    This video helped me out. We ran our bz down to zero today 30 miles from home. I knew how much buffer we had from the video. Thanks for making this video.

    Fair enough as 'bZ' in the name means 'beyond zero', perhaps Toyota took it literally haha. Guess it's fair since ICE cars would also have quite some range left after the fuel warning comes up anyways just to let you get somewhere to refuel

      @SvenQ45 ปีที่แล้ว

      The red space means you still have 5 liters left but that also depends on the car of course.
      But doesn´t matter which kind of car you have it´s best to net get it completely empty I´d say.

      If 100% is at 4.17V per cell then I see no room for top-buffer. 4.17V is very common value in e-bikes. E-bike battery charger never charges to 4.2V. Typical value is between 4.15V-4.17V.

      @@bjornnyland I’ve had my AWD bZ4X for a month now and started to notice that the battery charges to less and less range even when the vehicle says it’s at a 100% state of charge. For example, couple of days ago it fully charged to 218 miles (US) and today it charged to 209 miles. Any advice?

Love your family video road-trips too. Never seen anyone using the emergency chargers with their car before….this was really interesting. How heavy are each of them please? Thanks, Mr. Bjorn.

    Its nice that you can see the buffer for when the power ammount goes down and somewhat trust it to not go empty before there is no juice left, so you dont have to bet on hopes and dreams.

    So in the end the usable capacity of the battery is 63-64kwh :). I don't understand what buffer they released, because even before the update you could still travel 30-35km when the GOM shows 0km range.

    I had the upgrade carried out on my BZ4X last week, but it didn't release any extra range from the buffer.
    Since getting the car back in November 2022, it has actually lost range. It has dropped from 450kms at 100% to 405kms at 100%...This time of year, with increasing temperatures, I thought, like with my Nissan Leaf, that the range would increase...Toyota Ireland can't explain why this has happened. Is anyone else experiencing this issue?

    • @karlitono
      @karlitono ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I don't think it lost range, just got better at predicting range based on your travel pattern (speed used). My Leaf shows for summer cca 225km, a borrowed showroom Leaf says 270.

    Jajaja, cell cut-off at 3.14v! Wow, that was feasible some day in 2010, but definitely not in 2023 😂

      On e-bikes cut-off point is set at 2.8V.

    • @tomsixsix
      @tomsixsix ปีที่แล้ว +5

      There's very little benefit in going below 3V/cell but it risks bricking the battery. Toyota do well to give you 5kW output power at very low cell voltage, giving you option to manuever out of the way before total power loss.

    • @EugeneHoochie
      @EugeneHoochie ปีที่แล้ว

      @@tomsixsix yes, there is not too much energy below 3.2V, some 10-15% by order of magnitude. Lower cut-off (mostly 2.8v by bms and 2.5v on the cell level) is applied under load to allow sufficient power at lowish SOC, so that when static voltage is 3.2v, you can still pull 1c. What toyota did- they applied static limit to live voltage under the load, which is rather silly.

    I heard interesting comments from my battery guy in China who got to see info of the bZ4 battery test and the parts photos. In short. The battery has major design flaws that will shorten its life. They cannot be fixed with software updates. It looks like design was revised in the last minute but it did not help and now they are stuck with this battery pack for awhile.

      @@mondoflambe8522 Got our BAIC EV back from the shop, 4th time, and they said they finally figured out the problem. Good to have a 8 year warranty. Interesting comments:”Factories dont expect first generation cars to be on the road that many years. Your car has 6 years warranty left but as an EV it’s already outdated and kind of a hobby car. So the warranty is a marketing trick.” Probably the same with Toyota, they are famous for their warranty problems and pay millions in fines every year. When my Toyota friend had a problem he showed me a website where they listed them all. Toyota spends so much in advertising those problems are never mentioned in media.
