Matt, another great informative video. Just a couple of questions. 1) If you sell your HD with an existing warranty, does the warranty carry over to the new owner or do you have to sell the warranty before selling your bike? 2) Are the warranties the same with a new HD and a used HD? I would think not but would you explain the differences between the two? Thank you in advance for your answers.
The original 2 year factory warranty always follows the bike no matter how many times it changes hands. The extended service plan can be transferred to a new owner by filling out a form within 30 days of ownership transfer. However, most owners opt to cancel the ESP and get a pro-rated refund back. A used bike that is more than 2 years old from date it was originally sold has no warranty unless an extended service plan (esp) is purchased. That service plan is good for the person who bought the plan. It doesn’t transfer to a new owner unless the a transfer form is filled out. The form can be obtained through a dealer. When a used bike is purchased at a dealer they should offer you an esp on the bike assuming it’s eligible (No more than 11 model years old and no more than 75k miles on the odometer).
You probably dont care but if you are stoned like me during the covid times then you can watch pretty much all of the new movies and series on Instaflixxer. Been watching with my brother for the last months :)
I am not a HD owner, but you have done more for the brand than any other dealership that i know of. With HD making better bikes I have tuned more to your channel for insight and information. Thanks for the time and investment you put into your channel.
Bought a used Harley, and my motor blew up on the way home. I had the extended warranty, and got it fixed for no charge to me. Boy am I glad I bought it!!!
This ESP with Wheel/Tire Warranty is the truth. Definitely has saved me on a few occasions out of town. I have had two tires replaced, along with some other mechanical parts under this plan. I purchased my bike used and this plan is worth every penny. I'm sad that I may not be able to extend it since I will be out of the terms for extension but definitely put my mind at ease the last 5 years.
Hello Matt, First of all, this video has to be the Finest you ever produced! I do not find this topic boring! In fact I had to go back and listened to your comments 3 times so it all sunk in! The timing of this video could not have been more perfect as I am still looking at new Harley’s and have not pulled the trigger yet. One thing I am finding out is my local dealers are not as honest and forthright as you are! So far I have been dealing with outright false advertising just to get me in the door. All they did was succeed in pisssing me off and I bolted out the door! Thank you Matt for laying out the warranty details out plainly and thoughtfully. I now feel more confident and much better informed regarding my warranty options and protection strategy. I am so disappointed with the disrespectful sales tactics (all they ask is how much of a monthly payment I can afford) and try to hide the out the door price! The last thing they wanted to hear was I intend to pay cash. I walked out pissed! Folks in California don’t know how blessed they are to have a dealer like you available to them! Take care and have a great New Year!
One of the most difficult purchasing topics to deal with, and yet very well explained. Thanks so much. Certainly appreciate your candor and detail in all your videos, Matt. Keep up the good work!
This was not boring at all. Actually, very timely info. Thank you for taking the time to explain all the details and the heads up about asking to make sure it's an actual H-D offer. Much appreciated.
On my used 08 street glide I got the 5 year unlimited mileage extended warranty. I knew I was going to rack up the miles so I knew it would pay out. I put 150k miles during that time and it played for 2 transmission rebuilds, primary rebuild, engine rebuild, shock replacement, and all the little things here and there that brake from vibration. I'm in the minority...but it was nice to get some minor work done and just say "fix anything you find under warranty "
Great vid again Matt, update, the only way around my voided M8 warranty is for me to buy a new Ecm and load the factory settings, I only have 700 miles on it, but since I installed an FP3 they said once they plug it in, it's voided regardless if I reset it back to a factory map, the original ecm hold that info.
Matt in the past I have dogged your channel, I have to apologized, for your clarity is great, oem Warranty is what we need ! Hats 🎩 off for your honesty and helping people enjoy 😉 their bike !!! ✌🏻….
I know this video is a few years old but I hope you see this Matt, I'm seriously about to drive down to SoCal from NorCal when I'm ready to buy my HD. Thanks for all the great content and information.
Thanks Matt, I bought a used cvo at a dealer with a 5 year extended warranty and wheel and tire coverage. Yes expensive. But the bike has 43000 miles on it. Hopefully I don’t have to use it but if I do, it will pay for itself, thanks for the info it’s exactly what was explained to me at the dealership.
