With Devil May Cry 5 releasing March 8th, what better time to dive into the Devil May Cry series and rank the best Devil May Cry bosses. We'll be ranking the bosses in Devil May Cry, Devil May Cry 2, Devil May Cry 3: Dante's Awakening, Devil May Cry 4, DmC: Devil May Cry, and finally Devil May Cry 5.
This 18-year running franchise holds up suprisingly well for a first time player in 2019. Today's video is on the best and worst Devil May Cry 2 bosses, including Phantom, Infected Chopper, Furiataurus, Arius, Nefasturris, Plutonian, Bolverk, and Argosax the Chaos. -Some of the Demon designs look cool, despite their A.I mostly being Brain Dead, besides the Final Boss

Fair. Granted I never gave this game the credit it was due (what little there is) mainly because it was eclipsed by the everything else. Although Dante does look his best here. Aside from 4s DILF mode.
Music is forgettable as hell tho

DMC2 may be not great, but you can play as Trish and she is great.
They made 2 easier as backlash from 1 being quite hard. Then they make 3 super hard as backlash of 2 was that it was too easy.
Lol true but they readjusted the normal difficulty in DMC 3 and even on hard/very hard the game isn’t too bad. They got the difficulty just right and DMC 1 is much harder

I think the more accurate criticism for the first two games is that the difficulty is too imbalanced; in 1, it was a bit too tuned to the bad guys' favor and in 2 it was more tuned to your's especially with Majin DT.
My first DMC game. Imagine the shock when 3 came out, which forced me to play the first, and realize that dante wasnt a zombie.

one of the few good things about the game
Here’s the thing about difficulty in Devil May Cry: the games aren’t supposed to be one and done games. Your encouraged to retry the game on a harder difficulty in order to challenge what you learned on lower difficulty and teach you new things, such as using Devil Trigger wisely and not to rely on items, and using items lowers your overall score. Even some of the bosses change, getting new attacks and abilities rather than just upping the damage. The reason your started with normal, or devil hunter, difficulty is to give you a starting point that you can work from. The difficulty you’re supposed to conquer is Dante Must Die, which is the full experience of the game. For example, in DMC1 Dante Must Die stops devil trigger from healing you, and in DMC3 Vergil gets an all new, dangerous attack called “summoned swords” that forces you to completely rethink the fight.
Don’t bother with that crap in DMC2 though. That crap doesn’t matter in DMC2.

@Rize Games Ya Trismagia can be tough. Despair Embodied is imo one of only 2 well done bosses. It and Bolverk. Both have full combos and are actually capable of launching and juggling you. The only bosses that feel like proper DMC bosses. Too bad the game can be broken in so many ways and these 2 don't have the best AI.
DMC2 DMD is a mixed bag. Some of the bosses are significantly better, even getting new moves and strategies but others just become tedious damage sponges.

DMC 2 is ass anyway. There's no real combo, all melee weapons are the same. Each weapon plays the exact same way, no special mechanics at all. Actually, why would you even even use melee weapons where guns are OP as fuck in DMC 2? That game is a bore fest and a testament to "How to NOT design an action game."
@@Aliens1337 Yup, but using meele was easier to swallow and since i played this game FOUR times to get Trish and finnish blood palace, which i didn't finnish(shamefull display of my patience) i can aggree that people should avoid this game like ebolaids. But some enemy desing on hard mode was fun.

@@BaruGaming guns aren't OP in DMC1 lol, are you braindead? in DMC 2 the guns stunlock every normal enemy and deal incredibly fast damage to all bosses, and since most of the bosses lack ranged options its insanely easy. The guns in DMC 1 aren't nearly on the same level, and if you rely on them you'll get your shit rocked quite quickly.

When you play DMC3 i'd recommend paying attention at the style meter. It might sound stupid, but it's a system that makes sure you have the most fun.
In 1 and 2 it was poorly implemented, but in 3 by making you use as many moves as you can it makes you learn the mechanics so combat becomes flashy, fun and fast paced and getting SSS feels so good. Also, getting S rank at the end of the mission gives you a ton of red orbs, and with so many important upgrades you want them.

