Mitsubishi Triton 2020 review

  • If you're thinking the 2020 Mitsubishi Triton looks just like the 2019 model, you're dead right. And it's not just from the rear either, the front is identical too, but it has been updated, barely eight months since the big update we saw at the start of this year.
    Mal Flynn road tests and reviews the 2020 Mitsubishi Triton.
    You can read the full review at carsguide.com.au but just so that you can understand the score at the end here's the breakdown of the eight criterion:
    Does it represent good value for the price? What features does it come with? 9/10
    Is there anything interesting about its design? 9/10
    How practical is the space inside? 8/10
    What are the key stats for the engine and transmission? 8/10
    How much fuel does it consume? 8/10
    What safety equipment is fitted? What safety rating? 8/10
    What does it cost to own? What warranty is offered? 8/10
    What's it like to drive? 7/10
    Verdict
    It's good to see Mitsubishi refining the product so quickly, and the Triton represents a good value, quality ute. It'd just be nice to see the most important active safety gear fitted across the range.

    Upgraded to a 2020 triton, after testing ranger, hilux and dmax. There’s a reason they own the private buyer market - so much better than the competition when you drive them And compare them all, and that’s before you compare the price tags! Do yourself a favour and drive them all yourself and compare. A lot of these company reviews have a real bias. Absolutely love my triton.

    If the Pajero Sport I own is anything to go by (which is based on this), this new one is going to be hard to beat, tech and specs-wise. The Super Select II 4WD is such a boon on- or off-road. Towing is nice and strong, off-road comfort is good, doesn't get scraped as easily as a Hilux/ Fortuner nor does it scramble for traction like the Colorado/Trailblazer does and has enough grunt to reach upwards of 180kph even with 4WD mode engaged. I love mine so much that I'm inclined to purchase a GLS-P Triton.

  • @jaydenladhams6983

    Just in case anyone is interested/concerned. I hear a lot of people complaining that the tub liner is ill-fitting and it is difficult to loop around ratchet straps and thicker lengths of rope to the tie-down points. Yes, for a little while it is, but after lugging a lot of crap around in my triton for the last 6 months i've noticed it it has gotten noticeably easier. Ratchet hooks loop in and come off more easily that they used to and when taking them off I'm not having one hand on the strap and another pushing down the tub-liner. Wether this be because the constant [and demanding] use has loosened the liner a little bit or something else at play I can't really tell you. Anyway, just something to bear in mind and don't let it turn you away.

    • @AlsAllAussieAdventures
      @AlsAllAussieAdventures 4 ปีที่แล้ว +13

      @CarsGuide The recall was for the mq was only side steps corroding i believe?? Hardly a recall unlike the other manufactures where there cars can catch on fire, cracking rotors, brakelines tearing and others with known major dpf issues...these are much more sinister... plus i was refering the new MR model anyway 👌👌

    • @rsoul7282
      @rsoul7282 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      LSA711 actually, the triton has had to get revised intake manifolds in the past due to the amount of spooge the EGR generated, and has had plenty of DPF issues. I know this for a fact as I worked for Mitsubishi / Nissan dealer. Plus the super select system has issues with the little solenoids and actuators that operate it. They are a good thing overall though, far better than a Navara.

    • @AlsAllAussieAdventures
      @AlsAllAussieAdventures 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      R Soul, where is the official recall or warranty issues on this ?? I have never heard of that before, and perhaps it was only some isolated vehicles you may have worked on... every car and every manufacture will have small warranty claims, however Factory Recalls or ACCC noted claims are what id look at, and as said before the only noted claim is the old mq side steps corroding.

    • @rsoul7282
      @rsoul7282 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      LSA711 they were fitted to vehicles that carboned up to change the position of the MAP sensor, was a few years ago so I cannot remember specific recall details, but we did plenty of them so was hardly an isolated issue. It still wouldn’t stop me from buying the current model as the engine is completely different. A lot of the problems people are having these days with anything fitted with a DPF are down to fuel quality, engine oil quality, driving habits and servicing, it’s not solely a Toyota problem.

The top of the line Ranger or Hilux cost 7k or 10k more and I think they don't have all of these specs.

    • @ELVERTGONNE
      @ELVERTGONNE 4 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Ford and Toyota ensured contracts for selling fleets to companies more than 15 years ago, so these companies just renew fleets with them without bothering to see specs of the competition. These fleets take a big chunk of the market. Also, American companies will always prefer Ford.
      Third reason is loyalty from old Toyota consumers, even though the actual Hilux is expensive, not well equipped (not even in safety) and have underpowered and inefficient engines.
