Just a general tip for the Odogaron Set as many people us it. Do not use the Alpha Chest. Get the Beta piece. You get a nice slot and all you lose is bleed resistance which is useless anyways.
This is honestly the best build video I've found so far. I'd love to see you make a video with other weapon types like bows or glaives. You just earned yourself a new sub regardless :)
@RMCF, thats really depend on your build, but in general i can say; WE, attack, CE, elementless damage, quick sheath, focus, Capacity Boost, Constitution, Critical Boost, Critical Draw, Evade Extender, Evade Window, maximum might, stamina surge, handicraft, piearcing/spread shot.
I think you can do even better with the divine slasher If you use divene slasher eye patch α dober armor β nerg hands α nerg pants β deathsstench boots β handicraft charm you then have 3 3deco slots 1 2 deco slot and 2 1 deco slots you can then put 2 attack decos in the 1 slots for attack up 7 get an elemtless and a weakness exploit jewel for more raw power and the weakness exploit lvl 3 and have still have two lvl 3 deco slots for free use maybe agitator if a deco exist for it over all you would have weakness eploit lvl 3 attack up lvl 7 agitator lvl 2 non element boost lvl 1 handicraft lvl 5 for a nice long white sharpness and 2 lvl 3 decos left so your crit would be at 55% for weakpoints 61% if enraged and on a weakpoint and 71% if you augment the weapon and you can still get boost from corallorchestra if you play solo With that build i sometimes reach over 1.2k attack in solo player and we all know that raw damage is better than elemental damage Would appreciate it if you would take a look at this build
This is the actual best build for Longsword. In fact you can get a Protective Polish gem and replace the attack gems for grinder gems to stay at White sharpness forever which will in the long term give you more damage than 6 True Raw.