3 words for every boss in the game, ahem "pew, pew, pew!"
As sub-par as this game is, there is one concept in this game that I hope would be expanded upon in later titles. That is the idea of the Devil Hearts. This concept was by far my favorite part of the game as it kind of consider it a precursor to the Blood Gems in Bloodborne. Each Heart has a unique effect on it that can make some interesting combinations if combined with other Hearts. This is a great idea because it gives a unique way to make bosses easier by having certain bosses have weaknesses to certain Hearts(Not just in more damage, but in dealing with movesets). It is a concept that makes you want to experiment with them and see which combination works better on certain bosses. The reason it did not work here is because of the same issue that plagues the game as a whole, Devil Trigger. Devil Trigger makes this concept go from being an interesting mechanic to a straight-up gimmick because there is no need to utilize them efficiently. Just spam it to win, game over. So as a whole, I love the idea of the Devil Hearts, and it could've made this game a lot more interesting if it was better executed.
Despair Embodied was so difficult. It was like the entire game made you comfortable with it's playstyle and then said "Now this is how a real DMC game plays".
I loved it though. Doing those sick, perfectly timed dodges as Dante and delivering a few quick blows before it strikes again was extremely satisfying.
I had my volume on full blast for the first second of the video and I almost threw my phone across the continent

Chri_C the game is bad though. I played it recently and it bored me to death. Removing skill moves/abilities that could be purchased with red orbs was dumb, as was removing different combos based on button press timing. Making the devil arms have the same move sets but just changing range and power just makes having different weapons pointless as you get nothing new. It’s also really bland to look at because they just decided to use browns, grays, and blacks as the color palette. The only thing I’ll give the game is Dante and Lucia’s designs and the amulet customization.

@@cri_c I'm sorry to say, pretty late too, but this is just flat out objectively bad. Like opinions aside if you really try to focus on the facts and mechanics about this game it's pretty aweful. You have to make a better argument for why you think this game is better than what people experienced. The only other person I've seen that thinks DMC2 is ok also thinks DMC5 is a disappointment. I think you're mixing your opinion against the cold truth of DMC2. You can have fun playing a terrible game. But that doesn't mean that it's objectively good or better than you think. You just happened to like the flaming garbage and got something out of it. Idk what but you did. Bottom line DMC2 is aweful and that's just a fact.
They need to remake Dmc 2 instead of the first game, keep Dante (and his Devil Trigger and Majin Form) & Lucia's (and her Devil Trigger) look though.

I don't care what anyone says, Devil May Cry 2 is a guilty pleasure. Matter of fact, I think Devil May Cry 2 was the first Devil May Cry game I played.
If I remember correctly, me and my parents were camping in the backyard of one of my dad's friends cause we were planning on going to a water park. The next morning, I was playing too close to the fire place, I tripped and felt in, luckily the fire was out long before it'd happened, but I fell hands first into broken glass bottles. It hurt, but luckily none of the broken glass dug into my hands. I went inside my dad's friend's house to clean up and heal, and then I saw two people playing a game. And like I said, I believe it was Devil May Cry 2. They saw me, and asked if I wanted to play it. I said sure, and I played that game until it was time to go. Granted, I didn't know what I was doing, as I didn't beat the level, but I did remember I was having fun with the game. And cut to years later, when I was at my local Wal-Mart, I found the Devil May Cry HD collection for my PS3, and I immediately bought it with my own money.

Just wanted to say it’s really great that you’re back, your output has been insane so far this year. Keep killing it man!
I feel like it can’t be understated that using items because you don’t want to limit your options in a way is ironic based off the game’s design. I probably come off sounding like an arrogant asshole but the items are more or less a handicap for new players. While I understand how that the first two games don’t do a good job at conveying this (DMC1 having a very primitive way of measuring style and 2 being super easy), later games urge you more and more to not use them. The enemies become more aggressive as the series goes on and the bosses become more complex and punish simplistic play. This is where the improved style ranking comes in, which is a lot more specific in how well you vary attacks but also show you how well you are doing in raising it (which encourages you to be more stylish). Using items however resets it and lowers your overall score. The higher the ranking the higher the score and the more orbs you get. The more orbs you get the more you can spend on more moves. The more moves the more style potential etc etc. Sorry for the rant but i would really recommend you change how you approach this game as you move forward through the series. But all and all I’m really enjoying the new series and would love to see more videos from it.
I completely agree with you. Items are a crutch and shouldn't be used unless you're really bad and want to just beat the game. I'm glad they're being removed in 5 cause they just took up space in the other games and enabled players to not get better.

