Make sure to watch the disclaimer and only try this if you're fine with the risk of making the damage worse. I repair scratched glass for a living and see failed DIY attempts that end up requiring a professional to come fix. Be careful!
Usually, these miracle fixes on internet NEVER work. Dang! Yours did! Arm and Hammer toothpaste with baking soda got rid of some horrible scratches in some almost new windows. You're a life saver! Thanks so much! :)
Having had some experience polishing some glass I will say that most of the 'scratches' that people want to remove can't be. Especially if it's deep enough to catch your fingernail on. You're not going to 'polish' away that much glass. In most cases what you're able to do is 'obscure' the scratch by smoothing out or polishing the rough peaks in the 'channel' or valley of the scratch so it won't refract the light. I use jewelers rouge sometimes and it also depends how hard or soft the glass is. Unless you use a machine polisher, with these light abrasives by hand you'll be working on it a while, which is safe but tedious.
Indeed, glass is really hard and you polish it with something really gentle. Success will depend on depth of the scratch and dedication. Thanks for the feedback.
Was very sceptical of the claims here. And rightly so. NONE of them work of course. Even superficial scratches remain after trying ALL the methods indicated.
Oh my gosh...this works! I have some old Victorian brooches with scratches....which is understandable because they are over 200 years old. I just got one pristine! I'm so impressed! :P
I have tried the toothpaste method on a glass coffee table. Repeated the process 3 times hasn't removed the scratch completely but has definitely made it less noticeable to the eye, actually i can barely see it you have to examine the table up close to see the scratch may repeat this again and see if it disappears completely.
I gave all 3 methods a shot on my glass watch face. Unfortunately, none of them worked probably cause it was a pretty deep scratch. The good thing is that none of the methods damaged the glass either. So I'm glad I gave them a shot.
All right, here is a response. I scratched my car's side glass from inside. Baking soda removed %70 of it, the rest is almost unnoticeable. I spent a couple of minutes, rubbing very gently with a really thick and soft cloth in multiple layers.
Yeah I stupidly cleaned off a stubborn sticker residue on the inside of my car windscreen with sticky stuff remover and a metal washing up ball (silly thinking it wouldn’t scratch), so will try this! I should have used my nail or green side of a sponge I know now…
Wow!! I had housecleaners in today, who have always done a great job, and when they left I noticed not a smudge, but a scratch on my bathroom mirror! I was pretty upset. I just went in and tried the first solution, a bit of toothpaste on a microfiber towel, rubbed for about 20 seconds, and it was gone. I can't see it at all anymore. I am THRILLED. Thank you so much! Just for anyone's information, I used my nanohydroxyapatite toothpaste, originally developed by NASA, as I understand, and the first thing it does in your mouth is heal cracks. I know it's worked in my mouth to heal tiny fractures in my teeth, so I'm not surprised it worked on my mirror.
they work by gently sanding down the glass back to one smooth surface. Phones have really thin glass, so its not ideal. And glasses usually have special coatings that could make it difficult.
Hey I'm trying to clean old fish tank glass from a broken tank. It's been sitting a while. I took tooth paste and actually added baking soda and went with a actual buffer pad since I'm cleaning a few feet worth of semi deep scratches. I see you are able to get some similar depth scratches out with just a cloth. Are scratches easier to get out of certain types of glass? Like tempered VS non tempered? Low iron, or regular, etc? I'm having a heck of a time hah. Needed a break 45m with the buffer didn't make a dent... I'll try the steel wool method haven't tried that yet. A deep scratch is one that catches the nail. The kind of scratch I have to fix is more of an abrasion. It was caused by my brother sliding a heavy glass pane over the other glass pane. Thanks for sharing. I'll give the first two a shot and be as gentle as possible. Metal polish sounds scary to me as a first timer because that stuff is pretty strong.
Remember that you are using something that only gently scrubs against something that is really hard (yes glass is hard!). If the scratch is too deep (i.e. catches the nail, the repair work may take hours of polishing... so going to mechanical + pro products may be the recommended way). If starches are not too deep, start small, , do not overdo it, be patient, regularily check for progress... and repeat. Good luck!

Hi Amanda, the first thing to check is how deep the scratch is. If it catches a nail, then polishing it back to a smooth surface will take a lot of time (remember we are rubbing something really gentle - not to create additional scratches - against something really hard). At the end of the video, I have listed other products that professional repair guys use to fix deeper scratches. Hope it works out for you.

Guess this is why it didn’t work on my car. Have a fine scratch from some grit of something that must have been in the wiper when on, as follows wiper line, but only like a 10-15cm scratch, not the full span, which is odd… Which begs the question, if the glass is so tough, why did it scratch? Can only see it when light hits it right, so unsure what could have done it. Only when the car was like 3 months old too. Annoying! But yes the toothpaste and sodium bicarbonate didn’t work! Won’t try the other methods in case makes worse

If the scratch catches on your nail, this is bad news. Depending on the depth, this can easily be 30 minutes of polishing using professional cerium oxide based product and a powertool buffer... also too much polisihing will carve the glass and make it thinner (more prone to break...)
Why cant i see the scratches both before or after?? And how come i can rub the scratches on my glass with full on rubbing compound for hours and still see the scratch? Toothpaste works for plastic by hand but glass needs a buffer or something..
you can see scratches because elbow grease is nothing, you need machine to do that (heat + fritcion + cerium oxide + felt pad) is thing that works, glass is very hard...so from big to small: 180mm rotary machine pad, 80mm pad for drill, and tons of dremel pads 20-35mm or even less, so you can pretty much polish any glass area

