The state religion of the Tang Dynasty was Buddhism, the state religion of the Yuan and Ming dynasties was Taoism, and the state religion of the Qing Dynasty was Tibetan Buddhism. When did Muslims rule China? How come I've never heard of it? Just because some Muslims became officials?

China has never been predominantly ruled by Muslims. However, there are instances in Chinese history where Muslim leaders or groups had significant influence.
Yuan Dynasty (1271-1368): The Yuan dynasty, established by the Mongol Empire under Kublai Khan, saw significant Muslim influence. The Mongols employed Central Asian Muslims in various administrative roles. This influence was more about the Mongol's pragmatic approach to governance rather than a widespread Islamic rule over China.
Ming Dynasty (1368-1644): During the Ming dynasty, several Muslim generals played prominent roles in the military. The most famous among them was Zheng He, a Hui Chinese mariner, explorer, diplomat, and fleet admiral, who led seven major expeditions to the western oceans (South East Asia, South Asia, Western Asia, and East Africa).
Qing Dynasty (1644-1912): The Qing dynasty saw some Muslim rebellions, most notably the Dungan Revolt (1862-1877) and the Panthay Rebellion (1856-1873), which were not aimed at establishing a Muslim rule but were more in response to local grievances.
In modern China, Muslims are a minority, with the largest groups being the Hui and Uighurs. While there have been influential Muslim figures in Chinese history, the political governance of China has predominantly been under non-Muslim rulers.

There was a Chinese emperor who converted to Islam at the end of his life, namely the emperor "Zhengde/Wuzong" (the 11th emperor of Ming). The source of information from the notes of Ali Akbar Kețat, a traveler from Bukhara who often called himself "qalandar" (dervish), in chapters 2, 8, and 15 of Keţây-nāma, his travel notes to China which were completed in Istanbul in 1516. This note was confirmed by Na Jufeng, a Muslim historian who graduated from Nanjing University in a paper entitled "Ming Wuzong Hujiao Xinyang Kao" (Exploring the Islam of Emperor Ming Wuzong) published in the journal Shijie Zongjiao Yanjiu (Studies in World Religions) volume 02 in 2012.

There are no evidence that Emperor Zhengde converted to Islam. However he employed many of them to serve in the Imperial Court. A travelogue known as Khataynameh was written by the Central Asian merchant by the name of Ali Akbar Khata'i, recorded that there was a grand mosque in Beijing and the Emperor used to piously practice the religion. But that was more of a local myth among Hui Muslims rather than fact.

I would't go as far as saying China was ruled by Muslims. The Mongo Yuan dynasty was very tolerant in terms of religion and Muslims occupied some high ranking positions. They were conquered by the Mongols before the Chinese were conquered by the Mongols so Mongols trusted them more. The official religion of the Mongols were Tibetan Buddhism though so Tibetans enjoyed higher status, also in the Qing Manchu dynasty from 1640s-1911.

This video is unfortunately misleading and wrong on multiple points. (Completely wrong). The Chinese was the continent where traders set out to meet (it was the silk road back then and China was the expo and convention hub during the era.) Even long BEFORE the time of the Ottoman era, the Chinese are known to be kind and accepting. Even Guangzhou had an area where one of the officials gave a muslim friendly area in the city and even built structures as part of the hospitable nature of the Chinese. how does any of this suddenly become "ruled by muslims"? The closest country that was RULED and conquered by the Muslims is india, because india lost every skirmish and had to constantly run south.

Heres something you may find interesting. :)
The name of my country has nothing to do with the interesting and delicious bird ''turkey''......
.....but the name of the bird does have a connection with the name of my country, let me explain. :)
Name of my country has always been Türkiye, it's been known as such since around the 1200's.
The name it self has a suffix, '' -iye '', that is Turk-iye, where the -iye suffix means 'land of/belonging to',
just like the Latin suffix of '' -ia '', which exists in such country names like
    Austr-ia, Austral-ia, Latv-ia, Roman-ia etc etc again meaning 'land of/belonging to'.
Many would remember the country Czechoslovak-ia which changed it's name to Czech Republic and a few years ago changed that to Czechia (that is Czech-ia).
The Latin suffix -ia probably originates from Turkish -iye as Turkish is much older, ancient Turkish been over ten thousand years old.
Spelled in different languages in different ways to phonetically resemble '' Türkiye ''
    we got various spellings like;
    Turquía (in Spanish),
    Turchia (in Italian),
    Turquie (in French) and
    Turkey (in English)
all trying to resemble the pronounciation of ''Turk-ia'' thus Turkiye.
Mind you this was way before the animal we currently know as 'turkey'' was found by the europeans when they explored the north americas. The bird was first sent to europe from north americas in the year 1519, so up until that point there was no bird named 'turkey'....
...they came across the bird and thought it was a specie of the fowl/chicken they had been buying from the country of Turkiye at the time, so they named the bird ''Turkey Fowl'' meaning ''Turkish Chicken''.....
....just like how a dog breed is known as German Shepherd (because it's from Germany), American Bulldog, British Terrier, Greek Harehound etc etc.
In time you don't get to call the Greek Harehound as simply as ''Greek''; or you don't call the British Terrier as ''British''; or the German Shepherd as ''German'', but in time the Turkish Fowl started to be called just ''Turkey'' and later ''turkey'', and has been going on for hundreds of years.
Now in modern times, this is causing confusion, especially when we have people across the world unable to point to their own country on the map, this ''confusion over the naming'' needed to be corrected.
So my country decided to rectify this confusion that has been going on for so long and corrected the name to Türkiye, which it always was. Basically we didn't change the name of our country, we changed the mistake made in the English language. : )
So, there's some tid bit information for you to have a great day, if you read upto this point you have a great night too, ohh just have a wonderfull life. : )
    Best wishes. ;)

Assalamualaikum, there were some leaders of China (From Ming Dynasty) have been Muslims by accounts of some scholars, but it was in Private and they did not express their religion. The founder of the dynasty, the Hong Gwu emperor. And his descendent jean- der emperor who was in the 16th century.
Hong Gwu built mosques around his kingdom, he also has a poem in honor of the Prophet, where the way he talked about the prophet, feels like a Muslim is talking! In fact, we know that his Wife, many of his family members and his trusted generals were Muslims.
Jean- Der emperor was witnessing praying in the mosque in Beijing, banned swine consumption, commissioned artifacts with Islamic inscriptions, and he also had a penchant for Muslim ladies. Add to that his waging successful campaigns against the Portuguese in defense of his Malaya Muslim ally, where he executed numerous captured Portuguese statesmen in revenge for committing atrocities against the Melaka sultanate
So we can say that China had at least some emperors who were Muslims!
