  • In this part of my review of the Ruger Precision Rimfire Rifle I do my bench testing at 50 yards and then show shooting this Rimfire rifle out to 306 yards at 6" plates and then 412 yards at a steel torso target. You can see the web page version of this review by going to this link:

    THANK YOU! For showing a table of simple, exact target result data for different ammos at distance. Almost no one else does this, it's extremely useful.

      lol… results will vary in your rifle… his results will not be indicative of your expectations. Even if you manage to replicate the environment… BUT it is a good way to collect data for your rifle to help determine your own results…. Why no one else mentioned this three years later and with 40 some likes is laughable. hopefully you figured that out by now…

    Precision training rifle. Exactly what it is! Learning the basics of ballistic and practice in the field. It's the perfect tool for that. Also, thanks for sharing with us this review. I found it very informative, relevant and reliable (witch is not the case of the other reviews that I saw).

      I have the 22wmr....man it is a freaking tackdriver!....I have literally hit empty 22 casings and shot the heads of roofing nails....its a little heavy with the wood stock but accuracy more than makes up for it....I'd like to see one put up against the rpr

    I’ve noticed a few reviews where the mags of the bx15 and upwards are a looser fit. It makes for easier mag changing. However in the reviews I had watched, it was explained that the looser fit, allows the mag to droop on the leading edge, causing bruises on the projectile thus affecting accuracy.

    I can see why you're using UTG mounts. After $490 for a (Burris M-Tac) scope, who can afford high dollar mounts. The CCI Standard Velocity ammo was a good choice. It seems to give me some good results. That was some good shooting. Just ringing the steel would be good enough for me. I just bought a CZ 455 to get into the precision game. I hope I can do as well as you. Good video; "thumbs up" from this Kentucky boy. Thanks foe the video.

    These rifles are awesome with a good scope and a capable shooter who understands how bullets fly . 👍👍. Good guns from Ruger for a while now . The .243 version has been great . They don t make it anymore though so .308 , even better 😝. I love shooting them 2 liters from a ways . They really are pretty accurate at a distance like other good guns but it’s nice to have a gun that you know will hit at a distance .

    Great review. I had just ordered my CZ 455 Precision Trainer when Ruger came out with the RPR or I would of had one myself. Fortunately, I have had the opportunity to shoot the RPR. I have found that my CZ likes Norma TAC 22 or Norma Match which makes me happy since it is a reasonably priced, quality rimfire round. At 25, 50 and 100 yards its been a sub MOA shooter for the most part. At 200 I'm consistently hitting a 4" x 4" steel plate; however my actual groupings on paper average between 3-4 inches. The challenge of reading the wind, knowing your ballistics on a particular rimfire round makes these trainers so useful, especially out to the longer range. You might give the Norma ammo a try. BTW, my CZ also liked the CCI standard. Again, great review and data collection.

    I have also done a lot of BR 22 LR shooting. I settled on the CCI Standard Velocity for practice ammo. If you want the best ammo bar none, Get some of the Federal Gold Medal ULTRAMATCH. I bought Quite a bit, 3 years ago at $7 a box before too many people discovered it. The only place I see it now is Midwestgunworks.com at $18.
    I use an old Remy 4x. A 4 digit serial number from the mid fifties. But also use an Annie, a Cooper, . and Winchester.
    Also you might give some of the 10 bull targets a try.
    Good work.

    The 10 round mag sticking is the result of the nub on the back of the mag is too big in diameter . Take mag apart and put the nub with the axle out in a drill or drill press and with a medium grit hone reduce the diameter of the male nub until it goes into the release button all the way. Go slowly you don’t want to overdo it. Now mine works great in the10/22 and my Ruger American. Discovering this took me many hours of comparing every piece of the red follower mag to the black follower mag. Worth a try.

