The best Betterpress video I’ve seen that actually showcases the versatility of these plates and the system that actually convinces me that I want this. Really nicely done! Off to watch part 2!
This was a very enlightening video and a I have just subscribed to your channel and save to my favourite's page. I also read all the comments because everyone has interesting ideas/questions. Thank you for taking the time to share and show the lovely cards
I have had my Better Press for just a few days. It gives beautiful results. I tried my other inks they were very good. But the BP inks were perfect. I decided not one person in my life would notice the difference… but I notice it. It is not a deep impression but reminds me of the beautiful wedding invitations and graduation announcements we used to get. So lovely. I am happy with it. For paper junkies who love all the details of this hobby will love it. People who just dabble in paper crafts might not get the hype. I am a paper junkie😊
I was one that thought... omg another tool/machine, special paper,, special inks, special plates. As I watched Yana and spellbinders rep, I could hear a non-stop, ching ching, ching ching! This video was very enlightening. The best video on its versatility. I'm still a bit on the fence, like many many other card makers. Thanks so much Dawn, you did yourself proud!
Dawn, you are one of the best artists on TH-cam. The fact that you take the time to teach card makers how to incorporate artist techniques into card making is just fantastic, and truly appreciated. I am looking forward to seeing your next video.
100 other videos or not, this was by far the best and most helpful review on this, the only one that has made me reconsider this because you’ve shown other uses that makes it a better value for the not inconsiderable cost. Thank you!
WOW! AmyR was right about your tutorial. Your tutorial was by far the best so far. The tips were great. Using different papers and inks. This will be a go back to tutorial. Thank you so much for the share!
I went through all three stages that you mentioned! At first I decided I didn’t want this new gadget in my craft room because I already am besotted with my Glimmer hot foil system. Then I found out that you could hot foil with the Better press plates so I caved and ordered it. Now I am at the must order all the accessories to go with my new toy…🤣 Your video was the most versatile one I have watched, so far, and you have widened my crafty horizons for using it in so many different ways. Thanks so much. 💞
Dawn, this was one of the best Better Press tutorials. I’ve tried using Crane’s Lettra 100% cotton card stock with excellent results. I just thought I’d mention another substrate to try. It watercolors well too. It is less expensive than Spellbinders card stock. I hope this is helpful.
Thank you for sharing this “find”!! I’m always looking for ways to save money. Right now (I’ve just purchased one) and I’m finding myself feeling very precious about the paper that is came with it because of the cost. I’m so excited there’s something less expensive that gives comparative results. I’d wondered about Canson watercolor paper. I think I’ll try it and some Beepaper which is 100% cotton. I’ll let you know what I find if you would like to know. Just respond if you do
I had watched this when you first posted it. I finally purchased the betterpress and came back to watch again because I remember you doing several techniques and you are fantastic instructor for those of us who are new to papercrafts… I wasn’t disappointed!!! This is the best video I shave seen regarding the betterpress!! I’d forgotten about the gold pigment ink on black watercolor paper which I have that exact brand. (because I have been dabbling in watercolors for quite some time)…I know I can learn more about watercolor from you since I’ve never had any inspiration. I’m definitely not good yet but I absolutely LOVE everything about watercolors❤ So excited to hear you love them too!! Thank you for sharing such a fantastic video teaching us so much about the betterpress. Sending blessings, Nancy Rolfe
This video was mind-blowing and super inspiring. Thank you for sharing all of your BetterPress experiments. I am just so thrilled to have stumbled upon it. I am a Subscriber now!
Thank you for such a great video! You taught me so many things about this tool. Best video on the Better Press yet! You are so talented and a fantastic teacher. 😊
I am in the BetterPress love camp and I've watched many, many videos but this one was eye opening! I appreciate your delving into the shims and how to experiment adapting their use based on substrate. As someone who doesn't care for watercolor and rarely uses colored pencils, the possibility of stretching the press plates to other papers and inks is most welcome. Good job taking the plates beyond their intended purpose. I love the letterpress look but versatility and options are never a bad thing! Thanks!
Thank you Dawn. I am loving my BP and found my Altenew gold pigment ink also gives beautiful results. Having fun playing 🎉Your finished cards are divine❤
HA! I LOVE THEM ALL! BEAUTIFUL WORK, Dawn!!! I haven't ordered mine yet, waiting to see what everyone else thinks. THANK YOU for showing us what you can do with the New Betterpress System! ;)
It is not a different letterpress as I understood you to say but when I preordered mine it came with more in the box as I got four ink colors and an HOBD plate. I watched Yana smakula and the inventor and I think he stated that the reason for the three shims was that Spellbinders is coming out with other things to use the press for and they would not need the three shims, you would use less. I think that is what he advised and he also said do not run it back through the machine as it would mess up the imprint from the press and I watched another person do just that and it was blurry. I was on the fence but did preorder it and am quite pleased that there are more things you can do besides just making an imprint in the paper. Thank you for your video!