Divine slasher - Attack Jewel Handicraft Charm Dragon Eye Patch - Critical Jewel Dober Mail B - Critical Jewel Kaiser Vambraces B - Critical Jewel Nergigante Coil B - Elementless Jewel Death Stench Heel B - 2 x Attack Jewel Affinity Boost, Rock Steady Mantle This set contains the following: Attack Boost 7 Critical Boost 3 Weakness Exploit 3 Handicraft 5 Non-Elemental Boost Divine Slasher WHITE Sharpness / 832 Attack %15 percent natural affinity when Augmented. Armor (maxed out) = 453 Fire resist 5 Water resist 0 Thunder resist -5 Ice resist 0 Dragon resist -2 One can remove 2 attack gems to instead add 6% affinity due to the fact that affinity no longer increases after attack boost 5. To reach a natural 21% affinity for a 71% affinity boost when attacking weakpoints. Paired with the Affinity Boost to have 100% affinity boost so long as its active. (And give affinity to fellow hunters who greatly appreciate it) High damage, decent resistances (that dont hit -10+) and affinity support for team hunts. Also for you Fashion Hunters. I realized 3 handicraft only gave about 6 swings of white sharpness before getting to blue which doesnt exactly lend to a consistent damage build which is what I was going for. This build trades circumstantial events (such as small bursts of increased damage when the monster is enraged) for consistent damage that lasts all hunt.
MaleficArken Im HR 15 rn and i've created the armour you told us about but i don't have any jewels or the Divine Slasher. It would be helpful if you could tell me a fast way to farm jewels and get the divine slasher.
RaijinXV There is a new Event hunt currently out that is 6* rank that gives a lot of decorations. Currently that is a fantastic way to gain some decorations. Keep in mind that all of the gems are level 1 or 2 so you dont have to farm tempered elder dragons for them. Do not neglect the Elder Melder. Since you will be stacking a lot of gems you can take advantage of getting rid of ones you will never use. To get the Divine Slasher, you have to do Arena Quests (located in the gathering hub) as it is a guild weapon that utilizes coins. Another tip. Elementless works with Blast Weapons as well. Edit: Farming Tempered Elder Dragons is always good however, so you can gain the augmentation items and potential for future builds.
Nick Krits I myself dont consider Earplugs a must have. This is because a lot of people do not realize something about Monster Roar, many can be dodged depending on the severity of the roar. Monsters with a long roar are typically those that you cannot roll through so earplugs is a boon. However a well timed roll can render you immune to that monster roar without having to invest all those points into earplugs. I dont consider it necessary because i try to time all my dodges with the monsters roar. Its a good practice to have as youll end up learning what you can and cant roll through.
Nick Krits they have an animation. There are no health bars or anything numerical to tell you its going to roar. Fighting a monster long enough youll end up knowing what movements is does when it roars. Typically, youll see it take in a dee breath and rear or flick its head to then open its mouth and let out a roar. Example. The first time you see a monster and attack it, it will always let out a roar. You can train rolling through this. Likewise when they get enraged they always change visually and let out a roar, you can practice during these times as well.
MaleficArken imo earplugs are useless in the game with the LS as you can stop it with the counter dodge attack ( R2 + O ) Not only does this make you unaffected it also fills your gauge if your ls hits the monster
I miss playing mh. The last I played is mhfu. And one of my favorite weapon is long sword too. My favorite melee set for that is combination of black diablos and azure rathalos and added decorations to fill the missing skill pts, that has skills of artisan: so that my attack won't bounce even if in its lowest sharpness, high grade earplug: for total immune to scream, fast sharpening, reckless abandon 1: for criticals. Fast charge skill is also good for long sword too, u can build your spirit gauge fast with less normal attacks. 👍
Hahah so you’re dying in game and causing people to fail hunts because you want to look cool, yes I hope I never get stuck with you, you do realize with most sets you only need three pieces for your bonus stat and mix in a 2 piece gear for that stat bonus and still look cool, ps, Xeno armor isn’t that great you look like a fking glowing fly.
Hey I'm working on a tempered dragon set, still working out the details but it is intended to be versatile with a good mix of survival and damage. Guild Cross Helm Beta - T1 x 3 - This gives you the versatility, you can slot 3 miasma, 3 attack, 3 elemental, 3 vitality; it's a great helm and it has no weaknesses (0 weakness/resistances) - Also grants Divine Blessing 2, cause why not. Brigade Suit Beta - T2 x 2 - It is the ONLY armor in the game that gives more than one T2 slot, also 0 Res/weak; finished Divine Blessing. Kaiser Vambraces Alpha - T1 x 1 - Weakness Exploit level 2 - 1 Resistance to dragon. Dober Coil Alpha - T2 x 1 - Dragon Resist Level 2 + Attack level 1; also has 4 dragon innate resistance with mild negatives. Kushala Crus Beta - T3 x 1 - Evade Extender level 2; haven't finalized on this one, but the key is having another T2 or T3 slot. Handicraft Charm III - Should push you to white sharpness, if not available on the weapon can be switched for something like Attack 3. The big focus with this build is on minimal weaknesses, a strong resistance to dragon, and SLOTS! This would give you FOUR tier 1 slots; THREE tier 2 slots; and a tier 3. - As mentioned the Tier 1 can be used very broadly including 3 miasma decorations + 1 attack. The Tier 2 allow you to add 3 decorations of critical boost, 3 max might, 3 part breaker, 3 slugger; it really opens up possibilities. The tier 3 can be an extension of the tier 2, finish weakness exploit, protective polish, non-element. Of course I would recommend a weapon with at least one tier 2+ slot. Biggest weakness to this build is the sheer dependency on decorations; without a good amount of rare decorations, the build falls very "meh"; plus the build requires grinding in the arena missions...UGH!
For LS, or any other non GL weapon that burns through sharpness, I have: Kaiser Crown B, Rathalos Mail B, Kaiser Vambraces B, Odogaron Coil B, Kaiser Greaves B, Master's Charm 3, 3 Crit Boost jewels, & 2 Crit Eye Jewels. The set gives Critical Eye 7, Weakness Exploit 3, Latent Power 3, Crit Boost and Master's Touch.
Latent Power isn't super necessary, though if for some reason you aren't able to attack a weak point, while LP is active you'll still have a 60% chance to Crit, not including you weapon's Affinity. A weapon with at least 20% Affinity, including any Affinity augments, can get 100% while attacking weak points, without LP needing to trigger.
I'm new to mhw and I'm using the xeno jiiva longsword with eye patch and odogaron set. I'm HR49 so still working on a lot of stuff. There's plenty of room for improvement but this set seems amazing so far. Just enough white sharpness works great with the odo 4pc. Currently at max crit eye and will have max weakness exploit when I get the damn deco. Great starter set for anyone looking to get into tempered i feel.
This game requires ridiculous amounts of grinding, i’m nearly 100hrs in about to fight Vaal Hazak (already beat Teo, Nerg and Kushala) and i’m still not even close to having the gear that I want. I don’t have one long sword of each element type, I don’t have an ice long sword or an adequate fire long sword, I don’t have the armor pieces that I want. Then when I enter master rank all my armor becomes worthless and I have to grind all over again. It is exhausting
I like my personal one xeno torso waist and legs. The glasses for head and Damascus arms. The main points about this set is getting razor sharp, handicraft and power prolonger. That power prolonger makes the long swords charge last longer. Meaning your red sword lasts long enough to take full advantage of that charge level. So you don't have to focus so much on getting your red back again. Oh yeah. And handicraft charm. Also I got lucky and got a protective Polish Jwl.
yo dude great guides and build ideas, through the knowledge you passed on i found a pretty hefty build that surpasses the damage potential of every class on here weapon: divine slasher rath soul healm b kushala cista b kaiser vambraces b nergigante coil b death stench b exploiter charm 2 decorations: elementless jewel, expert jewel (three of them), critical jewel (two of them), sharp jewel, and an attack jewel. Odogaron build - exchange alpha mail for beta to gain a slot and get rid of bleeding resistance, change handicraft charm for master charm to max out critical eye
Yup this might actually be THE strongest damage build for Longsword in the Game right now if you do not want to work with Heroics. I will probably craft it myelf when I get all the jewels needed (Attack/Crit Eye) For End-Game content: Yes the Damage might be crazy, but until you have augmented/upgraded everything to the maximum Armor, try to use the skill Healthboost (up to +50 HP stacking with food-/itembuff) and slot in some elemental resistance or just raw defense! Especially HR 49+ Monsters can completely 1-Hit kill you, if you run pure damage builds on only 150 hp! Highmetal Braces Beta for example give +2 Healthboost and one level 1 slot (Healthboost jewels are level 1). One of my most favourite armorpieces at the moment ;)
I'm not sure if I'm missing something here but the ratholos mastery works for all elements so you can just switch out your sword to an element the monster is weakest to, removing what you considered the biggest flaw of that armor set.
I wouldn't consider the last build not being "strong to dragon" as a weakness. You're playing off of elemental damage with the set and there doesn't seem to be anything in it that requires you to use Extermination's Edge. Just swap out the weapon and maybe a couple jewels and there you go. It may not be the absolute strongest against each element, but like you already stated this build is flexible and will deal significant damage regardless of the weapon equipped.
considering the fact different monsters have different resistances, a raw damage and crit build won't be the best. there are no best builds. do what you like and learn from it
On Brute Force swap the attack charm to handicraft and swap the legs to Nergigante Beta and put a protective polish gem in it. You lose 9 raw and some of the bonus from Agitator but gain the white sharpness modifier and a way to maintain it fairly easily, which ends up giving you significantly more damage in the end.
You need to hit the weak part of the monster to active the Weakness Exploit skill. And for most monsters the weak part is their head, and only their head. So it's really hard to get the 100% crit unless you can constantly hit the head.
Goku & Chestnut umm that is misinformed info the weakpoints aren't always the head there are many that are weak by their tail, front legs, and chest. I use a great sword or switch axe so I usually have no choice but to pick my attacks, so I know the head is not always going to be your focus.
Critical Boost is the best skill in the game, but it's nothing without Weakness Exploit. Attack Boost is probably the easiest way to increase your damage and you can get plus 7 very easily after HR29, followed by Agitator and elementless. Maximum Might plus Weakness Exploit can easily get you 100% affinity. Finally, if you can get a Protective Polish decoration you're pretty much set.
been rocking a somewhat similar build (to your best build) but changing the gloves to nergigante. you'll lose one lvl of crit boost but gain 2 lvls of agitator and a slot as well as the 3 piece from nerg. With the right gems you'll also get a 100% affinity when agitator procs (and you don't need any affinity on your weapon) you can also swap out the helmet for nerg to max agitator with a charm, works pretty good as well. dunno if it's better though but agitator seems pretty strong
Rookslayer. Nergigante legs body and head. For maximum might 3, and stamina surge 2. And hp regen. Or you can put odogoron mail on instead for speed sharpen. Deviljho grips and coil for later power 3. 50% affinity + reduced stamina depletion. A lot of slots. Lvl 1 and 2. And it looks great
The Skills "Critical Boost" is mistranslated in the Game. The damage of affinity attacks is 125%, so you get 25% Bonusdamage when you landing a Crit. The Skill raises the damage not by 30%, but the bonusdamage you do with affinity attacks is increased TO 30%. so in the end you deal 130% attack damage with affinity attacks. Getting a Critical Boost +3 is far better than +1 and i don't recommend using just the lvl 1 skill because the extra damage you deal is very low in comparison.
I try to put affinity and critical boost and it's imposible... there's no point to put 40% of critical damage if u can't do critical damage in all yout hits... I prefer do normal criticals in 100% of my hits than doing 40% of extra damge 30% of my hits

