Patenting gaming genres of must be one of the seven sins of modern era. Edit : Also weird how Fntastic with their new shenanigans didn't made it into this list.
You have to remember: Fortnight wasn’t originally the Fortnight we know and love. The flexibility and agility of the dev team should be the lesson learned.
I've been saying that for a while now. Not only will they be forcing digital only games on us, they will also be forcing subscriptions on us to play the game you just paid for. And once the modern gaming industry is all digital, the prices for games will skyrocket. I am completely done with modern gaming.
Sheshhh.......i cant imagine how catastrophic it will be, almost all the game reviewers and game dev put the word soulslike into their presentation or review to discribe the game
How is it fleecing, you're not obligated to buy it. Too many people use buzz terms to define actions where the buzz words is not valid. A perfect example is GenZ calling out things as scams that don't qualify as scams.
3:18 I remember in High school, a bunch of people mis-saw or mis-heard the price for the Nefarious Horse Armour and now I’d say its a legit Mandela Effect. People remember hating it, not just for being ‘just horse armor,’ but for also being *$20 USD* for ‘just horse armor…’ Obviously, it was $2.50
Did everyone forget about the fourth round of DLC for MechAssault in November of 2003 that costs 5 bucks? That's almost three years before horse armor, so "the first one in the water" wasn't Bethesda. They don't even deserve that credit....
Now just Imagine (don't take it serious) if Valve, Rockstar Games and even Mojang starts patenting genres, that would be a literal Thanos snap scenario to the gaming industry.
I’m so tired of being forced to be connected to the internet to play single player games. Specially when being connected has no bearing whatsoever with what’s going on. More so when you have a hard copy of the game.
oh man, can you imagine another Obsidian Fallout? yes please. the whole PSN issue and removing original Hoziron is so greedy. it's like they don't wanna give players the freedom NOT to buy a remaster because they know how much nobody would. and they wonder why people pirate games.
Even if they didn't replace it they would just raise the price of the original Horizon to be $10 less than the remaster to avoid people buying the original for $20 and then upgrading from that. There's a reason that Spider-man (2018) is still so expensive despite being 6 years old and a last gen game. Having a remaster upgrade prevents them from having to lower the price because it's no longer an "old game."
Do you remember when these used to be actual weird gaming stories like a guy completing dark souls with guitar hero and not just complaining about money hungry publishers 😂
"12 to 15 hour AAA game"? Like, a game I would have to pay $80+ to buy... that I finish in 12 hours? That game would make minimum wage. If you make minimum wage, then every hour you work to afford that game would only get you one hour of enjoyment out of that game. That's some pretty horrible return.
Some people work and have a life that's outside of videogames lmao I play easily 10 plus games a year , thank god they aren't all 50 hours long or I'd never have any of them done but everyone's different when it comes to spending money

I mean, it's definitely subjective. It's not what I personally consider a good game, but I still get enjoyment out of playing it sometimes with my friends (or even by myself occasionally).

Another change about PS Stars that pisses me off is the fact they shadow removed the ability to buy PS cards with your points on the reward page ... Now you can only buy in game currency from select games, and different games that range in point price based off of relevance
no thanks to the 12 to 15 hour AAA game. Please stick to 50+ hours, I want to get what i pay for. If you are gonna screw around with bad short game durations, lower the price drastically.
I rather have a 12-15h game filled with great content than a 50h+ game that just has a lot of roadblocks and shit just to extend the time of it, or too large worlds so it just feels empty.

#4 should be #1 cuz this is going to monopolize the gaming industry.. seriously with all these gaming platforms being bought up it’s only going to get worse
The title should be "Weird Gaming Stories of October: Sins of the Publisher Edition"
IP is not bad. Current IP laws are bad.
No, IP is bad
well i’m sure more laws will help!
Speaking of these lawsuits, I thought we already saw Capcom get smacked trying it back in the Stone Age when they tried that Fighters History stunt. How are we reliving old cases?
It’s about to be a fart night.
Lol! IRC?! Falcon! That's such a throwback! Great video
Patenting gaming genres of must be one of the seven sins of modern era.
Edit : Also weird how Fntastic with their new shenanigans didn't made it into this list.
