      I used this yesterday to check a car that crashed into my dads 04 plate focus on the 16th august although the car that caused the accident was showing as insured and only a few days mot left it turned out the other vehicle had already been written off 2 months prior to the accident so really other car should not have been on the road.

    What we’re the T&C of the turbo purchase? Many companies will not cover issues unless they fit them. It’s a huge grey area for customers who put their faith in others, often they get stuck in the middle at their cost. I always get delicate parts like turbos from the garage who fit them, that way they take 100% responsibility.

    That noise is waste gate leakage. They are liable for further costs and don't forget to add your admin charges and associated costs. You need to speak to a lawyer and make sure that those costs are included too.
    I recently had a similar problem with a cylinder head, stripped it and sent it for pressure testing due to a suspected crack, report said all OK, rebuilt engine, started and same fault, coolant over pressurising, stripped again, returned to testers and spoke with them personally, they claimed they found no leaks, I asked them to show me the test rig, they took me through and showed me, they even did the test on the head again, then I noticed that they never blanked off the exhaust ports, they responded with "they don't have the equipment to do that", so I showed them their test report paperwork which states the Exhaust was blanked and leak present, I then showed them the now highly visible crack between the #3 port and water jacket. worse than that, it had propagated to the oil channel and when draining the oil we got the dreaded milkshake, leading to a full oil system flush/rebuild. The claimed they were not responsible, correspondence started and 3 months later and a trip to court with my lawyer, we proved that their deceit, incompetence and fraudulent claims of abilities left me with a victory and full recouping of all costs incl, £25 for every phone call I had to make with them. Do not try this without a lawyer who specialises in this area, and also contact trading standards for their county, they may be on a watch list and they too will help.

    Before you go crazy with the turbo company bud, check oil pressure to it, if it's low, clogged pipe it'll just keep blowing turbos, I did one on a Peugeot, he'd completely not maintained it, oil was rubbery tar, I cleaned it all out, did a proper job, turbo only lasted a while, looked like low oil pressure, having said that companies use cheap Chinese cartridges in their re con turbos, but tbh if its basically blown 3 I'd go for lubricant problems.Not done a dacia so I'm not familiar with them, but on the 1.6 hdi engines, Ford, citroen, ones they won't warranty them as there so prone to oil problems, I always use Reco turbo at Doncaster and have had great service and free mugs!!

    I don't understand the obsession about low mileage on older cars.
    Low mileage usually means the car was used for stop and go driving and probably got to proper operating temperature infrequently.
    Low mileage older cars driven like that are usually in worse mechanical condition then cars that have been driven higher mileages and maintained properly.
    Most mechanical wear takes place when the vehicle is below operating temperature and driven in stop and go traffic.

    • @docthebiker
      @docthebiker ปีที่แล้ว +1

      With you on that. Anything with less than 2000 miles a year on it has likely only rarely got to operating temp, or spent long periods sitting drying out seals and putting rust rings in the cylinder. Any car you need to ask "why?" is worth avoiding. But people like unrealistically low miles and don't ask "why?"
      If you flip it put a good warranty on it James.

    • @jasonhobbs5611
      @jasonhobbs5611 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I do agree, however it does depend on the model of car your talking about. My focus ST covered 1200 miles last year. My car is always run upto temp then driven lightly for the first 15-20 miles to allow the oil to get up to a good temp then I can put my foot down a little 🤫
      But I love a good high mileage hero cheap and cheerful I'm not a badge snob either. In fact I'll drive anything a bit like James really but hot hatches have always been my thing.

    • @Taz6688
      @Taz6688 ปีที่แล้ว

      You have a point but it depends on the car and how its been treated, I was going to buy a car, there was a 8 year old car, opened the door it still had the new car smell, this was before it had been valeted, the engine looked new and was ticking over like a sewing machine, it was immaculate, one owner so I bought it, had it for another 6 years, sailed through every mot, never gave any issues, the same car could have been sat outside near the seaside, unloved, not maintained, it's always down to the total package.

    • @williamegler8771
      @williamegler8771 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Taz6688 mechanical wear and tear is still at its worst when a car is only driven in stop and go traffic and not brought up to temperature.
      It doesn't matter how good it smells and a higher mileage car can go through its MOT too
      A MOT is no guarantee of mechanical condition either.
      A vehicle can require a lot of repair between MOT's.
      Chop's sells all his vehicles with a MOT and several of them have required repair, some pretty significant, within six months.
      Even some vehicles described as "IMMACULATE".

      @@williamegler8771 I have seen fleet cars well maintained that are a heap of rust, my old boss ran his into the ground, he hated it and abused it, someone bought it thinking it was ok. as I said its the total package, if the car is good inside, no rust, good engine then I would buy it, I have seen cars with low mileage and underneath rusty as hell, others clean as a whistle, mine was low mileage and was quiet ticking over, never used much oil and was still good when it died from being hit by another driver not looking.

