  • This is a follow up video to my original "How to Appendix Carry for Fat Guys". Hopefully this adds more context, as well as gives you a complete overview of how and what I carry now. It's a long one but hopefully I touched on everything pertinent to CCW for big dudes.
The holster carrying my P07 is from FDO industries. I was able to purchase it from their Amazon store and has performed outstandingly.

Good video on the access of the platform for bigger guys. However, I prefer strong side for reason while sitting, ie. at a table, that table top could interfere your access esp. on the draw as that table top is closer for us heavier guys. You must have clearance. Not a drawback, but must be aware of that frontal contact that must be cleared on your upward movement on the draw.

As a fellow fat guy I agree that the basic appendix type holster with the wing is more comfortable than the sidecar rigs that have become so popular and I also carry a CZ , I chose the P 01 omega for the same reasons as you chose the 07 I felt it was more safe withe the double action pull and for me the extra weight of the aluminum frame is a non issue. Another belt to look at is one you've probably already considered and that is the Kore essentials. I just picked one up and i'm kicking myself for waiting so long. Micro adjustments through the track system make adjustment quick and precise and it provides a GREAT platform to draw from. Also it doesn't LOOK like a tactical belt, so it can be worn for EDC or even when not carrying. The only drawback is that it is pricey, but you'll go a long, long time before buying another one.

You hit the nail on the head. And that being a SA/DA weapon. With a heavy pull for your first round, there is no way for me to an accidental discharge.
Second; I’m “full figured and appendix carry. I had my holster custom made. I had a cant built in the holster pivoting the weapon back towards my hip. It made, for me, a smoother, more natural draw.

I'm a big guy also, been carrying for years appendix. 1st,I wear my pants at my waist not under my belly. Makes it more comfortable and don't have the gun in between my thigh and my junk. 2nd, there are some companies that make side mounted mag holders. Way more comfortable. I made some out of high quality elastic,I bought it on eBay 6 feet for $12.00. Works great. Stays right up against my belt. Belts. I bought about 5 yrs ago now, 1' 1/2" Amish leather belt with out buckle on eBay for $30, and $10 For a good belt buckle. Been working flawless. Gd luck, stay safe and uphold our 2nd Amendment rights.

What you said about the gun tipping out, is why I'm going to Glock 19. I've carried a Kel-Tec 9 for 23 years but I believe the barrel being too short is why I have a hard time not printing. So with other people's opinions, I've decided to try the Glock 19, because it is a longer barrel and I'm hoping that with that and the wing it will actually be easier not to print. I'll find out soon, I'll be picking up the new gun this week.

As a fat dude, by far my favorite way to carry a spare mag is the "MagHolder" (one word). Clips over or under your belt and holds the mag horizontally. I can get stupid fast reloads and as long as my shirt tail is long enough to cover my belt (as it should always be lol), my mag stays concealed. And keeping it horizontal keeps the mag from jabbing me in the belly. Only mag that's printed for me has been a 21 round p320 mag.
So compared to the Neo Mag, the MagHolder doesn't take up any pocket space. It's only barely higher on the body, so it's easily accessed from concealment. And you can get a full grip as opposed to the pinch grip with a Neo Mag. Plus, it's $25.

I live in Illinois. When I was shopping for my first CC firearm, I looked at several to get a feel for the grip and the trigger break as my hands are not large but they are thick and meaty. Do your research and compile a list of quality firearms before you go shopping. My list consisted of 17 to choose from and even though the gun store that I went to did not have every one of them on my list, I still had a wide variety to look at.
Don't buy a SIG, Glock, Walther or Hellcat because John or Jane said so. Find one that fits you as you will be the primary user of your next firearm. After you have narrowed down your search from your list to just a few, only then can you choose by price, if that's what you wish, as you know that you will also have a quality firearm that fits your hands.
I eventually decided upon an optics ready S&W Performance Center M&P9 Shield Plus with a 4" barrel for CC and I also purchased 2 more 13 round mags for when I'm at the range. I picked it up on Nov. 20, 2021 and I have not been to the range yet but I will soon enough. My only current problem is the ability to find a decent holster that comfortably fits my fatness. lol

