    I just watched yours while I was stuck inside my house waiting for a locksmith to show up. I tried everything - then got a screw driver and pushed it through the gap there was at the bottom and jiggled it around and that just unstuck the locking mechanism that had lodged in the wrong place - thansk so much for the inspo!

    Great job on getting it open, troubleshooting it and getting it repaired. I just had a customer with similar issue yesterday and I had to use a cordless grinder with cutoff wheel to cut the hinges. I figured out what was broken (drive pins in the lockset gearbox), but finding an exact match and new hinges may be more expensive than just welding what’s broke and cut and putting back together. I’ll put up a vid when the jobs done here in a few days. There’s not enough vids out there with actual repairs like these. Most people just swap them out. Not always easy to do when you can’t find parts and some of these are really expensive. Thanks for sharing!

      Thanks for the positive comments they are appreciated, many seem think they know better easier ways in my other comments for this video but something will likely end up being damaged in this unfortunate door stuck scenario. Luckily I straightened the bent plate out in a vice but I appreciate each job will likely be different. Feel free to post a link in the comments to your video as it may help someone out.

    The top and bottom of mine were just a few mm shy from fully opening. My fix, or bodge job i will call it was to pull Mr angle grinder out slip a disc in the door and chop off the ends. Its different to this, only single lobes, not doubles like this, a winkhaus mechanism, all in one. The locks are held on the rail with like rivets, not screws so there would be no way to take it apart and reset it like in this vid. I will need a whole new system, which is around £100. But for now, ive only lost a couple of mm off the ends, the door still locks securely and opens cleanly. Job done. 😁

    • @stevefairfax2759
      @stevefairfax2759 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      You can change the centre case on a Winkhaus you will just need to call a locksmith, but no point changing centre case if you have angle grinded the hooks. A locksmith would have openned your door with out any damage and changed the centre case.

    Would the bottom catch not retract if you pinch them together simultaneously from top and bottom with 2 scrapper/chisels? If the door was set to unlock, there should be enough room between the push/pull rod and the catch mechanism to allow the catches to retract. Plus levering a chisel against a well placed door spreader can work well.

    • @TheRepairer
      @TheRepairer  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      it just wouldn’t budge at all until I had removed it from the door then I was able to operate it by hand easily from the side that is concealed that connects to the mechanism but I couldn’t override the catch at all from the outside. I think it must have been designed this way.

    I had an issue with a bolt coming loose and jamming the door but I didn't want to take my door off the hinges, indeed to do so was quite difficult. In the end I worked out that if I used two dinner knives with a slightly seated edge, one above the bolt and one below, I was able to screw the bolt back in quite easily and then the door opened. I then finished the bolt off with a screwdriver

      I don't think they will show you a video of this as it's a way to enter a home without a key...
      Take off your handles.. its 2 screws inside the home..
      Then get a pair of mole grips an grip the lock that's sticking out of the door now your handles are off.. then snap the lock..
      Then inside the aperture there will be the central lock pin that activates the lock.. take this out..
      Then get a screw driver.. an flick the mechanism on the left hand side of the internal mechanism of the door..
      And you door will open.. now your looking at the open door from the side.. near to where your latch is you'll feel a screw which is loose.. this screw is the one that holds your lock in place..
      Take this out.. replace your lock put in the screw .. put your handles back on .. test your lock with the door open..if it all works as it should...
      JOB DONE.. 5 mins..

    • @TheRepairer
      @TheRepairer  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I didn’t have an angle grinder with me at the time, I bent the lower bolt fixing and then straightened it in a vice for free then refitted it this was totally unwanted collateral damage but easily repaired at zero cost. I can’t see how destroying the locking mechanism with an angle grinder and then having to source and fit a replacement would have made the job any easier than the repair I achieved. There again I could have welded it back together for nothing but the heat would have destroyed the chromium finish on the bolt / latch . It’s just dilemma’s galore with this one, thanks for your input.

    • @Glenn7719
      @Glenn7719 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Exactly what i did, got the angle grinder in there and cut the end off, it was only a few mm as most of the lock had retracted. Its a winkhaus cobra all in one mechanism, the locks are riveted to the rail, so you cant just replace the individual lock part, the whole system needs replacing, which is around £100. Lucky that ive only lost a few mm from the ends, door locks fully and opens ok now, so for now i will leave it as it is.

      You are more than likely Steve Fairfax of Fairfax locksmiths, I can see why you would want this type of business! I’m not running a call a locksmith channel it’s a diy repair channel! I think the fact that I succeeded and this video is publicly available is inconvenient to some!
