Something about Mogh that I feel like lots of people overlook is that he is one of the few bosses (and even enemies) whose delayed attacks feel natural. He basically never just holds a pose for ages mid-attack, with any delays just feeling like a naturalistic side effect of accelerating his massive weapon. Unlike so many other foes, he never feels like he's delaying his attacks for the sake of it.

    • @buttbuttwhat1

Yes!!! You are walking into his domain. He feels like he is so in his element. The way he moves and just walks up to you. The way his attacks are delayed, but still flow. I beat him with a str build and he forced me to get on his level. I’ve helped others beat him countless times because he’s legitimately the best feeling, most polished boss in the game. I can’t get enough of it.

Yeah, his attacks don’t feel “delayed” like everyone else. They feel purposeful and heavy, which makes sense considering his trident is huge. He’s still agile with his hands for conjuring blood incants, but it makes sense that his melee attacks would feel slower

One aspect of Radahn you didn't mention is how well they incorporated the open world design into the boss. Most especially, you are rewarded for exploration. If you walk into the festival and meet a giant wolf man and a giant pot lad, that's cool and all, but if you walk in and see your old pals Alexander and Blaidd, here to share the "festivities," now _that_ is build up. Not to mention good ol' Patches. I was lucky enough to find him before I fought Radahn, so I couldn't believe it when I saw his summon sign. I thought, "No way, old scumbro showed up too?" And show up he did... and then noped out. That was a joke with the weight of 13 years of knowing and "loving" this guy. You bet your deathbed smalls I laughed.

I love the fact that Godrick is higher than Malenia, he is my personal top 5, such a good early boss. Radahn is still my top 1 but close behind him is Rykard - this fight is pure spectacle, hellish/lovecraftian atmosphere feels like straight from Bloodborne and he is probably the best gimmick fight in all FS games. Morgott - man I was very disappointed not seeing him on your top 10, one of the saddest but still badass bosses, I just wish he had more HP - I think the second phase with the new health bar would solve this problem... And Godfrey - I love his music in first phase but it is a pity that it was used earlier and he feels a bit less unique, fortunately there is a second phase where it turns into an even bigger GIGACHAD and you feel that you are fighting with a real Elden Lord.

I absolutely LOVE Malekith as a boss. In my opinion the most satisfying move to dodge in the game is when he flips 3 projectiles at you and swoops down for the double swing.
On my first character I was a dual great hammers build that abused jump attack mechanics. Sadly I think that fight lasted 2 minutes top for both phases. My next run was a dex lightning build and was much harder because I couldn't rely on my lightning to hit him. Such a good fight.

Man I would like maliketh a lot more if after just figuring out what he does I took up the gransax spear and like used only a few shots to kill him before he did much. Just feels like unlike many other bosses he was meant to have double his health. Like malenia or elden beast/rada where the first phase is a whole boss and the second is another. But this isn't the case for him and it really holds him back for being one of my favorites because he is meant to be really strong. And yet I can easily take him out with a large amount of weapons/spells ect really quickly. Vs even some lesser bosses can give problems to those same weapons and such. It didn't help malikeths position in the game makes it harder to refight him vs every other boss who doesn't work like a rock/scissors type of battle.

Well I think that doesn't apply to Hoarah Loux, the fight is completely doable alone, it feels like (and it actually is) a duel between the strongest tarnished warriors out there. And the fact that you can avoid some of his attacks by jumping (which is newly added if you don't consider Sekiro) is just amazing design for me. Besides, I always try to make my str character as barbarian as possible and caestus is my favorite weapon, Hoarah Loux is just that, a pure warrior fighting with his bare hands. I actually really like Elden beast, my issue with the Elden beast radagon fight us the fact that it’s two bosses in a row, if they did it like gherman and the moon presence where you only need to beat them once both would be really good bosses, Elden beast does have some pretty glaring issues, like the attacks that overlap and are near unavoidable, but if it was it’s own boss rather than a one after the other fight those issues would be excusable

I don't know about other commentors here, but I loved ER's main boss roster. I do think it's a shame that there is no good duo boss in ER, but there are so many bosses that I loved in this game and I would place many of them in a fromsoftware top 20 bosses list. I do have to say though, the consistency in the quality of bosses is worse than their recent titles. Over all I would rate ER's boss roster a little lower than Ds3's(with the two dlcs in mind).

