Hades and Returnal do a great job of having a roguelite that you play to "arrive somewhere" (the former more than the latter) as opposed to most roguelites where you just play for the sake of each individual run being fun (which is totally fine). I wish there were more Roguelites like that, where there's an actual story
Being really honest, isaac is a god tier in lore and story, but in gameplay kinda lacks. Weird hitboxes, floors only get interesting late game. In general it feels too basic, it's fun but compared to gungeon it's REALLY basic.
As an Isaac fan. I prob would have said the same thing 6 years ago. But man, I kept returning to it ever year or so and now I play it daily. You learn new things about it every time you play. There’s 34 characters with 12 completion marks per character. A lot of content and unlocks. With a casual 637 achievements. If you ever go back to it (like I kept doing) you’ll fall in love too.
agreed, EXCEPT fuck everything about Delirium. I hate that fight with a burning passion. I remain convinced that Delirium is one of the worst boss fights out there, and I'll gladly die on that hill.
Probably the most underrated roguelike I've found is from the FTL developers called Into the Breach. It's puzzle focused but I'd highly recommend anyone check it out and it's a bit easier than FTL imo.
A lot of things changed in a year. This list looks so much better! I basically agree with everything but Wildfrost, which is surprising because I have some strong roguelike opinions lol.
I'd say the main charm of Isaac is the cosmetics, it adds so much to the random feeling of each run because it's not only the effects or projectiles, but you also got the combinated cosmetics of the characters. I have 470+ hours on Isaac, and I believe I will never be bored playing it.
There is so much strategy in isaac, you can really manipulate the game to make insane builds. It really rewards experience. I tried many other rouge lites, but for me, too often it was just about, you find this and this weapon, see how far you can get with it. These days the newer rouge lites are better at giving players options to customize their builds, and it's great but to me there will always be something special about the freedom you have in isaac.
@@warezpl0 yeah agree with the strats, me on other roguelites probably would stick to 1 or 2 go-to strat because others are just not imba or not fun, but in Isaac, people above 100 hrs would get into the chasm of endless possibilities that Isaac provides. I've always been able to make knew imba combos in Isaac and trying to remember how to make it but almost never been able to recreate it, instead founding new imba strat in each and every run.
I've been on a mission to find a replacement to Isaac and truly, nothing else measures up in terms of possibility. I full cleared Tainted Lost and honestly, that's the biggest high I can see in the game. Just like The Lost, I'm ready to move on. Suggestions welcome 👍
I'm sure you already have, but if not I really do recommend Enter the Gungeon. It's the only thing that compares and though I think it is more difficult than Isaac, I also find it to be more fair. I have 1,788 hours in BOI btw.
Highly recommend Children of Morta. It has a great art style & a solid campaign with a good story. Plus, after you defeat the campaign, you unlock another mode that changes a lot about the game and adds a ton of replayability. It also has 2 player coop.
Skul is easily my favorite, the variety with things u can do and builds u can make is just unmatched for me. Making op builds for every character is what makes it fun, easy S tier for me.
Nuclear throne is the grandfather of twin-stick shooter roguelikes it is one of my favorite games ever made the characters are amazing with their unique differences and the gun and enemy variety just makes the game more chaotic and fun alongside the fact it has my favorite roguelike mechanic of all time looping.
I agree with this list for the most part. RoR2 is S tier. It is from recent memory the greatest early access game. It got continuous free updates. It is the standard now for 3rd person. Hades gets top down. Dead Cells gets 2D. I'd also say that Ship of Fools is way too low. Especially since with multiplayer, its such a fun chaotic time.
I love Hades for Zagreus and his character. And the storytelling. The way it is told and the characters react to what you do. I love the Zagreus being a sassy teen just trying to sneak out of his house.
Man, I tried to like this game but it’s not doing it for me. I installed the game 3 times already. I just don’t like the upgrades, don’t care about the characters and there’s too much going on on the screen. Good for you though! Love the doggy
Missing games off the top of my head: - Downwell - Ziggurat - Iratus - Slay the Spire - Monolith (now called Star of Providence) - Spellbook Demonslayers - Soulstone Survivors - Sunless Sea / Sky - Renowned Explorers - Guild of Dungeoneering - Kingsway - BPM - Halls of Torment - Despotism 3k - Runers - Nordic Ashes - Atomicrops - World of Horror - Hand of Fate - Dicey Dungeons - Crypt of the Necrodancer - Into the Breach
The binding of Isaac isn't like other Rougelike games. The more you play it, the more you realize how barely on the surface level you're at. The moment you unlock some key items, get some crazy synergies going, that's when the game shines.
Good luck with noita, it is really really hard but most deaths can easels be avoided with experience and once you’ve mastered it you become an unstoppable god that fears of being one shouted after transforming into a sheep.