I purchased the Extended Warranty, I’m wondering what is the repair you see the most that uses it. I’m still on the fence about keeping it. Thanks for a great information video Matt! Always great content from you!
There’s a dealer here in Texas offering a lifetime warranty on the new bikes. I imagine it’s a third party warranty. Love the inside information 🤘🏻 Thanks Matt.
When i had engine problems (dealership claimed my engine was cooked but my bike had full power) so they claimed, the dealership blamed it on my quiet baffles and revoked my warranty. I bought 5 brand new Harleys and Ducati from this same dealership (Frasers Motorcycles Dianella in Perth) since 2013, yet they treated me like a dog - Harley went along with them and didn't honor my warranty. Furthermore I've also spent over $100,000 in parts and services with them and you'd think they would bend over backwards to help me? They also said I do not have warranty because i did a stage 5 on my bike - they claimed I got a race engine eventhough they did the work for me - before i handed over the money for the work they told me i got 12 months warranty on the parts. i will never buy Harleys again but i love your channel regardless. I guess my comment will get deleted to hide Harley Davidson's dishonesty.
I don’t delete comments. Sorry you had that experience. It’s hard for me to even begin to comment because I don’t have all the information. It’s too bad HD lost a rider though.
Great information warranty video Matt! My 16 FLSS Has warranty till 2022 😎 And all of the parts I added onto my bike even though I could have put it in myself I went to the dealer to have it install so it wouldn’t void my warranty. And now watching this video you made makes me feel better that I had everything installed at the H-D dealer..
Saving this video, as I plan on getting a Harley. This is some valuable information that will empower me with the knowledge needed to make an educated purchase. Thanks for sharing this knowledge.
Matt I love your videos brother. I’ve been following you for awhile now but just bought my first bike yesterday . 2022 EGS. I did purchase the 4 year extended warranty because I feel like it’s better to have it and not needed the the other way around. Thanks for the content I always get value from it. 🤘🤘
The has been by far one of the best vids I've seen you do and explain. So much valuable information within this video. Ive always watched your vids as I plan to become a Harley owner for the first time this year. You have been so resourceful and I truly appreciate the info you share. I do and will watch this over and over again to fully know and understand. Keep up the great work..🤘
Thank you for the clarification, still a relevant video and information. Question, does the warranty pay the dealership less for the same repairs then if the customer pays cash?
In April 2019 I purchased a used 2017 Road Glide Ultra that sill had factory warranty until July 3, 2019. While doing my research about extended warranty I came across this video. I went to my local HD dealership inquired about purchasing a 3 year extended warranty. And $1500 later I had a contract that said I had a warranty on my bike until July 3, 2022. I took my bike to that same dealership last week because I have leaking fork seals and problems with my compression releases not working properly. 2 days later I was informed that the dealership checked the 3 year warranty for a NEW bike purchase and my "extended" warranty expired on July 3, 2020 and the estimated cost of $2800 to repair my bike would have to come out of my pocket. I contacted Harley Motor Corp and they are NOT willing to do anything to help me. So, I have to suffer the financial burden because the dealership made a mistake? I guess this is how a multi billion dollar company treats their customers.
I decided to keep my wonderful 2019 CVO road glide,,,just love it! This will be the first time in my 55 years of riding I've ever bought an extended warranty,,,I've always traded to stay in warranty and fresh tires. I also added the tire and wheel coverage. If nothing else,,it will make me keep this bike for 5 more years. I did call 3 dealers and yes I was sure to ask for only the genuine Harley Davidson extended warranty , two were the same, but one was $300 more!!! Glad I did the checking first because my local dealership that I've purchased 6 motorcycles from was the high one and they would not match the other dealers!! So I'll not be buying anything else from them,,,,so greedy!!! Ocala Fl.
Hi Matt, Thank you for Another great video! I purchased my new HD about six month ago, and my only regret is that I found your channel after my purchase. Recently I did my first service but decided to use a motorcycle mechanic shop instead of the dealer. My question is if this: does getting maintenance service outside the dealership void or effect the factory warranty?
