In 2008 there were only 16 games so the Lions were 0-16 before drafting Stafford.
2008 Lions were so bad, they lost the bye week.

No, they were bad… but they had a brutal schedule. Give them the schedule that the Rams had and they’d be 1-15 or 2-14. If the Rams had the Lions schedule that year they’d be 0-16, with an average margin of defeat of 20 points.
Stafford was the prince that promised to bring Lions playoff win. Promise fulfilled one way or another.
The whole franchise made a complete turnaround when Sheila took over ownership duties.👍

I was at the Lions Rams playoff game and heard the deafening boos when Stafford took the field. Even though he is the best quarterback to play for the Lions in living memory there is a large portion of the fan base that will blame him solely for all of the disappointments while he was on the team while lauding Goff for being the biggest reason for the Lion's current success
Stafford was a warrior and the only reason for hope in Detroit. He couldn't overcome the inept management in Detroit. Yr 1 with a well run organization he won it all. If Detroit had a quality front office when Stafford was drafted, there's no telling what he could have accomplished here. Will always love Stafford, love Goff, but can't help but wonder what if, had Stafford had this front office and coaching staff when he was drafted.
Actually half of Lions fans can't stand him, even when he was here. Personally, I've never disliked an athlete more than I dislike Stafford and I'm a die hard Lions fan.

@krash22mini72 not the preseason. Lions actually won all 4 preseason games that year.
And so did the Browns in their 0-16 year.
I was at this game and it was absolutely lit. The entire environment was insane.
Goff to Sun God was the connection that won the first game of the Dan Campbell era. Of course that's the connection that gets the win over the Rams.

Great video, one minor suggestion at 5:36 "these lions brought tears of joy to fans all over Detroit." should be "fans all over Michigan" i was born in march of 91. first playoff win for my team in my life, i definitely cried a little.

Stafford is actually one of the greatest qbs the lions have had. Goff is damn good though too, couple years from now im sure goff will have his ring maybe this year

Let's not forget the fact that the reason why the Lions were matched up against the Rams in the Wild Card game (instead of the #1 seed) was the ridiculous call that Decker failed to report as an eligible receiver in Cowboys game. It all worked out in the end for the Lions and the fans, as they made it to the NFC Championship game (heartbreak!). But we never would have had this epic playoff win against Stafford and the Rams at home had that game ended differently. So many wild moments that season!
It wasn't Decker who failed to report it was Skipper.
Edit: excuse me, Skipper did report, the refs just got it wrong.

First off, outting stafford for being the reason the lions couldnt get it done is wild. He was the only bright spot for YEARS on that squad. With no o line or runnin game? Yeah, lets not put the blame on Matt here.
The most poetic part was the refs being on the Lions side at the end after years of being against them
very questionable holding call on the rams costing them the game and then next week lions kinda got screwed on some calls vs the 49ers which may have cost them the game. very poetic indeed.

I hate when people say the new regime traded Stafford and completely fail to mention that Stafford requested a trade. It makes it sound like he still wanted to be here but they traded him anyway…this was a good vid but you left out that important part of the story

Maybe it’s just me but I always felt like the Rams could have attempted a 62-yard field goal with Maher after they faced 4th and 14 at the lions 44 yard line instead of punting it away. I know it’s a low percentage kick but Maher is known for his leg and the Rams would have needed to stop the Lions anyway
You have to also think about field position if you miss the field goal. Makes that stop a lot more difficult on a short field.

Stafford had games he should have won but the Defense just clasped and one season I couldn't believe all dropped passes and the offensive line the whole time he was in Detroit was at best mediocre. I remember Matthew playing Green Bay in 2011 he threw for over 500 yards and five TDs and lost to there back up QB who threw for over 600 yards and 6 TD and the only decent running back while he was here was Reggie Bush at the very end of his career, he was mediocre with a mediocre offensive line. Matt got hit a lot, fractured a vertebrae in his back. If Mathew gets 4000 yards this year he will move in to 10th all time in passing yards.

Yeah, losing in the Conference Championship is what we do every year, can’t believe no one’s talking about our signature move that definitely happens all the time, year after year.
Stafford sucks. The man has a superbowl win under his belt, but he was just a plug-in piece on a team that sold the farm to get there and they haven’t been good since. He’s never even won a division title. Not with either team. 🤷♀️
So, what do you consider a good quarterback? I feel as though he wasn't just a "plug-in in piece" 41 touchdowns and 9 in the playoffs isn't nothing

That’s part of what’s earned him the nickname “Statford.” All kinds of stats, holds almost every Lions’ franchise record, but ultimately has little to show for it. He’s not a HOFer. Certainly not a first ballot. Truthfully, Goff has done way more in 3 years in Detroit than Stafford did in 12.
How do the Rams host 2 playoff games during their super bowl run, without winning the division?