Just wanna say risk of rain 2 I believe should be s tier I have it on switch, Xbox and pc, and I played the first one as well. From the music to the artistic style to the difficulty to the characters to the enemies to the amount of things you can do in each run(combing artifacts and/or combining different items) I believe it is one of the best probably games I’ve ever played
It's deceptively simple, being very complex with tons of tech and item synergies. It's enjoyable for both beginners and veterans. Not to mention the incredible lore behind the game hidden in details in the maps and that you can piece together in the log books
One Step from Eden is a great game. Plenty of different build paths and multiple characters to play as. Maybe high A/low S tier even though the runs can sometimes feel too long.
Great games: Atomicrops, Dead Estate, Crypt of the Necrodancer, Undermine, Luck be a Landlord, Backpack Hero, DR LIVESY ROM AND DEATH, Dicey Dungeons, Going Under, Just King, Legend of Bumbo, Moonlighter, Ring of Pain, Slay the Spire, Spelunky, and above all (at least for now) Shogun Showdown. If they keep up the good work then that game is an easy A possibly S tier for me.
curse of the dead gods is one of my all time favorite games i love the setting this Aztec Mesopotamia type of temple which is very unique and quite underused, i loved the character although quiet and not some sexy dude like zag from hades i loved his difference. i loved the runs the game play and the weapons and perks all quite interesting and worked well, the curse system was both cool gameplay and story wise in my eyes. and finally the difficulty the runs where you stomp everything including the bosses do exist but generaly you really have to learn the enemies and bosses move sets to win which felt like the pantheons in hollow knight. all in all 10/10 game in my eyes ive done 100% of the game including the weapons and the codex's i love this game.
Was waiting to see where you ranked Neon Abyss, and no dice. Its probably my favourite of the genre. And as a couple others mentioned, Into The Breach and Sythetik are both very good. Both are worth checking out. Synthetik also has a sequel but I've yet to play it.
i dont like how "its highly rng based" like, no? sure the game becomes A LOT easier with good rng but i(a newbie skul player) can get to last boss with beginner/intermediate skulls. it simply takes skill and practice. b-c would be an okay placement if we were to rank these from a "newbie player" viewpoint but placing hades in s tier while skul is c tier? no way.
Try Voidigo, Blade Assault, Doomsday Hunters, Vault of the Void, Ring of Pain, Roboquest, Deadlink, Soulstone Survivors, Beneath Oresa, Crawl Tactics, Immortal Tactics: War of the Eternals, Ember Knights, Brutal Orchestra... You forgot about Into the Breach and The Last Spell. Hyper Light Breaker and on my wishlist. ;-)
"Hyper Light Breaker and on my wishlist." I forgot the name of another game. I wanted to say: "Hyper Light Breaker and Wizard with a Gun on my wishlist." ) Thank you for giving me a heart (Like).
GREAT short, in depth review (as you could) for every game you put on this list. Great tier list, needs Slay the Spire. Thinking about grabbing a few of these i havent played myself and maybe go back to some i left behind. Keep it up!!!
You did a much better job this time my friend I was one of those people that said how is ror 2 not in your last tier list and I also was mad about your Issac rating but A feels more realistic especially with your reasoning. I still think it's S but I can deal with A. Crab champions is sick NGL
Thanks for making this tier list -- these things are always entertaining. Looking forward to your next iteration, which will hopefully include Slay the Spire!
This is an awesome list! I would suggest adding Monster Train, Moonlighter, Tangledeep, Slay the Spire and Don’t Starve to your rogue backlog. Those are all some of my faves and definitely worth trying!
I love Noita and the wand building is so cool it's just so frustrating how a really good run can just evaporate in under a second. The sheer amount of things that can completely blow through a full health bar in less than my reaction time even takes to register I took damage makes me rage
skul is not a heavily rng game but what i have noticed is that every run can be cleared as every run has a theme you need to pick up on and take the right items
Crab Champions is unironically very good and very fun with a lot of replayability haha. RoR2 should definitely be S tier especially because of mods but I understand the A rating haha
Great to see Brotato in the list this time! It's definitely my favourite of a lot of the games ive played, ive spent over 200 hours in the game and love it to pieces, enough to even write an entire steam guide on it to help people starting out, and strategies for every single character. So if anyone is looking in the comments to see if they should get one, i can personally suggest Brotato highly. Super fun, and so much to do!
You need to play Crypt of the Necrodancer. It is the most difficul roguelike I've ever played and one of the most fun for sure. It is a mix of roguelike and rhythm game. Rogue Heroes is also great and it is a mix of roguelike and RPG adventure.
