I had the same problem on my Honda Accord but all I did was checked the cap for any signs of damage the cap was fine afterwards I unplugged the valve for a few seconds then plug it back in and it reset itself (Thanks for the video)
Jerod Culbreth I have done that on mine but after driving a few weeks, light came back on again. I just wanted a more permanent fox, that is why I had to replace it.
How important is it to fix this problem, I'm planning a trip this weekend and Don't have time this fix it at the moment, I have to wait till I come back in a day or two. Is it safe to drive around with this little issue.
Josue DeAmerica it is safe to drive. It is not like anything is gonna blow up on you. You will not get stuck on the road because of it also. It causes long term problems on your fuel line. You will be fine. Go to your trip and fix it when you get back!
The eventual problem you will face, is that when it is time to have your car pass 'smog' tests, this WILL need to be repaired, or you will not pass the smog test. But otherwise, a minute leak of gas fumes into the atmosphere is safe, in the terms that no harm should come to your car.
Hmmm... I don't think you can do a smoke test on the 2010 - 2012 Accords because I think Honda removed the test valve to run the smoke through the system. My 2010 Accord coupe check engine light and fuel cap light comes on and I'm going to try the purge valve also to see if it fixes the problem, thanks for the video.
multimedia sean My mechanic successfully done a smoke test on my 2010 Honda Accord EX-L 4 cyl. I was there and have seen the smoke proving the problem with the purge valve. Original part and replacement cost me very little. Service was a bit pricey so I chose to get it done somewhere else.
Really! Wow, because we looked for the valve and could not find it on my car. It's usually a valve with a green or blue cap and we couldn't find it. I guess I'm going to have to do some more research to find it because I'm having the same exact issue that your video reveals. multimedia sean purge valve is at the front under the hood towards the top of the engine. Easy to get to with a linger screw driver. Two clamps hold the hose. He took the valve out and hooked up the smoke machine. It worked and we knew it was the purge valve.
If that came out eassy and no need to buy nothing just remove the battery n and p wait 5 m and pit it back and start note dont forget to remove also the cap fuel
does the check engine light needs to come on too for it to be the purge valve? cus my 2011 accord keeps showind the check fuel cap for almost a year and I changed the gas cap......
Demiigodd nope. Buy the part in the link and go to any local mechanic. It is couple of screws and a hose holding it. Takes literally under 10 mins to do it all.
@@AlexisLopez-yj3mz I went through all those steps. I replaced mine also and the error message went away briefly but as I drove and fumes built, it came right back on. Once you replace the purge valve, problem goes away after like 100 miles of driving or so.
@@plekplek4934 yes! Please be patient. The light will disappear as you drive. It took almost a week for me since I live in a smaller town and not put too many miles. If you replaced the valve, the light will disappear.
Bro I replaced my fuel cap with OEM and EVAP Purge Control Valve, PCV Valve and same problem any other ideas, other than to replace EVAP Purge Canister?
brad v ok so there is a simple test that tells you if you have a leak in your line. Take it to the Honda dealer. It costs $50 at the zip code 32306. Every dealer might be different. Or you can shop around and ask how much it costs to do a “smoke test” takes about 30 mins in and out. It will tell you immediately if there is a leak in the line.
@@KENFL74 thank you, i will look into it. I have 147k miles on it and I take it up to speeds matching my odometer from time to time. I am just annoyed by this. Its a long term at this point, if I get 200k plus miles Ill be shocked.
@@afdave7 Will a smoke test determine weather or not the problem is coming from there? If so, do you think it could isolate the problem and make it cheaper to fix?
Angela Perez if it does not pass the inspection do NOT spend the money for further testing! Go buy your part from Amazon and take it to ANY mechanic. It literally takes them 7 mins to put the purge valve in !!! Service charges you $100 for smoke test and then another $175 for the purge valve replacement.
Anand Lim Purge valve does NOT reset right away. You have to drive and some like 30-50 miles and next time the system scans it, the light goes off. If you change the purge valve, it will reset for sure!

I see in your description you didn't list a 2008 Honda Accord. I have a 2008 Honda Accord with the same issue, could it be the purge valve?

This could possibly be the fuel pump gasket under the carpet under the middle row seats.

Just keep driving and it will disappear about 75-100 miles into it if not faster.

Anand Lim Purge valve does NOT reset right away. You have to drive and some like 30-50 miles and next time the system scans it, the light goes off. If you change the purge valve, it will reset for sure!

Im pissed. Mine was cleared for about a year after replacing the purge valve and the “check engine cap” message just came back.