This is the best video I’ve seen for the LetterPress…and I’ve watched so many!! Thank you so much for all the information. Your work is just beautiful!
Thank you so much for your video. You just answered 95% of the questions that I had about the letterpress and I watched a lot of videos about this subject.
I was heating up my hot foil machine to see if I could hot foil while I was watching your video...boom! You covered it! Thank you for a fabulous overview of this! Your videos are always so wonderful and informative
I just ordered the betterpress and now that I’ve seen your video, I’m super excited for it to arrive. Thank you so much for sharing this. I’m so happy I ran across your channel!!!
Thanks, Dawn! You answered the few lingering questions that I had. And that sentiment on top of the pressed image is next level! I can't wait to do that!!
Wow, I'm so happy I found your channel. I love how thorough your video is. I want to watercolor like you. So beautiful! Great tip with the colored pencils!
I'm definitely on the fence about this system, just because I already have so.much.stuff lol! But your video was quite impressive with the number of tests you put the system through. Thank you for that - by far the most thorough analysis of what it can do. I do love the fact that the plates work both for foiling and heat embossing, so I would be able to use my Copic markers, which is my primary coloring medium. Again, great video and thanks again!
Thank you so much! I get it. Like I said, even if you can’t decide on the actual BP platform itself, the plates are a great option if you already have the Glimmer. SOOO detailed!
I bought this and I know i am going to love it. I have made 4 cards and am finding that I am going to need practice inking the plates; achieving a even ink across. I have noticed that the really fine lines in the plates may not look like they have any ink on them, but I am learning to trust they do and I can see it once I run it through the die machine. Thanks for all these ideas!
Dawn, these cards are GORGEOUS!!! You might be bringing up the rear, but this has been one of the most informative and helpful BetterPress videos I’ve watched!! Thanks for all the techniques and tips; I can’t wait to try them out (I’m on the already purchased team). I have one question about the last Butterfly Garden card you showed. It looks like you watercolored it, but I was picking up on some glittery shimmer on the flowers. Did you use a Wink of Stella/Spectrum Noir/etc. glitter pen on them after watercoloring? Thanks again for all the stunning inspiration!! 🤩
You and the Betterpress, a match made in Heaven with your beyond fabulous watercolouring skills Dawn! Loved seeing your take on the machine and you've used it in some wonderful and different ways. Thank you! xoxo
I think I’ve already watched the hundreds of videos and wasn’t sold on this being a must-have system. . . Until through the wonders of You tube pushing your video to my feed. Loved your incredibly comprehensive video on the system, easy to listen to instructions and beautiful creations! Showing all the extra tricks the system has makes it a true workhorse - one trick pony step aside! New follower!
ImJUST NOW wanting both Glimmer and Better PRess. I know but my electric die machine didnt work with this so I had to buy Spellbinders die machine! THIS video , a year old or not, is really very well done and power packed with great info !
I have this system. I am happy that I did purchase it. I am a bit confused still about what other die plates may or may not work. I guess it is just a matter of testing. I get the impression the shims are the control for choice here. I have some lovely very detailed and thicker die cut designs, I will give it a try. I am not going to be over focused on what all I can't do but try to enjoy the actual different, lovely things I can do with this. machine. YOUR DEMONSTRATION WAS A GAME CHANGER. THANK YOU....I am off to my studio
Love your channel. Definitely the most thorough review of the letterpress. You have given me some new ideas to try which I appreciate. I’ve had mine for a couple of weeks now. I was disappointed in it honestly only because I had expectations of a deeper impression. Mine doesn’t seem to give as a deep of an impression as yours when run through without ink and with the shims and their cotton paper. Spellbinders was not helpful after 4 emails and I used all their “for best results”. I’ve spent the money on it now though and it does give amazingly beautiful detail and love the cotton paper. Agree with another commenter that I’ve found the ink to be very messy. Mine didn’t clean as well as yours with same cleaner lol! Just my experience. Thanks again for your thorough review. The turtle wins the race. I’m going to try the metallic pigment ink.
That is interesting. I do think it has something to do with the calibration of each individual die cutting machine as well. Mine is admittedly pretty tight. Have you tried adding additional shims? Maybe cut a piece of printer paper down and add to your shins underneath. If it feels too tight, don’t force it though. As for the ink, cleaning waterproof ink can take a minute to get use to since we are so accustomed to water soluble inks. But, it’s a must for watercolor. I don’t bother with a thorough clean until I’m done with my crafty session or switching colors, so it doesn’t become a constant chore.