Here's an idea for the Infested Chopper Boss, since the chopper seems to reappear three times, make the infestation appear more on the boss with the final battle with the Infested Chopper really take on a demon like appearance and use more than just missiles and machine guns, maybe have it use the tail blade to try and stretch out and stab you or use some other move that would make you rush back up through the platforming part instead of firing missiles like machine guns as if it was on sale!
Same with the Infested Tank, since you fight multiple infested tanks, make the infestation stronger for each time you fight them, and have something to punish you for staying so close to it to exploit its weakness.
the next one is the best of the franchise
the combat system is better in dmc4, but atmosphere, music, characters and cutscens are better in dmc3
@@sono_scemo I think it's debatable. 4 Dante has some insane tech, but he lacks the variety of 3. Every player has the same arsenal and skill set. That said, I prefer 4.

@@edybocman76 If the demo is anything to go by, 5 will absolutely be the best. Nero feels so much more fun to play now. Dante will have custom loadouts like 3 and style switching like 4. Best of both worlds but I've heard that 5 doesn't have Inertia and that could result in way less tech for 5 Dante. Just have to wait and see.

I consider Agrosax the despair embodied to be a seperate boss but taken together a well made second half doesn't excuse the garbage fire before
DeMod, I'm really glad you're back and that you've returned with some exceptional boss ranking videos, hopefully doing these has given you the spark you need to continue releasing great content on your channel. Having said that, I really hope that if in the future, for whatever reason you need to take another extended break... I really hope that next time you will give SOME kind of heads up to your fans that you'll be taking some time off, even if it's just a ten second blurb at the end of a video or something. I think it will go a long way.
I completely understand that life gets in the way of recreational pursuits sometimes as it does for all of us, but to all but abandon your TH-cam channel for almost a year without a single mention as to why or what was going on felt like you were giving me, a fan, a total shrug-off. I hope this doesn't come across as whiny, after all, I'm a huge fan of your TH-cam content. I'm just writing this as a fan, after seeing you disappear for such a long time, you begin to wonder if everything's okay, if you don't care for TH-cam anymore, etc. Anyways, this is too long a rant as it is, but basically: big fan of yours, and I hope to continue a fan for a long time. Furiataurus , Bolverk and Despair were amazing .
In fairness to the game, yes Normal is the intended difficulty for your first playthrough, but that's basically practice to get you ready for the higher difficulties. I know this because beating the games unlocks Dante Must Die mode in each of them; difficulty modes that go insane with its tension. But I don't know how a game that allows you to cheese it with Devil Trigger is prepping you up for its hard mode.

The fact that this was my first DMC game and I still fell in love with the series speaks pretty highly of DMC as a whole. I’m sure if I played the first one first then I would have felt different. But this is one of my all time favorite game series.
13:16 Playing DMC using items and not caring about the style ranking is like playing through the Souls games with summons. You can do it, it's not wrong because there's no wrong way of playing any game, but you won't be getting the most out of the games. That being said, I wouldn't blame you if you played half of Dark Souls 2 in co-op if you know what I'm saying. And this advise mostly applies to DMC3 and beyond anyways, since styles, the much bigger movesets and the ability to change weapons on the fly make it much more fun to actually try for high style ranks. It's also kinda difficult to know when you're going to rank up or down in 1 and 2 because you only have the rank title on screen, the style meter in DMC3 makes it a thousand times better.
And about the harder difficulties, yes, they're better (well, haven't tried on DMC2 since decent bosses that happen to be too easy benefit from higher difficulty, but garbage bosses usually end up being even worse. I can't imagine fighting the chopper with even more health). But they're also basically the New Game + of these games. At the end of the day the devs know most people won't play past normal and are still designing these games with that in mind.
Have fun with DMC3, if you haven't played you're in for one hell of a game. Pretty much everything you've complained about in these videos is solved there.
I srill dont like how he plays, shoots until devil trigger, use it to attack and when it ends go back at shooting, as you said there is no wrong way of playing a game but there are more fun ways of playing a game, his way is just boring but i dont blame him for playing like that on dmc2 because this ones ass
well, cant blame him, if it works, its not wrong, also, DMC2 melee is very weak, they focused too much on the gunplay. i still like DMC2 to be honest, but its by far the weakest in the series.