If you purchase a used bike which still has the original 2 year warranty and the ESP extended warranty then it is necessary to send in a transfer request form along with $25.00 to the Harley Service Center P.O. Box 2840 Scottsdale, AZ 85252. Some folks are under the mistaken impression that the ESP warranty automatically stays with the bike and transfers to the new owner. Secondly, you should have your dealer transfer Harley's ownership records to your name so that any recall notifications will come to your address and the original 2 year warranty will be in your name. It also helps to obtain a copy of the original ESP contract so that you know the terms of your coverage, and the service records with the SWR so that any modifications made by the dealer in the first 60 days are covered under the full term of the ESP. Lastly, if you have upgraded your HOG roadside assistance plan to "HOG Ultra Plus", then there will be some over lapping of coverage, as both plans provide similar break down support.
I appreciate your videos; always thorough on each topic covered. I’ve been around a while, so I’m pretty familiar with the new/used vehicle purchasing and warranty processes. With that, I’ve recently purchased my first Harley - LOVE the bike - 2020 Street Glide Special!! I’ve had to discover a lot of information nearly by happenstance while researching or viewing these informative clips provided by you and some of the other reputable H-D vbloggers...while just trying to familiarize myself with the brand. The information provided by my local dealership has been subpar at best, if not completely non-existent on several details about the product. There needs to be a Laidlaw-type in South Texas. Thanks again for sharing and for being consistent.
Big point too is LOOK THE BIKE OVER FOR PAINT FLAWS BEFORE YOU TRIP THE CURB. Once you roll away it's on you. Technically Harley Davidson has washed their hands of any paint flaws once the dealership accepts the unit. It is on the customer to find flaws (scratches, fisheyes, debris in clear, runs, big orange peel) prior to delivery.
Also keep in mind if you live in bad climate weather areas what good is a 2-year warranty when you don't get to ride in the winter time really bad weather so a lot of it gets eaten up not even being used should be a mileage only
Matt great infomercial, I have the ESP along with the Tire and Wheel Package on my Ultra and Softail. Worth every penny. Never had an issue with repairs or tire replacement. Just need to point out Harley does have a minimum tire tread requirement for coverage. All the guys I ride with get it also. I have a stage 1 on both bikes download was done at my local Harley dealer.
True. Thanks for the comment. I should have mentioned that. The tire must have 3/32 of an inch or more to be eligible for replacement. If you run your tire down and get use of the life of the tire then it’s no longer covered.
I bought a 2019 limited in Dec I told the dealer what I wanted to do to the bike Change the mufflers putting a header on putting a stag 3 kit in it I was unaware that this would void my warranty I've had the bike for two months I've been having problems check engine lights on The bike runs great I know if they hook it up to the computer it will void My question is what should I do If I new that I could not take off the catalytic converter I would have never bought the bike Having that on the bike it literally burns you off the bike I feel as if I was mislead And if that doesn't make me mad AH THEY SOLD ME A EXTENDED WARRANTY THAT IS WORTHLESS I spent over 35 thousand dollars on this bike
Matt, thank you for all your hard work and dedication to your channel. I wish I still lived in OC, I'd be buying a bike from you today! I hesitate to work with the dealers that are in my local area. They do a complete disservice to HD who I can tell are trying to right the ship. Laidlaw HD is a major asset to the brand and the legacy of HD. Peace!
Thank you Matt 👍 ... I had to watch this a second time as I'm going thru the process of getting acquainted with this whole H-D world. Appreciate the correct and well articulated information on here. 😎
I agree with the last comment, I do not own a Harley either but, when I am ready to buy witch I hope is soon!... I will be visiting your dealership first. Thanks for all the info
Great info. Gess im good. Just did a 5 year on my 2016 roadster purchased 9/20/16 today. 1500.00 with tax. Has stage 1.all work has been done by dealer. Clips on side cover only warrenty work its needed.
Matt, this video is amazing. I purchased an Extended Service Contract on my 2011 Ultra Classic, and had to to make a claim. It was well worth the purchase! Question: If I purchase a used bike from a Harley Dealership that has a Dynajet Power Commander Tuner, and pipes..... all of which I believe may have been installed by Harley, as the previous owner was religious about using the dealership down to oil changes....... Is the exhaust and/or tuner covered under that contract?
