How nice to see a video by a true professional colorist. It's clear you know what you're talking about even if a lot of it goes over my head. You make me want to learn more.
Hey Marieta. I'm new to Davinci resolve and i'm always looking to improve my colour grading. Just came across this video and I have to say even though I didn't understand anything, your way of talking and showing how everything works feels so soothing and simple. In the future please create a series of videos for colour grading basics so noobs like me can gradually come upto split toning and understanding the deeper topics. Also each time you used a keyboard shortcut and u put it in the screen really shows you care for your subs who have no idea which shortcuts are which. Keep rocking. You just gained a new sub! Have a great time here.
Allen, thank you very much for taking the time to write this, I appreciate it! I'm glad you found this useful and I'll do my best to cover more beginner topics in future videos.
I’m thrilled you started a TH-cam channel! I’ve been following you on Instagram and absolutely love your vibe. Keep up the fantastic work, and I wish you all the best!
Hi Marieta, I really like your settle and calm way of explaining things, makes me wanna watch the whole video. 😊 Also nice demo of Kaurs DCTL. Looking forward to see more of your videos.
Welcome to TH-cam! Great first video and I'm glad to hear you're enjoying my DCTLs 😄 Some feedback on the video creation side: - Consider using a smaller screen resolution or bigger display scaling as many are watching these on 1080p screens or even phones (for Windows users, it can be set inside Resolve's preferences > User tab > UI Settings > UI Display Scale) - Don't be afraid to Zoom in on parts of the UI when explaining something for the first time - As Resolve's UI is rather complex, when highlighting small parts here and there, consider also adding an arrow that points there to draw the eye of the viewer - 24 seconds to get into the meat of the video is pretty good! In the TH-cam world, shorter tends to be better. - Plus points on not asking for user interaction at the beginning as so many do. - Love all the visual graphics! Are you using some kind of presets for those?
Hey Kaur, absolutely, your DCTLs are wonderful! Thank you for stopping by and for sharing your feedback, it's so valuable! I'll make sure to solve all of these going forward. I create most of my graphics myself as I have a background in 2D motion graphics animation and I also use presets from Envato for After Effects and Premiere Pro. Happy to share specific links in case anything particular stood out for you and you wish to use in your own work. Thanks a million, appreciate your detailed comment! 😊

Therefore, I came back to the IDT, I turned on Saturation Compression and the default values solved the issue. I'm not quite sure why this occurred with this specific footage. But there is no trick, really. This was me just troubleshooting an issue with the footage. But normally, you should have turned off both Tone Mapping and Gamut Mapping when you're going from one large timeline colour space such as RWG to another, e.g. LogC3 or DWG. Yes, I will sort of the size of Resolve's UI and I'll have each panel pop out when I use it so it's clear what I'm doing. Sorry about that and thank you for bearing with me!
Just started editing in davinci resolve and you certainly have resolved some of my questions. Love the way you explain and how clean your videos are. Keep up with the good work! Btw I subscribed to your channel. 🔥🫡
I'm so glad you found it useful! So in my fixed node tree I usually have all my OFX (incl. film grain, texture pop, etc.) in a parallel stack at the end because it makes visual sense for me and it keeps things organised. You can do serial nodes as well if that works better for you. For example, if you have Halation, you should keep that before any softening operations because it works best on sharp edges. Hope that makes sense. Thanks!
Wow such an awesome video learned so much I have a question where did you get the Arri 18% gray picture from so I can use the qualifier to pin point middle gray when using curves
Thank you! I have Arri's Middle Grey Chart from a course I did with TAC Resolve training. But you can grab Cullen Kelly's Exposure Chart DCTL for free: procolor.ist/exposure-dctl/ It includes includes 14 different 18% grey patches that you can use to lock your middle grey point. Hope this helps.

