I really appreciate your taking the time to thoroughly demo the letterpress system. It’s good to know the plates can be used with the glimmer system and that other inks can be used with the letter press.
I got the Betterpress for Christmas so I'm watching all of your BetterPress videos now. Thanks for the inspiration and the high quality videos! I love how you explain things. Thank you!
That tip about re-inking is gold - I had that exact problem with the "Note from Me" plate yesterday and wish I'd remembered this nugget. Otherwise, as you said, this system is pretty much fool proof. I appreciate all the tips and inspiration you provide - thank you!
Great demonstration of alternative uses of the BetterPress. Looking forward to more projects as Spellbinders evolves more products for the use of the BetterPress.
My Betterpress and glimmer hot foil machine arrive tomorrow :) I can’t wait to starting using these machines! I love how well they work together to get more use out of our supplies!
You had me at "no learning curve." I see Spellbinders has sold out of the bundle already, but snagged one from another store today! Thanks for the great overview.
This is the only product I rushed to buy after watching your intro video and oh myyyyy. Money well spent! Now because of it I’m eyeing the foiling system. ❤❤❤
I watched your first video and thought this was not something I would like to use but in watching this video and the one Yana Smacula did I became hooked!! Mine is on the way!!! Can not wait to use this machine!! Thank you!!!!
I love that plates can be used with the foiling machine, great value. I am going to try this using no ink and using letter press images as a subtle background
UPDATES: -- Many asked how deep this impression is. it is subtle, but pretty! when spellbinders comes out with thicker cotton paper, the impression will be deeper. you can get a deep impression with the faux letterpress video i link to at the end to at the end of this one, but the detail isn't as great. hope that helps! -- You can use other cardstocks. FOR SURE. but you get a slightly better impression with the cotton paper. i will demo the system with other cardstock in the future. -- You can use other inks with this! I tried with several dye inks (in this video and my last) and you can see it works GREAT. :)
Great ideas Jennifer. Just watched Stacey at Scrapbooking Made Simple and she said you would have a video too and to say hi from her. The more classes the better with a new system.
Another great tutorial on a new crafting system. Looks like fun and they make some great cards. I am not going to get into another system, lol, I have so much money in my other ones. But this would be an awesome new way to make some great cards.
I haven’t ordered new tools for a long time because I have such a small crafting space. But I couldn’t pass this up! Thanks for hearing all the creative ideas to use it with some of the products I already have. Can’t wait to get this and play. Thanks, Jennifer 😊
I swore I would not get another type of crafting tool, but this looks so tempting…of course, I also said I was not going to do the Glimmer either & I have one. I think you got me on the sentiments….once you see either Glimmer or Letterpress sentiments, it makes it hard to go back to stamped ones😮
I’m very excited to get my new toy but I’m definitely not good at coloring in an image so I hope there is a way to use other color inks to do that. Love your videos!
Hi Jennifer - my daughter and I are big fans of yours, from New Westminster, British Columbia. Thanks for your great videos on the Betterpress, we just picked ours up today. We have a question for you: Clipper Street, our local store (yeah Clipper Street, we love you!) has already sold out of the plate cleaner. Is there anything else we can use to clean our plates until our order arrives? Many thanks and happy crafting 😁
Thank you for the great video, I hesitated purchasing but couldn't miss out so now just waiting for the arrival. Wondering what plates and inks to get first. Thanks again Jennifer 🌻🐝
I love mine!!! I got it early and it is so fun and easy! Thanks for sharing! I am so excited because I haven't bought anything new in a long long time!!!
This is exciting! I’m just curious as to your favorite manual die cutting machine. I’m wanting to invest in a bigger machine but want the absolute best for my money. I don’t mind spending a little more to get the very best. I noticed you use several machines.
If you do foiling with the better press die first, and then do the better press over the same image (without any ink), would it give an indented foiled result?
Great informative video! Can’t wait to get my Betterpress and play! Wondering if you could tape a piece of vellum over the chase & underneath the die to keep the chase clean from inking?
Thanks for another great video, Jennifer! I couldn't sleep last night and was checking emails about 3 a.m. and saw one from Spellbinders that the BetterPress was back in stock so I ordered it. Wish I would have waited & linked through here, but I will purchase some additional items via your links so you get some credit. Thanks again!
Jennifer, have you tried using white ink on dark cardstock? That would be awesome since I have trouble stamping or heat embossing white on black, but I love the look.
Great video!! I am with you when it comes to coloring. I think you did a great job! I have the BetterPress on order. Can't wait to get it. I also understand that Spellbinder will have a subscription of the month for the BetterPress dies.
I think a big plus for the Betterpress is that you can use the press plates for foiling. It’s like a two for one. I’m very tempted to get it but would still like to see more examples and cards from everyone…. But very tempted.
I have the We R Memory Keepers Letterpress from like 7-8 years ago. Their plates were (not sold anymore) plastic. Do you think I could use the Spellbinders plates?
It’s great that you did this, but I think that if Spellbinders could combine the better press with the glimmer, it would be a win, but unfortunately it is not a tool I will invest in. My space is too small!
Nice one. I cant wait till i can buy the better press here in the netherlands. I was wondering, can i use distress inks or oxides too? I should i keep it with the better press inks & gina k inks? Also can i use my switch machine? I only got that one and no manual one😅
Hi! Do you know if Spellbinder will come with a shim that allows you to use the Hotfoil dies for Better Press? Because in that case Better Press becomes much more interesting for me to buy.
@@jennifermcguireink Thank you very much for your reply. And thank you for all the good videos you've made that have given me both inspiration and the knowledge needed to dare to try new things. You are amazing!
It will not work with the Gemini Junior but if you scroll down at this link you can see the compatibility list: spellbinderspaperarts.com/pages/betterpress
I got my better press and used it today. On my first 3 tries, the ink that got on the chase transferred to my paper…..and I thought it was a little difficult to roll through my platinum machine. I took out 1 of the shims and had perfect results. Has this happened for anyone else?
@@jennifermcguireink Why not? What about regular die? Can you use BetterPress plates with embossing mats like we use dies to emboss? Does the BetterPress really emboss better than a die with the embossing mats? Haven’t seen anyone make this comparison yet. I don’t want to have to spend $100 to find out, though I am tempted.
The foil plates' thickness may hurt the betterpress. spellbinders mentioned that, and i dont want to test it and break my tool. As for a comparison, i will share in a future video, but it is hare to show in video. i think you can get deeper impressions with a die and a mat, but lose detail and sometimes get rough paper. results not always great. but with this, it always looks good. and you can use betterpress plates to make imression with a mat.
I have letterpressed with my go press foil with letterpress papers and hot foil plates, shim for years. Can use some foam pads mettallic inks with it as well.
You can use other papers with better press, but it won’t give as much of an impression. A soft paper like cotton paper is best. You can use watercolor paper, likely.
Now if someone would just come along and offer custom etched wafer dies for this system, the way Boxcar press does photopolymer plates for letterpress at a reasonable price for designers, LOL! 💕💕💕
For those of you in the business this is great and your video is great . However for a simple card maker it's just another crazy cost that is unnecessary to make great cards.
I’m so excited. Can’t wait. Stalking the mailman
You never cease to amaze me! You TUTORIALS are THE. BEST. EVER. ANYWHERE. thank you for continuing to do this for us
I really appreciate your taking the time to thoroughly demo the letterpress system. It’s good to know the plates can be used with the glimmer system and that other inks can be used with the letter press.