@@MattLaidlaw subbed your channel, lots of good info! the storm trooper bike is awesome: I have a vstar 1100 that has a full imperial mural, a boba fett bust, silver leafing and a bunch of other art work. never finished the "death star 1100". The harley dealership I purchased my flhtcu from loved it!
First, thank you so much Matt for all your reviews and informative videos. Really appreciated. Could we have part 2 to this informative video. ? The extended warranty, what does it offer more on top of the original 2year warranty? Any benefits such as a loaner, hotel, expenses?? Is it transferable if I sell the bike ? Is warranty Valid world wide ??
Hey Matt. I have one of those POS 15 XG750s. Early production. When my bike was in the Dealership Service Dept. for a faulty N Light, I purchased the 2 year extension. In the first 2 years ownership, Has been in the shop for about 3 months. For Oil Leaks(Rear cylinder cover, Twice), Faulty N Switch. And a few minor issues. Only reason I bought the Warranty is, I still have payments. When I hit 12k Miles, Was cleaning the bike on a jack. Spun the rear wheel. Heard a Loud Metallic Squeak coming from the belt side. Which somehow cleared itself up. I traded a 3 year old Yamaha Majesty with almost 15k, Only had 1 problem. Faulty fuel pump. Replaced under the factory warranty. Any word on when the new Custom 1200 is coming out? I'd like to try one. And be done with the nightmare child. My Dealer Screwed me. Charged me $84 to change the Oil(No filter) to fix the N Light switch. After the Tech replaced the switch. Which took 2 weeks. And the 3rd week was the oil change.
Sorry you had problems man. I think everyone has their horror stories of some type of breakdown. Are you talking about the XL1200C? That bike is already out. The 2018 1200 Custom? Are you talking about a different bike?
Great Video. So since I did the 3 year, I am getting the 2 year that comes with the bike and one additional year? Good to know. I thought I was purchasing 3 years that start once the 2 year is over.
What a Great Video Matt. Wish I would have known all this in Jan. 2017. Bought a new S.G.S. and didn't know about the extended warranty. I did ask about the warranty and was told it was 2 years and then I could extend it. Now I find out other wise. Dam.
Thank you again! Great video. A minor point much of the HD original gear I have ie riding gear, is also under warranty for sometimes the life of the garment. And yes it works. (Reference Switzerland)
Good info, wish I would have done this on my 2011 CVO with 15,000 miles. But then I work overseas and would just be buying an ESP that counts down without benefits. Had the 7 year plan, used it once.
Thanks for the info, Matt. great video. i just bought a 2014 Wide Glide and got the extended service plan with it. my question is, do i have to get all of my service (such as oil changes, break fluid, etc.) done at the Harley dealership to maintain the validity of the service plan?
Thanks for the in depth warranty and extended service plan. As said a lot of dealers do not explain or it is because they don't know or care. If your dealership was near me i would be purchasing a new bike. Again thanks.
How much difference is there between the original purchase warranty drom the extended? Also why say your purchasing a 3 or 7 year warranty on a new bike when when its actually a 1 and 5? It makes absolutely no sense to me why pay for a warranty ON TOP of an existing warranty. I love HD quality but I also don't like throwing money away. I bought a used 2014 FLXH last march and shelled out $3,300 for the 5 year ESP. So far I only used about $250 for a replacement switch pack. Humm, I'm kinda hoping something big breaks before it expires.
Hi Matt, nice informative video. I just bought a 2020 brand new Harley and opted for the extended warranty. Its an HD warranty, looks just like the one in this video. I wasn't going to buy it but I got the 5 year (actually 3 year extended) plan for $950. For $317/year its a no brainer. For that price it tells me that the bike is very reliable! Question - I don't like the HD Boom Audio so, if I install an aftermarket stereo system and do the work myself and the job is 100% correct, will that void my warranty?