Honestly to me ER bosses rival DS2 in *lack* of quality. If we complain that Friede is a BB boss in a DS game then we could say the exact same for Maliketh, Malenia, Margit/Morgott, shockingly enough both of the Godskins and so on, and so on. But at least Friede was surmountable without any cheese, just with pure skill. Never have I experienced a harder learning curve than with Friede, no cap SL1 double broken straight sword Gael was easier, and yet I didn't feel the need to summon Gael for her, nor do anything that would make the fight based on anything but my skill, nor was I really given an option to. Yes, stagger spam works nice and dandy in phase 1 and phase 2 is just a bloodshed with any weapon, but you can't rely on poisebreaking Blackflame Friede because her recovery frames are faster than greatswords and she also staggers a lot harder. And yet, I didn't feel the need to summon Gael or use safe magic on her, the only magic I used was to empower my melee offense, which I'm sorry to say, but that is how magic should be optimal in From games. These games are about thrill, adrenaline and a struggle. With magic as your primary damage source you can deal damage from a safe distance, not having to deal with constant melee attacks unless it is a super relentless boss we're talking about and this allows you to learn the attacks less, and considering that the only parts of dealing damage in From games that take skill are timing and positioning, you just straight up need less skill with magic.
To counter the safety and low skill floor of spell casters in these types of games, From has opted to nerf the damage of spells to the point where you're spending a considerable amount of extra time with bosses, giving you much more room to make a mistake, and they also upped the aggression of the bosses, which of course also affected melee, but melee became a tad bit harder with more excitement while magic just became less viable and a tad bit less boring.
When it comes to fights like Radahn, the game almost literally forces your hands to use summons, and a lot while at it. Bosses like Malenia can't really be reasonably fought without summons because you need some counter to Waterfowl dance, and if the game refuses to naturally give your kit a counter then you might as well abuse the one you can just pick up. Margit is very hard because he can do ridiculously delayed and stupidly fast attacks *literally at the same time* (in only a single roll duration), but if you use some piss weak spell like Glinstone Pebble he becomes easy and god forbid you summon the spirit outside his boss room the fight becomes a joke. That is ER boss design in a nutshell. Magic, magic and magic.
And if that wasn't bad enough, now imagine that magic also creates a mini you which can literally, *literally* solo the hardest boss in the game because you equip it with 2 spells and a decent weapon. What is that? That removes all the thrill, all the adrenaline, all the struggle, all the excitement, all of the spectacle and all of the *skill*. From bosses are usually either spectacle or skill, rarely both and before this game pretty much never neither. This game has truly become an arms race with the good souls players of fights tuned for 1.5+ people and a lot of distraction for the boss AI. This game hasn't given me my O&S, my Artorias, my Manus, my Ivory King, my Sir Alonne, my Champ Gundyr, my Twin Princes, my Nameless King, my Pontiff, my Friede, my Demon Prince, my Midir, my Gael, my Gascoigne, my Gehrman, my Ludwig, my Lady Maria, my Orphan or my Laurence. Those are all the highlights of prior From games, the greatest highlight of this game that I could name is Mohg because he's the only boss that is challenging while not feeling like he was just purely designed for more people. This game flipflops between unfathomably difficult and ridiculously easy and it depends on 1 (2 if you squint your eyes) factor(s): how much magic you use (and whether that magic includes mimic tear...). It very rarely, if ever, truly gives you that vigorous challenge where you need to give it your all without it being bullshit. You either get assfucked by most of the major bosses or literally go AFK and still win, and it all depends on your willingness to use a playstyle that blatantly takes less skill, is safer and is less exciting. When I ever do reruns of this game (which I only do because of Godrick and Mohg) I "cheat" through the game with magic, because I don't care about 99% of the content that is in the game. Limgrave is nice but after the first 2-5 hours (depending on how well you know the map) the game runs out of content mostly and becomes a boss "rush" (as much a rush as any game as unnecessarily oversized as ER is) where the bosses are plain shit a good portion of the time.
Elden Ring successfully revolutionized 2 game formulas: Open World and Souls games. It has made Open World games challenge players (which surprise, didn't work before nor did it work with ER, because in terms of quality the "challenge" this game provides is straight up shit for the most part) and it has ruined the Souls formula by leaning too hard into bosses being artificially too difficult for veterans and piss easy for those who are willing to disgrace themselves by using straight up cheats to turn on easy mode.
I want to hate this game but I can't because it has some good things to it. I want to love the game, but it is impossible because of the terrible bosses, oversized world, boatload of filler content and the overall lack of a well-thought out nature+challenge that was the trademark of Souls games. I hope Miyazaki takes away the proper conclusions from this game, sees where it outperformed any other and won't hide from the truth of the ridiculous amount of levels on which Elden Ring fails.

