I always appreciate the professionalism of language used where opinions are very polarizing. Words like “advantage”, “disadvantage”, “generally”, rather than just saying “best” or “worst”. Nuance and perspective is so important.

@Jamie81989 nah they don't all aim back, those actually scare the shit out of me tbh because of how it sits. The one I had before a pretty shit work accident snapped the strap was on it, had a solid 80 degree angle(?). If it was aimed at you behind me, it's because you were putting hands in my pocket type of shit. Not for nothing is a faster draw from the seat too.

This video was released on December 19th, yet Jeff leaves out the most important form of concealed carry for the season - this in inexplicable. John McClane's taping of a Beretta to (edit:) his back is not to be forgotten. Was Jeff just not into the Christmas spirit enough to shave his back to show us this form of concealed carry?

I opted for the shoulder holster, a Galco Miami classic model. I do this because I am sitting in my truck driving around all day with only occasional stops. It's a trickier thing in hot weather due to needing to conceal the harness, but this setup allows me easy access to my gun if I end up needing it when I am in my vehicle. It's also very comfortable once you get the harness adjusted right. I also have my IWB for my revolver, which is also very comfortable.

Good points. I liked his mention of the cross draw waist holster. Looks comfortable and accessible when driving, and is below most people's line of sight. When Thu get out of your vehicle you could put on a cover garment, or button/zip something you might already have on.

Shoulder holster could be useful on a motorcycle. Keeps a chunk of metal off your waist/pelvis in case of an accident. I usually carry appendix and was in an accident last year. I broke the triple tree with my legs/groin. I'm pretty sure if I was carrying that day I could've shattered my pelvis.

I drove cab for several years back in the ‘80’s and needed immediate access to my gun while sitting down. I normally carry IWB positioned behind the right hip, but there’s not much slower when you’re sitting and wearing a seatbelt, and after 12 hour shifts you start to feel the butt of the pistol in your kidney.
I carried a Walther PPK/S with Super-Vel HP’s in an old Bianchi 210 medium shoulder holster, and the beautiful part is that when sitting the butt of the pistol was literally 2” from my vest coat inside pocket where I kept my wallet. If someone insisted on my wallet they were quickly presented with something else without my having to unbuckle and lean forward to access an IWB holster. Especially if you’re a big guy like me where the seat belt post is interfering with your hand clearance, and appendix carry is impossible.
These days if driving a long distance I carry a G19 in an old Galco (Jackass leather) Miami Vice rig for the same reason. It’s comfortable and the butt of the pistol is right there.
    Thanks for the overview! 👍

Very well put together. Clear and concise. I have carried in just about every conceivable way. They all have their advantages, and they all have draw backs. Frankly, shoulder holsters are by far the most comfortable and the weapon is easily accessible. Draw back? Your coat must stay on at all times, even in a heated building. Ankle carry is a great way to conceal, but the weapon is not easily accessed unless you are sitting. Every form of waist carry is much harder to conceal and not print, but the weapon is secure and easily retrieved when needed. There was a time when I carried exclusively in a fanny pack but weapon security is a very real danger that gave me nightmares.
    Great content. Very informative.

I'd say 80% of the time I am pocket carrying. I never leave home without a pistol, but we aren't allowed to carry at work. I usually stop for coffee on my way to work, and some of my local convenience stores can be pretty sketchy at 3am, so I slip my little Kahr CW380 in my pocket when I leave the house, and lock it in a lockbox in my car when I get to work.

Good video. I’ve been 99.9% appendix for about 8 years now, haven’t looked back. Recently I’ve been experimenting with a .32 in the pocket for those times where nothing else works (say jogging shirtless or doing heavy yardwork). I’m still working on the skills associated though.

Same with both, except it's an LCP Max in .380. At least the LCP Max has good sized sights.

    • @heeebeeegeeebeee
      @heeebeeegeeebeee ปีที่แล้ว

Recently shot a couple mags through a buddy's LCP Max. Very pleasant shooting gun, and great capacity. Unfortunately trying to do sprints or heavy exercise with an LCP in the pocket left me with a pretty heavy bruise on my leg. The .32 works perfectly in this role, at 9.5oz loaded it's over a quarter pound less weight and significantly smaller than an LCP Max. It's a belly gun for sure. I can shoot alphas at 10 yards with it if I focus, but that's not really what this gun is for. It's fantastic for retention shooting out of the pocket, .65-.75 draws are very easy from the pocket, and it shines at 3-5 yards. If I'm not doing something heavy physical like that, I'll just step up to a 9mm carried in the appendix position like I always do.@@workingguy-OU812

Haven't quite figured out comfortable appendix carry yet (working on it!) so I usually am either strong side hip IWB but I off body when I go hiking, having a backpack on can really interfere with drawing and having a gun concealed can be pretty uncomfortable for strenuous hikes so a fanny pack across my chest with a kydex holster velcroed to the inside is my solution

Walking in winter when its really cold, I have used a hill people gear chest pack. Quick to access and gun is hidden as well as a fanny pack but better supported and way harder to get off me. I can wear it while driving. Lap belt shoulder harness does not interfere. I put a DA/SA pistol in it and a spare mag. Only use it when I am in a total outdoor setting in very cold weather. If I had to head inside to eat etc I would take along a j-frame in my pants pocket and speed loader or a .380 and spare mag pocket carry. Lock the chest pack in the trunk. Put it back on when heading outside.

