It is definitely worth trying out RAM upgrades past their official limits. I have some HP Proliant's here that take far more ram than what their official specs say they do.. one recommendation is to always make sure you are on the latest firmware. Specs tend to not get updated after release whilst there is often updated information in the firmware revision notes.
I love the fact that you are still using the M1 model I love that server. I am running this server with 60 TB of storage as a mass 24 x 7 for my Plex server it may be power-hungry but I got it for $100 and it works as a Nas

@@MyPlayHouse In Dell Poweredge 2950 and 1950 I had this much Memory working fine- for virtualization :-). It has the same chipset and the same CPUs, so it should work. 8x Pc2 fbdimm 4rx8 per 8GBs. Hi Morten - you've tried this in an x3650 with Xeon 54xx series. Only the later motherboards support 54 series processors, can you try some 8Gb sticks in an earlier motherboard that doesn't support 54xx or 53xx?

Maybe its a limitation of the processor thats causing the memory issue?

I guess it supports 8x8GB modules.
Sorry I do not have a DL360 G5 :-/
