It's worth noting that the Petsuchos costs 200 gold and gold is a scarce resource in general and Egyptians rely most on it than any other civ while the scorpion man depends on wood, the second easiest resource to get and the easiest to get in the heroic age, thus making the scorpion man generally spammable without a significant blow to your troops production unlike the Petsuchos.
Haha I love the reference to my comment calling them laser crocs! They need to change their ingame name to that! Really loved this video, so glad I subscribed. I can tell this is a channel that i sub to under 1k subscribers but this will blow up when it gets the algorithm's blessing! Can' wait for the next one.
To be honest, when your channel appeared on my feed I thought you had to be one of those huge AoM TH-camrs thats been making videos on the original for years and stuff. Now Im sad because I already watched all your videos. :( Im fully convinced this channel is gonna blow up. Great analysis, great presentation, funny as fuck. Im looking forward to new stuff. :) Also love how you took the criticism in your first videos and already improved through it. Keep going, youve got it figured out :)
Could you make two sepcific video's: 1. Fighting statistics of units, so how the armor percentages work, AoE, divine attack et cetera; 2. Using the functionalities to line or spread your army, so scattering them, keeping them together et cetera. Really enjoy your video's, thank you for putting in all the effort!
Im also realizing: as a kid there were wasnt a lot of material about unit/tech comparisons and the math behind it. Its kind of insane how much thinking you had to do to constantly compare ressources against stats and time and everything else. I think its why I have always been shit at maths except for just eyeballing stuff, working out ratios, multiplying and dividing big numbers in my head, napkin math. Anyone else feel this way? Now Retold got me excited to dig deeper into it the inner workings of AoM. :)
Great work ! I usually pick them with osiris and then go for massive fights with a backline of mummies, chariots and the petsuchos. The mommies' curse make it so that by the time my frontline falls, its replaced by the opponents frontline raised as undead, and the petsuchos theyre here to kill, with the son of osiris its sunrays and lightning So not really expecting it but hoping for a mummy video Mummy ? Sorry... mummy ? Sorry
Your Excel charts are very interesting, I really like them. Perhaps if you showed the chart side by side with the cells with some key numbers, they would be clearer. I use Excel for everything. I often need to display values in column charts to show them to other people in a way that they understand the results more clearly.
Priest analysis!? Great Petsuchos video, I used to love spamming them in groups but now they feel too weak and now I know why, at least they look cool and have teeth!
Honestly it doesn't surprise me that it would have some Greek-ish ties phonetically. There was a decent chunk of Egypt that was influenced by Greece- I don't really know if the Egyptians in AoM are the classical greek era, or well before that. "Ancient Greece" is like 2k+ years or something, it has variation. Also, how does the damage come out to 40(4x the listed damage)+10(5x the listed damage)? Is it actually 2.5?
Thanks for doing these deep dives, AOM is my favorite RTS and I was disappointed that other channels that did similar analysis didn't bother with Age of Mythology. The launch looked promising with how many people gave it a shot after all these years, but it seems that those who have always liked AOM have stuck with it as usual, while the rest moved on immediately lol. Nature of the beast I guess. And will you ever dive into some of the weird civ mechanics in future? Some of the changes are still baffling to me, but not necessarily unwelcome.
One of my favorites is Grubby, I wish he liked AoM, but ultimately, it is what it is :). Can't force it. Open to requests/suggestions! What did you have in mind?
You're an amazing content creator, Bennoloth. Please make a somewhat recognizable icon for the channel or a distinctive channel name (maybe with "AoM analysis" at the end, like: Bennoloth - AoM analysis; or something like that). I always have trouble finding your videos in my feed because your channel name sounds a bit like RPG and gets mixed up with other names that appear in the feed.
I tried to standardize the thumbnail based on your previous suggestion. So I was going to keep the green/red background for each thumbnail. Maybe I should change the channel name too. Thanks.
@@bennoloth I tried to search for you channel today. Unless I search the exact name, you channel doesn't come up. Your double N in Bennoloth also let the search to go astray, very strange since I'm subscribed. I just wish they functioned more like Void Rays from Starcraft 2, firing a constant damage over time beam that when upgraded ramps over time. I hate the slow fire rate with high damage that leads to wasting attack time finishing off targets when they could be moving on to something else.