Hey! Personally, I've been using Premiere for about 8-9 years now and I honestly don't think it's meant for colour. If you're interested in colour grading, I recommend learning DaVinci Resolve or Baselight. Good luck!
@@marietafarfarova interesting! Thank you! Is premiere pro in your workflow at all at this point? Perhaps another video topic is about your workflow/organization? I'm kinda new and would LOVE something like that
@@BFMwithStackhouse Yes, I do all my editing in Premiere Pro and once the edit is picture-locked, I do a roundtrip to DaVinci Resolve for colour. There are two ways to conform an edit from another NLE in Resolve -by importing an .xml of the timeline + all the used media or by importing a clean ProRes file without any colour and doing a detect scene-cut in Resolve. Then proceed to colour as usual. Darren Mostyn has got a fantastic video that covers the Premiere to Resolve roundtrip in detail: th-cam.com/video/C561OeNewME/w-d-xo.html
Thank you and I'm really sorry about that! I'll fix the size of the UI in future videos and I'll also have each active panel pop out when used so it's clear what I'm doing. Thank you for bearing with me!
Hi, I think you made a mistake or left out an important part, the CST you made should not have made it look like Rec709, yet it does. You should have a very flat image. Did you convert in on the Timeline node? EDIT** never mind i found it later on in the video
Thank you for your note. I'll simplify my ways of working in future videos and keep everything on the Clip level to avoid any confusion. Thank you for bearing with me as I work out how to teach in a clear and straightforward way!
Thank you so much! Of course, grain, just like most things in colour grading, is quite subjective. It is fairly heavy so I understand where you're coming from. Thanks again!
You can use Cullen Kelly's Exposure DCTL (which is free) that generates a 18% grey patch for any colour space: procolor.ist/exposure-dctl/ You can find a short walkthrough here: daejeonchronicles.com/2023/04/24/how-to-use-cullen-kellys-exposure-chart-dctl-for-18-middle-gray/
Nice video but the Subtractive Colour method actually makes no difference, if you have an exact inverse of the grade you applied in the method 1 section then it will be identical. This is easiest to prove by using lift and gain. For method 1, type in RGB gain to 1.2, 0.8. 0.7 and set Luminance Mixer to 0 (typing values ensure they are exact). For method 2, make a new version and construct the splitter node tree with the inverse operations, but now in the Cyan branch type in Y-Lift to -0.1, in Magenta set Y-lift to +0.1, and in Yellow set Y-lift to +0.15 (for some reason gain changes make half as much difference as lift changes). If done correctly you will see that both versions give the same result.
Thank you for your feedback! Duly noted, I'll have the active panels pop out so things are visible and easy to follow in future videos. Appreciate you sharing your thoughts.

Хей, благодаря за позитивния коментар! 😊
Wow that's very nice. But it is realy hard to read the text. txt is realy small here.
Thank you and I'm really sorry about that! I'll fix the size of the UI in future videos and I'll also have each active panel pop out when used so it's clear what I'm doing. Thank you for bearing with me!
Спасибо!
Thank you for bearing with me as I work out how to teach in a clear and straightforward way!
cool !!!
Thanks!!
I really don't like grain in this particularly shot.
But explanation is good and understanding.
Thank you so much! Of course, grain, just like most things in colour grading, is quite subjective. It is fairly heavy so I understand where you're coming from. Thanks again!
Arri log for an R3D file? Interesting
Yes, because I’m working in Arri LogC3 as a timeline colour space and the RED footage has an IDT that takes it into LogC3.
My dear, how can we create this middle grey 18% patch ourselves?
You can use Cullen Kelly's Exposure DCTL (which is free) that generates a 18% grey patch for any colour space: procolor.ist/exposure-dctl/ You can find a short walkthrough here: daejeonchronicles.com/2023/04/24/how-to-use-cullen-kellys-exposure-chart-dctl-for-18-middle-gray/
I am doing the Davinci resolve's beginner's training class, and youtube is suggesting you. Thank god, subs for more videos like this
I'm so glad you found this useful, thank you for subscribing!
Thnk u
ur gooood
Thank you!
Do you have a CG course?
No, I don't. Sorry!
@@marietafarfarova well whatcha waiting on? We want one!
hi, unfortunately your 27 or 32" screen is unreadable on ipad screens😉
Thank you for your feedback! Duly noted, I'll have the active panels pop out so things are visible and easy to follow in future videos. Appreciate you sharing your thoughts.
@@marietafarfarova Glad if it helps developping your channel
Якo!
Много благодаря!
Why do you have that obnoxious music behind your voice. When people listen to tutorials, they want to hear every word you have to say nobody wants to hear music. This isn’t into drama and we’re not gonna get up and dance… Get rid of the stupid music!
What a bundle of joy you are, hey! Please take your negative vibes elsewhere. There are plenty of other TH-cam channels to learn from and since my content isn't your cup of tea, I'd suggest you learn from another person. I wish you all the best.
It is very difficult to concentrate on your videos, the sweet sound of your voice does not allow me to concentrate, thanks!!
Lol 😄 Thanks for your comment.