I am a casual indie roguelites gamer and my current favourite is "Slice and Dice". I think, I've played easily more than 100 h maybe over 200 h. Pros: You"ll always find new mechanics, combos and synergies while playing, since there are a lot of items, curses, blessings and characters. Cons: IMO, some high tier items dont feel like that powerful and a good run can be killed by a REALLY bad turn with 2-4 blank sides (which doesn't happen that often). All in all, when I replay it, it doesnt get boring and thats what I want from roguelites.
I love Roguelikes probably my favorite genre. I to have played most of the ones you did. But you missed a major one. Synthetik is literally my favorite Roguelike of all time and still is. I have almost 500 hours in it and still play it a lot solo and co-op with friends.
Well done review man! Very fair assessment on each of these roguelites! I'll definitely have a rewatch of this video whenever I feel confused as to which roguelite to play! Keep rockin it man! :)
True, it's a really skillful game but I agree with just one point of his - iFrames, they are like..almost non-existent, since it's not that you get hit and that's it - you can get a full combo of an elite swordmaster to the face for half of your hp to be gone unless you play full Constitution, then it's more like a third of it gone. The other and only issue I have is with Dark Avatar of the Eagle - he can hp regen, I get it but it should be illegal for him to regen while he stands in the middle of the storm he created, cause you either come close enough to get contact damage from the storm or you let him regen all of the damage you've been dealing carefully for the past few minutes.
As some1 who maxed skul I want to sorta def it. 1st early game/first runs are much diff than later. Alchemy (most important) upgrade and some others gives you everything you may need to build what you want without much RNG (it is if you want to max out some synergy or hunt for specific legendery item), so after some time it's not the problem. Early I can give a hint, DON'T GO to item rooms (SKULL -> GOLD -> ITEM) because gold gives you ability to hunt good for your build items in shop or go to item room, but try to find skull that works well with dropped items thats the only way in first runs to get good build with almost no luck. 2nd it is harder than other popular rouglikes, (I first time beat hades in 10th run and in skul I once met 1st boss in 10 runs for example), but skill gives a lot it is possible to win every run even REALY bad if you know the patterns + have good reaction. And tip for future if some1 will play others games that feels RNG, try to understand what makes them that and minimalize it, play around rng not with rng (of course not every game works like that), it is something I like to do so maybe that's why I like skul. Btw I don't wrote this to proof your wrong jugment (because I understand your arguments) or change your opinion etc. I just know there's much more game that looks no fun and most about rng and I want you to try change your way of thinking in them, because maybe there will be some dirty diamond, as you named other games rng like in video and put in low tier (Idk if they are or just looks like, didn't play all of them) . Imo Skul was strong B+ and is A after dark mirror patch and thing that TRULY made me mad was not skul but Isaac in not S tier, but that just opinion so need to respect that (no matter how wrong it is😉), try play more because 30h is nothing there's a lot of content to unlock in this game (every or almost every achievment on steam is sth in game: char/item/boss/con/room so 600+ to unlock).
I tried Slay the Spire for the first time this year coming from a MTG background. I really loved it, put like 40 hours, got asension 5 or something like that and then got kind of burned out. So I started searching for other deckbuilders that run well on steam deck. I bought Wildfrost and tbh, at first I really didn't get it but not in a "it's too hard" kind of way, more in like a "I'm not understanding how to exploit this game", because at the end of the day, thats the whole point of roguelites from what I feel like. After like 15 hours I got my first win which felt lucky but after that run I surprisingly completed other 3 runs in a row with different "strats". The ending btw is very special and a really cool twist which I highly recommend beating it just for that. Anyway, what I'm saying is that I don't think Wildfrost has an issue being hard but it doesn't convey how to play it/strategize correctly so it feels hard at the beginning. It's a fun game, definetly on the high B tier for me, you should give it another try! Tip: x4 and x5 heroes and cards are very strong!
One of my fav rogue like games is soulstone survivors, especially with the new update. would recommend as even a fresh start if built right can finish the game. the replayability is AMAZING.
Heyo, thank you so much for including us and for the lovely rating! Enjoyed the list a lot! I'm glad to hear you keep your eyes out for updates too, as we are currently working on many cool things (just had a steam news post about it) :D
Since I played almost all the S tier games in this list I decided to try the game I found most interesting that wasn't S tier in this list. Choice fell on Dome Keeper. Perfect game in its scope, you can really feel a strong game design among other very nice things. I'd say it's not an S here just because it's not a very "big" game. Even more appreciated played after the disappointing Cult of the Lamb. Thank you for the fun.
@@Burr_ yeah, it took me like 150-200 hrs to make it to beast. I don't blame ya the game is massive you gotta REALLY like it to make it to all the content.
