There’s a huge difference between simply being a ‘manager’ and being a ‘leader’.
In short - Not every manager knows how to lead.
The key is understanding how to apply some basic people-oriented principles which will help you become the transformational leader you want to be - who inspires, empowers and supports others to be their best… while creating a high performing team.
These principles apply even if you’re not ‘yet’ a leader - they can help shape your mindset and provide tips on how to empower others in your team. You don’t have to wait until you have the title before you demonstrate authentic leadership qualities.
As Maya Angelou sais: “At the end of the day people won't remember what you said or did, they will remember how you made them feel.”
And when people feel valued, respected and appreciated, guess what? They perform.
    What’s your best leadership tip?

    1) Appreciate more!
    2) Appreciate teammate's strengths and what value they bring.
    3) Feel them valued. - Listen to them, empathize with them, genuinely care for them in life.

Saw this video again after about 2 years. Thanks for amazingly simplifying the how to transition into being a leader. One of the challenges that we often have to deal with is create right balance between empathy | leveraging strengths Vs giving constructive feedback for business outcome.

    Just to share my experience...
I realised leading a team is largely a matter of people management. Once one can do that, it could do wonders to the project and the whole team. In fact I would say a large part of project is already taken care of if one could manage people with like you say with due appreciation and giving credit to them individually and collectively.
And what is amazing for me is that you put all of it that goes into leading a team into such a simple and effective sort of technique. Brilliant. 👌👌👌
That's what I know you for Shadé!

Liked a lot what you presented as your experience! 👌

Shade Mam you have distinguished very clearly between management and leadership. I have learnt very important things from this video like
    The 3 Principles:
1.Appreciating and acknowledging others good work.
    2. Focussing the positive things and celebrating their strengths and values.
    3. Valuing the people by
a.Listening to them with full attention.
    b.Exhibiting Empathy.
c.Caring about the team outside work.
Thank you for your efforts Shade mam and keep up the good work.

    3. Pay attention.

Well, whether you are a manager or a subordinate, leadership quality in a person comes from his personal and professional experiences. Good leaders possess self-awareness, garner credibility, focus on relationship-building, have a bias for action, exhibit humility, empower others, stay authentic, present themselves as constant and consistent, become role models and are fully present

And employees should have a respect and appreciate the job they are. A lot of managers are frustrated because people except so much but under perform then get upset when you call
Them out. everything you say sounds good but there’s rude employees that don’t really give a hoot and are there for a pay check. It’s sound like you’re asking managers to coddle their employees. Yes applaud them but there’s work to do. A manager had a huge duty it’s too much to go around and wonder about everyone’s feelings . There’s work to do

    Hi Shade,
    Im jay, from Dubai.
    Age 30, unmarried, 0 saving.
    I'm listing you daily.
I'm in very depression right now. Last 6 months i was jobless then i got last month a very good offer in banking sector(sales job). But same time i got another offer less salary and easy job. I went for easy job and rejected the good offer(bank) and I'm not enjoying this job as well because very small company, no meetings, nothing, just typical work. So the point is I'm feeling i lost big opportunity in my life and finish everything, very depressing, regretting my decision which i made. Totally disaster in my life. Not enjoying anything. Salary difference is 50% as well.
    Kindly advise me.
    Thanks

    • @ShadeZahrai
      @ShadeZahrai  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Thanks for reaching out Jay and sorry to hear about your unhappiness. You're always going to struggle if you attach your happiness to material success, to think about "what if..." and to live in regret. This mindset only weakens us because it is impossible to travel back in time. Instead focus on finding things to be grateful for right now, learning from your experiences, being of value to others and planning for a better future. 30 is young and there will always be more opportunities.
If you are in a truly depressed state get help from a qualified professional and make time to help those that are in a worst condition than you. Make time to do something that also brings you joy. This will help you get out of the rut that you're in. And when you begin to start feeling better that's when you'll find the strength and drive to make changes.
For me this quote summarizes the importance of maintaining a positive state "Joy gives us wings! In times of joy our strength is more vital, our intellect keener, and our understanding less clouded. We seem better able to cope with the world and to find our sphere of usefulness. But when sadness visits us we become weak, our strength leaves us, our comprehension is dim and our intelligence veiled." - ‘Abdu’l-Bahá
Wishing you all the very best

Despite being ingenious innovators,do you know how ruthless were Thomas Alva Edison and Steve Jobs ? And,look at what happened to the kind-hearted Nikola Tesla.

    • @ShadeZahrai
      @ShadeZahrai  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

You raise a very important issue. The accelerating gap of wealth inequality driven by rampant materialism and the desperate need for a diverse world whose values are firmly established upon justice and unity is arguably the most urgent requirement of our age. In time this transformation will happen after humanity emerges from more intensifying calamities that will force us to work together and to transcend our archaic paradigms of greed and unhealthy competition.
For the purposes of this video we are mainly focusing on frontline to mid-upper management. Improving the conditions and wellbeing of the workplace can make a huge impact on the wellbeing of every day people. This is also good for productivity. Being kind should never be at the expense of standing up for justice in a civilized manner - I hope that more people start to understand that these are not mutually exclusive.
