome!
Yo! Straight up, Even though this was posted 10 years ago… The absolute best step-by-step tutorial! You my guy just saved me so much money! I will say for newer models there are some extra steps, really some extra screws that need to be removed… But this tutorial is by far the best one I’ve found. Thank you so much.
Glad we were able to help you out. If there is anything we can help you with in the future please let us know.
My hubby just finished repairing our LG washer by watching your video. There were a few things to tweak, but he had her up and running in 45 minutes. Now I don't have to listen to that darn pump anymore. THANK YOU
suzi hite Glad the video helped you get the pump changed!
LOL!!!
Dealing with the spring on the retaining ring I put a loop of strong string on both sides of the spring. This makes expanding the spring way easier.
This is the third time I've used your company get the right part and learn how to DIY to fix an appliance. I figure you've saved me hundreds of dollars. Thanks for your time and great web cite. This project took me about a half hour to take apart. Thanks again.
Lenny Dearth Thanks for the orders, we appreciate it! Glad the videos helped you save some money and have kept the appliances up and running!
+MrPaymentSchedule Glad the video helped you get the washer fixed!
Thank you!
Thanks for your kind feedback! We're glad to hear that the video was able to help you out with your DIY repair!
Great video but if you have a newer washer, the process for removing the pump assembly is different. If you’re missing the two screws to remove the pump assembly, do the following:
There is a vibration tray with three 10mm bolts you have to remove. The whole pump assembly and metal vibration tray will come out. Remove the four screws to detach the assembly and then continue with the video.
This saved me thank you
Dang, I wish I had read this before attempting to follow the video.
You're welcome!
+dsatina Hope the video helped you get the washer fixed, Thanks for the tips!
Have a dolly with xtra tires accesory and strap to hold the load at 45 degrees that I
will use when my LG washer ask for a new drain pump.
I watched several videos for this repair. This one had the best descriptions and the camera work showed everything that you would want to see close-up.
Thanks for your feedback! We're glad we could help you out.
Yes my pump was held in with 3 10mm bolts. Not a clip. It also had 4 hoses.
Seriously, this video is a god send. Paid attention to every detail and you saved me a ton of headaches with the detailed step by step. THANK YOU!!!!
Nice diagnostics. Well done.
Couldn't have done this without the video. Very helpful. Thank you so much AppliancePartsPros. It took about an hour and a half to fix.
You are welcome! Glad you were able to fix your issue! If there is anything we can help you with in the future please let us know.
You are welcome! Glad you were able to fix your issue! If there is anything we can help you with in the future please let us know.
I loved this video. No annoying music or other distracting crap
Just doing the job. Exactly what i needed! Thank you!

fantastic video I was born without a left hand and took the pump out in one hour ,ordered with the new one with 2 day delivery so I dont forget how to put it in it would be great if I could reassemble it in less than one day lol great video thanks
Glad the video helped you get the washer fixed!
The whole tray has to be removed to replace the pump
4) Lastly, somewhere here in these reviews/feedback I read about using zipties to remove the rubber gasket spring loop.
Thank you for those tips! Glad you were able to get your unit fixed. Let us know if you have any questions!
Glad the video helped you get the washer fixed!
Awesome, glad the video helped you out!
Yay Mom!
Awesome, glad the video helped you get the washer fixed!
Thank you for this. A repair man told me I'd have to pay $185 an hour for labor and over $100 for the part that is only $20 (OEM) NOPE! TH-cam to the rescue!
You are very welcome. If there is anything we can help you with in the future please let us know.
***** Glad the video helped you out!
Yep awesome video. Replaced drain pump and rotor position switch (wan't sure which one was causing the issue). Figured since I was doing one, do them both. $80 fix and back in service! Thanks!
Thanks, glad the video helped you get the washer fixed!
I am so glad to have found this video. Now to order the pump and get the washer fixed. I am sure that I will be able to do it without a hitch, thanks to the video and the AppliancePartsPros.
