I feel like people really underestimate how good of an actor Josh Hutcherson really is. Just look at the emotion he is using not only in his face, but in the way he talks as well.

The clothing Peeta is wearing here is very representative of his mental state. The awkwardly oversized collars that are turned off center reinforce the idea that something is wrong, unusual, and that Peeta is not "right". The tight coat that almost seems to be restricting his breathing emphasizes that he is being controlled. In another scene, Peeta is wearing an all white suit, with a collar that comes up to a sharp point aimed at the center of his neck, as if to symbolically represent a knife being held to his throat to force his cooperation.

I applaud Josh for nailing Peeta's televised interviews and this warning SO WELL here and in the last film. you can really see the tear on his left eye come down his face when he talks to Katniss give the guy an Oscar already, he really deserves one

You wouldn't look so well if you were beaten, starved, injected with numerous amounts of tracker jacker venom to destroy your memories and brainwash you into become a puppet for an psychotic evil dictator. So his face is not scary, it's a physical reminder of all the horror he has been through.
I think if they showed blood shattering on the floor with peeta's scream (like in the book) it would have more effect on us and than we would understand katniss more.

The reason why they didn't show Peeta's blood splattering everywhere was because then it wouldn't be a PG 13 movie anymore it would be rated R. That's why in the first one with the bloodbath, they played music and didn't have any sound effects.

Susanne Collins is genius. The poem of the Hanging Man matches up perfectly to this scene. When the 'dead man calls out to flee', the Peeta who he was before was dead and his love was Katniss, warning her about what would happen. There's so many hidden things about these books that are absolutely genius.

Jentrap Well think about several things.
1.) They were about to be bombed and had to haul ass to the bunkers in less time than it takes to bake a batch of cookies.
2.) That, and people are worried about themselves and their own family.
3.) District 13 barely survived a war and is a dreary place overall. :P

Well they were busy with the fact they were about to be bombed. Tbh, Katniss, Haymitch, and Finnick were pretty much the only ones who had Peeta on the forefront of their minds because they knew him personally. They knew that while they had escaped the games, he and the other Victors were skill playing them. Everyone else was pretty much worried about the war and the recent news of the bombing that comforting Katniss wasn't a priority. Even Gale didnt care about what happened to Peeta and didnt care much about Katniss' begging for him (he did volunteer to rescue him for her, but still).
I think you might be missing part of the point here. The reason why "The Hunger Games" is so compelling is precisely because it does not pull its punches and hide behind literary cliches and tropes. This is not your typical work of fiction in which (in the words of Miss Prism from Oscar Wilde's The Importance Of Being Earnest) "the good ended happily and the bad unhappily." If you read or listen to interviews with the author Suzanne Collins and learn about what prompted her to write this, you realize that she's trying to call our attention to the cruelty and injustice and unnecessary suffering associated with conflict. The truth is that in a world like that of Panem, comfort is something of a rare luxury and pain is part of everyday life. On some level, what good does it or would it do to offer comfort to Katniss when it is to a significant degree her pain and her anger that leads her to become the Mockingjay? Haymitch is absolutely right when he says in the film that Katniss can't do staged propos -- she's too honest and too passionate for that and when she tries to fake it, she's not convincing.

Agree or not, but Josh Hutcherson's acting here is MAGNIFICENT. Look at how his eyes express the pain he needed to endure and the natural emotion of him wanting to protect Katniss - even if it would cost him his life. What a man!

these comments are so frustrating obviously the movie will not be an exact replica of the book some things are told differently on screen than in the book. in this clip, while you dont see blood its still obvious that peeta was not supposed to say what he did and that he will be punished for it by the way he was being grabbed and how they cut the footage off. the scene still relays the essence of what happened in the book and the implications and aftermath of peetas warning

Peeta was playing the game since day 1. Smartest boy in the books, there’s no doubt in my mind that Gale wouldn’t have been able to do half the things Peeta did when they first went in

i think that peetas the hero even if he killed someone and tried to kill katniss he didnt mean to. he went through hell and back and he is still going through nightmares of it but he is still able to go there and fight and he said sry for what he did and he couldnt control it. Also peeta always helps and he even stood up for gale by saying" if u want to get him u have to go through me first" when gale got wipped. if u think about it, gale would have never done that for peeta and he even called peeta a coward when he was doing an interview but he was tortured. He also thinks about everyone else before himself even if it costs his life. and you can tell that he is rly trying very hard to stay in reality and not go back to the nightmares of when he was tortured in the capitol. he did all of that and he was still hurt on the inside and was in pain for different reasons and he respected gale as katniss' friend while gale would yell at katniss if she did something he didnt like with peeta. And yes of course there might be other people that saved peoples lives but peeta is the only one who still did it after and while he was being tortured or he was rly hurt. for all the bad things he might of done, he had no control over his actions and was trying so hard. and for all of that, ilysm peeta ❤️

Josh is brilliant, you can see the pause, the hesitation, but the terror in his eyes that is screaming ‘run away as fast as you can’, you can watch the deliberation and decision flash by in a second on his face, he hardens as the tears well up and he makes the choice that if he was a dead man, he has to tell his love to flee before he can’t. He knows what they would do to him, but he decided that if Katniss was alive (since they told him she was dead) then his death wouldn’t have been in vain if she can live on.

I don't mean to go all English major on you, but this is technically a dystopian sci-fi romance rather than a fantasy story. In order for something to be considered fantasy, it needs to have magical elements. I guess you could classify the advanced technology as magical but since it is technology, the story is instead sci-fi. You statement still stands tho XD

They were the darkest, the least enjoyable, and the rawest. But the emotion... the acting... and the realness of war just hit different with these movies.
& yet fans see Catching Fire as the best book & film
