      Not having problems but voicing your problems early in a relationship. It's the key to making it work. Always br engaging even in the negative things you dont want to talk about. Blowing something off just because you love someone or think you will hurt them will just create massive pressure till eventually it boils over later on.

      I feel like everyone is completely missing one of the biggest issues in the relationship that was stated at the start that they have by their own admission, irreconcilable political, lifestyle, career differences. Just shooting a shot in the dark based on what they said but he seems like someone ready to settle down, have a good career, a family, etc, and she wants to be like a political activist, doesnt mind being poor, doesnt have tine for kids and a house. Its pretty clear at least his dad is likely very conservative, so he is likely at best 'apathetic' to her political causes.

Like the saying goes: women don't care about your struggles, they wait at the finish line and pick the winners. (Marriage is team work, especially if you're not wealthy and can't afford to loaf and maintain a decent lifestyle) - she was so bitter about helping him out that she had to divorce him. He came clean about considering tag-n-releasing when they were dating prior to their marriage, but she has not forgiven him about it, and goes on about having high virtues. She forgets that the chap declined the fling because he felt horrible, meaning he passed the litmus test, but she still grinds him about it, as if he did mess around. She 'had it in her mind that he was going to cheat on him at some stage in their relationship' - well, he didn't, yet she held him in contempt for it just in case he did do it. He was guilty of cheating in her mind, she was just waiting for confirmation which never came. She loved him more in the beginning, when he tried to break up a few times... There is something wrong/incompatible in their relationship for him to want to break up - we don't know what it is, but must be significant, even his dad dislikes her. She comes across as chirpy and easy to laugh, but that would be judging a book by its cover - she grew up, believed she could be independent and went for divorce, yet sleeps with him occasionally. Something not right about the whole process there. He still speaks endearingly about her, so I think if they saw a pro about their problems, they would find a way to stay together, as most couple do. Divorce seems over the top from the short clip.

    Very different circumstances but the feel of this conversation hit close to home. My ex and I got along famously but I was always the one more invested in our relationship, doing what was needed to make it work. 8 years in, married, he hit rock bottom in his struggle with depression and things got real honest. He told me straight up that I loved him more than he loved me, but that he needed me more than I needed him. I really did love him though and we got past it. 12 years in, doing a lot better with his mental health, he told me that he'd fallen in love with a friend of his. That it was a done deal and they were going to start a relationship... but he still wanted me to stay anyways. Say what?
    I asked for a few days to think it over, but finally decided that although I wished him well I couldn't stay. Too many lies, too many secrets, too many years of trying that ultimately counted for nothing. So I let him go. Four months later things fell through with his new love and he wanted me back. He missed me. His life was empty now. But although I still wished him well I just had nothing left to give anymore. My love was exhausted. Four years later and I'm doing alright with my own life now, but I don't think he's ever really moved on. And it's sad.
    Tldr - value what you have (and who you have) when you have it. I don't regret my marriage, and I don't regret my choice to leave it when he no longer valued me the way I valued myself. But still, having loved and lost is a bittersweet thing.
    Update, 2023: Been 6 years now since my marriage ended and I remembered this post. Thanks to anyone who replied or showed interest in how I was doing. So here it is - left to my own devices for the first time in my adult life, I stayed single for several years and chased dreams that I had always had. I grew a beautiful garden, I traveled internationally, I finally learned how to ride a motorcycle... and loved it so much that I sold my car in favor of riding full time, lol. Eventually I dated a little but finally decided to just live my best life and meet someone naturally. And I did. One day I happened to meet an incredibly lovely, caring, smart man, and we've been together now for over a year, and it's been really real and special. Life is good, and I'm just appreciating every minute.

    We said we'd try and get over it. So weeks turned into months, months into years. But it was always there. Like a dull pain in the back of your head, or a hairline crack on a screen.
    Ultimately I'd ruined it. And all the laughs, cries, holidays, work, rest and play couldn't help.
    The worst part? It's long over, we've moved on. But I've never forgiven myself for it. I'm in a happy relationship, so is she. But I can't say to myself I am truly a good person anymore.

    “Why does she seem so fine” probably because he almost cheated on her, and since then she’s been mentally preparing to leave. THANK YOU! I’ve been looking for this comment and was about to comment this myself. I mean I FULLY empathize with the man and as is the case with over two thirds of divorces, the woman probably initiated the divorce when the man clearly still wanted to put in the work to at least try and salvage the relationship and a relationship needs both persons to put in the work, but I think both acknowledge that the man had the intention of cheating on her and then proceeded to betray her trust for MONTHS as he didn’t tell her that. She started the grieving process right then and there and was prepared to leave him. The man was trying to fix their problems by focusing on money, career, and superficial happiness but the huge dent in the relationship, he just couldn’t confront.

      Tf u 2 on about?? Even tho true ur both missing the fact that they said it was " early in the relationship " prior to their marriage, also we don't know how many yrs they were together prior to marriage etc if she genuinely held on to that even thru marriage then they should have not gotten married in the 1st place i also abhor the fact that she would be talking to another guy virtually after they had a quarrel & in front of him.......I'm probably bias tho bc i experienced the same thing.....