They are not patenting game genders because legally you can't do that Capcom tried that in the 80 with street fighter and got thrown out of court
You have to remember: Fortnight wasn’t originally the Fortnight we know and love. The flexibility and agility of the dev team should be the lesson learned.
Do you have a Halloween themed video planned?
Crazy how we went from people hating $2 horse armor, to people saying games should be free to play, and just charge for horse armor
"Hated" it so much it sold millions. I think what they disliked is the studios exposing their weak will power.
Y’all remember Freddy Fish and Putt Putt? Those games were the shit
I've been saying that for a while now. Not only will they be forcing digital only games on us, they will also be forcing subscriptions on us to play the game you just paid for. And once the modern gaming industry is all digital, the prices for games will skyrocket. I am completely done with modern gaming.
12:34 Imagine if from software decided to sue everyone who made a souls like, this is stupid 🙄
Sheshhh.......i cant imagine how catastrophic it will be, almost all the game reviewers and game dev put the word soulslike into their presentation or review to discribe the game
Falcon definitely had limewire back in the day
My favorite bird of prey 🦅🥺
The download/ patent genre argument is 100% love your honesty falcon!! Never change
Happy Halloween 🎃
That whole “changing your patent right before suing” thing is ridiculous and should be illegal.
10 Fiery Falcon rants of October 2024. Preach!
Oh please, they absolutely knew what they were doing with the horse armour, looking for new ways to fleece their customers.
How is it fleecing, you're not obligated to buy it. Too many people use buzz terms to define actions where the buzz words is not valid. A perfect example is GenZ calling out things as scams that don't qualify as scams.
Was Hoping for a Dragon Age Veilguard review. Did you not get a review code? I trust your reviews more than any other TH-camr.
I trust Jake the most. Falcon is cool, but Jake seems more down to earth.
I've been waiting too lol
Lol, you couldn't find more 'love everything' reviewers than Gameranx. Might as well trust IGN.
I trust falcon more. @@UwUOwl
@@Poppa_Capinyoaz really? Who do you recommend then?
Never forget that hubris and greed are never far from one another.
3:18 I remember in High school, a bunch of people mis-saw or mis-heard the price for the Nefarious Horse Armour and now I’d say its a legit Mandela Effect. People remember hating it, not just for being ‘just horse armor,’ but for also being *$20 USD* for ‘just horse armor…’
Obviously, it was $2.50
Incorrect. It was $25 and Bethesda has had an active disinformation campaign about the price for the past year or so.
Aaaah, an uno reverse mandela….. touché
weird gaming stories of the months has become my favorite from this channel! keep it up falcon!
lol hey we’re glad you’re enjoying them!
Did everyone forget about the fourth round of DLC for MechAssault in November of 2003 that costs 5 bucks? That's almost three years before horse armor, so "the first one in the water" wasn't Bethesda. They don't even deserve that credit....
This wasn't a list of 10 WEIRD Gaming Stories; it was 10 CORPORATE GREED Stories of October, which really made me angry.
As soon as you add cross play to a game, the P.C. cheaters come out of the woodwork.
Falcon sounding like he is a Napster Veteran, as well. Lol
Now just Imagine (don't take it serious) if Valve, Rockstar Games and even Mojang starts patenting genres, that would be a literal Thanos snap scenario to the gaming industry.
This series is the only way I can reasonably manage the crushing passage of time
I’m so tired of being forced to be connected to the internet to play single player games. Specially when being connected has no bearing whatsoever with what’s going on. More so when you have a hard copy of the game.
Patented genre on entertainment sounds like a dystopian corporate run world.
oh man, can you imagine another Obsidian Fallout? yes please.
the whole PSN issue and removing original Hoziron is so greedy. it's like they don't wanna give players the freedom NOT to buy a remaster because they know how much nobody would. and they wonder why people pirate games.
last good Obsidian Fallout was fallout 2
Even if they didn't replace it they would just raise the price of the original Horizon to be $10 less than the remaster to avoid people buying the original for $20 and then upgrading from that. There's a reason that Spider-man (2018) is still so expensive despite being 6 years old and a last gen game. Having a remaster upgrade prevents them from having to lower the price because it's no longer an "old game."
