Hello Varun, there is a correction needed in this video. Time - 15:28 Previous Nationality needs to be added as India. My OCI application got rejected today with this reason. It's possible that it's a recent change as the mandatory documents list has also been updated. Just wanted to let you know.

"A Person of Indian Origin, who do not possess an OCI card, and may be granted ‘X-1’ Visa for a period of five years at a time, with multiple entry facility."
I'm guessing that it is similar to an OCI card but it requires an actual VISA, but not sure if one can purchase property, etcetera on this X-1 visa.
Most importantly, how does one show evidence of Indian origin when applying for this visa? Is the evidence uploaded online during the visa application or is it shown at the airport upon arriving in Bharata?
Can I apply for OCI if I’m born in india but both my parents are non Indians and holding a foreign passport only I have is birth certificate

I have couple of doubts. I filled the online application (part A and B) and uploaded documents. After watching this video, I realised that I have made couple of errors. Do you think I can create another online application since I haven't submitted the docs or paid to VFS Global?
Also, I am doing Indian passport renunciation as part of the OCI application. Since I haven't renunciated my Indian passport yet, Should I mention previous nationality as India and specify the Indian passport number in 'Other' section?

To your Question 1: yes you can and fill up a whole new form and fix your errors.
Q2: I would apply for renunciation and get surrender certificate and canceled passport done first before you apply for OCI.
Just wanted to make it clear that in the OCI application checklist which I have from VFS Sydney, they have the option to surrender citizenship and renunciate Indian passport.
If your Indian Passport is not officially cancelled, submit the original Indian Passport for cancellation along with One Photograph (2”x2” size), Online Application Form and Form XXII
Reason being OCI is only for people who have already given up their citizenship. Check out my Renunciation video for those steps

Hello! Quick question, what is the consent letter and where can I find a template of that? Also it says we have to send in 2 photos, is that true?
This is something new they put out so they can rectify mistakes made by the person who applied. Format should just be like a formal letter. I don’t have any format handy yet

Hi Varunji, thanks for making video, it's very informative. I have one question, there is a confusion about photo i have to upload in application. one is in the checklist that mention 2 x 2 background white or 2 x 2 background light colour?.
All photos are colored. You have to send 2 physical ones.

The checklist mentions if it’s self attest vs not. And most importantly print sign and date the checklist itself and add it to your package.

High commission of India upgrade your system. Applying for foreign passport was so easier than applying for OCI. Why should we apply online application as well as physical documents ? Are we supposed to have a photo with a white background or a light background? Because in the OCI process it mentions that the background should be light(not white) in the start and then it says that the background should be white when uploading the picture.

It’s National idenentification which is unrelated to Naturalization. So keep it blank

Just ask your employer to provide an employee letter. They have a standard format they will provide. A PDF copy will suffice

If you are applying for OCI for yourself, not through spouse, is it necessary to upload marriage certificate and spouse name change certificate? Because spouse's name in my passport is different from spouse name on her passport/ our marriage certificate. I'm confused if i should match the name to what is written in MY cancelled indian passport or her official documents? would it even matter since I am not applying for OCI thru spouse? Any help or advice from you is appreciated! thanks!

Upload docs don’t need sign as they will be scanned copies. Ones you physically send need to be signed/notarized as requested

Instructions for Relationship-certificate upload
* Scan and upload the array of birth certificates from the applicant to parents/grand parents.
* Birth certificate issued from a competent authority is only acceptable.
* Foreign issued birth certificate is to be get apostle/authenticated.
* Scan and upload the apostle/authentication stamp page also.

If you can apply asap within this week then do it. Currently OCI is taking about 6-8 weeks so it might cut close to your trip. But you got it if it’s towards end of November.

Yes you can! No harm, only difference is you will get OCI card a little later in around ~6-10 weeks, Visa may arrive early.

