      The way I see it, Disney was kicking the Hornets nest just by choosing to continue making these movies. I think that no matter how the films turned out quality wise, people would still have problems with it.
      Simply put, Star Wars has become too big in terms of popularity and there's no way to satisfy every fan anymore. The first movies came out around the late 60s and early 70s and never stopped getting fans attached until now. We should've known that it wasn't built to last.

      Like cmon. Making rey a palpatine totally undermines her theme from 8. I didnt like 8 that much, alot coulda been better, but rey having no connection to anyone in the family trees is the whole concept of rey (a nobody). But I'm happy that she chose to be a skywalker.
      I like to think she was always searching, even when she discovered she was a palpatine, she still searched and found skywalker instead.
      I like 9 alot because it redeemed ben solo, poe, finn, and Leia's goodbye was strong (visuals too).
      But each SW movie has its highs and lows. I dont see a point in ranking them at all anymore.

    The prequels are looked at fondly today because compared to the Disney films, they actually had a f*cking STORY TO TELL. The fall of the Republic, Anakin's journey to the Dark Side, Palpatine's rise to power, and the Jedi's destruction all happening at the same time. There were so many plots unfolding , and that's why I love them despite their flaws. But these new movies? NOTHING happened. We just watched one huge-ass scavenger hunt lasting 3 films. We either had to find LUKE, or find the CODEMASTER, or find the WAYFINDER, or find the SITH DAGGER. What the films needed to do was find a f*cking PLOT.

So many sequences in this movie take place in 100% CGI,or very close to it, environments. Every Exegol sequence, the Death Star Ruins, on top of the Star Destroyers, Ajan Kloss (planet the resistance is on), etc. Every single location in this movie feels like it's mostly CGI, whereas in TLJ, pretty much every location was shot on a real, on-location set with some CGI touch-ups added.

      Barking Shark the action of killing the emperor was what redeemed Vader. The fact that he did it defending his son made it a more powerful moment, and facilitated his arc, but his uprising against Palpatine and setting the galaxy right by destroying him was the redemption. Plus with the context of the prequels, killing Palpatine was the moment that Anakin fulfilled the prophecy and his destiny as the chosen one, destroying the Sith and bringing balance to the force. Right after JJ finished 7, Disney wanted him to pump out 8 in less than 2 years and hes like "are u crazy?" so they got RJ to make his own 8 which derailed JJ's vision for the trilogy. I need to say one thing: zombie Palpatine (read: the talking corpse on the crane) was the creepiest thing I've seen on screen this year. Scarier than any horror monster this year. Even his way of speaking was changed from campy toad-like voice, to a veery deep demon-like voice. The whole Sith headquarters looked like a satanic cult trying to resurrect their undead demonic leader. JJ Abrams definitely told Ian McDiarmid to tone down the campiness of his performance. Just compare this Darth Sidious to the prequals' Darth Sidious.

      Oh so The Mandalorian doesn't rely on nostalgia? Don't kid yourself. It doesn't rely purely on nostalgia but it does use it. If it wasn't set in and marketed as Star Wars then you would be damn sure it would have fewer viewers. The Star Wars nostalgia itself draws in huge crowds. Everything after the first SW movie ever has relied on nostalgia more or less: "Oh theres some more content coming out for Star Wars, the movie I really liked years ago in 1977? Well that sounds exciting!" The Star Wars franchise is BUILT on nostalgia and uses it constantly.
      And when Chris said "I cant even predict what the star wars fanbase wants anymore" I'm 99% sure he meant "Does the star wars fanbase want similarity or something new?" Whenever they make something new and unique for Star Wars people complain immensely and same situation when they make something similar. Is there a middle line? Not to many "fans". That struggle between star wars similarity and new ideas is perfectly captured in his video: "The Force Awakens and Star Wars Formula - Analysed Review".
      There's a very strong reason why a meme about Star Wars "fans" goes: "Nobody hates Star Wars more than Star Wars fans", because the fanbase is so huge that it's impossible to please them all and those that aren't pleased always gets toxic about their displeasure.

    • @HAL-9OOO
      @HAL-9OOO 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@guy3480 I believe in every single word of what I wrote. Otherwise I wouldn't have written it.
      Do you know what nostalgia is? It's a great feeling you get whenever you're reminded of something you liked. This can be used both for bad and good. However nostalgia is as hated as it is nowadays because it is mostly used for bad intentions.
      Star Wars released in 1977 and some years after a sequel gets announced, it's called Empire Strikes Back. Why did people go see it? Because nostalgia made them fondly remember their experience with the first movie. It's because of nostalgia that people keep going to see these movies. Why did people wanna see Empire Strikes Back? Because of nostalgia and I'm not saying that in a negative manner. They sure as hell didn't go in because they knew it was gonna be good, they went in knowing the first movie was good and therefore there were a good chance that the next movie would be good as well which it was and still is. So as I've already said nostalgia/good memeries keeps people coming back.

      There is a FINE line between respecting the lore and full on worshipping it as something that can’t be touched. And I’m sorry but that line is blurry af and changes from person to person, and honestly, movie to movie. People are extremely subjective about what does or doesn’t break their lore. In large part because of how they grew up with it.
      Imo Yoda jumping around with a lightsaber breaks the lore. Luke going to exile doesn’t. But some people will tell you the exact opposite.

      they even had Georges Outlines, so the had a concept from the word go. They consciously chose to not use it. Why!??!??! Because Mystery Box!
      We can debate the quality of Lucas"s ideas for the ST but it was a plan, and they decided to go with no plan... i kinda feel like Po when asking Holdo for anything, ANYTHING! Any ray of hope, but instead given a lame meaningless platitude in return

    Chris, I like you when reviewing the movie, but you’re easy enough to generalize fans as toxic people. The minority of so-called "Stars Wars fans" are either politically motivated or hardcore fans that sends death threats to actors, and that is something the rest of us true fans do not condone in any way on threatening people. Please do consider this with the fact that some people do crazy things to make something their way only, and that others are wrong and ignorant.

    These movies were a cash grab. Plain and simple. While they definitely had potential with some of the characters, no one felt truly fleshed out. Plot points were rushed and I think they could've done so much more with Kylo Ren than they did. And Poe and Finn were little more than sidekicks. They should've really planned out how these movie were going to go before they were greenlit.

      I think the problem here was The Last Jedi. If it wasn't for that movie, we would have gotten a completely different one here.

    • @onedeadpixel10
      @onedeadpixel10 4 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      J.J. pretty clearly had a plan for the entire trilogy, considering it's been said that Rian Johnson didnt use the original story plans for episode 8. I dont think there was no roadmap so much as Disney just didnt care about the roadmap, and I will NEVER understand why they chose to give full creative control to a single person for the second film in a trilogy.

    • @onedeadpixel10
      @onedeadpixel10 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      This also makes sense in the first act of this film being essentially a rewrite of episode 8. It's what was originally planned, and they tried to squash it into this movie.

    • @TheSicHargow
      @TheSicHargow 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I am just amazed that in this day and age that there was no clear, specific road map before making this trilogy. I thought it was clear after The Matrix that you can't just throw two more movies after it and call it a trilogy. You have to have a cohesive story in place already. I can't blame this film for not meeting anyone's expectations at this point and I'll just watch it with a free mind and no cares.
