Great job, it looks great, well done ! I am building one myself, I cheated and bought the mechanism ready to go due to lack of time and skill really... :)
it as two purpose first is to oxygen the fire and second to recuperates the senders in the box below, put a grill over the hole to keep the charcoal in the BBq
Old comment but at 4:59 you can see a pin inserted through the rod. Just need two of those. You can also maybe use a tap and die, and thread the rod on the far end enough for you to install two nuts on the end opposite the wheel. Could also adjust tightness that way.
Pretty brilliant way to build one of these that is also very cost effective - well done!

Awesome BBQ man. No welding either! How is the steel rod held in place? It’s so smooth and quiet, really great job man.

Do you have dimensions on the grill? I am looking at welding a cart version for my patio and I like the overall dimensions
Where exactly did you get the 40 inch blocks? I've looked at Home Depot and Lowe's and can't find them. What are they called?
Nice grill. How much did it cost you? and what the dimensions?
About 500$ Can. two or three grill long, begin with the grill and built around it.