It said : ' NATIVE ADDRESS PROOF IS MISSING'. What does this mean? when filling the application I did not see a box which implies (native address proof). Thank you very much. Sam

Hello, thanks for the great video! I have attempted to create the application, but every time I press continue it makes me start all over from the beginning. As well, every time I use the temporary password to start from where I left off it shuts the website off and brings you back to the home page. I have provided hours to attempting to fix this, restarted my computer, changed browsers, and cleared my cache. Thank you SO much for any help you can provide! :)

Thank you. I’ve explained it step by step on the video on why it’s not working and make sure you use combine pdf or such software to compress your image to get it under the aforementioned resolution.
Thanks for this video , watched it twice already. I think I missed a few things though:
1. I am applying for my entire family, do I need to submit 3 separate applications and then mail in 3 separate packages or can I do it in one-shot ?
2. Regarding uploading the documents, can I upload a single pdf with all the documents (address proof, passport, naturalization etc etc ) or do I have to attach them separately ?

Individual documents need to be uploaded.

Do I have to attest or notarize the marriage certificate as it's going to be frm Canada, before uploading and do we need an original copy too ? Thanks
if you applying through your own indian lineage. I don’t think so. Just copy should be fine.

Now applying for OCI, why do I have to give my employer's info? Can I leave it blank or not give that info? if I can leave it blank, what info should I enter in employer's details fields? When we upload Photo and Signature, Is it mandatory to crop and select? I submitted application already but I just uploaded and moved ahead. Just want to know if its mandatory to crop, Do I need to re-file as fresh application? Also, My wife was Indian citizen and now US citizen applying for OCI, I'm still Indian Citizen, Does she needs to select "YES" for based on spouse or she can select "NO" since she was Indian citizen by birth. Not mandatory to crop if it worked for you.
If she is filing for her own OCI with her own lineage, she does not need to go via Spouse.

In the document checklist, it's mentioned that, we have to affix a photo on the application form.
So do we have to affix a photo on top of the digital photo print after we printing out the form?

Can you please clarify the following: 1). you've said that you self attested, so did you sign and date the photocopied driver's license and passport or write something like "certified true copy of the original"? 2). You also mention having both front back of a driver's license, but on the application it doesn't mention front and back, just front and not cutting it down to size. 3). As for the US passport, you mentioned having it notarized, but VFS checklist doesn't mention that. Thanks again!
Just signature is enough for self attestation.
For DL I scanned front on top of the paper, and reused the same page to scan the back side. No need to cut down to size.
VFS no longer needs US passport notarized. So follow latest document checklist. They’ve made life easier for us 🙏🏼

Nice work. Its been a month I am waiting for my renunciation certificate and passport from embassy, in the mean time I paid fees for OCI 25 days ago & uploaded all forms in GOI website except renunciation certificate (haven't pressed submit button), do you know how long I can wait after paying fees at VFS for OCI before repeating everything again or can i go ahead & mail everything except renunciation certificate for my OCI processing.
Just to add, Checklist has a note in fee payment section as "YOU MUST SEND YOUR COMPLETE APPLICATION WITHIN 30 DAYS FROM THE DAY APPLICATION IS REGISTERED ON VFS SYSTEM" and I received application confirmation number from VFS 11/11.

When u applied OCI DOCUMENTS and upload indian passport did u print front( photo page )and last page (father n mother name page) printed in 1 page) to upload ? As it's allowing only 1 page per document or only front page that is photo and your name page is enough? As I will send physical documents .thanks
You will have to use a pdf merger software to put all passport pages into one pdf and upload

HELLO, I AM FILL NEW OCI APPLIATION FOR MYSELF IN THE spouse DETIALS CAN I ENETR THE INDIA PASSPORT NUMBER OR THE US PASSPORT NUMBER spouse DONT HAVE THE oci CARD.!
We have to give all the papers to FedEx or send it by ourself
If you select self courier you have to do it, labels courier etc.
If you pay for labels via VFS download the label and go to FEDEX and drop off to ship.

Hi Varun, Should we paste the hard copy of the photos anywhere or just enclose with a paper clip. The instruction says 'affix' but the digital picture is in there and there is no space to paste the physical photo.
Dont paste it anywhere, just enclose with paper clip. Digital photo is already automatically done so nothing to do from our side. Hope this helps, please drop in a subscribe to support me ! :)

Hey buddy, I got told to attest my birth certificate from the embassy (from the place i was born), I am currently applying OCI in another country. Which VFS appointment do I choose? Or How do I go about attesting using the embassy?
Using miscellaneous services with Embassy first need to do your attest/apostille.
Then apply for OCI.
I apply visa when go to India otherwise, you get visa then they will change rules, then you got to apply again.
