Two of my favorite running gags in one episode: Dylan's unrequited love for sports games and Jared's unconditional love for Bubsy.

Man, I used to hate Bubsy!
I was married back in 2004 and we retro gamed together frequently, but I knew that she only did it for me.
For some stupid reason, her favorite games were Bubsy and B.O.B. They are fairly similar.
She passed from brain cancer back in 2015 and now I only have fond memories of Bubsy lol. Funny how these games affect our lives in such odd ways!
That entire sports segment was fantastic 🤣

Nhl 94 is arguably one of the best sports games ever made. It is fun even if you don't love hockey.

I haven’t laughed so hard during the editors corner since… ever! Sports games are the bane of my existence, and the comedic timing of the “SPORTS”! Theme is genius 😂
That was Dylan's best section so far, especially the spooky "SPORTS!" theme.
It sounded like normal Tim & Eric sports song, though.
I kept laughing.
That song was the complete opposite of scary
Well, you have to remember, they weren’t EA back then. They were Electronic Arts, a company made for artists and programmers to make the games they wanted. The corporate structure that turned them into the money hungry corrupt corporate EA came later.
They used to be so innovative. Haunting: Starring Polterguy, General Chaos, Populous, the Strike series, Mutant League Football, they were awesome back then.
It won't be long, tho. EA's descent into evil starts shortly after Trip Hawkins fully leaves the company, and that happened in 1994.
Its funny because they literally created EA to stop corporate corruption ruining video games lol!

Correction: Aero the Acrobat HAS resurfaced! If you own an Evercade, you can get the Sunsoft Collection cartridge that has Aero front and center. Also included are five other Sunsoft games with the likes of Blaster Master and Mr. Gimmick also making the cut.
So the real horror was the terrifying amount of sports games that released that week
This is one of the best rapid fire segments Dylan has ever done.
The longer Editor Dylan's parts get, the more I like it. He's such a great part of this already great show.

The strain to mention Bubsy every time mascot platformers come up, never gets old.
That segway to Dylan got me good. I feel the same way with most sport games except NBA Jam and Mutant League Football.

I found the MD easier to work with. Clean, straightforward architecture. SFC, not so much...

Like today, sports games were released every year.
Generally speaking, the yearly sport title refreshes are dull... But NHL 94 is an all-time classic. A rare sports game that could be enjoyed by most gamers as a legit head-to-head game even if you had little to no clue about the sport itself. For a few years during my college days, it was roughly as popular as Street Fighter 2 for dorm tourneys.
Wicked 18 also had some pretty cool holes in it.
I literally choked on my drink over the EA gag 😆 This show is still the highlight of my Friday ❤
I think my favorite running gag of this show is that every time Jared mentions Bubsy in any capacity, a clip of one of the death animations from Bubsy 3D is also shown.
Dylan, if you read the comments, you've been more and more amazing in each video. You and Jared make a great team.
This is sincerely one of the best shows on TH-cam. Amazing format, excellent presentation and a wonderful duo at the helm. I'm not a Patron yet, but here soon I absolutely will be. You deserve it.
That Daffy Duck game is quite advanced, with several weapon types you can buy and refill at the shop, and maze-like level design in which you can get to shortcuts and alternate routes with a bit of exploration and clever use of your fuel-limited jetpack!
Also, I enjoyed the Aero games so much back then, especially the Zero spinoff. Amazing soundtracks all around too!
Today is my 30th birthday. I've been unreasonably excited for this episode ever since I found out my birthday landed on a Friday. So cool to know which games I'm as old as. Keep up the fantastic work, guys!🎉🎉🎉

Even as someone who loves sports and loved sports games in the 90s, this is an insane abundance of sports games for one week to get. NHL 94 definitely holds up as the best among those in the collection. I remember as a kid we had the Sega Sports NFL Football game but it might've been the 95 edition, and I didn't like it much. Same for their version of an NHL game to compete with EA's NHL series, it wasn't as good. The real scary part is what EA's franchises have turned into since then.
Those were the best and most enlightening reviews of all the sports ball.
NHL '94 on Genesis is generally considered one of the best 16-bit games ever made, not just for the genre.
I'm not a fan of sports games either, but it was painful to see a gaming landmark dismissed this casually.