Very helpful thanks for sharing, 2016 freewheeler with 6700 miles 3yr esp 3yr screaming eagle 3yr tire and rim 16000,is it a good deal plus warranty Only mods Vance Hines slip-ons
I purchased a harley motorcycle from a dealer in Aug 2018 with a dealer installed vance and Hines tuner. They sold me the 3 yr extended service plan . Now the warranty coverage is coming to an end I went to another dealership to extend the warranty and was told that It cant be warrantied with the tuner and that the other dealership should not have sold the warranty because this tuner voids any Harley warranties . They also told me that I should ask the original dealership for a refund. What should I do ?
Hey Matt - great video! Quick question: I’m picking up a used 2018 Fat Boy (4500 miles) tomorrow from an H-D dealership. They told me the manufacturers warranty expired in Sept 2019. However, since I’m purchasing a used bike through an authorized dealer, I should be able to get the Harley ESP at the time of purchase, right? Also, do I also have 60 days from date of purchase to get, say, a Stage 2 installed and it be covered under ESP (the bike already has the Stage I installed)? Thanks in advance.
I am a first time HD buyer. That said I am buying a used bike 2016 with only 4000 miles on it. NOT a scratch, well maintained by a HD dealer. Can I buy a genuine HD warranty for it?
Matt : I just bought about 2 weeks ago a 2018 low rider awesome bike I payed cash for the bike to avoid payments, nice right !!!! but now you have me thinking . about the extended warranty and tire and wheel coverage now being tapped out of cash lol . If I wanted the the extended warranties and say also purchased a stage 2 or 3 upgrade at the same time would Harley finance the purchase of the upgrade and the warranty ....
Yes, especially if you had 100% of the value of the bike as a down payment. That is Nice btw. Unfortunately you can write a new loan on it now that the transaction is complete. You can put the warranty on a payment plan at 0% for 12-18 months depending on how many years you purchase. You can possibly get a HD credit card and put the engine work on that. You may or may not get approved with a high enough limit to cover it.
Matt, I’m pretty sure I understand you right as to what voids a warranty. Just be sure, as you well know there are very few slip-ons for the 2018 Sport Glide. Harley doesn’t even make one. Tab exhaust has one, but it’s not legal in all fifty states from what I understand. So wouldn’t that void my factory warranty if I had it installed? Any advice is greatly appreciated.
Matt, this info was very informative especially since this will be my first motorcycle, I'm going with a 2016 Street Bob only has 1400 miles, hopefully picking it up from the local HARLEY dealer on Wednesday. Any advice?
Great video Matt! Couple of questions: could a warranty be transferred to a new bike - that is when for example I am trading-in or simply buying a new HD at the dealership having sold the current bike. And another - can I sell the bike with the warranty altogether to the new owner, without hassling for a refund? Thanks a bunch!
well thats kinda frustating. So i bought the SE coverage for nothing then because this was something I played to do WAY later doing the torque cam but now it almost sounds like I am better off doing a better cam?
Matt, I upgraded last summer from a 2016 48 to a 2016 street Bob. My question is this: when I traded in my 48 I never cancelled my esp. Can I call the dealer now 9 months later and cancel for reimbursement or transfer it to my 2016 street Bob?.....thanx
a few weeks ago I bought a 2015 Vrod from a HD dealership down In Florida , they talked me into buying a five year planed maintenance agreement cost $1700 . I live In VA and visited my local HD dealership In Richmond and showed them the maintenance plan that I had bought , they told me they haven't supported this plan In years and neither did the other HD dealerships In Richmond . I Immediately called the dealership I bought the maintenance plan from and asked them what the hell did they sell me , I got both dealerships to talk to each other to try to find a solution my local HD dealership said they would call me back with an answer they never did ( gives me a lot of confidence for the future ) I called the dealership I bought the plan from and cancelled It . I think I should have stuck with Triumph .
Hey Matt, Question about HD Extended Warranty. The Ads say it makes the bike worth more. But when I spoke to a HD dealer about trading my 15 Street 750 for a 1200, The Salesman told me to go back to where I bought it, And ask for a Prorated refund. Have you heard of this before? I purchased the 2 Additional Year while still under the factory warranty. In fact, My Street was in the shop for a N Light malfunction (3 weeks). Got scared and bought it. Thank you. Chris
Where can I find a copy of the HD Extended Service Plan (ESP) on the web so that I can actually read it before speaking with someone. I can't seem to find it on the HD website. Why would they make it so difficult for their customers to find and read before making a motorcycle purchase?