A shoulder holster allows you to carry a rather large gun with tucked in shirt. It is also accessible in any position while being very stable.
Similarly pocket carry is an any situation mode with no concern for looking inappropriately casual with tails out and also allows discreet prestaging.

Position of conceal carry is very personal bc everyone is shaped differently and have different physical characteristics. I’m 78 and cross carry inside waist band. Reason: I’m right handed although I’m almost as accurate left handed as right which I think more people should practice bc if wounded in right arm/hand and also being able to fire from left side of conceal/cover; I’m not as flexible as I was in my 30s so harder to raise right shoulder for right side inside or outside carry plus it draws more attention to you when drawing bc your shoulder sticks up. Appendix carry is uncomfortable when sitting unless you have a six-pack.

I love fanny pack carry for my Glock 43 at the gym or on hikes. Unfortunately, I have to take off the fanny pack for ab exercises, so I'm frequently just putting it around the machine I'm using so nobody can snatch the bag and run. I use a clipdraw trigger sheath to protect the trigger and connect it to a tie down. It is still quite comfortable while driving.

@@adammartin880 real recognize real! If ur ever interested on a good large frame ccw setup check out the armadillo concealment Lux Extended. Sage dynamics has a fantastic video that made me go this route. It connects to the light on your gun not the gun itself. So I can use my 34 for everyday ccw and my Glock 44 for practice at the range. That mixed with a fantastic ccw belt like a cigura completely Houdini’s that sucker. Not sure if you have a gut or not but I’m sure that would complicate it all. Took about 30 days to get over the chafing in my groin and abdomen and then it became a sensation I feel naked without. People always gripe about how uncomfortable carry is, I have learned to replace “comfort” with comforting. A Glock 34 with a tlr 1 and rmr and a 17round mag on my belt as a backup is so much more confronting than any p365, G42, shield, XDS, or anything else I’ve ever carried the last decade.

I found some of those positions are difficult for larger people. I go with a shoulder holster but have at times gone with my hip holster but if I have to actually cover it up then it is better and not dig into my side like most IWB holsters or side holsters. But when I am out riding my 4 wheeler or bike I use a drop leg holster just for the fact it is easier to pull out if needed then having to try and go inside tighter fitting riding gear.

Wondering why the tenth carry option was not mentioned: holster inside the boot. Works for me. Not expecting to do much running in my old age. I know, poor access, etc. But it gets hot here in Texas and wearing simple short-sleeved shirts or t-shirts alone makes it tough to conceal.

Love this video and the thought into every carry position scenario. I personally ride a motorcycle 90% of the year and in this case shoulder carry works amazing here as wearing a vest or jacket covers the torso well but not necessarily the belt line which can come up raising your arms. The other benefit here is most shoulder rigs carry 2 spare mags on the opposite side which is nice from a capacity perspective for a 1911 as most people rarely have an extra on their person. Outside of riding, IWB at either the 4oclock or appendix location is superior majority of the time.

In extreeme cold weather like what we get in Minnesota shoulder carry is preferable: this is especially true when you have to put your firearm in a lock box in your car when you need to go to a non permissive place like schools, work, hospitals, or courthouses.

I could see the shoulder holster for carrying a large gun as a secondary. I could also see either the ankle or shoulder holster as an option for someone who spends a lot of time driving, and the seat belt could cause issues with the cover garment.

Many manufacturers of cargo pants such as 5.11 tactical CAN sufficiently pocket carry and conceal a 9mm such as a Glock 43. Also, if you add on a rubber grip it makes the draw more consistent and smoother. It is a tactically sound style, it just needs the correct clothes and correct gear, along with practice in drawing the firearm from the pocket as opposed to drawing from the hip. The benefits include never having to worry about printing or firearm visibility in left-leaning areas, along with greater adherence to everyday carry philosophy.

I carry outside the waist band Texas cross draw every day. I do this because I'm an electrician and I have to be able to squat and move but I still want my weapon in the front of my body at all times. It's basically like opposite side appendix otwb.

Interesting he not even once mentioned SoB carry. It's specialized, not practical for all situations, and CAN be uncomfortable as well as putting your spine at risk for injury. But in certain limited situations, it can be practical and advantageous. There are both canted and horizontal carry holsters for this.

When it comes to carry I will super glue it to my upper back if I had to. I live in Beautiful Texas where Open and Concealed is legal. I bought a Leather Dress belt and a $10 leather holster and carry cross draw with belt sitting on second rib. I carry a heavy .45 and two extra extended Mags. I made a video. I don't post links. It's on YT.

I use the left hand shoulder holster with the gun right under my armpit. Compete concealment and full range of motion. No one can see that you are carrying. This worked for cops for a long time. You dont have a holster? Put the gun in your left hand jacket inside pocket with the butt facing backwards.

Shoulder rigs are great for a number of disabled folks, also heavily favored by drivers and others who spend somewhere between a lot of and ALL of their time seated. Especially in cooler climates where all the jacket options are a thing for a large portion of the year and not at all out of place looking. It's kind of niche but there are still a few places and situations where a shoulder rig makes sense beyond simple convenience. That being said if you're a real active/mobile person living in a warm climate, it's almost a totally useless option especially considering the price of a good one you'd be comfortable in all day.

I find having multiple options is important though, or at least one other option... Most of the time I prefer shoulder carry(yes im one of the weird ones) but depending on what im wearing it's not always an option. Got myself a nice comfortable jacket to wear in most weather for most outings that works well for shoulder carry.
