He's not shy he's Slav. We're cold, we don't smile, we prefer to think in silence than to talk. IF you were Polish and drunk vodka with him he would open up. Other way? - No chance.
I opened for Behemoth at their first south african show. I crapped my pants when I was playing my set and saw Inferno staring at me from backstage. He is a rather large, intimidating man, but after watching this interview, I really wish I had plucked up the courage to go and say Hi to him. He was nodding his head and 'playing along' to our songs and my drumming, which is something I will never forget.
Wow, congrats :D. That´s quite a memory! What band are you in? Also, did you manage to just continue playing correctly? I would probably just stop functioning completely.
wow thx for sharing what a cool story...i would have kicked my self for not approaching him..many shows Ive been too i was too shy to approach the band guys..and i always regret it haha
Hails unholymunk. Lucky you Bro! Thanks for sharing this unique experience with us. It would be a dream that would become a reality if my main band was to share the stage with them among others. In what band are you in Dude ?
Inferno is dedicated as fuck just like Nergal. I guess that's the major factor why they work together so well. All Behemoth are so dedicated. That's the most fucking inspiring thing about them. Their dedication.
“I play every show like it’s the last show of my life.” No hyperbole, just honesty. I can’t say I’m a fan of Behemoth, but I deeply appreciate the attitude, humility, and the art. This is an eye-opening interview.
Yeah, exactly those things make them my favourite Band (alongside Iron Maiden). The honesty and humility, the calmness and just pure creativity. Everytime i listen to Behemoth, i literally can feel the power that nearly every song emits and i suddenly feel a lot better, especially if i didn't have a great day or something like that. I didn't get to it yet, but one day, i wish to go to a concert to see them.
A mate of mine saw Behemoth on the Demigod Tour in Australia.... for some reason (he was drunk) he jumped on stage and opened his arms up to give Inferno a hug (it was a small club).... Inferno stared at him and gave him a really awkward hug lol
Incredible that being a self-taught drummer has very clear musical technical concepts that led him to be one of the most representative drummers of extreme metal music! I'm really grateful for this episode ! thaks drumtalk !
yeah -- he wasn't too comfortable with the situation -- not because of the topics or me, but like he said it's the cameras. This is the reason of the amount of talking on my side that some people are complaining about. I even cut huge chunks from my parts. But what can you do when your opponent doesn't really say that much? :-) After the show he was in a whole different mood.
Excellent interview: thoughtful questions, honest answers. Inferno comes across as a very humble character. No bullshit, he makes mistakes and he strives to be the best drummer he can be. Legend.
thanks Adrian! agreed, I totally dig his honest personality. the fact that he doesn't like being interviewed is the reason for him not having an interview persona like many pros do
I completely agree in being fully sober without any drugs and or alcohol to perform to the best. This applies to every aspects of creating any form of art.
I think the people below misunderstood the difference between the creative and the executive process. Being in altered states is great when you're writing music, for me, but definitely terrible when it's being performed
what a great interview. i'm genuinely impressed with Inferno's character... he seems like a legit guy who has his struggles, but overcomes them every time he plays. i love how he injects Behemoth's unique style with testosterone. haha

These drumtalks are amazing. Such intimate portraits of these legends we always see in the ultimate seat of power, behind the kit, on the stage. Really cool.
Incredibly nice guy. When he shook my hand he said “shake it like a man, you don’t have to be gentle. We’re men.” Because I guess I didn’t wanna “hurt” his hand (subconsciously) before the show! 😂😂😂 He’s a big, imposing dude too!
Another amaazing drummer that I've been into since 2002! I first heard "As Above, So Below" on some cable tv radio channel way back then, and the drum line immediately sold me. I was on board 100% with the music of Behemoth. I have bought every record since, and my love for Inferno's power and style has only grown! To hear him say that he is self taught absolutely blows me away! That's amazing! My absolute favorite Behemoth memory is seeing them in Detroit in 2018 headlining in support of "I Loved You At Your Darkest." I hadn't picked up the album yet and only heard two songs so far. When the band started "Bartzabel," it jumped straight to the top of my favorite Behemoth songs. Number one, based solely on that drumming. Absolutely incredible! Thanks so much for this great interview!
21:05 - 21:22 I almost cried at this part. Those crazy ideas and speed in The Apostasy, Demigod and Zos Kia Cvltvs is what made me fall in love with Behemoth. These albums were the albums that made me fall in love with death and black metal. Inferno is one of these extreme drummers that made me crazy about all that speed and creativity. It's sad to hear what Inferno says, but people change and do progress. This is what progress is for him and for the band, so I have to accept it. Let's spin The Apostasy now =P Thanks again for this wonderful interview, DrumTalk!
I thought the same watching it today, very sad that those times will not come back again, and those albums too... To be honest I don't like their new stuff, it doesn't make me rise my fist smiling, but as you said people change, time changes and that is simply how it works. Hail Inferno, hail behemoth! let's blast some pazuzu now
Zbiggy!!! My concert going friends when I was living in Houston often ended up hanging out with him, Seth, and Orion afterward since Nergal was usually off doing whatever, and he is one of the friendliest fellows you'd ever want to meet. Big and scary looking, certainly, but once you get him talking he's super nice. Got to see him talking shop (about trigger modules) with George Kollias backstage at Ozzfest in Selma, TX, 13 years ago and that was really something!
I met him few years ago. Very friendly but bit " closed" guy. It's amazing, one of the best drummers in worlds and his shy and humble like 10 years old kid when teacher call him to exam. But when he seating behind kit...he becaming a beast...

Very cool interview. He's so calm and down to earth despite being an international rockstar for more than 2 decades. Saw these guys in St. Pete Florida in 2018 and it was an absolutely mind blowing show.
Wow, Inferno very much strikes me as an "Old Soul". Very calm, collected & gathered in his thoughts before he talks. I'm jealous because I'm the polar opposite & speak everything on my mind and hope my friends have the patience to pick out the important parts. Anyway, I can hear the wisdom in his speech & it sounds like they've been through a lot together as a band. Definitely a lot of personal growth over time. And you can hear it in "I loved you at your Darkest". I little slower, even more cerebral & introspective, and downright tasty. We're going to see great things from them for a long time to come, fate willing. Inferno's quiet, collected & almost shy disposition gives balance to the band. So glad you shared this interview. Mad respect for him.
Thanks for this interview, Inferno is one of my favorite drummers. His work in Behemoth is pure magick. Underground attitude at it's finest. Cheers from the Philippines. Please interview Jon Rice for next season.

I'm totally impressed by how shy this big, famous, brutally drumming guy is. But very friendly and wise, too. Definitely a bigger fan now!
A lot of metal musicians are when out of their element.
he's not shy its just polish way of speaking.

Cool story bro

Inferno has Completly opposite personality and attitude to Nergal xD
My thoughts exactly! Maybe that’s the reason it works out for them :D

True

Nergal is a total prick

Inferno: I do every night

Yes, the strictly Nergal opposite =)