    • @Doc-Devin
      @Doc-Devin 3 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      @@Alex_Aramayo You’re right about the marriage thing. But think about it, would you marry a girl/guy that fully had the intention to cheat on you at the beginning of the relationship? I didn’t really feel that much remorse from the guy in the video and he openly acknowledged that the relationship was permanently scarred after that. It’s a weight they bore on their shoulders until their inevitable separation. They knew it wasn’t going to work, but they tried to anyway. That’s why the marriage was a recipe for disaster from the get-go. The girlfriend never let go of the fact that the man she loved wasn’t faithful enough to love her the same.
      Now, the fact that they got married is more complex. To paraphrase a Simpsons quote, most people don’t get married to someone they love, but because they’re too scared to be alone. When you’re an adult and you just want to stop looking, you just want to be in a relationship, you just want to not be alone. A lot of people might spend their whole life not getting married because they never found the person they love. And most people see those people as a perfect example of a robbed life. Getting married, having kids, having a home, seeing your kids grow up. Grow old with your partner are all things people (especially in their late 20s that suddenly feel the need to settle and have kids) want to experience. I’m sure the guy and girl in this video did love each other, and I’m sure it took a lot of time to find each other and trust each other. I’m sure they have a lot of great memories together and neither of them were emotionally ready to go through that rollercoaster all over again with someone else while completely letting go of the other person. Love is a complex thing. You never completely stop loving someone despite what they’ve done, and you never completely forgive someone for something irréparable they have done to the relationship, like showing the intent to cheat. The couple just settled because they didn’t want to be alone while looking for a partner and they couldn’t summon up the courage to let go of the past. That’s why the divorce rate is so high, people are not courageous and strong enough to be honest with their partners and with themselves. The man didn’t just almost cheat, he lied about it (through omission) for MONTHS. The girl talking with other guys is probably just revenge, doing it out of spite and the guy just kinda let it happen because she has leverage over the almost-cheating incident. Maybe that’s why he said « he’ll be good for you » with a broken voice because he knows that if she can learn to love again, then she can get what she deserves (to be with a man who loves her unconditionally and who hasn’t cheated on her). I could write about the psychological nuances of love and marriage all day but the comment is getting long lol and I’m sure you get my point.

    I’m going to be a basic psych major here, analyzing the relationship. for everyone saying that they seem extremely respectful and mature about the situation, I think that’s partially true but also that they do live together and they are trying to keep from it blowing up in their face more than anything. I do think it was her that brought up a divorce because she seems to be extremely upset about the almost cheating. It definitely seems like it was a case of I loved you more, you didn’t love me enough. She was definitely more hurt in the beginning but as of right now, and he is the one struggling with the situation. It was hard to notice but he made some slide, weird dagger jokes about things, which I think is him just showing his resentment thru. overall, it seems like they had just been friends inside their relationship really well and that’s why it translated outside of their divorce. however, I believe that once they do get a finalized divorce and stop living together, that they will likely not be this amicable.

      I had the same thought. First they seemed really cool about it but even though she claims and he agrees, that she was more in love with him, I personally think that it's the other way around and maybe that's why the situation with his Dad came along? Not sure. When they talked about cheating, he seems to have learned his lessons while she seems still super upset about it (which I can understand although he technically didn't cheat if I understood correctly) BUT when I heard in what situation they are living right now AND how she is already "talking" to a friend (we all know where this usually leads to during break up time), I felt bad for him. While he says, he looked into dating apps but doesn't find it to be right to go for girls in his situation, she causally admitted that "there's somebody". Feels kinda inappropriate to me.
      My perspective maybe a bit biased towards her tho.

    • @lindz7038
      @lindz7038 3 ปีที่แล้ว +39

      @@IxAmxOlek no I actually really agree with you. There’s definitely get some communication issues I think the only reason that she felt comfortable finding a partner so soon already after the separation, it’s because she was already mentally checked out of the relationship due to the almost cheating and definite issues that they had about finances and politics. I feel like that combined with his dad‘s resentment towards her, it just seemed like she was already half out of the relationship, actually that both of them were half out of the relationship. So it’s really difficult to see it from like an outsider perspective since they seem so friendly. because if you notice he also seems like he saw the divorce coming but didn’t have the balls to do it himself. So it seems like they were already treating each other as friends instead of a relationship. That’s what makes this entire thing more interesting

I’m not saying either one of them were perfect, it seems like neither one of them are. they both clearly were not made to be in that relationship with each other, especially from a legal standpoint. They are exciting when they are opposite to you as well but the problem is that if they are unable to find a working compromise, their relationships fail. Equals make for good partners but while having the same abilities aso. is relaxed, solving certain issues is far harder.
      So when you look for a serious long-term relationship, mark these words and mark them well:
      Get to know them almost as good as you know yourself and then ask yourself if you could work together as a relationship in 10 years from now.

      Nah I disagree.. It may take a little time to get that trust back going, but most women don't leave due to cheating or "possible cheating". She found someone that she deems stronger, and its obvious that she's getting more enjoyment from this while the guy is clearly in pain. So, whether a man cheats or not is mostly irrelevant when it cones to longterm. It isn't until a woman sees her man as weak that her feelings change..

    It’s also a sign that they both must have really tried. They’re both so communicative like that. So, that makes me happy for them in a way. That they’ve reached the same conclusions together.

      The guy confessing about his thoughts and intentions but actively deciding against it is a big obstacle to overcome and he did his part in trying to get this relationship to work. If he werent invested he couldve cheated and/or broke up with her. I stand by his side since we only know so much of their story and she didnt commit to any "Mistakes" on her part, however minor they may be, blaming him for the majority of their failed relationship.
      Who knows what she (almost) did and never told him since she might not have had the guts to let it out.
      This also begs the question what lead him to even come close to cheating on her? Sure it might be because hes a truly bad person or he was bored or whatever.

      @@DreamCheesex3 I don’t think anyone was putting all the blame on him, but how could you wanting to cheat on your partner or your partner wanting to cheat on you NOT be a red flag? It clearly signals that something is wrong in the relationship/wrong with the person that was tempted to cheat. Personally I don’t think I could ever be with someone if I know they wanted to cheat on me, I’d be absolutely heartbroken and probably develop trust issues (and trust is crucial in a healthy relationship)
