    the font for the 730T logo is not Bebas Neue, but Helvetica Ultra Compressed, same as the ThinkPad logo. that's why it didn't look identical to the original. also the a/a button font looks like bold Helvetica, or Helvetica Black. apart from that, it looks really really good.

    • @polymatt
      @polymatt  16 วันที่ผ่านมา +22

      Hey thanks so much for the tip! The notes in the video weren't really referring to the font itself, more the fact that even if I had gotten the right font, there are normal distortions in the icons in some cases.

    • @kaitlyn__L
      @kaitlyn__L 11 วันที่ผ่านมา +3

      Yeah, that Helvetica and Swiss Ultra-Compressed look for the 0 is unmistakable (for a font nerd like me, who cares more about distinguishing those two than Helvetica and Arial lmao)

    6:56 This is what I love about projects like this. Doesn't matter how insanely obscure and hyper-specific the project is, there's someone out there that's made something for it for anyone else who happened to need that one specific thing. Whether it be a tool, program, or 3d model. You name it, some random nerd out there made it.

    Found this on my feed, watched until the end, and the way I audibly GASPED when I saw that you only have 16k subs. The music choice, the video production, the way you give information, and how good you are at what you do, it all comes together perfect. Watched the video on one breath, despite the fact that my gen z brain is slowly, but surely, falling to the short videos over longer videos craze.

    Subbed. I came into this video assuming that it would be more of a part swapping exercise with a donor machine, which most people do, even on really obscure hardware. Somehow they manage to get hold of more than 1 while the rest of the world didn't even know of its existence. The level of actual work and care that you put into your restoration sets you apart, and certainly deserves more love from the algorithm.

    Just found your channel today, and I’ve really enjoyed watching someone take on the kind of work many of us were doing 30 years ago at IBM.
    I was with IBM from 1994 to 1999 and repaired every system you’ve featured so far-it’s been a great walk down memory lane!
    If you haven’t already, I’d suggest taking on a ThinkPad 9552 if you get the chance. It was infamous in the repair facility for its complexity: the sheer number of screws (and types of screws), combined with its tricky assembly and troubleshooting of the multiple stacked board sections, made it one of the most challenging systems to work on.

    Awesome repair! One tip--when you're using the CA accelerator, you usually only really need a couple drops. The spray tip that usually comes with those small bottles ends up wasting a lot over the long run. I've found that disposable fine-tipped pipettes work great to dose out small amounts :)

    Oh boy, another insane resto. This is like next level ASMR for retro geeks. Like me! The new crisp transfer application was so satisfying.

      Thanks, man! And it is just as satisfying IRL. I try to make the videos show how fun and rewarding the process is for me while I'm actually doing it!

    I had Dauphin DT-1 pen based PC of the same vintage I bought on close-out (After the company went out of business) in 1995. I was smaller than this unit but had a lot of features in common including the Operating System. This video brought back memories of seeing the 730T in a magazine and wanting it so badly, but it was way too expensive! The DTR-1 was a definitely the cheaper, but not better alternative. This was a great video to watch! Your work is very impressive and shows great attention to detail. This is my first time here, so I subbed in to see more!

      Thanks so much and really appreciate the sub! I’ve got a few other restorations you might enjoy but love hearing about the Dauphin. I didn’t have one myself but had a friend who did and was just blown away that tiny little tablet ran windows. You still have it?

      Sadly no… I cannot remember exactly what happened to it… I know that it was bellow the system requirements to run Windows 95 which came out soon after I bought it. I do remember switching to a SHARP Wizard organizer with pen input. The Dauphin might have gotten sold at a garage sale or given to a friend… Really can’t remember! The ONLY TH-camr I have seen do a video on it was Clint Basinger of on LGR. His house was wrecked by the recent hurricane so I don’t know if his unit survived, But check out his video, he really went all out on it!

    Echoing other comments, this really goes above and beyond. Aside TH-cam it would be good if this work was recognised and utilised elsewhere.

    Awesome high-level work. The 730T is from 1994. I'm searching for a 700T for a long time, maybe I am lucky some day. Actually my oldest one is a 360PE.