Thanks! Wow, that was great. Q:Can Stage I,II,III,Iv.... be installed at a dealership different from the one where the bike was purchased? within the time periods you stated, etc.. Knowing this stuff ahead of time makes going in and buying one easier and less pain in the ass..... Thanks.
Matt I appreciate all your videos because of your reviews I purchased a 2019 Road Glide Special which will be delivered next month when I get back from deployment. Quick question can you add the wheel and tire coverage to any length term and does the term length affect the wheel and tire additional cost?
This was such an informative video! ever since I bought my 17 dyna brand new I’ve been wondering if me getting the extra 5 year ESP was a smart decision as it did make my monthly payment higher... although i want after market parts it’s my main mode of transportation as of now and it gives me peace of mind knowing I have it fully covered to the wheels and that I have the option to cancel it later down the line... also thanks for the tip on checking if the warranty is genuine HD becuz I didn’t ask that question...when I get home from Work I’m gonna look through my paperwork and make sure it’s that form you showed... thank you for being so helpful, I always refer to ur vids when it comes to the technical info on HD’s
+Matt Laidlaw also one more question let’s say my friend put an aftermarket full system exhaust and gave me his old set of SE slip ons and i put them on would that affect my warranty because I installed em myself or it remains under warranty because SE is a genuine part...thank you so much!
In fact great video, Matt. My name is Ivan Dragnev from Bulgaria and i ordered Fat Boy 2019 FLBS Scorched Orange few months ago to the HD dealer in Sofia. I payed some advanced sum of money before ordering and now i am going to purchase the whole price as to buy the bike. I am not sure that i uinderstand everything about this extended service plan, so i have few questions, please. 1. I have to pay some money for additional 5 year warranty in the same time as i purchase the bike. My dealer is going to explain me this additional warranty and will tell me the price? I have to subscribe some contract? Am i correct? 2. If i purchase some Screamin Eagle parts now, before purchasing of the bike or in 60 days after purchasing of the bike i will recieve additional 5 year warranty for the whole bike and Screamin Eagle performance parts. May be the better way is to purchase the bike and the parts simultaneously? For example i want to buy for my Fat Boy Street Cannon Exhausts, Air Intake Screamin Eagle System and may be Stage 3 Kit. Have i understood everything about this additional warranty? Best Regards from Bulgaria.
Matt you’re talking about the warranty and stuff like that parts and stuff what about a motorcycle dash cam on your bike do you install and sell ones like that
Thank you for the info , now I have a question and maybe you covered it in a way that it was not clear to me , what would happen if I buy an aftermarket slip on exhaust and install my self (just the slip on) would that void my warranty at all ? Thank you in advance
Strange how things go. I was just looking at my extended warranty paperwork just a few hours ago and decided to check out You Tube and their you were! You answered some of the things I was wondering about. One thing though. Will they contact me when the warranty is about to expire? Or is that all on me to keep track of that and buy more if that's what I choose to do?
It’s on you to remember when it expires. Make sure to do something a week before it expires. Sometimes HD sends out a postcard. Don’t count on it though.
Matt I want to buy a 2020 roadking special with 1400 miles on it the bike has a 3 year warranty and I want to finance it through Harley Davidson will I still get a 60 day custom part warranty and be able to purchase parts and finance them and have them covered as if I bought a new bike?
Matt, great information but I have a question. I purchased a 3 year warranty 90 days before my 2 year factory warranty expires. I made the assumption that this warranty would take effect when the original factory warranty expires. Would that be correct? Enjoy your videos and always stop by the shop when I'm in LA
Dear I have bought my HD brand new and bought the warranty when I was walking away from HD. The form looks like what you showed me. Its only 4 years old but some paint part being cracking and I have to keep jump my bike to start. Will this be covered? I am fairly new to HD world.
So for example if you get screaming eagle parts like a tuner after the 60 days harley will treat it as a aftermarket part in the sense of warranty coverage?