Jennifer, give vellum a try through the Betterpress. Use white pigment ink on the plate. Then emboss with clear powder.
Very nice blending even though you used water based markers! You consistently create gorgeous cards. I really enjoy your videos.

You’re right, the enclosed card says subscriptions for BetterPress and wax seals will start in July, I think!
I agree, I think the betterpress plates foil beautifully. I dont even
Own a Betterpress (yet)
Okay, you are amazing and now I will try to foil, too!
I noticed Spellbinders is selling replacement clear plates and magnetic pads. Do you think we will need those any time soon?

Well now I must get some Altenew Fresh Dye Inks since they work with the BetterPress plates!
This was an awesome video!! So helpful!!!!
I have the We R Memory Keepers Letterpress from like 7-8 years ago. Their plates were (not sold anymore) plastic. Do you think I could use the Spellbinders plates?

It will not work with the Gemini Junior but if you scroll down at this link you can see the compatibility list: spellbinderspaperarts.com/pages/betterpress
Mine came today. Woo hoo!
I told myself I don't need to spend money on this but you are making it really hard! 💸
Thanks for the video. Lots of information.
Your nails always look gorgeous! Do you use anything special on them?
The watercoloring, since it is cotton paper it doesn't have a problem with the water?
I'm not an expert watercolorer but it worked for me.
Actually, it should work great for watercoloring! The finest quality watercolor paper is 100% cotton.
Thank you for showing how this works
Can you use any die to letterpress?
I have a question. Can you use versamark and heat emboss ?
I haven't tried it.
Is there any danger of warping the clear plate with too much use?
I can't say because I haven't had it long but I doubt it. It's not enough pressure.
You may have done this before, but could you discuss advantages to Platinum 6, how does it compare with other leading die cutting machines.🤓
Here are some videos on my blog that might be helpful: www.jennifermcguireink.com/?s=die+cutting+machine
I got my better press and used it today. On my first 3 tries, the ink that got on the chase transferred to my paper…..and I thought it was a little difficult to roll through my platinum machine. I took out 1 of the shims and had perfect results. Has this happened for anyone else?
It hasn't happened to me. If no one has any suggestions contact Spellbinders customer service.

Curious if you have tried Neenah solar white paper?
You can use other papers with better press, but it won’t give as much of an impression. A soft paper like cotton paper is best. You can use watercolor paper, likely.

I was able to snag the bundle as soon as it came back in stock. I just wish Spellbinders' shipping wasn't SOOOO SLOOOOOW! 😂

How is this different than inking your die plates and pressing them into your paper? Am I missing something?