Thanks very much for your input. I had tried cardstock shims and found them to be too much -smeared the ink etc. I tried your suggestion of printer paper shims and the thinner shims is helping. I have had to add 3 to get any kind of impression and it is uneven so I think that you are right it is my machine. I don’t have another die cut machine that is compatible to compare against so will think about getting a different one. If I can get a decent impression I think I would be much happier with the Betterpress. Right now it is basically an expensive stamp. Of course you are right about the ink. I hadn’t really thought that through completely. I just keep hearing everyone say oh “it’s easy to clean up” and found that was not my experience. I think those comments are slightly misleading as of course it is the ink so it will be different. Definitely appreciate your help in trouble shooting.
Question: I love the BP and so appreciate your comprehensive video. I have followed all of the directions but the imprint from the plate into the watercolor paper is barely there; the look of letterpress is not present. I have all of the shims in place beneath the magnetic plate. I am using the Spellbinders Plat 6 and the paper for the BP. Any suggestions would be welcome. tia
Hmmm…Maybe your machine pressure is on the looser side. Personally, I would add more shims and try that. I would start with 1 piece of copy paper and continue to add until I got the right pressure. Just make sure that you are not increasing so much that it is difficult to crank through. Don’t force it. If that didn’t work, I would contact Spellbinder’s customer service and walk them through my issue.
I loved what you did and how you experimented to give us other options using the BetterPress. I bought one and then was wondering if it was one of those "one and done" machines. You changed my mind and I thank you so much for that in showing all the possibilities. Great video.
Oh I hope you let us know if you try the embossing folder idea with the sentiment letterpressed over top!! Thanks for this video, of all that I've seen, yours is the most thorough and you've definitely sold me on it. I didn't even realize we could use watercolor paper let alone different inks! You rock Dawn :) You rebel you LOL
Love your video. And a thanks for Amy R. for reccomended your videos. Love how you try all kind of things.....paper etc. I do have one question. Can you use with Gemini Jr. machine? Thanks again to both you and Amy.
Amy is the best, so glad you found me on her recommendation! Spellbinders has an FAQ on their website dedicated to BetterPress. I am 99% sure that the Gemini Jr. is listed as “not” compatible.
Dawn you are hands down my favorite card making teacher you explain complex techniques in a way anyone can understand. I will definitely be buying the plates to hot foil.
this is by far the best and most informative video I've seen for the BetterPress, would I like to get one..sure. But not for that price. You have given me a lot of ideas, I will be getting the plates. Thank you
Thank you so much for sharing this. I purchased the Betterpress machine some time ago but have yet to use it. I certainly will now that I have seen your video.
Thank you so much for the really informative video! So good to know that the Honeybee gold ink worked with the plates! Also, the tip about running the plate through without ink, using colored pencils to add color and then running the plate through with the Betterpress ink. I am finding I need to do this even with my watercolors. (I'm hoping to find a liquid watercolor that doesn't make the outlines created by the Betterpress ink less crisp after painting over them.) I tend to be timid experimenting with new products so thanks for sharing your discoveries! Your videos are very appreciated!
Thanks a lot Dawn for this video, I appreciate you giving the information of the many possibilities and options available for the Better Press. I have it and still haven't used it, the tip of removing the shims is fantastic. Looking forward to trying it out with more confidence. Hugs❤
I have watched many of the BP videos, and this one is excellent, the most informative one yet. I pre-ordered the BetterPress with several of the plates, and have had an opportunity to use it for a couple weeks. I am not impressed with their ink. I’ve had better results with other inks, and I really appreciate your results with other inks. Looking forward to future videos with this product.
Thank-you for this very detailed explanation of this better press system. I think I'd love it too. I think I will though put off buying this because I need to use my glimmer hot foil system before I invest in another system and buy all the plates to go with that.
Outstanding! What a great video and you do such a great job describing. You've done an awesome job and sold me on other advantages of owning a BetterPress!
That was me, not going to purchase it. After an outstanding presentation by the owner of Stampeddler Plus in Northville, Michigan, guess what came home with me. Love everything about this process ❤️
I have it and agree, right away amazing results. Love how you showed us so many options and went slow and many views of your cards so we could see the beautiful results. I am definitely going to try some of what you did. Thanks for the inspiration ❤
This was fantastic. I did buy my betterpress however I've not been able to use it yet. I did try it one time but I did screw everything up, so I did really enjoy your presentation.
