uPVC Mechanism Gearbox Replaced | New Euro Cylinder | New Handles - Locksmith

- A faulty gearbox meant this customer was unable to lock his door. The gearbox had failed meaning the cams were not engaging.
They Euro cylinder was also replaced as the key would no longer insert into the key way from the outside! And had become stiff to use! So stiff in fact had had to snap the cylinder to remove it.
The customer also opted to have new handles fitted too due to the old ones looking tired and worn and the springs were broken.

What is the best lubricant for the sliding rail and the catches? I want to completely clean it and re lube. It has been sprayed with WD40 and has completely gummed up.
As I'm watching today 9 Jan 22, your up to 322 Subs. Sounds like you Channel is taking off. That's an interesting door. Looks to be a type of storm door, not a lot of meat for that latch to catch. I have never seen something like this before where the mechanism is the whole length the door. Very Interesting.
Thanks mate. I’ve been blown away by the response of the channel to be honest 😊
This type of uPVC door is very very common over here in the UK. It’s called a Multi Point Locking System and can have anything from 3 - 8 locking point up the length of the door 😊 Great for security but not so good for locksmiths when they fail 😂
Thanks again for watching 🙏🏼
@@brighton_locksmith I have a storm door on my back door where the handles broke (cheap pot metal). The replacement is not readily available and almost as much as the door. So JB Weld and a hock latch until I get a new door. It's not used much in Winter anyway.
Top vid new sub scriber just getting Into lock smith myself every little helps
Thanks mate.
If watching any of my videos helps in anyway I’m happy 😊
Thanks for watching 🙏🏼
Excellent job, kind regards to you, Mark from Billericay 😀😀👍👍🇬🇧🇬🇧
Would it be possible to remove a 3-point multi-locking system that the center latching broke from a door and just install a standard door lock even though the grooves will remain in the door or it's not recommended. Over here I would have to buy the whole lower mechanism that can be a couple hundred dollars and I cannot just replace the lock set?
A helpful video. After seeing a few gearboxes they are often fragile & weak inside. No wonder they often break. The snapped cylinder is also common, very vulnerable.
Surprising what little things you learn il fish the cam out with a bent hook usually but using the magnet looks so much easier nice idea 👍
Cheers Benjamin. I’ve only ever used a magnet to be honest! I’m sure a bent hook works just as good through 😊
Thanks for watching bud 🙏🏼
I had a try today it does slightly speed up the job thanks for the tip 👍
Just like Anderson doors here in the US. I like the door adjustment, good work.
Thanks mate. I love this type of job 👍🏼
Thank you for taking the time to make this video, got me out of the dung.
I’ve done lots of gearboxes now and like you took the whole unit out to begin with but I’ve found if you leave the bottom screw in and remove the mech from the top you can do the mech in situ without it coming completely out the door it saves you scrating about on the floor certainly works for me
Nice tip, cheers mate 👍🏼
Ooh I'll try this . Everyday is still a school day 45 and love little tips like this
🤜🤛 🫡
Hi when I open my door all the latches go into the locked position without lifting the handle is that a sign of a worn gearbox
Yes almost definitely you will need a new gearbox.
Contact your local independent locksmith to carry this work out for you as it can be a tricky job if you don’t k ow what you are doing.
Love jobs like this 👌
Wondering why you broke the lock, when it was the gearbox unit that was faulty?
As I said in the video. The customer had said the cylinder had been temperamental and had been causing him a problem for a while so we decided to change it. I wasn’t able to get the cam to move to remove it hence snapping it out.
Thanks for watching
@@brighton_locksmith Thanks Andy
Hi there, can you please make a video on how to pick Euro Cylinder locks using a Lishi Tool? I dont know which tool to purchase for Euro Cylinder locks.
Thank you very much :)!
Excellent job at least you didn't have too adjusted the door by much I had too do a 35mm Gu gearbox on a front door today because of the split spindle system no longer available had too put in a new style Gu box had too do a bit of adjustment luckily I had one in my dads shop
Nice job mate. One of my favourite jobs is a uPVC door job 😁
Hey andy, thanks for posting. Where would I be able to purchase the multipoint replacement locks like you have.
You can buy these from all locksmith suppliers but you will need an account and proof you are a locksmith. Suppliers will only supply to the trade.
Thanks for watching 🙏🏼
@@brighton_locksmith Thanks, actually I am a licensed locksmith but here in the U.S. our security and products are not comparable to what you have. Wish they had locks4vans here, sure my customers would love them. The issue is that if duplicate keys would be needed, it may be complicated. Love what you are doing. I subscribed and thanks.
You must be the best prepared locksmith in the world ! If only you were available in the south of France!😊
Haha thanks Anne. I try to be as prepared as I can for any situation 😁
A busman’s holiday to the south of France could work 😁
I just paid £160 to have this done !!
That’s a decent price.
Where abouts do you live if you don’t mind me asking?
Very informative thanks. What if the old faulty cylinder was a anti snap how would you have removed it in order to get the mech out?
Thanks Dean.
If I wasn’t able to of snapped it I would of got the die grinder out buddy 👍🏼
Thanks for watching 😊
Couldn’t have done it better