Hmmmm i always thought that "weakness" means not the elemental damage, i thought it means the weak bodypart of a monster.....so the the text dosent say that clearly.....are you sure it means the elemantal and not the bodypart which makes more sense in my opinion ? Anyway quit different build than mine. Helm: Death Stench B with Weak Deco Chest: Rathalos A Arms: Rathalos A Waist: Oradagon B with Atta Deco Legs: Oragon B With Atta Deco Charm: Masters charm lvl3 Sword: Xeno with Att decos and heroes stone for affinity. But i like ur builds also much.
Weakness Exploit is active on any raw hitzones of 45+, elemental does not factor into it at all. Basically if you go into your hunter's notes and look at the Monster Field guide any part of the monster that is highlighted red is a raw hitzone of 45+ and will activate WE.
joel walser he's talking about there being only a couple large+ monsters that are relevant that have resistance to dragon element, the rest of the time he's talking about the physical damage. As a hunter, you want to aim for the weak parts of all monsters anyways that almost all would know he's only talking about those times with WE. Most understand that he's not talking about having 80%+ raw affinity while hitting their non-weakness parts when talking about his WE sets. You can still hit that high of a raw number without WE if you want to go for a straight affinity and attack only (raw damage) build with some weapons and other workarounds, especially with decoration sets rather than base sets. I could be wrong but they might have more weaknesses too and it might also take a long time to farm the right jewels for the casual/busier player if the melder doesn't have them.
I use hazaak grosser augmented to 20% affinity and sharp jewel. maximum might charm 2. dk eyepatch with tenderizer jewel use the brigade body (focus 2) and 2 lv 2 gems slots and i put 2 crit boost gems on it. xeno hands, nerg coil - maximum might jewel death stench feet. gives white sharpness, protective polish, WE3, maximum might 3, (100% affinity with weapon), crit boost 3, also has 3 extra level 1 slots on it. atm i use grinder jewels but might change it since i don’t need to sharpen much because of polish. could put on divine blessing ones, or miasma for vaal etc. leaves a lot of customization options for specific monsters
To get the extra 5% affinity just use attack jewels. One more level in attack you get the affinity bonus of level 4 attack or higher. You also get extra attack.
What is your angel of death build? What are the decorations on it? I really like the look of the armor but the negative Dragon resistance is bad. Nice Video!