I get when you say 3rd party will not be covered makes perfect sense but what about a screaming eagle tuner after the 60 days. Will it be seen as a 3rd party to harley.
If you want to do any mods with any parts other than screaming eagle don't get the extended warranty as soon as you put a tuner other than harley-davidson branded one on your warranty is void If you add a big bore kit or put parts in it that isn't harley-davidson your warranty is void You can't even take it to your local mechanic or warranty void
@@MattLaidlaw thank you for your reply. Does the used bike warranty cover all the items as does the new bike warranty? Are there any differences?
You probably dont care but if you are stoned like me during the covid times then you can watch pretty much all of the new movies and series on Instaflixxer. Been watching with my brother for the last months :)
@Jayceon Bishop definitely, I have been watching on Instaflixxer for months myself :)
I am not a HD owner, but you have done more for the brand than any other dealership that i know of. With HD making better bikes I have tuned more to your channel for insight and information. Thanks for the time and investment you put into your channel.
Thank you. I appreciate that.
Agreed
OMG my warranty expires in two months....this is EXACTLY the information I needed to make an informed decision. Great stuff as always Matt!
Hello Matt,
First of all, this video has to be the Finest you ever produced!
Thank you for the great compliment. I appreciate it. Good luck with your future purchase.
Would love to see a new version of this video with any possible updates or things you have learned from the dealer perspective!
Matt in the past I have dogged your channel, I have to apologized, for your clarity is great, oem
Warranty is what we need !
Good. Glad I could confirm. Yea, you made a wise investment. A CVO bagger has a lot of expensive components that are costly to repair or replace.
Their's more to that story, trust me. She beat on that bike !!!
Thank you Matt, I'm do for service in 300 miles and I will look into this. Didn't bother getting extended when I bought the bike 4/2016.
This is one of the best HD info vids on TH-cam. Thanks a million for putting it all together. You guys should open up a dealership in Florida.
Thanks for watching.
Thank you for this information. The finance manager at my local dealer really took her time explaining this warranty.
No, it’s the same.
Ocala Fl.
Hi Matt,
Thank you for Another great video! I purchased my new HD about six month ago, and my only regret is that I found your channel after my purchase.
Recently I did my first service but decided to use a motorcycle mechanic shop instead of the dealer.
My question is if this:
does getting maintenance service outside the dealership void or effect the factory warranty?
Thanks Matt. Great information. I wish I knew about this prior to crossing over the 2 year mark.
I bought a 2019 limited in Dec I told the dealer what I wanted to do to the bike
Change the mufflers putting a header on putting a stag 3 kit in it
I was unaware that this would void my warranty I've had the bike for two months
I've been having problems check engine lights on
The bike runs great
I know if they hook it up to the computer it will void
My question is what should I do
If I new that I could not take off the catalytic converter I would have never bought the bike
Having that on the bike it literally burns you off the bike
I feel as if I was mislead
And if that doesn't make me mad AH THEY SOLD ME A EXTENDED WARRANTY THAT IS WORTHLESS
I spent over 35 thousand dollars on this bike
Item of note: The Harley Dealerships are "certified installers" of Dynajet
It really depends on what happens. It doesn’t automatically void your drive train because it is before 2017 model year.
Thank you for the detailed information. Just bought an fxbb... 30 days ago. Now I have a way better idea of how the ESP works. ✌
Thank you Matt. Great help! I’m considering a Harley and all your videos have been informative!
Matt Laidlaw, I think that's the model. Sportster 1200
Great Video. So since I did the 3 year, I am getting the 2 year that comes with the bike and one additional year? Good to know. I thought I was purchasing 3 years that start once the 2 year is over.
This was very helpful. I purchased a new HD warranty 3 months ago so, yeah. Thanks!
How soon do you have to get it before your regular 2 year warranty runs out
Good info, wish I would have done this on my 2011 CVO with 15,000 miles.
No, but if you don’t then you better make sure it done right and thorough. Save receipts of oils etc. Buy a service manual and stick to it.
Thanks for the in depth warranty and extended service plan. As said a lot of dealers do not explain or it is because they don't know or care. If your dealership was near me i would be purchasing a new bike. Again thanks.