While you seek to destroy the Erdtree, and fix the Elden Ring by doing so, he protects the Erdtree, despite how it led to his own misfortune. You also both become stronger as time passes, with most players having a pretty solid build by the time they finish the capitol, and Morgott revealing his true Arcane Power in response.

A lot of the things that bothered other people just didn't bother me. Long combos, animation cancelling, delayed attacks, input reading, the boss running away, Duo bosses, power spikes, and everything else that one malenia comment mentioned did not bother me. Things that bothered me in other games like bad hitboxes or not giving me time to heal were issues that I rarely encountered in Elden Ring. Radahn hype! My top 3 ended up being Radahn, Godfrey/Hoarax Loux, and Maliketh, so nice to see the community agrees.
While I do agree that I think Radahn's nerf was questionable, I believe I do understand Fromsoft's line of thinking in why they did so. Statistically he hit far harder at launch than most of what unlocked as a result of beating him. Considering you had to beat Radahn to access Ancient Ancestor Spirit, Valiant Gargoyles, Fia's Champions, and Lichdragon Fortissax (Barring using the Subterranean Shunning Grounds skip for the latter two which I don't think most people did at launch), they all felt like cake in comparison to him. I needed 30+ vitality to not be 1 or 2 shot by Radahn when learning his fight, not to mention a highly upgraded weapon to not drag out the fight, and with those resources, I was curb stomping Nokron and Deeproot Depths. My belief is that they nerfed him to create a more natural progression of power with regards to Radahn-based progression. Even so, overcoming Radahn at launch was the single most exhilarating sense of euphoria I experienced in Elden Ring, and so I was sad to see the experience neutered.

I've made this argument a couple of times now, but I'll say it one more time.
Morgott is one of my least favorite bosses in the game, and Margit is top 3 best bosses for me.
The lore is top notch, I think we all agree on that. The problem for me is that Morgott is just so unbelievably lower quality from a combat standpoint than Margit is.
What makes Margit so great is that every move he throws at you has weight and reason to it. He feels like a realistic fight where he's genuinely trying his best to win. The second phase where he simply brings out his hammer is one of the most powerful moments in the game for me. Margit is easily the best representation of an early game challenge that could ever be possible for me.
Morgott on the other hand took everything I loved about Margit and chucked it to the side. Instead of moves full of heart and impact, he has nothing but easy to dodge spam. He just does a bunch of flashy attacks that accomplish nothing while I half pay attention and eventually win.
The Morgott fight honestly feels like a huge shitpost with no difficulty that an 8 year old would make, whereas Margit is a masterfully executed boss that still trips me up on repeat playthroughs.

6:50 Nothing about Waterfowl Dance feels fair. This is an impossible data set to collect, but I want to see how many people figured out the dodge roll for that attack on their own vs just looking it up. My personal opinion is that an attack should have a relatively clear window of safety. You can't dodge roll the first burst from WD, so why would you assume it works on the next two? You can't run away from all 3 either, and stunning her out of it is a huge gambit. I think this funnels people into the next strategy-- out-DPSing her with the use of a summon. I've played and beaten all the Souls games, Sekiro, Bloodborne, Nioh and Nioh 2, all of them multiple times, so I don't want to hear from some turbo fan about how Malenia's waterfowl is designed fine and its a skill issue. Its a readability issue, that attack is supremely unclear and if thats the direction From is going to take their later games I'll be hopping off this train.

On my RL1 I’m doing rn with bloodhound step (only use it for her waterfowl tho) her waterfowl dance is the only thing that kills me because the camera movement on her third flurry can send my dodge in a wrong direction and end up putting me into her attack, stun-locking me to death.
It’s annoying that a boss I can otherwise no-hit at this point is still killing me because of how rng it is sometimes to dodge that attack.
People try to excuse it because she’s “hard” and “optional”, but imo (not trying to blow my own horn here) once you’ve learnt her she’s genuinely not that hard bar the 50/50 chance you’ll get shagged when she does that one move. That doesn’t make it good or fun, because from my memory it’s the only attack in the ENTIRE SERIES that has no truly consistent dodge pattern, and it’s egregious that it’s still in the game.
Take that out, and I’d rate it as great for quality but I’m not going to accept a genuinely bullshit unfair move as a ‘new, difficult challenge’.