    Vortex machined precision mounts. Sight mark triple duty 3-14x42. Shooting off bipod with sand bag rear. (Your m-lock screw was too long and was connecting to your barrel. Check for marks. Will explain vertical deviations due to impact on barrel whip/harmonics)
    I was consistent to 375 yards on a 3 inch target. I was using Geco .22lr ammo. I put prob 5k+ rounds down range. Using many different cartridges. CCI always was the gold standard for this rifle. Federal ultra match HV was a close second compared to the Geco match. But out to distances past 100 yards you have to use sub sonic ammo due to the inconsistencies of these light bullets going transonic. That’s why the Greco .22lr in my opinion out performed at ELD style .22lr ranges. Try these out. -clean that bore before

    With my RPR, if you put any rearward pressure on the BX15 mag the front of the mag drops down slightly in the mag well causing the nose of the next round to jam against the mouth of the chamber, jamming the gun, and deforming the bullet. Any thoughts?

    All of us have the same issue when reviewing .22 rimfire rifles----ammunition shortcomings. I have one lot number of Eley Ten-X which shoots bragging size groups. Other lots shoot very good groups---but not as good as this single lot number.. This is common--so much so that ho hum groups are the norm while exceptional groups are "now and then". I had a 10-22 which produced amazing groups with Remington Thunderbolt. Everything else--almost useless. I own a Savage FV-SR which shoots groups which embarrass my friend's $3000 custom built rifles. It is "off the shelf"

    I am trying to decide between a RPRF and a Ruger American heavy barrel in the laminate stock. They are about the same price. BTW we have a .22 Sniper Match with targets starting at 50 yds and going out to 200 yds. 200 yd targets are 4" x 6".

    • @GunsumerReports
      @GunsumerReports  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Joe, which rifle to select may just depend on your overall preference of either a traditional style or pistol grip style rifle. I think they both would produce similar accuracy. There may be a slight advantage with the RPRF due to the adjustable stock and potential to replace the grip if desired. Also, you will probably be able to purchase aftermarket barrels for the RPRF and changing out the barrel is very easy. Hitting a 4"x6" plate at 200 yards should be a piece of cake provided you have good rifle support.

    • @joed3264
      @joed3264 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I will most likely go with the RPRF due to the ease of changing barrels. Waiting to see who comes out with one. Hopefully Lilja or Shilen. The only thing I don't like about the Precision Rifle is the flat bottom on the rear portion of the stock. That is not good for shooting off a rear bag. It would be hard to make elevation adjustments by sliding the bag back and forth. OTOH what the heck do I know? Ranger Class 5-70 Sniper.

    Why is your rear scope ring so far forward? You've got plenty of picatinny rail behind the ring and the scope has a clear 2 inches where you can slide the ring back for more and better stability... wtf am I missing here besides you just did it for the looks to match the front ring placement...

    Mine drops every 10 rd mag I feed it...knock on wood hasn't let me down yet.
    I do think my barrel is defective though. I cant get a single type of LR to group less than 3 inch.
    Same mags same types of ammo in my 10/22 and I get sub 1/2 moa groups...so I know it's not me lol

      Let me also note here in (explicit) NY I can only use 10 round mags

    Most of those are exceptional groups from a Ruger Precision .22. Most of them will not produce these groups--usually the groups would be twice this size

    Excuse me.if I'm wrong but doesnt this rifle absolutely come ready for a bipod? That what m lok is for. I think you misspoke. You said you had to add m lok to mount the bipod. Did you mean you had to add a pic rail?
    Just making sure before I buy this. But it's my understanding m lok is just modern day pic rail. All you had to do was buy an m lok bipod. I could be wrong though and that's why I'm asking. Want to make sure this purchase is one I absolutely want to make before I make it.
    Thank you!

      If you have or buy an M-Lok Bipod you just need to attach it to the handguard. If you have a bipod that is picatinny then you need to buy a short M-Lok to Picatinny converter and install that on the handguard, then add your pica bipod. That is what I had to do the other day with my new RPR.

    My RPR is the most accurate rifle I have had. 50 yards with Center X, R50 or Federal Match..all holes touching. It doesn't like Tennex or anything by CCI. Go figure.
