Polishing Minor Scratches From Windshield, Remove Hard Water Deposits From Glass!! P & S CLARITY!!

  • In todays video, I share my experience with P&S Clarity. There is nothing worse than seeing your car covered in water spots! It's unfortunate that we can't prevent rain or sprinklers from staining our cars with those pesky spots... Not only are they ugly to look at, but they cause vision problems while driving, making driving slightly more dangerous. Here is something to consider from P&S.
    DIRECTIONS:
Wash and clay glass if necessary.
For light duty polishing, use by hand with microfiber towels.
For medium duty cleaning and beyond, use a machine paired with a foam or wool pad, depending upon severity.
Polish using overlapping pattern, either by hand or by machine, until glass is restored to original condition.
    Repeat as necessary.
Once complete, allow for polish to dry to haze and polish to a bright finish.

Polishing out light imperfections or contaminates is very possible. You would need to get very aggressive for heavy scratches. Not something I advise.

Now here's something ya don't see everyday. I'd much rather do that on the exterior windows than just cleaning the inside windows. Especially the rear windows on older cars that have a big ole deck a couple feet deep. That blows. Excellent window guy you are. Something to add to your resume.
    Thanks Brian!

Great video. Thanks for the information. This is probably the best, most informative video on window polishing that I have come across. Quick, to the point with no random talking etc. I recognize the glass cleaner and that is what I swear by when cleaning my car glass. You should post a link to it if you get affiliate money. Plus, its great to see you have your helpers, including the black and white dog. You can never go wrong with a dog in the video.

Just finished getting a deeper scrape like scratch out of my windshield. Used Carpro Ceri Glass and their glass pad. It took about an hour and a half with good pressure and constantly spraying the glass with water on hand close by, but I finally got it out. If you're going after a bad scratch be prepared to spend some time on it and expend some elbow grease.

@@EireFirst2024 I don't really have anything to compare it against as that's the only thing I tried. It was a fairly coarse compound that seemed to do its job. One thing I'd spray my work area with water to keep the heat down as I worked and I found the product would kind of come back and give me more work time after I thought it was done.

An easy way to get water spots off glass is to use an acid cleaner. Unfortunately, it leaves behind a smeary mess that clings to glass like nothing else … usually have to polish it off anyway. So while I do NOT recommend acid on glass, literally any light polish will work. P&S seem to have come up with a “least aggressive” approach here, I like it.
Brian has a wonderful technique for pretty much all aspects of detailing, but him stressing the importance of prep-work is so key to understanding a detailer’s job. Prep is like 50% of the work, skipping these steps will result in half-assed results. Even something as basic as taping off trim and/or weather stripping, I see a lot of detailers avoid it … there are reasons we still do this. Non-staining, low dust or no dust products do not save you from hitting it with a pad. It’s called mitigating risk.

That's some super clean glass. Did you clean the wiper blades? Blades catch and hold a lot of grime, so it would seem to make sense to at least wipe the wiper blades with a cleaner. I use Invisible Glass and wipe with microfiber towels that I then throw away. Your thoughts?

Hello… okay, just a private car owner, but I gave this a go (watched the original vid too). Wow, this was work, too embarrassed to say how long it took. Got out some deep scratches from a wiper running without the blade attached. Except the very deepest, it got them all out. BUT… I have a lot of fine little swirl scratches that becomes apparent at night when driving under any street light. What can I do to remove these? Well, after the new coating wares off, lol. I actually hurt from the work 😂

To improve the clarity of your winshield you have to improve your technique. Polish 50x50cm spot using new felth pad and cerium based polish. Work the polish in with mediun to hard press force to diminish particle size of the polish. After 8-10 passes, while constantly spraying water to lube the pad and beeing carefull not to get the glass hot, wash your pad, spin it to get the water out and polish again. I recomend one new felth pad for half of windscreen. The cleaner you keep the felth pad, the best clarity you will get. You will get to a good clarity with a lot of elbow grease, the lights won't bother you in the night, but polishing will make windshield pitting (small rock chips) worse. Best advice is to save your money from buying these products and replace your windshield. I got into this after i've seen somone (chemicalguys) using regular polish and pad to "clean" the windshield. I've tried it andI've managed to put a lot of scratches in it. I was so upset at the time, just got the car...

There are many excellent coatings but I've had great luck with Griot's Glass Sealer...make sure your glass is super clean (I usually do a wash with regular car soap and water or ONR, then a real solid go round with Invisible Glass and a good quality glass microfiber) and then apply as directed. I've gotten 6 and 7 months out of it on vehicles that live outdoors 24/7. Partnered with Rain-X windshield washer fluid, it's a killer combination that will both keep your windshield from getting carved up with scratches, but also make it easier to see and extend the life of your wipers dramatically.