@@TuskyBaby then he should play DMC3 SE on hard mode then, because THAT was the original US DMC3's normal, and to those who may not know the original DMC3 which in response to DMC2 being piss easy was made incredibly difficult, so much so that when DMC3 SE came out the following year the whole game's difficulty system was rebalanced as follows:

Tateobesu is actually the hardest boss in the game on Lucia Must Die mode because he is "invisible" the entire time so you can't lock on making the fight a total crapshoot.
He and Argosax The Chaos have the biggest differences when it comes to their AI on Must Die difficulty
@@arthursnyder6935 Didn't notice any changes to Argosax the Chaos, Despair Embodied felt more aggressive I guess but it's kinda hard to tell since it's a fairly aggressive boss even on normal as a baseline, maybe I'll notice more when I replay it next.

Even tho I realized as a child that playing DMC2 was very different from the first one I thought at that point it was just how a sequel was supposed to be, different, I had no idea how truly bad it was or that I should have hated it as a child and kind of enjoyed it bc the combat and movement was better than 1 with more bosses, so therefore I actually still can somewhat appreciate DMC2 bc I liked it as a kid, at the end of the day it gave birth to 3 and 4 right?? 🤷🏽♂️ Show some appreciation.

This was my introduction to the series, I have fond memories of it, aspecially the enemy designs, atmosphere and background music, the endboss and the building boss are some of my favorite, can't wait to see what the next dmc brings to the table
Everything about this game makes a lot more sense when you remember it was really thrown together in like 4-6 months. Officially it was two years, but the development team only made one animation up until the last 6 months of development. The original director disowned it and Itsuno was brought in to try and salvage anything he could from it.
I only used Rebellion when I wanted to charge the devil trigger, aside from that I just used the guns through the entire game :/
Pretty much everyone's playstyle for this game
Bolverk is pretty fun and fighting Despair as Majin Form, despite being absolutely onesided, is a cool spectacle.
I remember playing this awhile back on the HD collection a couple days after beating DMC1 for the first time. Dante felt slowed down and the new aerial mechanics were jank. I felt like the guns were pretty much necessary for most of the bosses as opposed to DMC1 where it made many of them easier. Bosses were boring as a result, plus enemies from DMC 1 showing up just felt lazy.
The hell level towards the end and the new DT powers were pretty tight though, and I stand by that. fite me
I remember realising that Bolverk was just skeletal Odin, which was cool.

Trismagia when heads are separately, they take damage when you have matching amulet set on you. Like ice on ice head, fire on fire etc. So it register hits but you cant dmg it when you use wrong amulet.

I’ve been playing through DMC3, so I’m really looking forward to your thoughts on it! It’s got some pretty solid bosses, and some not so stellar ones, but isn’t that all games? I’ve highly enjoyed my time with the game and look forward to seeing your thoughts on it!
I actually really like this game and subscribe to the head canon that it’s just really easy because at this point in the timeline, Dante has taken down all the big bads to his knowledge so it’s just another Tuesday for him and the only reason he’s back to normal in 4 is because he could sense a powerful foe (Nero) to give him a proper challenge again.

The first DMC was one of my first ps2 games, and I loved it. Then I played the second when it came out and was so disappointed that I almost didn't get DMC3 (luckily I changed my mind).
Then, a couple of years ago I took the HD trilogy and decided to replay all 3 of them, and damn, DMC2 is even worse than I remembered it to be, just hot garbage.
Same here. Been playing the DMC games on and off for years now and I've been playing the crap out of the HD addition again. I just can't bring myself to finish DMC2 though because it literally makes me want to sleep.

