    As much as I would have liked to see this scene in the movie, it makes sense why they deleted it. Katniss is constantly worried about what is happening to Peeta because she is completely in the dark. Giving the audience information about him that Katniss doesn’t know creates a disconnect as we wouldn’t feel the same emotions as her.

      @@mayieee0826 Peeta gets hijacked using Tracker Jacker venom, which gives him dillusions. They (the capitol) mess up with his memories with this, and make him hate Katniss to the point that he sees her as life threatening. Along with the venom, they torture him with various other methods, including making him witness the torture of the avoxes who served him before the games. By the time the rebels rescue Peeta, he's mentally, emotionally, and physically completely broken.
      Johanna is also tortured in various ways, including put in water and electrocuted. She develops a terrible phobia of water, and when she's rescued, she never uses the shower (she only wipes herself down with damp cloth to clean herself), and hesitates to get out in the simulated rain which she was supposed to be training in, in district 13. After her training, she fails the test from the rebels army in 13 that targets her weakness, in which they use water, because of her phobia. This is the reason in the book why we don't see her in the front line of the rebels along with Katniss and Finnick.

      It is Katniss's POV but the movies have allowed other characters or scenes to play out without her on the screen several times before, with Seneca Crane and the berries which we never got to experience in the books and it was known he was killed but it just an ironic rumor that Snow did it using the actual berries, we never get to know for sure. They do it again when the rebels are carrying bombs to the gate and singing her Hanging Tree song, we get their perspective and follow a few different people with multiple camera shots with different people marching, Katniss only heard about it from the news in the books, there was never any footage filmed of them. We also get to see several scenes with Snow in his house with his granddaughter and her undoing her braid and shots of inside the gamemakers control center with both Seneca and Plutarch on their own giving out commands/praises and interacting with Snow.

      Because at first i thought that maybe Peeta was a traitor and that he was betraying Katniss and Panem. But then at the end, it tells us that he was tortured and hijacked to do everything he did. But with this scene we would have know early into the movie that Peeta was forced into doing what he does by Snow, so it takes away some suspense...but it's cool to have this scene still. He is the one who ended up suffering the most in the whole book series and that alone is enough to hurt me, seeing him being tortured would be interesting but really hard for me.

If you read the books you can’t deny he is a perfect president Snow, he has a powerful and charismatic personality just like every psychopath and also has really great quotes that actually make sense in his way of seeing the world, like you can understand him just by Sutherlands acting and the way he speaks and explains that fascist society they live in actually makes you think: that makes sense even if it’s horrible and that’s what makes him a really wonderful villain

    I think the really clever thing about the Hunger Games is that Katniss was never a character you were supposed to nor required to like for the story to work. The character that was the most symphatic and charismatic throughout the whole series is Peeta (at least for everyone I've talked to). He is really compassionate, caring and in a society that is filled with violence he is the one person that doesn't want to accept and use it. He is rebellious on a whole different level. And you can notice that not only did he make people like Katniss in the book, but he also makes people reading the story or watching it like Katniss more, I noticed this at least for myself. And because he is so kind, caring and opposed to violence, seeing the results of his torture in the capitol is one of the cruellest things in the story, how they destroyed such a good person. I think the movie worked well without this scene, but seeing him relatively healthy and normal in the beginning, might have enhanced the impact his look at the end of the movie had.

    • @rahmatawfik137
      @rahmatawfik137 2 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      What u say is true, katniss was never the likeable one. In the books and movies, they constantly tell her to smile more and charm more, and truly the acting that was done on camera for the show was just to show people watching the movie what it's really like to suffer behind a camera. That goes for everyone. Then each character gets their arc, while peeta, every part of him was being destroyed in his mind, katniss saw everything fall apart without getting even a scratch on her ( by scratch I mean here something extremely severe, I know she got shot ) because she's the Mockingjay. They all suffered but, because they are well written characters, and we have no one to shout out here except the author for being brilliant, peeta just keeps getting kinder and tries for forgive, while katniss was damaged from all that she saw and of what happens to her family. So I guess in my opinion, peeta suffered the most but he has a change to move on a little bit, while katniss I think part of her never heeled I think. I mean both of them really, who can heel from that but it's just such a good ending and now I think I'm rambling 😅.

    • @FrakkinToasterLuvva
      @FrakkinToasterLuvva 2 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      I loved Katniss from start to finish. I loved everything about her while reading her POV. So I guess your "Katniss is not likable" shtick doesn’t work for me
      Katniss is not charming or socially adapt like Peeta, but she is just as deeply compassionate. She had to hunt and provide for her family and be the head of the family at 12 and is deeply emotionally repressed so she thinks she is a ruthless survivalist, but in fact, she is always ready to sacrifice herself- for her sister, later want to do it for Peeta, she is always siding with the underdpgs and trying to protect people, it's in her nature.