A well beneath a tree? I am assuming the tree is the world tree Yggdrasil, and the well one of the three wellsprings beneath this tree. Those can be: Urdarbrunnr - this wellspring is associated with the three Norns: Urdr, Verdandi, and Skuld, who set down laws for how the life of people will go Hvergelmir - is said to have been located in Niflheim and that it was a source of many rivers Mimisbrunnr - associated with Mimir, a wellspring of wisdom where Odin is said to have sacrificed one of his eyes for a drink of wisdom Perhaps the single priest is supposed to represent Mimir and therefore the well in the video is Mimisbrunnr. Mimisbrunnr was said to be located near the home of the frost jotunn. Perhaps this is connected to Skadi, who has the Winter Harvest upgrade, which might be represented by the berry bushes (although she was more of a goddess of the winter, hunt and skiing) While my guess is not 100% because of other out-of-game factors, I think the next video will be about *Frost Giants* Or I'm just babbling :D Either case, please keep going! Awesome vids
Greeks and Egyptians were great friends as countries so they always borrowed stuff from one another, sometimes even words similarly to modern times where europeans can use French Greek or Italian words to describe everyday objects instead of saying them in their own language. Not that makes it anyway accurate for this example but I would say they prob followed that line of thought when implementing the names. We don't exactly have any evidence or findings to tell us how ancient egyptian was spoken, as in accent and alphabet.
No Idea what your Format ist but i would guess Units, so maybe it will be The behavior of Berry bushes. The First time i have heared of petsobek was from a 3:33:33 Long Video titled "The best RTS you have never heared of" or something Like that. Idk i have only Seen that Video Like 8 Times. Anyway it is great to See sobek getting some Love. Consider me subscribed.
You're right! According to Wikipedia, "Sobek first acquired a role as a solar deity through his connection to Horus, but this was further strengthened in later periods with the emergence of Sobek-Ra, a fusion of Sobek and Egypt's primary sun god, Ra."
@@bennoloth that's an interesting find ! I was mostly referring to that line in the wiki "They are available to Hathor. Their upgraded form is called Petsuchos Ra."
Egyptian Myth units in general seem to be rather underutilized. A lot of the meta minor gods are chosen for their hero power and tech options rather than their myth unit (Sphyx is a notable exception to this rule, players can and have invested into Sphynx in order to maximize the damage from an ancestor eclipse push.).
Most of them are underpowered, slow or fragile, specially compared to myth units of other civs. Sphinx nor anubites have nearly as much damage or utility as centaurs or valkyres. Wadjets, scarabs and crocs are super slow and get hunted down easily. Mummies, avengers and phoenixes are made of paper, even though they have plenty of damage. Only scorps are adequate enough.
@@BVasquezp I feel like Minotaur is a better comparison for the Sphinx than Valk or Centaur, but even there I can see how the extra bulk and damage of the Minotaur is preferable to Sphinx's better speed and building damage. I think they overestimated the utility of early crush damage a tad, Sphinx pays quite a bit in stats for it and it's still one of the better Egyptian myth units (I think it's on par with the scorp men). Scarabs are basically just big war elephants. Once again decent enough for killing buildings, but that just isn't what the game is about at higher levels. If you can have your slow melee siege units just waddle up and start hitting their fortresses, you're already winning. And yeah Egypt has the saddest set of mythic age myth units in the game. I can't even pretend to defend those. Avengers are especially sad with how badly they just die the moment they try to do anything.
@@webbowser8834 The only reason I think Avengers are any good compared to the others is their absolute blender attack which can potentially* disrupt an enemy player who is going heavy melee. Agreed though on Phoenix's and Mummies. (*When I say potentially I mean usually either as a surprise addition to your army during an extended fight, or if you mass them knowing ahead of time that your opponent is All-in on melee options, in which case I think they are actually quite scary)

Q: Why can’t the petsuchos swim?
A: He doesn’t want to get his cool hat wet
I would also be to dangerous to get an electric shock when activating their laser canon while swimming :D
Awesome work!
Petsuchos: "oh? You're approaching me?"
Next vid maybe about priests, or maybe empowering gathered resources. Either way, love me some AoMR stat comparisons, keep up the good work!
Petsuchos were some of my FAVORITE myth units back in the day. They were just so CUTE!
The Phoenix always seems so impressive to me. No lips, no tongue, beek only but still it ducks such a massive sick.

True to a degree, but they still cost quite a bit more favor. Hard to compare myth units cost with favor in the mix.
This video reminded me for some reason on all of those "good old TH-cam videos" if you know what i mean keep up the good work.
Amazing vid💖, underrated channel
Valkyrie because the berry bushes represent the food cost, the well represents the pantheon and the priest represents the healing factor?
Amazing video!!! We need more of these!
I have a Feeling the next Video will be about the Valkyries
Like most high ranged damage tanky units, lascrocs make a mean deathball, even against heroes. Also I reckon the next video will be about priests.
