Agree but also would add from my own experience that if you really love them, because I’ve been with people who really treated me poorly and used me and when they were ready to move on and didn’t want to work on the issues I had with them they just gave up and wished me happiness…it just felt hollow because of that.

Harley Q this is my favorite of all of them I think. You can tell it probably would never work out with them again but what they had before issue came up was true love. There is no such thing as "letting your ego get in the way". The things he felt back then and that caused trouble in the relationship were real, not imagined. And if he would be in the same situation again today he would feel the same. Sure, he could choose to ignore it, but that wouldn't lead anyone anywhere.
I don't know the circumstances of what happened in their relationship, but it sounds much like he was having an issue with how things were developing (the friends thing) and then she felt bothered, fought back and ultimately it ended (which I feel she implied when she said "I wish you felt that way back when we were still together (aka leave me alone)".
The bottom line is: If relationships end up in constant fighting then it will not work out and it really is no ones fault and no one could have changed anything about it.
So many people who are in love are not together and so many people who are together are not in love

Man, this is as real as it gets. Something went wrong, he clearly feels like he screwed up, and boy God you can see he regrets it because he's just totally cut up about it. I reckon he'd give just about anything to have another go of it but she's moved on and fair enough. She didn't get what she needed the first time round and she has it now, but you can see, right there, that if he had put in the goods, they would be together, and happy, and healthy, and powerful, and you can see they both know it.