For the first build just build replace the Odogaron a and use Odogaron b because why have bleed res? and also because you can get one more jewel socket for more critical eye.
I believe I'm close to the best longsword build possible, it's incomplete because I don't have the jewels I need and there are a few pieces I'll replace when I can grind elders more but, currently I'm getting higher numbers than a lot of TH-cam videos and I'm speed running pretty well. Exterminations edge - attack jewel Dragon king eyepatch - grinder jewel Dober mail b - vitality jewel Nerg vambraces a Nerg coil b - fortitude jewel Nerg greaves a - steadfast jewel Exploiters charm You can see some things that would obviously be replaced, having a hard time with the jewel grind.
Yo dude, i have a build idea...not sure if it works or not but might be a better build. Its gem oriented its why I cant try it myself. Here it goes starting off with the headgear: strategist spect. With a speed sharp deco. Then rathalos mail beta for the chest piece and another speed sharp deco. Kushala grip beta with elementless deco on it. Odogaron coil beta with the odogaron set decoration on it ( forgot the decos name) then rathalos greaves alpha Divine slasher for the sword handicraft 3 for a charm ( im hoping handicraft 3 is enough to get me into white sharpness) If not elementless isnt needed add an attack deco instead and an attack charm then exterminations edge Add another speed sharp deco on either sword With this build (if it works) id get the following: Rathalos mastery ( just a side extra tbh) Critical eye 4 Weakness exploit 3 Evade window 2 Handicraft 3 Speed sharpening 3 Jumpmaster (The diablos 4 piece set bonus) elementless deco (The odogaron 4 piece set bonus ) from the other deco forgot its name Endnote: make headgear invisible, the set isnt that bad looking. And again its my first entry...so feel free to judge Edit: if that set works I think it might break the fockin game. So I hope it aint laughing material. Based on my ideas of it.....its god damn perfect...it even has jumpmaster to deal with annoying fockers who hit you mid helm breaker 2nd edit: you could use diablos nero braces for focus and an extra slot instead of evade window or bazel vambraces for critical draw Falls to personal playstyle

Kirin is a special kind of elder dragon. It is not actually of the elder dragon species but by definition fits into that category. "When we can't fit a powerful monster into any category, we just lump it in with the Elder Dragons."
The set I'm working towards (missing some decorations) is: divine slasher, nerg helm beta, dober mail beta, teostra gloves beta, nerg waist beta, death stench legs beta, handicraft 3/attack 3/ speedsharpinging 3 or crit 3 charm, crit augment, elementless dec, weakness exploit Dec, 2 attack decs and 3 crit boost decs and 1 protective polish dec. Should work out to be atk boost 4/7, max might 2, weak ex 3, crit boost 3, handicraft 2/5, speed sharpening 0/3, crit eye 0/3 protective polish 1, elementless 1. Should workout to be 85 or 95% crit with sustainable white sharpness and 1.4 x crits? I'm gonna have to play around with the final damage to see which has the best overall sustained dps but I'm not sure if there is a higher damage alternative to that.
Nice video. The problem with nergigante sword is you can’t add sharpness to it. And white sharpness gives you 5% more damage than blue,if I’m not wrong
If you change to death stench heel you have handicraft lvl2 and 2 slots wich you can use for grinding jewels to speed the sharpening and use sharp jewel aswell so you have white sharpening you just lose 10% affinity from the maximum might but you gain white sharpness on hazak grosser
All these builds are great however in my eyes it’s about dps and not just how hard u can hit, so I run Eye patch a Kusksa chest b Kaiser brace b Kirin hoop b ( for 3 slots) Death stench boots b Ear plug charm Divine slasher Decorations 2x ear plug Sharp Elementles Then 5x single slot gems which I switch out but mostly run 2x grinder and 3x steadfast. Skills given are Earplugs 5 Handicraft 4 Weakness exploit 3 Blight res 1 Plus 5 changeable gems. All elder dragons killed in 5-10 min. This is my end game set and earplugs in elders are huge since they all roar a lot

I mean divine slasher is overall better but this build has more diversity and utility because it mainly works with any elemental weapon so you can choose

Really helped me a lot :) I have a question though: what do you think about changing the best set's nerg greaves into death stench and change maximum might into handicraft lv5? will that make a lot of damage difference? I don't know the exact math, but does the higher affinity beat the higher sharpness? Once again, your videos really helped me a lot!

Nice video Quizzle! I like the builds you put here but I'm likely going to stick with the Xeno gear. Looks cool and has high defense. Don't too much like all offensive builds because 1 crack to the head and you're about dead!
Also, you could change the "best build" weapon to something with 2 or 1 level 2/3 slots and add 'protective polish' and weakness exploit jewels(Xeno weapon perhaps?). This will free the gloves to nergigante/whatever else to unlock the nergi's special set bonus skill.

you are wrong dude, critical boost I only boost your critical hits for +5%, coz without any boost on critical, your crits do 25% more dmg. so critical charm I is no worth at all, put the II or III
looks like a solid build however i feel that crit damage boost level 3 is not necessary for max damage output. the difference of from 30% to 40% with a longsword is only 1-3 more damage for most swings. since it does not work on the elemental crits. also i feel like the damage might be better if you use vaals long sword for more dragon damage and get a Gem that give you sharpness polish you would get much higher damage output with better quality of life. i feel like the xenogiva gloves are not needed in this guild at all. i would go for nergigante or possibly handicraft gloves of somekind. (not sure if vaals LS gets white sharpness.. )
Y'know you could always counter the vs dragon weakness with 3 resistor gems nulifying all element blights. Also the Nergigante B set with Teostra/kaiser guantlets is pretty good too.
So i think I've found a better way to do the last build. Extermination's edge Grinder Jewl ( Can be anything though ) Rath soul helm B Attack Jewl x2 Rathalos Mail B Grinder Jewl ( Can be anything though ) Kaiser Vambraces B Sharp Jewel Nergigante Coil B Critical Jewel Nergigante Greaves B Critical Jewel mighty charm This gives me 95% Crit and the following skills Attack Boost 4 Critical Boost 3 Weakness Exploit 3 Maximum Might 3 Speed Sharpening 2 Protective Polosh You do need the right Decorations though.