Excluding modded Risk of Rain 2, my favorite Roguelike has to be Dungreed, the game is just incredibly fun to the point that the only roguelike that beats is an already S tier game filled with awesome mods
Great list. My current jam is Halls of Torment. A Vampire Survivors inspired game with a Diablo 2 aesthetic. Tons of characters with different skills and a meta upgrade system that uses equipment. You definitely should check it out
God dammit I love darkest dungeon. I only have very few hours in it but the turn based combat is so satisfying with the quick response from clicking an action and the narration.
I’d been sleeping on Inscryption until I saw it was the only S tier I hadn’t played in this list. Downloaded it free on ps+ and sunk 5 hours into it immediately. Game is absolutely amazing, S tier for sure, fantastic video! Thanks for the pro tip
I’d love to see this list with Slay the Spire, Dead Estate, and Halls of Torment added, especially the last two, since we know that Slay the Spire is S-Tier Any thoughts on Dead Estate or Halls of Torment??
I have seen a bit of Hells of Torment and it looks very good! Dead Estate looks like a game I would enjoy as well. Twin stick action shooters, right down my alley
Great tier list, it surprised me dozens of times. Just think you could have included Atomicrops, definitely one of the best and most creative roguelikes out there! It's just so underrated :(
Thank you for providing an unbiased review. I would like to suggest adding Slay the Spire to the S tier. Initially, I found it difficult to beat even at level one. However, as time passed, I learned to appreciate the game's amazing deck building mechanics. I have played it for over 300 hours now and it continues to be a favorite of mine.
A really slept on roguelike I wish more people tried was Going Under. While it's not as content heavy as the other games on this list the unique gameplay and artistic style is what makes me feel like it's worth mentioning.
Sifu would be considered a Roguelite instead of a Roguelike. Basically Roguelites you can keep certain things when you start your run over such as weapons or skills. And Roguelikes you start over with nothing.
Actually a super solid list. Anyone who's looking for another S-tier roguelite should check out Griftlands. Klei is always an incredible studio, and the production quality on Griftlands just blows everything else out of the water imo.
I enjoyed Griftlands for a while, but the actual gameplay started to feel bland too soon. Decks fall into set archetypes, there is just too much hard synergy and not a lot of space for creative deckbuilding. The actual RPG-like structure is really cool, I wish the game was better in the card battling regard, the potential would be astronomical.
Honestly ive had so much fun playing ship of fools with my partner. There's fun meta progression, and also a huge skill curve (first boss felt really hard, then second, then third, etc. - but once you learn it and get the feeling down it becomes way more manageable). To each their own, but its certainly not a D tier game imo, especially with a friend. Side note, the game becomes much more manageable with designated roles. My girlfriend manned the stronger turret the whole game, i focused on reloading/maintaining ship with a sentry turret
I highly, HIGHLY recommend checking out the steam workshop for Isaac. I don't think i would have even put 20 hours in Repentance without it, it fixed so much of the tiny issues i've had that ultimately ruined the game for me (floor curses being just extremely annoying, time limit on boss rush and hush, when playing with Fiend Folio, it's borderline impossible to reach them in time, the garbage item quality system that makes it so you have less variety across runs etc etc). For me, modded Isaac is S-tier, but unmodded is B to C tier, genuinely.
I'm not a Binding of Isaac lover either. It's not bad in any way it's just all the games that built on it / learned from it have improved on it imo. Don't come at be with the "it gets good after a 1000 hours" , simple fact; it's the game's fault if it doesn't grab you from the start.
Nah, its more like your fault for being superficial, it is good from the start and every run it gets better, every single run until you unlock like 90% of the stuff you get new items, zones, bosses etc over and over.
Great list! Gives a good overview of what is available when people are looking for another rogue-lite fix. Besides Slay the Spire I would also suggest looking at Monster Train and Astrea.
Isaac is overrated. It's a pillar of the genre and can be argued to be the most IMPACTFUL roguelite to be made, but it has been outclassed at this point. So many games just have so much better gameplay or mechanics. I love Isaac and have put my fair share into it, but anyone who says it's an "easy S tier" are the ones who actually no nothing of the genre. I'll also say; it's crazy how much of a downgrade DD2 is compared to DD1. I really don't think the devs understand what people liked about the first game at all.
There is not a single Roguelike in the market with the same replayability or build diversity as Isaac, not even close, i have hundreds of hours in the game and if i pick it now i know i will end up with some crazy builds ive never did before, no other game does it like Isaac did, looks like youre the one who knows nothign about the genre and/or Isaac, and dont even get me started on how that "little" game has a crazy story and alot of the characters and items have very deep religious meanings.