When I battled Furiataurus, he repeatedly kept burning the nearby surrounding area on the other edge of the arena, as I just held square.. He did nothing else, and neither did I. Great boss 11/10..
Trismagia’s battle has it so only one head takes damage per the heads combining.

I don't see how harder difficulties fix this game's issues. It makes enemies even more bullet spongy, so instead of shooting at them for 5 minutes, you get 20.
Really, I just let them put me down to low health so I get the Majin DT (which ALWAYS works if your health is in the red. It's not a rare chance). Just to do it quicker.
In the HD version of DMC3 Kalina Anne's grapple move was removed accidently. Also the lighting is a little off and there may be some other oversights.

I beat both campaigns in a day, and hoo boy, those six hours felt like Twelve.
I’ll say this if it wasn’t for this game we would have never gotten him in SMT:Nocturne. Plus the artist from nocturne would go on to design the devil trigger form of both Dante and Vergil for the DMC3.
Furiataurus in DMD makes the fight a little bit better than the normal diffculty. The minor difference is the tornado attack can suck you in really fast that requires you to get in the tornado by pressing the dodge button at the right time and hit him with a DT Million Stab (which is 🔼🔼➡️(Hold🔼) if you stay outside for too long he will the unleashed the AOE attack that will cover the whole area.
Anyone else notice that some of his vods on twitch have spaces of silence? Like I thought it was just like my internet it something so I went to a friends house and they still have like spaces sometimes ranging from 3-5minutes of silence. Asking on here because I don’t really know where else to ask
I think for Trismagia, there is a mechanic where a head is invulnerable for a brief time. I only began to think about this on Dante Must Die difficulty, which makes it a ridiculous fight.
Holy shit, I played this game yet I don't even remember these bosses except for the flashy second phase of Argosax.
I would totally love a remake of DMC2 that and I would love to see Lucia redone and updated. I home DMC5 hasn't forgotten her existence since DMC2 is still technicaly canon
Also majin DT seems similar to syn DT in Dmc5 so again pretty cool
I always have an odd soft spot for DMC2. I know it's not good, but I don't think it's awful, far worse games out there. Plus once you know how the combo system works and figure out some of the hidden moves it can get quite fun and stylish (though Dante Must Die mode is just tedious than actually challenging in this game). As for the bosses, yeah most aren't great. Most are bad, and when they're bad they're awful, but some are decent and I find the top 3 to be a blast to fight. That being Argosax's final form, Nefasurris and Oranguerra are to me the best bosses in the game, Nefasturris being by far the best one. Which is kind of sad when your best boss is only 1/3 into the game.
Especially that fish boss that only Lucia fights because if you reach that battle on Dante Must Die mode, the fucking bastard is ALWAYS invisible
When i was little i played every devil may cry games but i don't have any memories about it, the only thing i remembered watching this video was arius design and the chopper, everything else is erased from my memory
I too have a nightmare of being trapped underwater with a giant squid or giant octopus chasing and painfully killing me.
I love how Super Devil Trigger made a return in Devil may cry 5, but as a second Devil trigger.
I know you said you were gonna play all games In the series, but you didn’t have to punish yourself like this.....
One problem I have with this list you made is that you counted Possessed Arius and Arius Argosax as separate bosses but didn't count Argosax the Chaos and the Despair Embodied as separate bosses and that inconsistency makes me question in what regard you put one boss over another.
Yo demod, just so you know the shotgun can really trivialize most enemies in the sereis, while the launchers are good, most of the time they dont hit moving targets, like the multy-headed boss, the pistols are possibly ur best bet. Just a friendly tip, experiment with different guns, and different strats. Have fun with the rest of this series
Man I wish we could get a DMC3 stream series...i miss them
Heres the thing, i remember beating dmc2 and suffering through the boredom and random difficulty spikes but literally the only boss i remember was trismagia because when i "fought" him it was an insane glitchfest that was infuriating but sparda heard me cry out and suddenly the boy just poofed and died randomly.
