Just got Brotato and I'm hooked. But my top roguelite is definitely roboquest. Just has some of the cleanest most fun gameplay mechanics you could ask for in a shooter with tons of variety between runs with all the classes, weapons, and builds. Love the style and music with lots of cool secrets to find. Best roguelite shooter hands down.
A friend of mine bought me Risk of Rain Returns and the only gripe with it I have is that while it's being empty it seems to pool the enemies and you just get so overwhelmed all at once and can only do so much damage, especially damage that hits multiple targets at once. I'll definitely be looking into Roboquest though. Love that cell shaded shooter type of game.
Great video as always man! A bit late to the party but top tier list are always valid, roguelikes on average age well :) Roboquest was really good to play, I liked the fact you had to do specific tasks to unlock characters etc. The soundtrack is crazy. I never played Risk of Rain Returns but I had a similar feeling as you described while playing Risk of Rain 2, I'll keep trying it in the future but now I'm considering the get Risk of Rain Returns! I don't know, Darkest Dungeons don't push my interest, maybe in the future I'll try it. Who knows! And brotato was absolutely great! I've not unlocked all the characters and I've beaten the game only with a few characters, but man it's so cool, so refreshing in the horde survivors roguelikes. Thanks for sharing! :)
Roboquest is definitely the one I need to play, along with Gunfire Reborn. Gonna tell my friends to get me Steam gift cards for Christmas this year. Honestly Brotato was not what I was expecting for #1. Auto-shooters in general kinda whizzed past me over the past year but I really enjoyed the DRG: Survivors Demo and really like God of Weapons, so maybe I'll have to give Brotato a shot.
I'm still trying to play as much Roboquest as possible and it's hard with all these games. And I was surprised when thinking of this video that Brotato was my number 1 as well. I'm not usually big on auto-shooters and do like them here and there, but Brotato just stands out so much for me
I wasn’t happy with Roboquest and liked Gunfire way more. Last time I played was in summer and perhaps it has drastically changed since it’s out of Early Access but the gameplay loop felt too shallow.
Magicraft and Crown Trick! 2 games that complement each other perfectly! They somehow slipped right under almost everyone's radar, people need to play these games, especially Magicraft so the makers are inspired to give it the attention it deserves, it's possibly the ultimate rougelite mechanic, they're still working on it, it needs to me much longer, because the combinations and interactions between your stuff is literally endless. and Crown Trick needs a sequel!

Death Must Die is AMAZING if you give some time into it and grind up some gears The grinding part reminds me so much about Diablo 2 , and you'd try to minmax the roll and find the best one to build your character. The Hades type leveling system also make the game variety so much more, and each god really emphasize on one aspect, and you can pick up to 3 major gods and 1 support god. I honestly didn't expect i'd like this game as much as i did when i first played it because before you get some gears first, the game progression can be quite a bit tedious, especially if you add difficulty toggle on (it's a system that just like Hades difficulty system.
I love roguelites but I know know why Roboquest just doesn’t do it at all for me. Something about it just feels lacking for me. When I first saw it I thought I would love it but I just can’t get into it. Not sure what it is about the game that’s lacking for me.
That happens at times as not every game can appeal everyone. You may enjoy Gunfire Reborn more if you havwnt tried that one. It's probably the biggest FPS roguelite out there that I can think of, people love it
@@Burr_ to a fair amount of people sure but they are like two different sub genres of the same overall genre. Difference is meta progression. That is a big gameplay difference and matters quite a bit to some people. It could be a deal breaker for a lot of people too. Character starting at the same strength every run no matter what VS the character getting stronger the more they die? May feel the same but they are pretty different when it comes down to it.
Hard disagree on Roboquest being in a top list at all but hey that’s okay! The last time I tried it out for a few hours a few months ago and I found it pretty dull and boring, especially when comparing it to Gunfire Reborn. It felt quite shallow, like something is missing in this game. Maybe it gets better when playing with friends. I saw some potential though since the gunplay was quite nice. Also I’m surprised Brotato made it to top 1. Maybe an unpopular opinion or my taste is just pure dog sh*t but that wasn’t a 10/10 game for me either. Rather an 8/10. I own almost all Vampire Survivor style games and had the most fun with Death Must Die. It’s similar to Halls of Torment but instead of mixing Diablo 2 and Vampire Survivors into a game it leans more towards a Hades + Vampire Survivors mixup. It does more things right than Halls of Torment in my opinion (except for the auto attack movement speed penalty, that is meh). If you haven’t tried it out yet give it a shot.
"the greatest year in gaming", yeah, look up the games that came out along with the ps2, and see how many of them still hold up against this year. those days, they still made classics, do you honestly think that dave the diver or some garbage like alan wake 2 which nobody played, will be remembered? seriously, the year of starfield, gollum and diablo 4, "the greatest year in gaming", yeah.
I cannot understand the brotato hype. I’ve tried to get into it so many times and next to the graphics making my eyes bleed I just don’t find it fun at all.

Brotato looks awesome. Always seems like Nintendo switch has the best ones. Bummer #Ihaveaps5
I think Brotato recently got added to the PS5 and Gamepass
I just realized this today. And only five bucks! Just about to check it out some now. Hopefully I can go to bed at a reasonable time. 😂 thanks!
Cobalt Core is the best
I like Dome Keeper more than Wall World. brotato is a great number one
I LOVE Dome Keeper. One of those games i can ALWAYS play. And I'm glad some others agree with Brotato being number 1!
roboquest and brotato are the best
Holocure Live?
❤
"the greatest year in gaming", yeah, look up the games that came out along with the ps2, and see how many of them still hold up against this year. those days, they still made classics, do you honestly think that dave the diver or some garbage like alan wake 2 which nobody played, will be remembered? seriously, the year of starfield, gollum and diablo 4, "the greatest year in gaming", yeah.
Brotato :)
I cannot understand the brotato hype. I’ve tried to get into it so many times and next to the graphics making my eyes bleed I just don’t find it fun at all.
Hey that’s fine. Everyone can find themselves enjoying different games and genres, regardless of how popular one is.
What is your number 1 roguelite of 2023?
