Replacing the Cigarette Lighter with a USB port in an MY99 WRX

In this episode we replace the factory Ciggy lighter with a permanent 2.1Amp USB socket in a GC8 Subaru WRX.
Also applicable to other models with this dash - Impreza, Forester, ETC...

About time to see a PROPER installation of one of these.As a note of caution I would test the USB functions correctly BEFORE I super glued it and put all the trim back.

Have you tried updating the usb to a 2 port 3.0 usb ?

You can get a USB adapter just plug straight in no need for wiring six bucks eBay

It would have been easier to fit a flush fit cigar lighter usb plug, just push it in.
At least go with a double usb.

You do realize you DON'T need the original lighter housing and that th new nut provided screws all the way down to hold the adapter in place?

I guess by keeping the original housing he can keep the illumination ring and put the whole assembly in the housing for a secure snug fit?