Christina Bruns Glad the video helped you get the washer fixed!
Whenever dealing with a screw that screws into plastic be careful not to strip the plastic threads. Set the screw in place and rotate it backwards very slowly. You should feel it drop into the existing plastic threads. Now screw it in.
Great step by step. Is there a difference in the two motors??
What is your model number?
@@appliancepartspros WM2277HS
The two motors on this model are the same part number.
You guys are really detailed....real pros. Thank you for your efforts
The 2 wires brown is in black is black is out is not marked in or out
On harness
awesome play by play to replace the motor, thank you so much! I saved $400
You are very welcome! Glad we could help you!
thanks you guys i just fixed my LG pump and my wife is happy thank you
+Elgin James Glad the video helped you get the washer fixed!
This video is SO helpful! Now we know what to check out--and how to do it. we appreciate.
Would it hurt the pump if the brown and black wires were reversed?
This video is more informative than all the others thank you
Thank you so much for this incredibly helpful video! Extremely well done and detailed!!
OMG, this video saved us a boatload of money! Thanks so much!
You can also post the problem along with the appliance model number on our repair forum and the techs can help you troubleshoot the problem.
the best channel on youtube, thank you!
Glad you were able to complete your repair. If there is anything we can help you with in the future please let us know.
There is usually a drain and a re circulation pump, you can buy them individually, so you only have to replace the one that failed!
It was definitely the drain pump, on the left, it runs terrific now. Thanks for your helpful video.
Thank you so much. You saved me $400!
Jennifer Frisk Awesome, glad you were able to get the washer fixed!
I replaced my drain pump in my LG washer according to this video. Everything went smooth, but its still not working! Still throwing the error! Not draining!
What is the model number of your washer? What error code are you getting?
Great help! This video helped me to get my washing machine back in order quickly! Great job!
Sven Gruenwoldt Glad the video helped you get the washer fixed!
Thanks for the video! Very helpful, particularly the tips on getting the outer door gasket clamp back into place!
You're welcome! Glad we can help.
My lg washer, Same one as yours doesn't have a recirculation pump. Is that normal?
Should I still replace the drain pump even though I found out the OE code was from paper money clogging the rubber bellow drain hose and the drain pump is fine on my 10 year old LG FL? I bought a new drain pump since I couldn't find a kink or clog in the drain hose and the drain filter wasn't clogged. When I was installing the new pump, I discovered the dollar bills in the rubber drain hose that connects to the pump housing. Since my machine is 10 years old, should I install the new pump anyway since the old one may could go out soon since it is 10 years old?
Is it necessary to.use the plastic cover over the drain pump? Mine broke and can't find the cover anywhere.
On our washer you need to use socket to remove 3 bolts holding base on. Remove bolts and continue.
Thanks for the tip, hope the video helped you out!
Same thing, both pump motors are in a metal bracket held in by three 10 mm bolts through rubber grommets.
Where do u see the N or L on drain and circulating pumps??
Bummer about the stand its on because without that you can go in through the bottom. I just tipped mine back and undid the screws around the drain plug. Three screws hold the pump in place. One of those goes through the plastic cover and two under that. There is a plastic release tab that holds the assembly's foot. Then without undoing any of the hoses, three screws on the old pump come off. New pump in. Remember to push through the drain hose before you attach to pump assembly to the front, then the plastic cover, clip the hose, two screws and stand it back up. Six screws and no need to mess with the door.
The best video I found. Thank you! saved me $$$
When we got the cover off found that our washer same model you listed here did not have a re circulation hose is this normal??
Top of washer with the dryer on it is what I meant.
I would literally need to remove a bathroom door and get 3 people to move the dryer out, do the repair and reverse the process. I live in a cracker box.
I am grateful for this video! It helped me.
Martin Steppe Awesome, glad the video helped you get the washer fixed!
