First of all thanks for the video. It was of great help. I have two questions though. 1. We were given new zip code 5 years back but that new zip code is not recognized by VFS courier registration page. It throws invalid zip code. It does accept if I put in my old zip code though. Thought I will go with old zip code to generate shipping labels but there is note there that says the shipping address on courier should match the address on address proof submitted. I'm confused and stuck now. Any insights or workaround? 2. Also, what is the address that I need to send my OCI application to in Houston, TX? I cannot find their address anywhere on the VFS website

Please advice on what background to use for OCI application photo for minors ?
Thanks for the Video. Much appreciated. I will be applying for OCI cards for my entire family. Me and my wife received US Citizenship through Naturalization and my Son who still a minor (less than 18years old) received US Citizenship through both of us . My wife and I have Naturalization Certificate , but my son not have a separate Naturalization certificate. We all have US passports and have applied for Indian renunciation certificate (which we will receive shortly) . I have few questions and hoping that you may be able to answer them .
1) In my Son's application what should I select in acquisition method as his Citizenship is through us ?
2) For the documents which I need to upload on Govt of India's site, should those be first self attested and then uploaded?
3) For my Son's application I would need Notarized Parental Authorization and Notarized Sworn Affidavit (as he does not have a separate Naturalization) . Do I have to upload the notarized version of those documents on the Govt of India's website .
Thanks in Advance !!
Hello Suja. Very informative video. I had a question on regarding notarization. Can i complete the OCI form completely and then take a print out and go only once to get the OCI form and parental authorization form notarized? Will i be able to reupload the notarized parental authorizatio form on the OCI website once i have submitted?
Informative and thorough. Each and every minute thing is covered. I don't think you need to watch any other video after watching this.
Thanks you for the detailed information. I have one question please when you say upload signature of applicant. Do I need to upload thumbprint for newborn baby. If yes which Hand . 🙏
Nicely Explained:) I downloaded Parental Authorization form from my checklist, here I have "do hereby authorize the issuance of enunciation Certificate/Declaration for the said minor" and you have mentioned 18:42, "do hereby authorize the issuance of OCI for the said minor" else application will be rejected. I am bit confused. Can you tell me the right way to do. Thanks in advance!!!
You can download the right one from description of the video
@@SujaPrakash Thank you
Thank you for the video its so informative. In the guidelines they say "Photograph to be affixed on the application should be a square shape of size not less than 51*51mm (with 80% coverage of face). It should have plain light color background (not white) without the border with front view of person's head and shoulders showing the full face in middle of the photograph. It should not be stapled and not have any signature." Why did they explicitly mention "not white" in photo background, I have only white background photos can I use that ? I am little confused here, do they mean not necessarily white or no white at all, can you please help ?
Did you send photo with white background or light background ?
Hi Suja, Thank you for the information that you have compiled. I had one question about parent's name. Both the parents of the minors have their middle names list in the "given names" section of their passports. So, should we include the middle names or just stick to first-name last-name as you mentioned at 2:50s of the video?
If it’s in the passport, then provide it in the given name itself .. your names in the application should match with passport
@@SujaPrakash thank you 🙏🏻
Great video Suja. Does the birth certificate need to be apostilled if applying from USA?
No need to apostle birth certificate
Thanks for your response Suja. However when I got OCI website they ask for apostilled birth certificate. Also reading on forums people are saying application got blocked because no apostle birth certificate.
Might be a recent update, will look in to it..
please refer below video on how to apostle birth certificate
th-cam.com/video/fgcqoT9grtA/w-d-xo.html
Can you provide the link where it says we need to apostille birth certificate.
I realized I was confused. VFS does not require apostille birth certificate. Copy will do.
Hello, thank you for this video. A couple of questions:
1. Should both (my and husband's) I-797s also be combined into one PDF?
2. There is mention of self-attestation in your related video and comments below - which step is this? I seem to be missing where it is required.
1)yes
2) please self attest and the documents your sending, its always a best practise to self attest .either of parents can self attest on behalf of minor .
@@SujaPrakash thank you for replying. Should we print, attest, scan and upload the attested copy? Or attestation for the docs/copies we send via mail?
Attest only physical documents
@suja prakash - Thanks for the video, i see a new document called "Consent form" added to the checklist for new OCI for minor for US citizens by birth, they haven't provided any template for the same. Can you please provide a sample?
+1 I am also confused about it.
Working on it .. will update the description asap
Hi Suja, For 1 year old baby girl, which hand use thumb like Left or Right ?
Hello suja Prakash It’s very helpful video I have a question all supporting documents have to be notarize ? And also current passport have to submit or not?
Should we combine parents' Indian passports too when uploading as Indian Origin Proof?
Hello Suja thanks for this informative video, Do we need to self attest other documents like passports, marriage certain , i797 or etc ?
Thank you for the awesome video…
If the person has a middle name…how to put his name in the application from? There is not option for middle name.
Thanks for the inputs. Great explanation.
One quick question I had notarized the OCI application and about to courier it. Just realized now that there is a typo in her application. Please suggest. Any input would be greatly helpful. Thx
Thank you for the video, have a question, do we need to attest all documents we send and upload the same attested documents in the portal?
Hello Suja, very informative post and appreciate the detailing. If I'm applying for OCI for the entire family (self, wife and kids), should I make it as 4 separate applications, courier forms or can I put all of them in one bundle and send it to the center? Please advise.
Thank you Suja for the detailed version. Quick question, should both parents give the consent in the letter?
Either of parents can do
Hi,
At 4:43 min of video , can we upload either of the parents signature for minor less than 5 years
No , for minor below 5 thumb impression is mandatory. Please check below video on this