For the raw damage build, Couldnt you just use the Nirgigante LS instead to counter the low sharpnes? You'd lose a tad bit of damage but the extra uptime from alot more sharpness would be more than worth it I think :) Then you'd also have those extra slots free amd wouldnt have to spend them on grinder jewels either
IDK but I guess from playing MH since Freedom 1 on PSP (first game for PSP when I got it in 2007, not long before MHF2 was released) that I took Critical Boost at face value of adjusting the crit value to 30%, 35% and 40%. Note: MHF1 I loved Hammers and Greatsword. MHF2 I loved Longswords and Bows. Always thought Gunlance was cool but never got into them.
Not sure how rare this drop is, but I recently got a jewel dropped that has the set bonus of the odogaron set (After sharpening your weapon sharpness won’t go down). So maybe a solution to having sharpness problems with some of the builds is just praying that the RNG blesses you
I prefer to use Divine Slasher with elementless jewel. Then for armor, I use nergigante helm beta, rathalos mail beta, Kaiser vamb beta, nergigante coil beta and nergigante greaves alpha. In gem slots, attack jewel, critical boost x2, and stun resist x3 only because I don't have enough attack jewels to boost it up more. For charm, I use handicraft lv3. Gives Divine Slasher a nice chunk of blue sharpness with some white. Altogether it's a very high damage set with a lot of versatility (7 total gem slots, 1 level 3, 2 level 2). I just don't see the point of focusing so much on Dragon element when there aren't that many monsters weak to it. Sure, in training area it looks good. But considering even when monsters are weak to an element, they have varying elemental weakness to certain spots of their body. Just seems like you're putting a lot of effort for 120 Dragon while sacrificing more than 120 attack.
Just a general tip for the Odogaron Set as many people us it. Do not use the Alpha Chest. Get the Beta piece. You get a nice slot and all you lose is bleed resistance which is useless anyways.

These sets are just for starters to work their way up... I highly recomend this to those new players who wear it for style..
When you get more decorations you'll realize how garbage base gear is. It's all about the decoration slots.

WE, attack, CE, elementless damage, quick sheath, focus, Capacity Boost, Constitution, Critical Boost, Critical Draw, Evade Extender, Evade Window, maximum might, stamina surge, handicraft, piearcing/spread shot.
and micology if you want more cheep consumable health and boosts.
Run a beta Odoggo top instead and slot in a more useful skill than Bleed Resist.

and 2 lvl 3 decos left
so your crit would be at 55% for weakpoints
61% if enraged and on a weakpoint
and 71% if you augment the weapon
and you can still get boost from corallorchestra if you play solo
With that build i sometimes reach over 1.2k attack in solo player and we all know that raw damage is better than elemental damage

This is the actual best build for Longsword. In fact you can get a Protective Polish gem and replace the attack gems for grinder gems to stay at White sharpness forever which will in the long term give you more damage than 6 True Raw.

Edit: I have further refined the build by supplementing an additional Critical Boost Gem into a socket and replaced the handicraft gem that was on the Slasher itself with another attack jewel. In addition I swapped the no longer needed Critical Boost Charm with a Handicraft Charm to gain the maximum benefit of Max Handicraft. I realized 3 handicraft only gave about 6 swings of white sharpness before getting to blue which doesnt exactly lend to a consistent damage build which is what I was going for.
This build trades circumstantial events (such as small bursts of increased damage when the monster is enraged) for consistent damage that lasts all hunt.
MaleficArken Im HR 15 rn and i've created the armour you told us about but i don't have any jewels or the Divine Slasher. It would be helpful if you could tell me a fast way to farm jewels and get the divine slasher.
RaijinXV There is a new Event hunt currently out that is 6* rank that gives a lot of decorations. Currently that is a fantastic way to gain some decorations.
Keep in mind that all of the gems are level 1 or 2 so you dont have to farm tempered elder dragons for them. Do not neglect the Elder Melder. Since you will be stacking a lot of gems you can take advantage of getting rid of ones you will never use.
To get the Divine Slasher, you have to do Arena Quests (located in the gathering hub) as it is a guild weapon that utilizes coins.
Another tip. Elementless works with Blast Weapons as well.
Edit: Farming Tempered Elder Dragons is always good however, so you can gain the augmentation items and potential for future builds.
Nick Krits I myself dont consider Earplugs a must have. This is because a lot of people do not realize something about Monster Roar, many can be dodged depending on the severity of the roar.
Monsters with a long roar are typically those that you cannot roll through so earplugs is a boon. However a well timed roll can render you immune to that monster roar without having to invest all those points into earplugs.
I dont consider it necessary because i try to time all my dodges with the monsters roar. Its a good practice to have as youll end up learning what you can and cant roll through.
Nick Krits they have an animation. There are no health bars or anything numerical to tell you its going to roar. Fighting a monster long enough youll end up knowing what movements is does when it roars.
Typically, youll see it take in a dee breath and rear or flick its head to then open its mouth and let out a roar.
Example. The first time you see a monster and attack it, it will always let out a roar. You can train rolling through this. Likewise when they get enraged they always change visually and let out a roar, you can practice during these times as well.
MaleficArken imo earplugs are useless in the game with the LS as you can stop it with the counter dodge attack ( R2 + O ) Not only does this make you unaffected it also fills your gauge if your ls hits the monster
I miss playing mh. The last I played is mhfu. And one of my favorite weapon is long sword too. My favorite melee set for that is combination of black diablos and azure rathalos and added decorations to fill the missing skill pts, that has skills of artisan: so that my attack won't bounce even if in its lowest sharpness, high grade earplug: for total immune to scream, fast sharpening, reckless abandon 1: for criticals.
Fast charge skill is also good for long sword too, u can build your spirit gauge fast with less normal attacks. 👍

Hahah so you’re dying in game and causing people to fail hunts because you want to look cool, yes I hope I never get stuck with you, you do realize with most sets you only need three pieces for your bonus stat and mix in a 2 piece gear for that stat bonus and still look cool, ps, Xeno armor isn’t that great you look like a fking glowing fly.