Nobody thinks that hades combat system is incredibly boring? It feels like beating fat sacks of hp… maybe it’s ok for 3-4 hours, but after is becoming annoyingly boring 🥱 Your attacks stun lock enemies, amount of s (dashes) is too much. Like you can get hit only if you loosing concentration du to getting bored 🤷♂️
Hi there, have you played Crafty Survivors? Ability wise is the most unique of all these games: You can unlock buildings in your village and unlock different craft professionals (cook, wood carver, blacksmith...). The attack patterns and abilities are wonderfully designed around their jobs | There are 11 playable characters (4 more will be released) | RPG vibes | 9 different biomes | each character has a skill tree | a food system to customize your run even further | special systems add even more variety (food, blessings, farming, fishing, elixir). Sadly not many people played it and I was wondering what you think.
"BROGUE" I've been playing Brogue for over 15 years since version 1.74. Most perfectly balanced turn based rogue like game. No classes. You are what you find. Which makes every game run different. Some you'll be powerful and some you'll be almost hopeless. Great replayability. Winning the game by escaping with the amulet can take 20 hours, but it will take years before you'll learn to be good enough to know how to win. Trust me, when and if you ever win, it will be a most satisfying experience. It starts easy, but then it gets to where every single turn move matters and strategy and planning and taking advantage of the environment must be used. Greed, impatience, over stinginess, over cautious under cautious all will lead to an early demise. A thinkers game, not for hack slashers. Super old school No real graphics. I'd love to see a modern version with graphics. Kinda like playing chess. I've played a lot of modern games and always find myself coming back to Brogue. iPad and PC.
FTL also has an amazing mod called Multiverse. Ups it from the first 10 Ships to over 200 + some B and C variations. Also adds new Quests, Crew, enemies, Diffcultys, is huge.
You should try some of the following, they may look old but have gameplay mechanics better than many from your list: Caves of Qud, Tales of Maj'Eyal, Neo Scavanger, ADOM, Tangledeep, Dungeons of Dredmor, Rogue's Tale and Undermine, last one is newer that you probably missed. Probably missed some gems that don't come to mind right now.
Loved all those games, specially Tales, i've spend far too much time playing it XD. Only one I haven't played is Neo Scavanger, i'll tried it if i have some free time in the future. I feel like he hasn't tried too many of the old good ones, tbf i may be wrong as i haven't been around this channel long enough. Or perhaps he just prefers the ones that are more on the action side of things. At the end of the day it's all a matter of preferences, and the old dungeoncrawlers in particular can be a bit tedious if you don't have the time to put on them. Could also add to that list some similar ones but more on the simpler side like Dungeonmans or Rogue Empire. Maybe Sword of the Stars for a sci-fi option. And perhaps Griflands or Gordian Quest (if you even consider them roguelites XD) if you are more on the deckbuilding side of things.
Coming straight from the previous tierlist and it's definitely Better. I also liked the fact that you added on most games the amount of time you played since helps to understand how much you digged in the game. I agree on most of the games, like Curse of the Dead Gods and Have a Nice Death. I had the same feeling. This time I HIGHLY agree with you about Isaac. I had like 90 hours so I know many would Say I Just completed the tutorial, I like this but I'm not so addicted to the game; of course I play It with the Item description Active, it's a Nightmare without It! Finally, there's a lot of good game I never played until now that I'll try to include even on my small Channel. Thank you for your work man, super appreciated!
I misjudged the binding of isaac too, and regret it cause a friend gave me a copy of it for the psvita, and lost it in a flood. But been playing it on my switch every once in a while
For anyone on the fence about FTL Its amazing. SS+ tier game. They have a mod manager and a 'upgrade' (cant be hard to find, forget what its called..) that makes the game suuuuper crazy. 10/10 game.
I recently discovered Brotato and it changed my life. I'm hopelessly addicted and an intervention may be needed. Also it is that game that brought me to your excellent channel. Eight months have passed. Is Brotato 'S' tier for you yet? Because it is for me. I dabbled in the genre with Dicey Dungeons and was surprised how much I enjoyed it. Then kinda forgot about it. Played Hades, Isaac, Dead Cells, etc., and while I can see that they are all fantastic, Brotato is the one that I can't put down. I know it came out last year but it's my personal game of the year for 2024 and it's highly unlikely, even in March, that anything will surpass it. So many hours. It has been a long time since a game had me worried that I might have a problem with OCD behavior. 😂 Keep up the good work and I'll definitely check out some of these titles. PS Have you tried "Pickle Pete?" 😂
Thanks for the nice comment and I'm glad you're enjoying Brotato a lot. I know a lot of other people who get into those Brotato moods and they say they miss it when they get out of it so it's an easy game to get hooked on and I will say it is an S tier game for me. I haven't played in a hot minute, but it is the only horde survivor i was able to get all the achievements and the only one I played for 50 hours. The variety and uniqueness in every run is unmatched for it's genre. I do love Isaac, Dead, Hades, etc in their own way but Brotato does something special. And i have not tried Pickle Pete, never even heard of it
@@Burr_ Pickle Pete is like a souped-up TATE mode copy of Brotato on iOS (and maybe Android). It is totally playable for free, but there are lots of options to spend money. Very much a mobile game, similar to the free version of Brotato. Pickle Pete only as touch controls. BUT, it's quite good for what it is.