What made Maliketh my favorite was because of the build up and twist leading up to his true reveal.
You first meet him as Gurranq, the Beast Clergyman. He's in this mysterious hideout and the ambient music that plays gives me chills everytime, as he requests deathroot. You don't even know why he wants these, but you do so because he gives you cool spells and items as rewards. But it isn't until after 4, he goes berserk, scaring the lights out of you and requires you to fight him before he submits, begging to be forgiven in acting out. If you do spare him, he continues wanting more deathroots. You're on edge after that, knowing he can go berserk any moment.
Once you give him all 9, he understands now he cannot contain his lust for death and violence, but remains loyal to you in the end, thanking you for your service. That's all said and good but the payoff to this build up is when you end up facing him in the one place that seemed unlikely for him to be. He recognizes you (even the dialogue where he doesn't recognize you is amazing), and his dialogue seems to be of confusion, confliction, and even some sadness. He does not want to fight you at all, but must because it's his sacred duty to protect what you're after.
Then, it happens. You get him to half health and he realizes he is going to die. Knowing he cannot fight you holding back, he does the one thing he really did not want to do- undo the seal and obtain his Destined Death. Once so, you find out he is far more. The cutscene with his robes burning and drawing out the black blade, the one you've befriended ended up being the legend most demigods if not the gods themselves feared.
He was Malekith, the Black Blade.
He allows himself to become as violent as possible, the most violent creature to ever exist. He embraces his sinful nature in order to stop you from taking his Destined Death, and the fight with him in 2nd phase is wild. While I get for a melee user it's hard to punish him in this state, it just shows how horrifying and fearful it is facing this beast, as he's all over the place swinging the blade and continuing to pressure you non stop. The only downside to this fight is he is a glass canon, he either melts you or you melt him. I wished he had more health but besides that this fight is perfect, stunning, incredible on every front and when he dies- if you befriended him and did his quest, he has some words of sadness to his lady, knowing the Golden Order cannot be restored. Even with the fight where he doesn't recognize you, he does not hate you for besting him, he is only confused as to why you would do this. He doesn't know why you'd seek Destined Death.
    "To kill what ...?"
I love this boss. What a good climax before the finale of Elden Ring. Great boss 10/10

Maliketh is easily my favorite boss in the game. The max HP reduction feels a bit much and he still has the standard Elden Ring problem of doing too much damage, but the fact that most of his openings are during his attacks makes him feel a lot like a Bloodborne boss. His fight feels the most like a dance out of any boss in the game, which is a feeling that was woefully lacking in literally every other boss in the game except maybe Morgott. And that dance-like feeling is what makes bosses like Gael, Friede, Maria, Artorias, Orphan, and Gehrman some of the best bosses in all of gaming.

Such an amazing fight and a necessary fight for each play through even if it’s an optional one.
P.S this isn’t relevant to the fight but the weapons you get for beating him are amazing, maybe not the most op but shooting two yellow lasers out of a dragons head you conjured is never not cool, and the lightning spear is so badass and I use it as a secondary weapon for long ranged fights

@@kartikayysola For me its Godfrey, followed by Malekith (despite i have issues with his second phase)
      3. Loretta
      4.Morgott
5.Mogh (would be better if he wouldn’t cover the whole arena with fire)
      6. Niall (very cool in no hit trys)
      7. Placudisax (feels a little bit too easy but i was always good in fighting big bosses)
8.Rykard (simply because its the best gimmick boss fromsoft ever created and cool visuals)
Still i think eldenring would have been better if they would have put more emphasize in stamina management instead of creating very few attack windows. The movesets really should be toned down a bit and stamina should matter again

I remember that first week when Elden Ring was out, and everyone thought Radahn was this game’s Gael or Orphan. Boy were we wrong lol

So glad that I got to see Godfrey/Hoarah at No.2. I love his boss fight so much due to how much fun he is mechanically (Using the combination of jumps and rolls to dodge his combos while landing a hit in the middle of his safe combo transitions) and also he is probably the most fair mandatory boss of the game or even the entire game. Also had to make a personal ranking below:
    10. Malenia, Blade of Miquella
    9. Radagon of the Golden Order & Elden Beast
    8. Godrick, the Grafted
    7. Rykard, Lord of Blasphemy
    6. Morgott, the Omen King
    5. Starscourge Radahn
    4. Mohg, Lord of Blood
    3. Dragonlord Placidusax
    2. Maliketh, the Black Blade
(Personal top 5 favourite boss of any souls-like)
    1. Godfrey, First Elden Lord/ Hoarah Loux, Warrior
(Personal top favourite boss of any souls-like)

Malenia is in the bottom 5 for me. I'm down for life steal OR waterfowl dance, not both. She was kinda bullshit to me.