Hey I'm working on a tempered dragon set, still working out the details but it is intended to be versatile with a good mix of survival and damage.
Guild Cross Helm Beta - T1 x 3 - This gives you the versatility, you can slot 3 miasma, 3 attack, 3 elemental, 3 vitality; it's a great helm and it has no weaknesses (0 weakness/resistances) - Also grants Divine Blessing 2, cause why not.
Brigade Suit Beta - T2 x 2 - It is the ONLY armor in the game that gives more than one T2 slot, also 0 Res/weak; finished Divine Blessing.
Kaiser Vambraces Alpha - T1 x 1 - Weakness Exploit level 2 - 1 Resistance to dragon.
Dober Coil Alpha - T2 x 1 - Dragon Resist Level 2 + Attack level 1; also has 4 dragon innate resistance with mild negatives.
Kushala Crus Beta - T3 x 1 - Evade Extender level 2; haven't finalized on this one, but the key is having another T2 or T3 slot.
Handicraft Charm III - Should push you to white sharpness, if not available on the weapon can be switched for something like Attack 3.
The big focus with this build is on minimal weaknesses, a strong resistance to dragon, and SLOTS!
This would give you FOUR tier 1 slots; THREE tier 2 slots; and a tier 3. - As mentioned the Tier 1 can be used very broadly including 3 miasma decorations + 1 attack.
The Tier 2 allow you to add 3 decorations of critical boost, 3 max might, 3 part breaker, 3 slugger; it really opens up possibilities.
The tier 3 can be an extension of the tier 2, finish weakness exploit, protective polish, non-element.
Of course I would recommend a weapon with at least one tier 2+ slot.
Biggest weakness to this build is the sheer dependency on decorations; without a good amount of rare decorations, the build falls very "meh"; plus the build requires grinding in the arena missions...UGH!

For LS, or any other non GL weapon that burns through sharpness, I have: Kaiser Crown B, Rathalos Mail B, Kaiser Vambraces B, Odogaron Coil B, Kaiser Greaves B, Master's Charm 3, 3 Crit Boost jewels, & 2 Crit Eye Jewels. The set gives Critical Eye 7, Weakness Exploit 3, Latent Power 3, Crit Boost and Master's Touch.
Latent Power isn't super necessary, though if for some reason you aren't able to attack a weak point, while LP is active you'll still have a 60% chance to Crit, not including you weapon's Affinity. A weapon with at least 20% Affinity, including any Affinity augments, can get 100% while attacking weak points, without LP needing to trigger.
I'm new to mhw and I'm using the xeno jiiva longsword with eye patch and odogaron set. I'm HR49 so still working on a lot of stuff. There's plenty of room for improvement but this set seems amazing so far. Just enough white sharpness works great with the odo 4pc. Currently at max crit eye and will have max weakness exploit when I get the damn deco. Great starter set for anyone looking to get into tempered i feel.
This game requires ridiculous amounts of grinding, i’m nearly 100hrs in about to fight Vaal Hazak (already beat Teo, Nerg and Kushala) and i’m still not even close to having the gear that I want. I don’t have one long sword of each element type, I don’t have an ice long sword or an adequate fire long sword, I don’t have the armor pieces that I want. Then when I enter master rank all my armor becomes worthless and I have to grind all over again. It is exhausting
I like my personal one xeno torso waist and legs. The glasses for head and Damascus arms. The main points about this set is getting razor sharp, handicraft and power prolonger. That power prolonger makes the long swords charge last longer. Meaning your red sword lasts long enough to take full advantage of that charge level. So you don't have to focus so much on getting your red back again.
Oh yeah. And handicraft charm.
Also I got lucky and got a protective Polish Jwl.
Hazak slicer 2, and using full suit of Vaal Hazak. with nothing but attack n shapness gems. works great with nearly infinite HP

Yup this might actually be THE strongest damage build for Longsword in the Game right now if you do not want to work with Heroics. I will probably craft it myelf when I get all the jewels needed (Attack/Crit Eye)
For End-Game content: Yes the Damage might be crazy, but until you have augmented/upgraded everything to the maximum Armor, try to use the skill Healthboost (up to +50 HP stacking with food-/itembuff) and slot in some elemental resistance or just raw defense!
Especially HR 49+ Monsters can completely 1-Hit kill you, if you run pure damage builds on only 150 hp!
Highmetal Braces Beta for example give +2 Healthboost and one level 1 slot (Healthboost jewels are level 1). One of my most favourite armorpieces at the moment ;)

I'm not sure if I'm missing something here but the ratholos mastery works for all elements so you can just switch out your sword to an element the monster is weakest to, removing what you considered the biggest flaw of that armor set.
I wouldn't consider the last build not being "strong to dragon" as a weakness. You're playing off of elemental damage with the set and there doesn't seem to be anything in it that requires you to use Extermination's Edge. Just swap out the weapon and maybe a couple jewels and there you go. It may not be the absolute strongest against each element, but like you already stated this build is flexible and will deal significant damage regardless of the weapon equipped.