Hi Suja. Thank you for detailed video. Should the thumbprint for minor be the same when we do the upload first and then in the Registration form?
Thanks for the video Suja. It's very helpful. One question. Do we need to fill the Declaration part above Application of Minor Child in page 3 of OCI application form? It also has Signature of the Applicant. Do we need to take thumb impression of baby there as well?
I have the same question. Thanks for asking.
May I know where to get the forms notarized? I visited bank of America and UPS. They both won't sign the application form because the form doesn't exclusively have a section that specifies where to notarize.
Excellent video. In our 3 year old daughter photo, hair band is visible. Will the photo be considered?
It should be fine
Hi Suja, the applicant image before proceeding in Part-B should be of the minor (12 months old) or the Parent? You have uploaded your image in the upload applicant photo?? Thanks
do they need fingerprint original too? we took it in rough papers and cut the bad ones and took the good one and attached it in file ..now i dont have the same fingerprint -- if i take it from the digital copy print it doesnt looks the same instead it looks bigger than what we took it . what to do
Thanks for the information..it will really help...please clear one small doubt.
For female minor applicant do we need right thumb impression or left? I got confused.please clear
Hi Suja, for photograph do the background needs to be non white, as I see it mentioned in the start pop up where you need click on I agree.
Go with white background itself ..
Hello Suja - thanks for your video - another quick question - at 2:35 minute in your video - we need to provide "Applicant's passport Details" - so is this US passport details or Indian Passport details ? (If Indian - the passport is already cancelled because of surrender) , please let me know. Thanks for your help !
US passport info
@@SujaPrakash Thank you !
This is so helpful! Thanks for sharing it. I have a question: I have old and new passports. Shall I have to submit old and new passport copies when applying OCI for minor? Or is only new passport is enough?
No need to submit original passport, only current passport copy is enough..
You really helped thousand of ppl. Very clear video with minute details. You made our lives easy.
Hi Suja,
Thank you so much for the video!! I have a question regarding the background color of the photo, does it need to be pale or white background works too?
It should be white. Just do as passports pictures

Hi, On Part B - Application for Minor child, first blank it has to child name not dad/mom name right, because it says " I am parent of _____child name??________

Thanks Suja, this is amazing. I had a quick query - there is no mention of consent letter either in this video or your follow-up video. Is that required for a minor OCI by birth application?
Yes it is required. Consent letter link is provided on video comment.
Thank you, your information is very helpful,I have a question do we need colored scanned documents? And do we need to self attest them after online submission or before
Not mandatory..
no need to self attest digital copy