Hey Uncle Rick, sorry to read you had no luck fixing your sliding door. Fixing scratches depends a lot on the nature / deepth of the scratch: the deeper the scratch, the more polishing/grinding time needed (just like sanding wood). While with sanding wood we can accelerate the process by choosing a low grid, this is not possible with glass since would create extra scratches: so imagine sanding wood with 4000 grid, how long would that take.... in your case, the next step (if still looking for one) could be to investigate Cerium oxide based glass polishing products coupled with power tools. This is what pros typically use in glass renovation but is NOT part of a standard toolbox. Also, even going for this option, be sure to NOT overdo it or you may even create a bow in the glass. So all about small progress, check, small progress, check again and never overdo it. Hope that helps!

Hi, so was cleaning my oven inside... and on the glass window inside had a bunch of caked on grease marks I was able to get off but by scrubbing it with a dish washing pad... it left a bunch of scratches all over the glass, will this method work? The scratches aren’t deep just vivid enough where when I turn on the light inside the oven I see a bunch of swirl marks from the circle motion of the scrubbing I did.
Yes, the deeper the scratches the more difficult to remove (well the more time it takes to polish in fact). It sounds superficial, so give it a try. Just be careful to often check for progress as your work and not overdo it (or just like the sponge, you may create more scratches). Good luck!
I think it has to be very very fine grade , I tried getting water stains out w/ one of those green scouring pads thinking it wouldn’t be harmful 🤦🏼♂️ now I have scratches all over all of my windows. Couldn’t see them when I was doing it so I thought it was fine. I gotta figure something out it’s driving me nuts
One pro tip that I discovered MYSELF: If you have circular scratches, DO NOT TRY TO Rub WITH A CIRCULAR MOTION. Why daddy? Because you will make the scratches even worse and deeper and harder to remove. What’s the solution daddy? The solution is easy and fast which and I will show you who’s the boss: 1. If the scratches are circular, then do not rub in a circular motion. Rub in a vertical motion for more than 2 minutes straight and less than 5 minutes then in a horizontal motion for more than 2m and less than 5m, why daddy? Because if you rub too much straightly you will end up messing the work you’ve done WITHOUT knowing. (and make sure to check the progress if you feel uncomfortable) 2. If the scratches are horizontal, then rub vertically. Why daddy? If you rub a horizontal scratch horizontally you may scratch the scratch deeper and make it harder to remove. 3. If the scratches are vertical, then rub horizontally . Why daddy? If you rub a vertical scratch vertically you may scratch the scratch deeper and make it harder to remove. 4. The same with tilted scratches like half horizontal and half vertical scratch, just reverse the ways. (If it’s vertical, rub horizontally. Or if it’s horizontal, rub vertically)
Guys, this works but on very very shallow scratches, i had 2 very small scratches on my pc side glass panel from my backup radiator, that i wont be using ever again !!! I rubbed with toothpaste 5 times and baking soda 2 times, it went away, i cannot notice it anymore, unless i take it out and put flashlight on it from a certain angle and even then its hard to spot.
I got a few big scratches on my passenger window from someone hitting it with a rock. Nothing is cleaning it up. 😢 i just want the dirt/paint looking marks gone. I know the scratches will remain. Just want to clean it up.
Please help me. I have a glass beaker with some scratches on outer side. I am going to do laser experiment on it and want to make it clear. Any suggestion?

Yes, the deeper the scratches the more difficult to remove (well the more time it takes to polish in fact). It sounds superficial, so give it a try. Just be careful to often check for progress as your work and not overdo it (or just like the sponge, you may create more scratches). Good luck!
Using steel wool on my windshield is the reason I’m watching this video!!😂😂
I think it has to be very very fine grade , I tried getting water stains out w/ one of those green scouring pads thinking it wouldn’t be harmful 🤦🏼♂️ now I have scratches all over all of my windows. Couldn’t see them when I was doing it so I thought it was fine. I gotta figure something out it’s driving me nuts
So you're saying that if I take toothpaste and a microfiber cloth, I can get scratches off my phone?
👀 Did it work?
Great video in your oppion which is the best method for removing scratches on your windows
#0000 steel wool, go gently or you will create more scratches, check regularly for progress, can sill take some time!
@@TheLabOtomy should you wet it or rub dry?
@@mllk12 i want to know this to , how did you do in the end and what result did you get?
One pro tip that I discovered MYSELF:
If you have circular scratches, DO NOT TRY TO Rub WITH A CIRCULAR MOTION. Why daddy? Because you will make the scratches even worse and deeper and harder to remove. What’s the solution daddy? The solution is easy and fast which and I will show you who’s the boss:
1. (and make sure to check the progress if you feel uncomfortable)
Nice

do you try it or do you find another technique? because my fish tank has scratches too from the inside.
@@berylalfarez2723 did you succeed and which method did you use?I too have lots of scratches inside the fish tank