I just found your u-tube on the better press and was impressed with your knowledge and the fast way you did all of it. Usually people go so slowly and I keep waiting for more, you loved your way. I didn't think I wanted a better press but may change my mind after seeing your version. thanks for making me rethink my idea. Edna Burgess
Great video with loads of inspiration, I'm impatiently waiting for mine to be delivered. 😁 Do you know if the Betterpress ink pads are the same size as Ranger Archival mini ink pads? If they are I think I'll store them in a Tim Holtz tin. 😊
You convinced me to get one...I was on the fence because I did not want to get another machine. Those cards were amazing Thank you...I just subscribed to your channel.
Wow! You have sure done an out right wonderful video for this system. I do believe I am sold on it. Thanks for being such a forthright lovely demonstrator. All your creations were fabulous. I am a new subbie, will watch for more! 😊
Thank you for such a detail look at this system… I’m on the fence, because of the price and wonder if I would use enough to justify; also, I haven’t seen anyone address how expensive the ‘specialty’ papers are after you run out. The cards you made were absolutely gorgeous!!
Thank you so much! Yes, the amount of use you will get out of it is something to consider when deciding if it is for you. As for the paper - the paper quality is top notch 100% Italian watercolor paper, not wood pulp paper, which accounts for it’s cost. I compared it to other fine art watercolor papers (Arches, Legion, etc) and it is comparable. (25) 8.5 x 11” sheets, cut into quarters is 100 card fronts. This comes out to 40 cents a card. But, I am a watercolorist and good quality watercolor paper is a must for me. The good news is, you are not beholden to this paper once you run out of what comes with the system. You can definitely use something less expensive. 😉
I preordered mine with Spellbinders bundle and some of the plates, but I have not tried it yet. I also ordered all 8 inks and the reinkers from Simon Says. I am watching several videos to unbox it and start using it for my Christmas cards. I think that it’s really a good buy. I have gotten a few tips and tricks from your tutorial, thank you for sharing.
I really appreciate your video. Although I do not plan to buy the system yet (because I still have lots of stuff I purchased that I haven't played with), you gave many possibilities how this system can be integrated with our existing tools and media. Thank you so much!
I’m in the same boat! I have so many tools I haven’t even used yet, so I will wait on the BetterPress for now-but I really appreciate the informative and thorough test run you gave the product. I’m already a subscriber, but I wasn’t seeing your videos in my feed until this one came up! Hopefully the algorithm will bring more of your content my way! ☺️
You may not have created the first video on BetterPress, but it's by far the best one I've seen.
Absolutely agree!
Awe, thanks so much! 😊
I’m watching this video for the third time. Absolutely the best, most informative video on the BetterPress, hands down.
I wholeheartedly agree with this comment too! Well done, Dawn and thanks for some much informative information!
Agreed
Although this video is a year old, I love it. Thank you, I am new to betterpress
The best Betterpress video I’ve seen that actually showcases the versatility of these plates and the system that actually convinces me that I want this. Really nicely done! Off to watch part 2!
So glad you liked it! 🥰
This was a very enlightening video and a I have just subscribed to your channel and save to my favourite's page. I also read all the comments because everyone has interesting ideas/questions. Thank you for taking the time to share and show the lovely cards

I’m hoping they release a script alphabet set. This could create beautiful monograms.
100 other videos or not, this was by far the best and most helpful review on this, the only one that has made me reconsider this because you’ve shown other uses that makes it a better value for the not inconsiderable cost. Thank you!
Great tips and cards are gorgeous, I love anything you used watercoloring on the most
Certainly the best video I’ve seen on the betterpress, thank you 😊
WOW! AmyR was right about your tutorial. Your tutorial was by far the best so far. The tips were great. Using different papers and inks. This will be a go back to tutorial. Thank you so much for the share!
Your BetterPress video is the best I’ve seen! Thanks so much for your tenacity!!!

I totally get that Wendy! I’ve never been an early adopter either. But after using the BP, I would have kicked myself for being stubborn. 😂
Love this fabulous
Dawn, this was one of the best Better Press tutorials. I’ve tried using Crane’s Lettra 100% cotton card stock with excellent results. I just thought I’d mention another substrate to try. It watercolors well too. It is less expensive than Spellbinders card stock. I hope this is helpful.
Thanks for the tip!
Thank you for sharing this “find”!! I’m always looking for ways to save money.

😮 Thank you for all the information. I have the system and was totally impressed. You are so helpful with your trials.
Thank you so much for your video. You just answered 95% of the questions that I had about the letterpress and I watched a lot of videos about this subject.
Sold with the gold!!!! Beautiful! Thank you for showing great options!
