I will watch any "I bought a cheap" video you release, no matter the vehicle. There's something entertaining about seeing a truly cheap car, wondering how good or bad it will be.
This is so so nostalgic for me. My dad had one of these for 5 years, same year wheels and all but silver. 2.5 turbo diesel manual and had full cream interior. Massive fun, amazing on and off-road, decent MPG if you drive it a bit more daisy day to day, and it only had very few things go wrong with it. In the end it had to go as it had 180k miles on it and the rear subframe started to get holes in it. It was sold and used for another year before it wasn’t MOTd since 2018 and is probably sat in a field now as the scrap marker still hasn’t been fulfilled.
Yet here I am, with my 20 year old Ford Fusion, which was much cheaper brand new, not a spot of rust. Looks like a brand new car from the underside. Kia should really be ashamed of themselves.
We had a 2004 Kia Sedona MPV for a few years, this was predominantly used for towing our caravan. For a solo drive it would be a lumpy old bus and cornered like the titanic around the iceberg but put a ton and half caravan on the back and the Sedona came into its own and cruise up steep hills like a freight train. A brilliant workhorse but eventually Hyundai offered us to much money to px it in for an IX35 to turn down. The VED cost was getting out of control too. I was very fond of that big old Korean car, it was so very dependable, powerful and comfortable. Everything we look for in a working car.
I always recommend these to my mates when they want a second hand offroader and see the hefty prices of all the popular ones. These and the Hyundai Terracan are top of my list for good value capability.
Great to see you in a mk1 Sorento, had one for 12 years , only the fuel tank let me down , replace under warrant 14 years old ! Got a later one mk2 lots of problems over the years, but still a great vehicle to use.
In Finland the main dealer wax oiled all Sorentos before they were sold to the first owner. Probably that's why mine has survived without excessive underside corrosion. Mine does also have rusted rear arches, but you can get repair kits for them for dirt cheap and they are easy to replace. By the way, it's a 5-speed auto because it has the tiptronic style gear lever.

I, as an American, can't get over how little yall value used cars over there. Maybe not this specific car. But Matt has reviewed so many that should have a long life left and would be worth thousands if not over 10k if the car was here in the US. So I gotta admit at least when it comes to cars. Yall do seem throwaway. The American car fleet is older than ever before last I heard. My car will be 24 this year. Older than me lol, it would definitely be worth several thousands still.

I`d have lost interest in that heap as soon as i saw what was left of those back arches! and when you showed us the chassis... help! on a more positive note it`ll hopefully fetch you enough to get a new jumper?
I’m a budding welder but crikey. This could be lathered in filler and painted with a brush then flogged to someone unsuspecting. I hope whoever gets it does a good job. For a DIY’er, there’s a few quid here.
I agree with other comments that the first-gen Sorento is probably the car that gave Kia a massive credibility boost in the UK. When I was a kid we used to go caravanning, and these where everywhere at campsites. I thought for a Korean car they were pretty stylish, and I think they've aged well. Shame the same can't be said of the structural integrity! Reminds me of 1990s Fords.
Hi Matt, good video, the band Clannad are from Gweedore, Donegal, Ireland. Their songs included the theme from Harry’s Game. They also did songs with U2. Shame about the rest on Sorrento.

Bit crude to drive but was great in bad weather and was reliable. Wanted a Range Rover Sport and couldn’t afford one , eventually 3 years later sold it and finally got a Range Rover Sport.

i have one of these the 2.5 diesel 170hp , the manual transmission one , the original engine and transmission drove me from january 2007 to late 2019 480000km=230000miles and changed them now it have 540000km=335000mile on it and still going great except the ac doesnt work and the folding mirror and the keyless entry system but its not something bad i'll wiat a couple years and probably buy an automatic one and keep them forever

However I see one thing strange: you stress the importance of doing vehicle history check and how it can avoid you making a costly mistake, yet you had bought that Kia before making the check on it. It would reveal what it did - that the car failed Mot on rust recently and the low price indicates nobody bothered to fix it... So excuse me but what gives?
Love these videos. As Mr Gump says, you never know what you're gonna get (in a box of chocolates or with old jalopies). This one did have that air of impending doom about it from the start though with that much rot. Hope you make a few quid on it though still.
The UK weather kills cars sadly. My father in law lives in Greece and had a VW Passat from 1991 to 2007 and it looked like a new car when he traded it in. No rust issues there. Sadly too many people dont have any respect for their cars and just run them into the ground.
Why don't Japanese and Korean manufacturers put any rust protection on their cars? I know they don't salt the roads over there, but so many of their cars are exported to countries where it is a serious issue. The is even true on cars like the MX-5 which probably is sold much more in Europe than in Japan.
That rear arch rust looks very much like the rust on my Range Rover, burst through from the inside, nothing to looking rotten in a single winter. Cost about 1500 in welding to put right... but on a Kia it probably isn't cost effective!
Has a feeling of " deja vu" when I saw the car features. I thought "Poor Matt, it's another Jeep Cherokee. That's the trouble buying unseen. I guess you still must get more winners than losers but for the novice it's massive risk buying a dirt cheap 4 x4. They just get used and abused because someone needed that type of vehicle as a workhorse so buyer beware!
Braver man than me taking it on the Queen's (sorry, King's) Highway. You could always donate it to a Ukrainian charity desperate for 4x4's (and they can weld anything over there).

I've been looking for a mk2 Sorento since I saw your earlier video and you're right Matt, they all seem to have tow bars. I'm not looking for a tow vehicle so I don't need a tow bar. Should I avoid buying a vehicle with a tow bar? If not, are there any faults, that towing can cause, that I should look out for? Cheers.

Have you had any problems with the 4x4, I put mine on a fuse switch and for some reason won't go back in to 4x4