On Brute Force swap the attack charm to handicraft and swap the legs to Nergigante Beta and put a protective polish gem in it. You lose 9 raw and some of the bonus from Agitator but gain the white sharpness modifier and a way to maintain it fairly easily, which ends up giving you significantly more damage in the end.
You need to hit the weak part of the monster to active the Weakness Exploit skill. And for most monsters the weak part is their head, and only their head. So it's really hard to get the 100% crit unless you can constantly hit the head.
Goku & Chestnut umm that is misinformed info the weakpoints aren't always the head there are many that are weak by their tail, front legs, and chest. I use a great sword or switch axe so I usually have no choice but to pick my attacks, so I know the head is not always going to be your focus.
That's why I mentioned "MOST"
Critical Boost is the best skill in the game, but it's nothing without Weakness Exploit. Attack Boost is probably the easiest way to increase your damage and you can get plus 7 very easily after HR29, followed by Agitator and elementless. Maximum Might plus Weakness Exploit can easily get you 100% affinity. Finally, if you can get a Protective Polish decoration you're pretty much set.

been rocking a somewhat similar build (to your best build) but changing the gloves to nergigante. you'll lose one lvl of crit boost but gain 2 lvls of agitator and a slot as well as the 3 piece from nerg. With the right gems you'll also get a 100% affinity when agitator procs (and you don't need any affinity on your weapon) you can also swap out the helmet for nerg to max agitator with a charm, works pretty good as well. dunno if it's better though but agitator seems pretty strong

Rookslayer. Nergigante legs body and head. For maximum might 3, and stamina surge 2. And hp regen. Or you can put odogoron mail on instead for speed sharpen. Deviljho grips and coil for later power 3. 50% affinity + reduced stamina depletion. A lot of slots. Lvl 1 and 2. And it looks great

The Skills "Critical Boost" is mistranslated in the Game. The damage of affinity attacks is 125%, so you get 25% Bonusdamage when you landing a Crit. The Skill raises the damage not by 30%, but the bonusdamage you do with affinity attacks is increased TO 30%. so in the end you deal 130% attack damage with affinity attacks. Getting a Critical Boost +3 is far better than +1 and i don't recommend using just the lvl 1 skill because the extra damage you deal is very low in comparison.

I try to put affinity and critical boost and it's imposible... there's no point to put 40% of critical damage if u can't do critical damage in all yout hits... I prefer do normal criticals in 100% of my hits than doing 40% of extra damge 30% of my hits
If u can put critical boost lvl 3 and affinity around 80% tell me how.

Hmmmm i always thought that "weakness" means not the elemental damage, i thought it means the weak bodypart of a monster.....so the the text dosent say that clearly.....are you sure it means the elemantal and not the bodypart which makes more sense in my opinion ? Weakness Exploit is active on any raw hitzones of 45+, elemental does not factor into it at all. Basically if you go into your hunter's notes and look at the Monster Field guide any part of the monster that is highlighted red is a raw hitzone of 45+ and will activate WE.

joel walser he's talking about there being only a couple large+ monsters that are relevant that have resistance to dragon element, the rest of the time he's talking about the physical damage. As a hunter, you want to aim for the weak parts of all monsters anyways that almost all would know he's only talking about those times with WE. Most understand that he's not talking about having 80%+ raw affinity while hitting their non-weakness parts when talking about his WE sets.
You can still hit that high of a raw number without WE if you want to go for a straight affinity and attack only (raw damage) build with some weapons and other workarounds, especially with decoration sets rather than base sets. I could be wrong but they might have more weaknesses too and it might also take a long time to farm the right jewels for the casual/busier player if the melder doesn't have them.
I use
hazaak grosser augmented to 20% affinity and sharp jewel.
maximum might charm 2.
dk eyepatch with tenderizer jewel
use the brigade body (focus 2) and 2 lv 2 gems slots and i put 2 crit boost gems on it.

gives white sharpness, protective polish, WE3, maximum might 3, (100% affinity with weapon), crit boost 3, also has 3 extra level 1 slots on it. atm i use grinder jewels but might change it since i don’t need to sharpen much because of polish. could put on divine blessing ones, or miasma for vaal etc. leaves a lot of customization options for specific monsters
also use samurai hands feet and waist so my outfit doesn’t look too hideous
To get the extra 5% affinity just use attack jewels. One more level in attack you get the affinity bonus of level 4 attack or higher. You also get extra attack.
What is your angel of death build? What are the decorations on it? I really like the look of the armor but the negative Dragon resistance is bad. Nice Video!

I just use the nergigante armor with the chestpiece swapped out for the Dober beta. Looks a lot better and still boosts your damage to decent heights.

For the first build just build replace the Odogaron a and use Odogaron b because why have bleed res? and also because you can get one more jewel socket for more critical eye.
I believe I'm close to the best longsword build possible, it's incomplete because I don't have the jewels I need and there are a few pieces I'll replace when I can grind elders more but, currently I'm getting higher numbers than a lot of TH-cam videos and I'm speed running pretty well.

Yo dude, i have a build idea...not sure if it works or not but might be a better build. Its gem oriented its why I cant try it myself.
Here it goes starting off with the headgear: strategist spect. With a speed sharp deco. Then rathalos mail beta for the chest piece and another speed sharp deco. Kushala grip beta with elementless deco on it. Odogaron coil beta with the odogaron set decoration on it ( forgot the decos name) then rathalos greaves alpha
Divine slasher for the sword handicraft 3 for a charm ( im hoping handicraft 3 is enough to get me into white sharpness)
If not elementless isnt needed add an attack deco instead and an attack charm then exterminations edge
Add another speed sharp deco on either sword
With this build (if it works) id get the following:
Rathalos mastery ( just a side extra tbh)
Critical eye 4
Weakness exploit 3
Evade window 2
Handicraft 3
Speed sharpening 3

Kirin is a special kind of elder dragon. It is not actually of the elder dragon species but by definition fits into that category.