Nova Drift is another phenomenal roguelike. Arcadey and really quick runs in a spaceship builder is a winning formula for me Just wanted to recommend a roguelike that never got enough attention.
Streets of rogue and rogue lands are also two incredible games you should try sometime. Streets is just hilarious and fun and rogue lands holds a special place in my heart
Hades and Returnal do a great job of having a roguelite that you play to "arrive somewhere" (the former more than the latter) as opposed to most roguelites where you just play for the sake of each individual run being fun (which is totally fine). I wish there were more Roguelites like that, where there's an actual story
Children of Morta.
ETG and I’m only half joking masterpiece of a game
All the roguelites are like that... Because that's what a roguelite is. It would be a roguelike if it wasn't like that
I completed hades at the fourth run, and after that i dropped the game. Have an objetive to arrive can be a disadventage for experimented players.
@@sibrimbarcenasreales5525 you're not experimented my guy. Cuz you didn't "complete" the game lol. Beating Hades once isn't even the final boss...
No Isaac and Risk of Rain 2 in S tier is a criminal offence
Binding of Isaac is so good, it's really very simple in mechanics but complex in execution.
RoR2 is kinda bad with what developers done in DLC
It’s subjective. let it go

I knew this review was going to be subpar as soon as this man said he cleared the game in 30 hours... No, no you didn't
@@mapouman Issac fans try not to get someone to dedicate hundreds of hours into a single game challenge (other games exist)

@@mapouman Yup, Binding of Isaac not on S tier is a crime, it should even have its own category like SSS tier, nothing comes close.

Nuclear Throne and TBOI 🐐🐐

Yeah...
Probably the most underrated roguelike I've found is from the FTL developers called Into the Breach. It's puzzle focused but I'd highly recommend anyone check it out and it's a bit easier than FTL imo.
I think it’s in my library. It looks really good!
Yeah, Into the Breach has great climate and addictive music :) Ben Prunty did a great job with the music again after perfect FTL
Easier?
A lot of things changed in a year. This list looks so much better! I basically agree with everything but Wildfrost, which is surprising because I have some strong roguelike opinions lol.
Thanks for supporting and watching. Means a lot coming from you Retro.
Retro! Nice! Hey dude! Love your channel!
I hope that Revita jumps up a tier once 2.0 comes out. Kind of shocked to know it would be in ur B tier as it was a long series there.

Definitely one of my favs. Grabbed it for multiple systems. Also the top down, kinda Zelda dungeon visuals also make it more appealing imo.
Highly recommend Children of Morta. It has a great art style & a solid campaign with a good story. Plus, after you defeat the campaign, you unlock another mode that changes a lot about the game and adds a ton of replayability. It also has 2 player coop.
Agreed
Second this.
LINDA FTW!
Such a gem of a game
Love this game
This video was informative and well paced. I also really appreciate all of the annotations. Thanks man!
Thanks for watching and supporting!
It looks VERY good. i think i have it on game pass if its still there. gonna need to try it
@@Burr_I’d definitely recommend it on mouse and keyboard over controller tbh
It's also easily one of the hardest
I agree with everything above
i got into nuclear throne very late, but it easily became one of my favorite roguelites of all time.
I agree with this list for the most part. RoR2 is S tier. It is from recent memory the greatest early access game. It got continuous free updates. It is the standard now for 3rd person. Hades gets top down. Dead Cells gets 2D. I'd also say that Ship of Fools is way too low. Especially since with multiplayer, its such a fun chaotic time.
does slay the spire get deckbuilder? 😊
@@GolAcheron-fc4ugit definitely does
gungeon gets topdown for me
What is topdown? Fdom my memory, Hades & Dead cells were amazing, ROR2 was really boring
@@Themarch001 RoR2 boring? damn. That game is so rewarding.

From the music to the artistic style to the difficulty to the characters to the enemies to the amount of things you can do in each run(combing artifacts and/or combining different items) I believe it is one of the best probably games I’ve ever played
it should be double S tier with a huge gap between the rest
then S tier FTL, Slay the spire, Dead Cells and Immortal Redneck in no order.
@@Snailing_Suikahave you played tboi repentance?
It's deceptively simple, being very complex with tons of tech and item synergies. It's enjoyable for both beginners and veterans. Not to mention the incredible lore behind the game hidden in details in the maps and that you can piece together in the log books

One thing I’ve always found a bit annoying about these collect ‘em all videos is the pacing, but you found the sweet spot! Good stuff dude, thanks ✌️
Thanks for watching and supporting! One of the most unique compliments I've gotten and love it
Crypt of the NecroDancer is another well known rouge like you should play
That game was so fire. Such a unique gameplay too!