    Yonks ago I had a turbo fitted by Turbo Technics in Northampton. The tech took it out for a run, came back saying "it's working, but something feels off. I'm going to ask a colleague to check it out". A while later they said they were putting a second one on as they weren't happy the turbo was perfect - and sorry for the delay, grab yourself a coffee etc. Had the car for 35k miles after with no issues and it ran better than ever.

    The small capacity, turbocharged engine issues, irrespective of vehicle manufacturer, just go on and on. If they're not properly serviced/over serviced, and driven with a little mechanical sense, you'll have trouble. NEVER labour the engine in too higher gear, ALWAYS use a good quality fuel system/injector additive to keep the carbon down, and minimise pre-ignition. ALWAYS use exactly the correct engine oil, If it says 0/20 on the cap, use 0/20, not 5/20 or 5/30. If it needs Dexos 1 gen 2, only use Dexos 1 gen 2, NOT Halfords own label. NEVER buy cheapo 'refurb' 'Alispeed turbos. ALWAYS minimally go OEX. Try and use E5 if available, the E10 Sunflower juice destroys small high tune motors.

    I'm currently taking Porsche GB to court over their refusal to reimburse me for the damage caused after a suspension part failed in 2020. The part was already under investigation due to a fault in manufacturing when the car was built, it affected Caymans between 2013/14. They did a recall in 2021 but insist that the cost of the replacement I had fitted in 2020, labour and the damage caused when the part failed is my responsibility. The Consumer Protection Act says different, but they won't accept responsibility for 'work carried out outside of the dealership network'. The dealers were shut due to covid, but the part failing was the problem.

    You should be able to plug a manual oil gauge into the oil pressure sender, I'd deffo check that, if oil pressure is low then all the new turbos in the world aren't going to last. All most of these companies do is fit a new Chinese cartridge in the turbo, but tbh if you've got good lube they should be OK, 99% of ongoing turbo problems are lubrication related, a garage I knew fitted 4 until they noticed they'd kinked the oil feed, at the minimum I'd take off the oil feed, wrap it in a plastic bag and see how much oil comes out, should be loads.

Cowboys like these are becoming more and more common now, and while I can see members of the getting taken by them time and time again, it seems strange that someone in the trade would get had over so easily? They will have already been taken to court hundreds of times, and while after about a year, and a lot of expense, getting a judgement against them seems likely, there will be almost zero chance of getting it enforced.

    CarVertical again. Not Chops woe. Mega channel. Truth of the trade. Maybe I’ve heard CV once too many times. I even even Cvv ticker crypto coin so know the company. I’ve had turbo noise each every way after 8000 cars. I refuse a small THP esque petrol turbo and any Turbo diesel. Strange as may be. Work on risk reduction strategy. We don’t need fill in turbo cars in the trade. Sell just easy mechanical cars. One of em. Jobs tough. It just is.

    Just a quick queery on the turbos.Once they were fitted were they set up on boost correctly? If not they can blow by or even blow up if theres not adequate over pressure relief.Also when a turbo is rebuilt its needs balancing much like a wheel or propshaft.

    That Turbo sounds a bit like my last Girlfriend! Don’t worry about the car being an ex-driving school car. The examiner will do a visual check of the exterior and the interior before the start of the test. There must be no warning lights on and all tyres and lights must be in good order. They can even refuse it if the car is particularly dirty or the screen wash is frozen. You could park a driving school car with 150k on the clock next to a new car and it would be difficult to tell the difference

    You got no chance for extra costs, they are only legally responsible for the replacement to be provided or a refund provided
    Especially with used and refurbed parts, they only have to gaurentee and replace.
    They would only be responsible if they were providing and fitting themselves
    As someone that works with garages, this would be something you would obviously really know
    If this was the case people could be putting in claims all day for anything and fraud would be rife
    Install shit parts and make mad claims for everything to fix your shitbox

    Good luck with the small claims court. If they are as dodgy as the sound though you will probably win the action, they’ll just ignore it. Happened to my friend. Put his Suzuki Vitara 4x4 in for an engine rebuild, after months of being fobbed off by the rebuild company and of course not having his car took them to court, won no reaction further court action , no response. Finally sent in bailiffs and they came away empty handed because they said there was nothing of significant value in the workshop. So he has lost the car and is heavily out of pocket on court costs. That’s the problem - these courts have no real teeth if the person being sued ignores it all then there’s nothing you can do. Ok they have a judgement against them but they probably have hundreds already!!
    Still wish you luck mate. I reckon the low mileage used one should be a good fix though. Probably better than a rebuild from an unknown company.