Great Video, can these Pumps fail in a way that they still pump, but make a huge racket. My LG Model WM3987HW starts to make a lot of new noise just during the drain cycle, but water does drain.. Is the Pump 110 volts so as to be bench tested for noise?
Thanks Steve
You can take the housing apart to see if something is in there. Check the wiring diagram for specifics on the voltage.
Thanks for the follow up question, the All in One Washer Dryer is 4
years old and has about 6 medium loads a month, even had a 2 year break with no use when I had to leave town to stay with my Dying Dad to be his care giver in his last days. I have returned to my home about 10
months back and the Washer started with the noise about a month ago.
I did all of this my self but still had to call a repairman. I had not pushed the red and black wires onto the pump far enough.
Well done video, thanks.
Prior to replacing drain pump motor, all wash modes worked but didn't drain. After replacing pump and reassembling, the washer isn't detecting anything. It turns on but when setting to varies wash modes or spin, it doesn't operate. No error codes are given either. Any suggestions?
THanks for the video. very instructive and super interesting.
Since you are from Appliance Parts can you please give me the
part nunmber for an LG model WM4299WHA drain pump Thanks
Correction.WM4200HWA.
Thanks, I will call after I spend a little more time trying to place where in the machine the noise is coming from.

any chance you can do a replacement video for my Bosch washing machine model (wfvc5400uc/19)? I am waiting on a replacement part from you guys now. Thanks in advance.
We don't currently have that model lined up to film on, so even if we did, it would probably take too long to be of help to you. It does take us several weeks to source an appliance, purchase the parts, film all the videos on it, edit, qc, and post them. However, that doesn't mean we can't help you out! Thank you for replying. I did order the part and was able to get it done. So far so good, all is working. The wifey is "excited" she can once again do laundry.
That's great to hear! Glad it's working again.
I am replacing the drain pump on a LG WM2455HW. There is no 'L' or 'N' printed or stamped anywhere on the motor or the cover. How do I know the proper connection for the brown and black wire? Thank you.
Phantom Rider If it is a 120V motor it does not matter, I would just install it and put the connectors in the same spots.
very good......step by step- good job!!!! thanks eric
Nice job getting the washer fixed, glad the video helped out.

Thank you so much! Awesome instructions!!!
Glad the video helped you get the washer up and running!
Not all LG washeres have the two pumps...one on one side one on the other as shown in the video. My wm2277hw just the drain pump on the left not the circulating pump on the right, caused a bit of confusion at the parts store because I'm the
" fix it once"kinda guy & I wanted to do everything associated with this issue so I wouldn't have to go back in l8tr to fix a problem that was right next to the problem I just fixed...but only one pump in the wm2277hw.
What does the washer clamp assembly do? Mine was rusted and broke when I took it off.
Its not locking anymore. Is it because of that or did I break the lock?
What is the model number of your washer and we can look into this for you.

Now then motor is spinning but the drum isnt@@appliancepartspros
why can't we unscrew from bottom 3 bolts that are holding motor(pump) then reinstall new one?
Do you know how to remove the pump assembly from a WM8000HVA? I have gotten this far, but it appears to be connected differently from the older model shown in this video.
We do not have a specific video for that model. This one may be helpful but you may have to adjust the procedure for your model.
not sure if the year matters.
There are two clamps that you would have to remove. Did you remove both of them?
No. I didn't know about the second clamp. It wasn't mentioned in the video. I put the washer on its side and got at the pump from the bottom.
There is on clamp on the outside and another one on the inside with your model number. Glad you were able to get to the pump. If there is anything we can help you with please let us know.
Thanks for saving my bacon!
What an Awesome video... ty😉
You're welcome!
What's the pump or component on the right side of the drain assembly?
Vince Castro The center piece is called the pump casing and on the other side is the recirculation pump/motor. You can go to our site and enter your appliance model number to get the correct ones!
AppliancePartsPros thank you for your quick response great video.
Vince Castro You are welcome, glad the videos helped you out!
Thanks, very well done.
Glad you got the washer up and running!
Thanks