Absolutely amazing work as always from everyone involved (especially Dylan, brilliant across the board).
Really surprised more time wasn't spent on NHL 94, which is still considered an all time classic with subsequent titles just building on top of it and Madden 94, with similar results(except it's not really an all time classic, but a good sports game for the time)
Folks are on the ball redeeming those steam codes! Well, even if I never get one, I'm always gonna keep coming back for the ultimate tag team that is Jared and Dylan. Thanks for all the work you guys do to make this series happen!

when i was a kid in southwest wisconsin, my family went to the rendezvous in prarie du chien (the rendezvous is sort of like a ren fair for pioneers, it symbolizes when french fur traders opened a trading post with native americans) at one of the stalls was a guy selling video games, and i saw "haunting" there for cheap, like $15 when the genesis was going strong.
I wanted it, but my parents refused to get it, apparently the guy made a pass at my mother.
Ive been trying to remember what that game was for 30 years,and thanks to you, i know
if there was ever a REDEMPTION ARC in the history of TH-cam , it should be the story of PRO JARED that fell from grace only to emerge as our lord and savior once again, while i never was a real fan, and didn't really care about the scandal, these NOW IN THE 90S videos are now my favorite things on youtube and makes him the best in my books.
It is an absolute crime that Haunting Starring Polterguy has been so neglected. Seriously, was really hoping for that game making it onto the Sega Mini 2. Thanks for remembering it!
My younger brother LOVED SimAnt . The rule as kids was every weekend we got to rent a game, but we traded off who got to pick each time. For I dunno how long, every time it was his turn, he'd rent Sim freaking Ant. Drove me nuts lol

I remember renting Aero the Acrobat as a kid, but I never could get too far. A few years back, I found the SNES cartridge for a few bucks, so I bought it to see if it holds up. I got to stage 1-2, jumped into a cannon that shot me straight up into instant death spikes, and I was like "nope" and haven't touched it since then.
Hidden Jam Alert: The entire Aero the Acro-Bat soundtrack. You've never heard an organ grind so hard.
I started watching for Jared, but continue to watch every week because of Dylan. Your hilarious gags are the reason why now in the 90s is the only TH-cam show I never miss an episode of

What I remember most about Madden 94 is how they added a full season mode where all my players would gradually get injured and ruin my Super Bowl chances. Just like the real game.

Aero was made by a studio whose publisher lived off of movie tie-in games.

The barrage of EA Sports meme variants nearly killed me from laugh-wheezing.
Unleash the floodgates of sports games. At least Dylan didn't have to talk extensively about each one. I like Haunting, would love a copy of it. Also wouldn't mind those two SNES golf games, I do love video game golf.

Must be time for Aladdin on the SNES next week, as I remember that game was a 93 release, mostly becausse the only animated film released that year from a Disney studio was Nightmare Before Christmas, which originally came out from Touchstone, because it wasn't made by the main animation studio, instead it was made by the team that would go on to form Laika studio.

Haunting is one of my absolute favorite Genesis games! As a kid who grew up in a very horror loving household, I LOVED stuff like that game. And I still enjoy it today too. I enjoyed Sim Ant as well, but remember it having painful saving and loading times.

Fun fact: David Siller would also design the character of Crash Bandicoot. I guess sometimes thunder strikes the second time around when you're making a platformer starring an anthropomorphic mammal.

Despite how fast Dylan covered them Sports games, there is one that is legitimately good: NHL Hockey '94 is no joke. It's one of the single best sports games ever made, easily the best EA Sports game ever made, and people still make roster updates to this specific game to this day. The only other sports game I can think of that does this is Tecmo Super Bowl.
I don't touch sports sims, but the casual disregard for gaming history hurt a bit...

I've played a few NBA Jam hacks with updated rosters with NBA Jam 2K21 being a personal fav of mine. Kyrie and KD in Brooklyn were a literal cheat code. If only that tandem was just as efficient when they were still on the Nets. Injuries suck.

@@HylianFox3 Granted, I'm so used to Football and basketball games coming out before the start of the season (Late August / Early September) but I guess I just caught on to that around the 6th Gen of gaming (I owned TONS of sports games in the PS2/Xbox/Gamecube Era) and releases were different back in the 90's when they came out a little later.
I've played the heck out of Haunting starring Polterguy, and while it is short and it has not continues, it's still really fun to find all different crazy things that can happen. Some of the scares get repetitive, but some of them I can just watch over and over. Like spawning a shooting cowboy skeleton in a doorway of one of the houses.
One of these days, Jared will do a mascot platformer retrospective without taking a sideswipe at Bubsy.
And on that day, we are all truly lost.
My cousin had Haunting, and I think we still have it. I loved playing that game when I was still growing up. I remember making it to the final boss, but never beat it. He also had NHL 93 because he played hockey.

I love the Marvin missions, haven't played that in so many years! Whenever I was able to rent a game sometimes I would feel like playing a Looney tunes game on the SNES, and I usually went for The Marvin missions

Only games I played from this week’s episode are Madden NFL ‘94 for the Sega Genesis and Aero the Acro-Bat for the Game Boy Advance. Madden ‘94 is actually one of the two games my family got with our Genesis back in ‘95 (the other being Sonic the Hedgehog 2) which makes it one of the first games I’ve ever played.
As for Aero, I find myself liking the game more than others but I guess I’m no longer too surprised why after hearing just now that it took inspiration from Mappy. Mappy is one of my favorite arcade games ever and addicting as all get out.
Nfl 94 w Montana and NHL 94 were my two go to sports games. "It's coming down harder"....it sure is.