Level 12 Lobster it's crazy but tempered kirin is the hardest fight in the game

Should work out to be atk boost 4/7, max might 2, weak ex 3, crit boost 3, handicraft 2/5, speed sharpening 0/3, crit eye 0/3 protective polish 1, elementless 1. Should workout to be 85 or 95% crit with sustainable white sharpness and 1.4 x crits? I'm gonna have to play around with the final damage to see which has the best overall sustained dps but I'm not sure if there is a higher damage alternative to that.
Nice video. The problem with nergigante sword is you can’t add sharpness to it. And white sharpness gives you 5% more damage than blue,if I’m not wrong

If you change to death stench heel you have handicraft lvl2 and 2 slots wich you can use for grinding jewels to speed the sharpening and use sharp jewel aswell so you have white sharpening you just lose 10% affinity from the maximum might but you gain white sharpness on hazak grosser
Also you can get that 10% back cause you can augment 2 times

Elementles
Then 5x single slot gems which I switch out but mostly run 2x grinder and 3x steadfast.
Skills given are
Earplugs 5
Handicraft 4
Weakness exploit 3
Blight res 1
Plus 5 changeable gems.
All elder dragons killed in 5-10 min.
This is my end game set and earplugs in elders are huge since they all roar a lot

Obviously you have Extermination's Edge in your "best build", but i was hoping you could give me a little more insight as i have been seeing a lot of hype around the Divine Slasher lately.

I mean divine slasher is overall better but this build has more diversity and utility because it mainly works with any elemental weapon so you can choose
For those that hate how the last build has a blue helm and a red chest, just hide the helm and the set still looks pretty decent.

I have a question though: what do you think about changing the best set's nerg greaves into death stench and change maximum might into handicraft lv5? will that make a lot of damage difference? I don't know the exact math, but does the higher affinity beat the higher sharpness?

Nice video Quizzle! I like the builds you put here but I'm likely going to stick with the Xeno gear. Looks cool and has high defense. Don't too much like all offensive builds because 1 crack to the head and you're about dead!
You could optimize this build further if you utilized teostra's gloves (Weakness exploit 3).
Also, you could change the "best build" weapon to something with 2 or 1 level 2/3
slots and add 'protective polish' and weakness exploit jewels(Xeno weapon perhaps?). This will free the gloves to nergigante/whatever else to unlock the nergi's special set bonus skill.
You should do this for all the weapons. You'd be the first. Great. Earned a sub.

You can also chose to change on chest "Sharp Jewel 2" for "Mighty Jewel 2" so you can have 95% affinity, but your sharpening will decrease, I prefer the non-stop fighting that gives Speed Sharpening lvl 3 + Protective Polish lvl 1.

you are wrong dude, critical boost I only boost your critical hits for +5%, coz without any boost on critical, your crits do 25% more dmg. so critical charm I is no worth at all, put the II or III

I need a build pre gems due to the fact I haven't gotten them yet
looks like a solid build however i feel that crit damage boost level 3 is not necessary for max damage output. the difference of from 30% to 40% with a longsword is only 1-3 more damage for most swings. since it does not work on the elemental crits. also i feel like the damage might be better if you use vaals long sword for more dragon damage and get a Gem that give you sharpness polish you would get much higher damage output with better quality of life. i feel like the xenogiva gloves are not needed in this guild at all. i would go for nergigante or possibly handicraft gloves of somekind. (not sure if vaals LS gets white sharpness..
)
I think you forget about Rathalos Mastery allowing your elemental damage to crit.
Y'know you could always counter the vs dragon weakness with 3 resistor gems nulifying all element blights. Also the Nergigante B set with Teostra/kaiser guantlets is pretty good too.

For the raw damage build, Couldnt you just use the Nirgigante LS instead to counter the low sharpnes? You'd lose a tad bit of damage but the extra uptime from alot more sharpness would be more than worth it I think :) Then you'd also have those extra slots free amd wouldnt have to spend them on grinder jewels either
IDK but I guess from playing MH since Freedom 1 on PSP (first game for PSP when I got it in 2007, not long before MHF2 was released) that I took Critical Boost at face value of adjusting the crit value to 30%, 35% and 40%.
Note: MHF1 I loved Hammers and Greatsword. MHF2 I loved Longswords and Bows. Always thought Gunlance was cool but never got into them.
Not sure how rare this drop is, but I recently got a jewel dropped that has the set bonus of the odogaron set (After sharpening your weapon sharpness won’t go down). So maybe a solution to having sharpness problems with some of the builds is just praying that the RNG blesses you

I prefer to use Divine Slasher with elementless jewel. Then for armor, I use nergigante helm beta, rathalos mail beta, Kaiser vamb beta, nergigante coil beta and nergigante greaves alpha. In gem slots, attack jewel, critical boost x2, and stun resist x3 only because I don't have enough attack jewels to boost it up more. For charm, I use handicraft lv3. Gives Divine Slasher a nice chunk of blue sharpness with some white. Altogether it's a very high damage set with a lot of versatility (7 total gem slots, 1 level 3, 2 level 2).
I just don't see the point of focusing so much on Dragon element when there aren't that many monsters weak to it. Sure, in training area it looks good. But considering even when monsters are weak to an element, they have varying elemental weakness to certain spots of their body. Just seems like you're putting a lot of effort for 120 Dragon while sacrificing more than 120 attack.
