I will absolutely never forget meeting Nergal at a show. It was a U.S. headlining tour, and the first show of the tour was in Baltimore, MD. This was probably 2008 or so, and I was watching an opener warm up, and the merch tables were near-ish the stage, like just off to the side was where all the merch was, instead of being in the back somewhere. I'm just standing there, waiting, and he just casually walks up next to me and starts conversation. I'll never forget it. He asks me who I'm there for, and I say, "your band, man!" I don't think he was expecting to be recognized right away. We talked for a solid five minutes about stuff, he told me to enjoy the show, and I told him to do the same. Such a down to earth dude.
I admire Nergal's integrity. Its not very common to hear about someone overcoming leukemia, or any type of aggressive cancer as far as that goes. Probably was six months of pure Hell for him while he was hospitalized, but at least he kicked it's ass!

Poland has a huge cancer center, though. My cancer center is always battling with them for top spot on clinical trials. They are usually #1 in Europe for certain cancers.

It's amazing to see him so healthy and strong after having gone through leukemia. My brother went through having leukemia and chemo and a bone marrow transplant. He's cancer free and has been for a few years now but he's never been the same since. He was healthy as a horse before getting the damn cancer.

You could be Chinese Nigerian born in Hawaii with German as your first language and you could still tell his english is good, just sayin
I visited Poland twice and met quite a few Poles. Most of them, especially the younger generation, speak English really well.
Nergal is a really cool dude. Always like seeing these guys who make such intense dark music be so cool and personable.
You can hear Myrkur in the background. That was such a badass show. One of the best shows I have seen yet.

Just saw Behemoth live on the Knotfest Roadshow last week and they were fucking amazing.
Nergal sure says "I mean" and "you know" alot
english is not his native language. Sometimes it is hard to express yourself because polish language is rich and complicated.
Other languages have their own vocal pauses. A few examples:
English: like, you know, hm, um and variants that combine one or more
Japanese: Ano
Chinese: Yolo (equivalent to "You know")
Some people can't express an entire sentence without thinking about it multiple times, and that's when vocal pauses come in. You improve them by counting how many you do in something like a lecture or something. Some people can do hundreds of vocal pauses in a long lecture.
ive always spoken english and i still say that stuff in most of my sentences for some reason
you will find most musicians do ESPECIALLY in the studio because youre saying oh how about we add a duh duhd duhd duh ah here theres so many ways that can get lost in translation oh you mean the dah dah sah dah ah here? (wrong spot) or a faster tempo slower tempo wrong notation wrong note the list goes on and on so when artists say ya know to one another its sorta that way of confirming that the other person if following what your saying and if they dont thats usually followed up by a no what do you mean.
i wouldnt call it a vocal pause as much as it is (im making up terms here okay) linguistic conformation

Its always funny watching interviewers with Nergal. It's almost like they're afraid to offend him or disappoint him. And I can see why. He just has a presence about him. You could say an "Unholy' presence if you will. I know i'd be both frightened and in awe of him if i were to talk to him. \m/
It's because your used to seeing how intense he is on stage and I've met him also very cool guy gracious to the fans as he made sure all our stuff was signed and he made sure that we all got the pics with him we wanted nothing hut respect to this guy

@Smithysmithin I can tell you from personal experience he’s one of the nicest, humble and soft spoken people in the world
He's actually amazingly nice to his fans, I saw him close few times and talked on meet & greet in Poland, I really appreciate those times and imo he's type of person that you just can't not like - he's very intelligent but also very nice and human.

These are called 'vocal pauses'. They usually happen when people are unable to express all of their ideas in a linear fashion at once.

Saw Behemoth and Amon Amarth opening for Deicide in LA in 02, i literally had to beg my friends to go to that gig (they were into Cannibal Corpse, Slayer and such only) and when they saw Behemoth and Amon Amarth, they were like “what the fvck was that…” since then they started leaning towards European bands, mainly Black Metal.
This guy is fuckin bad ass! I’m not even a black metal fan. There shows and make up is sick! You don’t have to be a black metal fan to appreciate the showmanship and strength it takes to play music that fast for that long
