- The artist known as Jelly Roll is a 39-year-old former rapper whose songs tell of the troubled life he used to lead. He's now one of the biggest names in country music, with two Grammy nominations this year. With correspondent Kelefa Sanneh, we go with Jelly Roll to one of the jail cells he lived in, where he wrote songs and hatched his plans to make it in music-eventually finding himself on the "holy ground" of Nashville's Grand Ole Opry. In the last seven months my wife and I have come alongside a 22-year-old we’ve known for years from a distance. She was essentially a shut-in, trapped in a tragic household with no life skills to move forward and no one that believed in her. In the last few months she has worked alongside me many times (I’m a one man show contractor) and volunteered one or two days a week with my wife at a non-profit. She is a GREAT kid. Wednesday she starts a permanent job. Tomorrow we will give her the title to a 2003 so the can get to the job. It has been amazing to see her come out of her scared anxious shell. Someday I hope her parents have the bandwidth to believe in their daughter.

We all have a future (even if we don’t know how long) I pray that you continue in your faith, and you allow it to take over in ALL you do and that platform that the Lord has given you becomes one of the largest platforms for the Love of Christ and the changes the Holy Spirit makes in the saved that there has EVER been. Thanks for the inspiration JR....I'm 50yrs old been pursing music since '91 i hope someday to make it my career, i know that sounds crazy but I've paid thousands upon thousand of dues I think I've earned it. I've never been in and out of jail but i've def. had a rough upbringing and a past of alcoholism and major life mistakes I had to overcome....i'll always enjoy music even if I'm playing for an empty room but it would be nice to finally catch a big break🙏