Thank you for this detailed video. Loved seeing the different techniques with this system.
Another YT crafter had used Versafine Clair ink. It’s beautiful and flawless.
I don’t have them, but given what I’ve seen of their formulation, I bet they would work well!
You are definitely the best artist instructor on explaining how to use the letter press! Thank you!
I was heating up my hot foil machine to see if I could hot foil while I was watching your video...boom! You covered it! Thank you for a fabulous overview of this! Your videos are always so wonderful and informative
Such beautiful cards, Dawn. My Betterpress system arrives tomorrow. I can't wait to try some of these techniques.
Have fun!
Fantastic video. Thanks so much for your honesty! You are so truthful and real!! LOV your video
You do beautiful work!! I want to be your student!! 😊
I'm in awe and I've been a stamper forever. This makes me want to purchase the betterpress!!!!

I use the Big Shot Express to run the plates through and have found that it works better if you remove one of the shims.
Great tip!
I wasn’t even going to consider buying the Better Press system but you’ve changed my mind. Thank you so much for your video, I’ve bookmarked it! 😊
I love all the techniques you tried out. I wouldn’t have even thought about some of them. All the cards are just gorgeous.
Such beatuiful cards. I enjoyed watching you use the Betterpress.
Best video about the Betterpress I’ve seen, thanks!
Excellent tips. Thank you---ready to roll my very first project!
Wow very impressive... your watercolors are amazing!!!!! 😊
Best tutorial on this BPress… I’ve been on the fence. Very helpful and inspiration
You helped me make up my mind & I ordered mine 😊. Thank you❤. Im New subscriber 👍
Had already liked the system but with this demonstration of multiple uses I'm fully sold!
This is THE best video I have seen so far for the letterpress. You have opened up the use for it exponentially. Thank you!
Thank you
Your cards are Ahhh-Mazing! Thx for doing the experimentation for us!
Oh my gosh, this video is the best one out there for the BetterPress system! I just got my machine and it opens up so many possibilities!!!
Thanks for such an informative video; definitely the most in-depth one I've seen.
Thank you so much for sharing this. I purchased the Betterpress machine some time ago but have yet to use it. I certainly will now that I have seen your video.
So much fun. Thanks for the great Card Clues. Merry Christmas!
I didn't think I needed this, now maybe I do. Thank you for all the wonderful tips. 😊
Thank you so much for creating this video. I have been on the “fence” about getting the BetterPress. I think I got my go ahead 😊
Thanks a lot Dawn for this video, I appreciate you giving the information of the many possibilities and options available for the Better Press. I have it and still haven't used it, the tip of removing the shims is fantastic. Looking forward to trying it out with more confidence. Hugs❤
I just got the Better Press so I really appreciate all of your ideas and inspiration. Thank you.
Excellent video! So comprehensive.... Thank you
Fabulous video. Thank you so much I have learned a lot. I just need time now to play with my new toys. xx
Very informative. Thanks so much. I’ll probably watch this many times.
I have just recently found you and love what you do. Still experimenting with my better press, but really like the way it presses the design.
Thank-you for this very detailed explanation of this better press system. I think I'd love it too. I think I will though put off buying this because I need to use my glimmer hot foil system before I invest in another system and buy all the plates to go with that.
Understandable. We can’t just collect, got to USE those supplies! 😉
Such beautiful cards and inspiration with techniques. Love your watercolors with the betterpress. Loving the betterpress so far!
This has been a very informative video! Thank you for showing all the different ways you can use this tool.,
Impressive tutorial thank you for sharing this with us
This was fantastic. I did buy my betterpress however I've not been able to use it yet. I did try it one time but I did screw everything up, so I did really enjoy your presentation.
Thank you, I have watched other betterpress videos, this one is the best in my opinion!
I'm so glad you found it helpful!
Your cards are AMAZING. I love watching your video's! You are the BEST! ❤
Thank you so much! 💕
I just found your u-tube on the better press and was impressed with your knowledge and the fast way you did all of it. Usually people go so slowly and I keep waiting for more, you loved your way. I didn't think I wanted a better press but may change my mind after seeing your version. thanks for making me rethink my idea.

Thank you for an amazing tutorial. I am so glad I found your video and am now a subscriber! Love, love, love!!!!
Awesome demonstration. Gorgeous cards. Love the Betterpress
Great video with loads of inspiration, I'm impatiently waiting for mine to be delivered. 😁
Do you know if the Betterpress ink pads are the same size as Ranger Archival mini ink pads?
Glad it was helpful!
Thank you for so many ideas to use with the BetterPress. So helpful! ❤