Good video. I bought this belt about a month ago. The only problem I have with using it the way you are, which is basically the way that John Lovell shows, is that it is almost impossible to carry a sheath knife or multitool on strong side. The way the velcro has to go would have to go over any sheath.
I slide the buckle to the left, actually on the left side of the front left belt loop, and attach the holster in apendix on one layer of belt, then overlap the holster clips with the velco end. This brings the end to front instead of the side, if that makes any sense, seems to work good. That way I can still carry a multitool on my right.
    Anyway thanks for the vid.

The rest of us who choose to carry in literally every other position refer to it as the family jewels. I will also say that a regular leather belt with buckle would dig into my fat gut, even without a carry. I picked up an Ibyado nylon EDC belt with ratcheting buckle, and it no longer digs into by body. Came in around $40 from the Bezos store. ;)

I think IWB and AIWB are good ways to carry. I just recommend that people never re-holster the weapon without taking the holster off first. The vast majority of accidental shootings (not caused while cleaning or playing with the gun) happen when the person is re-holstering. Taking the holster off almost completely removes any chance that something will get stuck in the trigger while re-holstering. It also allows you to SEE if there's a problem with a foreign object and/or the holster itself (like leather holsters folding into themselves and causing accidental discharges)... and you can also specifically choose what direction you want the gun/holster to be facing when you re-holster, so if something unexpected does happen and the gun does go off it won't hit/hurt/kill anyone.
(I mention the unexpected, because one time I saw a person using an aftermarket P320 trigger with a trigger dongle have an accidental discharge while holstering, because the trigger pin was sticking out the side of the trigger, so when he re-holstered the gun, that pin snagged on the edge of the holster and as he pushed the gun into the holster it caused the trigger to be pulled. He went out of his way to not wear clothing that could get into his trigger guard and to also look at and inspect the holster to make sure there were no foreign objects in it to cause an accidental discharge... but he just didn't see the very tiny pin just barely sticking out the side of his trigger like 1/8 of an inch).

Good video man, thanks. About the pelvic contact commentary, they make those foam wedges that you can stick on the back of the holster to prevent that.

    • @yota_blaster5030
      @yota_blaster5030  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Thank you. In regards to the wedges, anything that relies on adhesive is subject to failure when you introduce heat and moisture. So in my opinion extra kydex is more consistent and less prone to failure than the foam wedges. I would leave it up to personal preference though.

Just saw this and first, I love the fact that you didn't feel the need to show your gun was clear at the beginning and rack the slide seventeen times, stick your finger in the barrel, and all of the other nonsense. Second, I agree completely about the small gun holsters. I have an LCP (original but second gen) with an armalaser sight on it. Most of the time I have it in a pocket holster but I also have an IWB holster for it. I carry it appendix style sometimes but it does feel like it wants to tip out constantly. You do get used to it but most often I carry it in the appendix only if walking or standing and then I slide it back to around the four or five o'clock if needed. Great tips!!

I carry a g19 and p320 both with red dot and lights. The g19 is in a vedder light tuck with wing, the p320 is in a werkz m6 with wing and straps not clip. I use the vedder mag carrier as I can conceal it that way. I tried sidecars they did not work. I usually wear a regular white Hanes tee and then a lose fit shirt over that like the workout sweat wicking shirts or a regular shirt just a size bigger. I have no problem sitting, standing, walking. One thing about appendix figure out in advance how to use the restroom standing at a stall as some don’t have dividers so you don’t show your gun . I carry right at 12 or 1215. I also got the clinger cushion that goes on the back of your kydex holster and makes it more comfortable I have them for all my holsters.