I recently applied for OCI for my son and it took about 7 to 8 weeks overall from the time of submission till we got the OCI card in hand. Your video was really helpful. Hats off for your service 🙏
Thank you so much
@Nataraj, Did you sent hard copy of minor/applicant passport ? With the new rule we don't have to send it right .. just need a confirmation.
@@rupaliahire6857 you mean the original Passport right? No it's not required to send the original Passport.
Hi Suja. Thanks for the detailed video. Just to summarize on the notarization for minors we need to notarize only the parental authorization form and application form right? Been seeing too many confused statements about it and wanted to double check on it. Your the best person to answer this so thought will ask you. Copy of parents Passports and copy of minor PP need to only be self attested?
Thanks for video Suja, im applying for my OCI card and for my son (minor) at the same time. Is there a way to combine the applications? or do i have to fill out 2 separate applications and pay 2 separate fees?
Thanks for the video. It is really helpful. I have one question. Can the OCI application generated with Photo and Fingerprint be printed in Black and White? Thanks
thanks for the informative video. can you please tell if
1. We need to notarize address proof of the parent ?
2. DO we need to take color/black print out of application form ?
Hi Mahesh,
Did you notarize the address proof of the parent?
Hi Suja, thank you for doing this video. It is super helpful.
One question, while uploading the minor's passport copy does it have to be self attested and then uploaded?
Yes ..
I have a doubt, how to notarized the application form and parental authorization form together, only after finishing application we will get the application form to notarize?
Thank you Suja, very informative and appreciate you putting this together. In your video you mentioned minors above 5 years need to sign , is there any consideration for minors with intellectual disabilities ie those who cannot read and write. Can Parent sign or leave blank? Thanks for your time
In that case parents can sign and you can get minor thumb impression.. also get a doctors note stating the reason and submit it along with application
Hello mam, thank you for sharing information. It’s very clear and precise. Just had one doubt, for green card holders also we need i-797?
Also my USA citizen son do not have separate pages for information and photo of passport. They have both on same page. So i will upload only that one passport page?
Green card holders no need submit i797, but please submit permanent residence proof ,
Yes one page is enough to upload
hi suja, what dose it mean by (application?) that need to be authorized...
is the Consent to restore Details form same as application form you mention that need to be notarized along with parental authorization?
Thanks for the video. What should be used to get the thumb impression of the baby girl? Also, Is it the left or right thumb?. 1 more question, if the parents visa is still not stamped, but a valid i797 is present, do we need to submit an i797 copy for the visa part?
Please refer below video for thumb impression
th-cam.com/video/zn5CKEL3XJw/w-d-xo.html
Regarding valid visa - you can submit copy of approved i797
Hi Suja,
Your video really helped me a lot. Thank you very much for your time and effort in recording this. I have shared the video with 2 of my friend they felt it is really helpful.
We have one question, Check list form doesn't have any check boxes other then fee payment & Couriers(earlier form use to have check box for each section) as we are not required to send all documents(ex : Notarized and original name change affidavit is not required in our child case) how can we mention which all documents we are sending along with this application(Just tick mark in the 1st column for applicable sections)?
Just a tick mark should work
Thank you 🙏🏻

Thanks for all the details! Should we have new born left thumb print on passport copies to self attest or can parents self attest? Thanks in advance!
Hi Suja, I have a 7 year old and a 5 year old they both know how to sign their name, do I need to send in their thumb print if their signature is all ready there or not. Also does their signature needs to be notarized or just ours please kindly advise. I live in Utah. there is no notary language on the last page for the signature so they attached another paper can i send that in or does the form itself needs to be notarized. Hello Suja - thanks for your video - I have a quick question, If both the parents are now US citizen (were previously Indian citizen, but by naturalization - now US citizen) - what should we select in "Relation With the Root Indian" - under the "Applicant's Family Details" ? you can choose either of parents and provide parents "cancelled indian passport /oci/renunciation certificate " as a proof