One Step from Eden is a great game. Plenty of different build paths and multiple characters to play as. Maybe high A/low S tier even though the runs can sometimes feel too long.
At 30-40 mins it's longer than Hades but on par with Dead Cells or Gungeon. Good timing, I feel.
How did this guy make it to the last boss in Curse of the Dead Gods while thinking that there's no s
Lmao he perfect dodges in the clip he shows.
Amazing video, crazy how in depth this is. You're gonna need another tier list in a year because sooooo many roguelikes are coming out now
Next one will be a 75 game list
@@Burr_ Make a part 2 of this video, adding new games :)
Lot of great games on that list in my library that deserve more playtime from me
curse of the dead gods is one of my all time favorite games i love the setting this Aztec Mesopotamia type of temple which is very unique and quite underused, i loved the character although quiet and not some sexy dude like zag from hades i loved his difference. i loved the runs the game play and the weapons and perks all quite interesting and worked well, the curse system was both cool gameplay and story wise in my eyes. and finally the difficulty the runs where you stomp everything including the bosses do exist but generaly you really have to learn the enemies and bosses move sets to win which felt like the pantheons in hollow knight.
all in all 10/10 game in my eyes ive done 100% of the game including the weapons and the codex's i love this game.
You sell the game very well. makes me want to go back and try it again to be honest
It's a perfect steam deck game too!
Was waiting to see where you ranked Neon Abyss, and no dice. Its probably my favourite of the genre. And as a couple others mentioned, Into The Breach and Sythetik are both very good. Both are worth checking out. Synthetik also has a sequel but I've yet to play it.
Skul The Hero Slayer not being S tier is a crime against humanity
I agree that game is Amazing
i dont like how "its highly rng based" like, no? sure the game becomes A LOT easier with good rng but i(a newbie skul player) can get to last boss with beginner/intermediate skulls. it simply takes skill and practice. b-c would be an okay placement if we were to rank these from a "newbie player" viewpoint but placing hades in s tier while skul is c tier?
Thank you for always supporting! Slay the spire is very much needed, i agree
You did a much better job this time my friend I was one of those people that said how is ror 2 not in your last tier list and I also was mad about your Issac rating but A feels more realistic especially with your reasoning. I still think it's S but I can deal with A. Crab champions is sick NGL
Thank you for the very nice comment and watching and supporting
its so cool that ppl do videos like this. appreciate

@@Burr_ yea looking forward to more
Good tier list! BUT I'm so sad you didnt play spelunky 1/2, it's sooo much fun! I hope you rank it in the next updated tier list video! ;)
Thanks for making this tier list -- these things are always entertaining.
Looking forward to your next iteration, which will hopefully include Slay the Spire!
Next one hopefully next year. Maybe Slay gets it own video
Noita too!
slay the spire , Roguebook , Rogue Lords (pleaseeee look at Rogue Lords) noone knows about that game!
This is an awesome list! I would suggest adding Monster Train, Moonlighter, Tangledeep, Slay the Spire and Don’t Starve to your rogue backlog. Those are all some of my faves and definitely worth trying!
dont starve has some rogue aspects to it but i think it would be better classified as a open world survival game
If don't starve is a roguelike game then hardcore minecraft is as well
Spelunky 2?
@@guilhermebarao4866 Maybe, but Don't Starve is more roguelike than Darkest Dungeon 1 - and it's also on the list.
not having slay the spire on a list like this is insane, such a legendary game
"Griftlands" is an incredible rogue deckbuilder.
Personal favorite Rogue Like is Noita. So much replayability, so much variety, so many systems. I have 1100 hours in it and still play it daily.
I’ve heard a lot of good things about it
I love Noita and the wand building is so cool it's just so frustrating how a really good run can just evaporate in under a second.
Crab champions was very surprising to me
Honestly for me I would say mods make a lot of roguelites into S tier for me. Slay the spire for example was fun but mods made it S tier.
Care to share links to those guides you made?
Where's Noita
Where's Synthetik
Where's Monster Train
Where's Crypt of the Necrodance
Where's Vault of the Void
is hollow knight included?
Absolutely agree, especially now that the massive new update came out. This is the only mobile game I have ever spent money on, it's so good
I love Roguelikes probably my favorite genre. I to have played most of the ones you did. But you missed a major one. Synthetik is literally my favorite Roguelike of all time and still is. I have almost 500 hours in it and still play it a lot solo and co-op with friends.
Such a hidden gem channel
Thank you!