Thank you
How much difference is there between the original purchase warranty drom the extended?
Also why say your purchasing a 3 or 7 year warranty on a new bike when when its actually a 1 and 5? It makes absolutely no sense to me why pay for a warranty ON TOP of an existing warranty.
I love HD quality but I also don't like throwing money away.
I bought a used 2014 FLXH last march and shelled out $3,300 for the 5 year ESP. So far I only used about $250 for a replacement switch pack.
Humm, I'm kinda hoping something big breaks before it expires.
Update: I cancelled my ESP and getting a credit for the unused portion to go towards lowering my principle.

When did Harley-Davidson extended warranty I got a question on it extended warranty does it cover a rental on another bike while my bikes being fixed
Very helpful thanks for sharing,
2016 freewheeler with 6700 miles
3yr esp
3yr screaming eagle
3yr tire and rim
16000,is it a good deal plus warranty
Only mods Vance Hines slip-ons
What’s the typical price of each warranty?
You buy it used?
Hey Matt, this is great information and fully explanation. Thanks man Good job 👍🏼
Thank you for all the information. I sure wish my dealership had shared this with me at the time of my purchase.
I’m a little late to this video I was wondering does the warranty cover user error
Matt, I upgraded last summer from a 2016 48 to a 2016 street Bob. My question is this: when I traded in my 48 I never cancelled my esp. Can I call the dealer now 9 months later and cancel for reimbursement or transfer it to my 2016 street Bob?.....thanx
this is an other example of why your at the top (THE TOP) of the you tube videos...………...
So if I do the screaming eagle cam it’s not going to be under my warranty ?? It’s a 2020 but I’ve only owned it for 5 months
So warranties sold by other companies are not honored at a Harley Dealership?
a few weeks ago I bought a 2015 Vrod from a HD dealership down In Florida , they talked me into buying a five year planed maintenance agreement cost $1700 .
Thank you. Chris
Very cool info I am looking to get a new bike this years great help,I am glad I find you Chanel, thank you
Happy and prosporous New Year to you and your Family.
Thank you . Happy New Year!
Where can I find a copy of the HD Extended Service Plan (ESP) on the web so that I can actually read it before speaking with someone. I can't seem to find it on the HD website. Why would they make it so difficult for their customers to find and read before making a motorcycle purchase?
I’m not sure. Ask your dealer for a copy
Thanks! Wow, that was great. Q:Can Stage I,II,III,Iv.... be installed at a dealership different from the one where the bike was purchased? within the time periods you stated, etc.. Knowing this stuff ahead of time makes going in and buying one easier and less pain in the ass..... Thanks.
What if you buy the extended 5 year warranty before the 2 year ends. Doesn’t it give you 7 years that way?
What about Magnuson-Moss warranty acts???? Aftermarket and services etc....
Thanks Matt,
I appreciate it ...for taking the time to explain...
I have a question what if you get an accident will the warranty even help out
Matt. You can cancel your warranty, but can you also cancel your ESP?
I got an ESP which was added into my financing payments. Can that be cancelled?
Thank you very much for this very interesting video, especially for real buyers. And, of course, a happy new year!
Happy New Year
In fact great video, Matt.
Im just tryin to figure out if the bcm is covered by the warranty
this is an older video, hope you still monitor commonts on older vids. what are the handle bars on the street glide?
What is the biggest torque can i can put in my 2022 stock street glide special
Matt, great information but I have a question. I purchased a 3 year warranty 90 days before my 2 year factory warranty expires. I made the assumption that this warranty would take effect when the original factory warranty expires. Would that be correct?
Enjoy your videos and always stop by the shop when I'm in LA
That is correct
How is that changing now that the government called out Harley on their warranty?
Can you do a video like this for the GAP Insurance?
Dear
I have bought my HD brand new and bought the warranty when I was walking away from HD.
If you want to do any mods with any parts other than screaming eagle don't get the extended warranty as soon as you put a tuner other than harley-davidson branded one on your warranty is void
If you add a big bore kit or put parts in it that isn't harley-davidson your warranty is void
You can't even take it to your local mechanic or warranty void