    • @rzuue
      @rzuue 2 ปีที่แล้ว +13

      @@FrakkinToasterLuvva I think you maybe misunderstood. I didn’t say Katniss is not likeable, something like that ultimately depends on the reader/audience and is subjective. I said that it’s not necessary for the audience to like her, the story works either way, she is interesting to follow either way. Her decisions are not framed as being always right or anything, she is a very flawed person whom you don’t need to like, but you can still understand her.
      On the other hand, if someone really doesn’t like Peeta, I feel like especially the last third of the story will not work for them.
      And the two are interdependent. If you like one of them, you will also care about the other one eventually, since they care about each other. And since it’s a well-developed relationship, and not just sth like „she loves him so much“ with no evidence shown, I believe it is unlikely someone will not care if they like at least one of the two.
      I hope I made a little clearer what I meant.

    • @FrakkinToasterLuvva
      @FrakkinToasterLuvva 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@rzuue Yes, that is all true.
      But I generally think characters don't have to be "likable" as much ss they need to be compelling, and that goes for every story.
      I still personally don't understand people who dislike/hate Katniss. There is so much to both admire and feel sorry for her.
      Now, Snow in the prequel - that's a great example of a character definitely not likable - not in the usual sense of the word, anyway, but that I found incredibly interesting reading about and getting into his head.

    • @rzuue
      @rzuue 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@FrakkinToasterLuvva I generally agree with you, but at the same time it takes great skill as a writer/actor/director to make a character that really has their own mind and might be acting impulsive, irrational or cruel still compelling enough for the audience to be interested and okay with following them as the mc. I personally have a hard time reading or following stories where I don’t like the main character in the sense of being able to follow their reasoning, to mostly understand why they think or acted the way they did or for them to be at least thought-provoking.
      If katniss would’ve been portrayed as less flawed as she is, if the audience wouldn’t have had the room to independently decide what they think of each of her actions and reactions, then I think I would’ve had a hard time liking her.
      A large part I’m trying to point out here, is how they refrained from portraying her a certain way and mostly let her actions give you the necessary basis to built an opinion. A very clever move, in addition, is the discrepancy between how others see her and how she perceives herself and then her actions. This gives you so many possible ways to judge her that you feel free to agree or disagree with any point of view. And I just admire that kind of clever approach.

(I don't really have an issue with associating an actor to their role, if they are good at their job it should be okay). Sutherland said that he immediately recognized how important the story was after seeing the little text his character had, and really wanted to be in it, that is awesome.
      And that is the thing about Snow, and so many other similar characters in dystopia (by this I mostly mean classical rather than YA, as I'm a huge fan of the former)- he isn't exactly wrong or lying. He's abusing or even creating truth.

    I'll give credit that this scene does show how little Peeta seems to know about what has happened, especially the fate of District 12 and his family. It reveals that his perspective is being manipulated than just being tortured and hijacked by venom that would come later. I also like how we see more of the innocence of Snow's granddaughter, as she's just someone who is oblivious to the terrible things going on, which sets up for the disgust in what Coin proposes to the surviving victors at the end of the next film. And lastly, it's great to see more of Donald Sutherland's amazing acting as President Snow.
    But this scene was rightfully cut from the film for two good reasons. While it does give us insight into what is happening with Peeta and more of Slutherland as Snow, it isn't necessary to the story. Reason one is that by knowing next to nothing of what is happening with Peeta, we are able to connect more with Katniss and be in her shoes. Reason two is that we have plenty of scenes with Sutherland's performance as Snow, so this doesn't add much of what was already established.

    i think they shouldve kept this scene in. Shows more of Peeta's defiant side. I think they were missing some of that in the 2 Mockingjay films.

    I'm glad they didn't add this in. It would have given away the whole ending of Mocking Jay, no point in the whole movie either. It was good that they did that, it kind of left a mystery but a hint that we knew what was happening to Peeta but not extactly everything. As the Hunger Games being a movie, not having this included I think was a good idea. It would have given out too much info to the audience...

    After watching the new movie I understand the four districts 12 victors: Katniss was a hunter in a performance, Lucy was a performer in a hunt, Peeta was a performer in a performance and Haymitch was a hunter in a hunt.

      Hovig Hovasapian Maybe. Just depends on how much damage she’d done or if Panem woulda been in much worse shape then before

      I'm so glad Katniss killed Coin. She knew Snow would die soon, anyway, since his health was failing rapidly now that he wasn't getting the treatments he needed to keep the damage at bay caused by the times the antidote to his poison didn't fully protect him. This way, Panem was rid of both of them. Coin was literally the female equivalent of Snow, equally power hungry, cold, and ruthless. I doubt Panem could have survived two such Presidents in a row.

    I like this scene because it mentions the dark days but I’m glad it was deleted because 1) without it we never really know what peeta is going through and that allows us to be on this journey with katniss in hope for peeta and 2) snow mentions katniss’ name this is the only time he called her actual name and not miss Everdeen and in light of the new ballad of songbirds and snakes having snow not say katniss throughout the whole movies shows how effected he still is by Lucy gray and I think that’s quite a symbolic thing.

    Having almost finished the prequel book and planning to see the movie soon, I am actually greatful to see this scene. It reaffirms that Snow saw himself in Peta and Lucy in Katniss. His sentiment is so consistant through this prequel and this solidifies it more in the originals.
    It would have felt really juxtaposed for Peeta's character without him having a rejection response scene or something, but I really like it and wish they kept it in.