Well done review man! Very fair assessment on each of these roguelites! I'll definitely have a rewatch of this video whenever I feel confused as to which roguelite to play! Keep rockin it man! :)
Thank you! Thanks for watching and the kind words. Glad this video can help you find some games!
Curse of the dead gods being in C because of skill issue is wild 💀
If you want to play another Deckbuilder I have two recommendations for you: Monster Train as a roguelite and Steamworld Quest as an RPG
@@Kejosruler Didn't liked monster train since it was hard to read on my steam deck and the aesthetic didn't quite did it for me

I’d love to see this list with Slay the Spire, Dead Estate, and Halls of Torment added, especially the last two, since we know that Slay the Spire is S-Tier
Any thoughts on Dead Estate or Halls of Torment??
I have seen a bit of Hells of Torment and it looks very good! Dead Estate looks like a game I would enjoy as well. Twin stick action shooters, right down my alley
Slay the Spire auto S tier. Too good.
Great tier list, it surprised me dozens of times. Just think you could have included Atomicrops, definitely one of the best and most creative roguelikes out there! It's just so underrated :(
Thanks for supporting! Atomicrops is one in my steam library, but never had the time to get too it

I’ve had my eye on this one for a bit. The aerator is defiantly unique

Love the list! Would love for you to try and play Noita and I’m very interested where it would site on your tier list 😂

Sifu would be considered a Roguelite instead of a Roguelike. Basically Roguelites you can keep certain things when you start your run over such as weapons or skills. And Roguelikes you start over with nothing.
so funny how you always „only played a game for x amount of hours“ for me playing a game for 10 hours already is a lot 😁 great video 👌
Haha sometimes i feel like I dont have enough time in some games. but thanks for watching and supporting
I think it’s probably because he hasn’t tried the co-op. It’s so much better with co-op I loved it playing with my partner
You should add Against the Storm and Rogue Tower to your list. Very interesting takes on the genre and pretty fun :D
Wizard of Legend being that low is criminal. That's easily S tier for me, and at the very least A tier.
Sifu B tier?
People have different opinions
its criminal how Streets of Rogue isnt on this list
I’m so late to this party, but my most recent roguelite addiction is Blazblue Entropy Effect, the combat and variety is so clean. Love it
Isaac is overrated.
It feels like beating fat sacks of hp… maybe it’s ok for 3-4 hours, but after is becoming annoyingly boring 🥱
Your attacks stun lock enemies, amount of s (dashes) is too much.
I haven’t played it myself but based off your description it sounds pretty fun
Also adds new Quests, Crew, enemies, Diffcultys, is huge.
holy shit. Ive never heard of that but assume it's all community made. That is INSANE
Great vid! My GOATs are definitely Dead Cells, Binding of Isaac, and Hades.
Brotato is best
Binding of Isaac ruined my life. I can't enjoy anything but roguelikes now. Skul, RoR2 and Patch Quest are goated.
Well if you’re going to love only one genre roguelites are a good one to be stuck with
You should try some of the following, they may look old but have gameplay mechanics better than many from your list: Caves of Qud, Tales of Maj'Eyal, Neo Scavanger, ADOM, Tangledeep, Dungeons of Dredmor, Rogue's Tale and Undermine, last one is newer that you probably missed.
If you're still looking for good rogue like games, try "The Last Spell" and/or "Heroes of Hammerwatch"
Cool video. Love your open mindedness on these games. Very refreshing. Subbed
Thanks for the kind words and watching Means a lot
Have you played Roboquest yet?
I misjudged the binding of isaac too, and regret it cause a friend gave me a copy of it for the psvita, and lost it in a flood. But been playing it on my switch every once in a while
For anyone on the fence about FTL
Its amazing. SS+ tier game.
They have a mod manager and a 'upgrade' (cant be hard to find, forget what its called..) that makes the game suuuuper crazy. 10/10 game.
Just to add a bit. In Inscripytion there's the Kaycee's mod, wich expands the first chapter of the story to a full deckbuilder roguelike.
I wanted to back to play Kaycees mod but never had the time for it.
@@Burr_ it is worth it!
Monster Train is up there with one of the best roguelikes and most replayable; A tier at least.
Enjoyed the list. I would highly recommend the roguelite Star of Providence (used to be called Monolith). It's one of my favorites!
Will need to look it up! Also, love the metroid profile picture! Top tier
Nova Drift is another phenomenal roguelike. Arcadey and really quick runs in a spaceship builder is a winning formula for me
Just wanted to recommend a roguelike that never got enough attention.
That one has been on my wishlist for a bit. It's nice to hear its a short run as most games ive been playing have such long runs nowadays
I can strongly recommend playing Patch Quest. Its a really fun indie roguelite metroidvania.
Streets of rogue and rogue lands are also two incredible games you should try sometime. Streets is just hilarious and fun and rogue lands holds a special place in my heart