Bethesda, more than likely will never let them touch anything of theirs again because it makes them look real shitty at their jobs
We got it it's called the outer worlds. Thats what a modern obsidian fallout would look like.
Do you remember when these used to be actual weird gaming stories like a guy completing dark souls with guitar hero and not just complaining about money hungry publishers 😂
Yep. this videos used to be funny. Now they just make you angry about the state of the industry
$80 for 12 hours of entertainment is actually a pretty decent return, especially when compared to other branches of entertainment industry.
@@carlgibson285 okay, but let's compare apples to apples here...
Other AAA games give 60-100+ hrs.
Unless they're priced accordingly, it's hardly worth it.
@geewhizzywill1475 TBH I agree with you, I was just playing devil's advocate. I tend to only play games that I can sink months or even years into because I don't want to be constantly spending my money on new games (I'm still playing Skyrim on Xbox 360 and have sunk well over 2000 hours into it).
Horse armor had the best intentions but the road to hell is paved with good intentions 😂
Me and Falcon giving our computers STDs in the 90s downloading shisty music from questionable sources. 😂
I still have to get a shot every year to treat what I got from Lime wire!
Not just music, I downloaded Baldurs Gate, all 5 CDS, on a 33.6k modem. It took a week (or so) of 24/7 downloading, but it was worth it.
Get Josh Sawyer, Tim Cain, and Chris Avelone to make a Fallout game with no input from Todd Howard... and that is a recipe for success.
Nintedo going after a small game dev for making a card game? Wizards of the Coast should sue Nintendo.
No, sega is. Are you deaf?
I didn't know about it but Memento Mori looks ABSOLUTELY GORGEOUS !!
Good job as always, thank you for the video !
Thanks for watching!
Lmao Fortnite isn’t even a good game 😂.
It’s like a poor qualify Halo for children.
I mean, it's definitely subjective. It's not what I personally consider a good game, but I still get enjoyment out of playing it sometimes with my friends (or even by myself occasionally).
Before finishing the video let me Just say thank you gameranx so much for keep making this videos. I have no idea how many years I have been watching these already, and they still exite me everytime I hear falcons intros. Thanks, and please keep it going. I feel like everything good keeps ending for some reason, and it is being replaced for crappy time consuming videos, series, movies, games, any type of content really.
I wish the best for the team, it is the best for everyone really, specially your viewers of which I am part of. Thanks again!
nintendo hates people having fun in ways they do not intend.
Another change about PS Stars that pisses me off is the fact they shadow removed the ability to buy PS cards with your points on the reward page ... Now you can only buy in game currency from select games, and different games that range in point price based off of relevance
Ridiculous, that was one of the best things about PlayStation Stars
no thanks to the 12 to 15 hour AAA game.
Nah, not every game needs to be 50 hours or more.
Tell us you don't work or have a life without telling us lol
Copyrighting a genre is asinine for ALL arts! Imagine your favorite musicians did that in your favorite genre... music would die forever with those artists
IP’s may be bad, but a world without intellectual ownership would be worse. If people cant own one thing, they are just gonna start asking why you down other things. Before you know it, you dont even own the clothes you wear.
"The world would be worse without intellectual ownership"
You do realise Playstation and Nintendo have built their consoles on FOSS software - the gaming industry is built upon people releasing software under permissive licensing... You know how many game engines and studios are founded on IdTech being open source in the past?
"you dont even own the clothes you wear" that can only happen with IP laws. That is literally the opposite.
Ok perfect timing just got on the road at work 😂🎉
Perfect!
Fortnite is the worst game l played on my PS5 in my opinion.its not a game that l would take my time on,maybe if they didn’t charge money to get those fortbucks or whatever or maybe if it dint need Wi-Fi to play

@syrusbark lol you have no idea who Jake is to Gameranx, that's ok ... I suggest just watch someone else, there's plenty of others available
With the oversaturation of AAA games and the neglect of double-a games this has truly been the year of the indie developer
#3 yikes, looks like another Mechwarrior (Battletech) vs Harmony Gold, and I can't believe that went on as long as it did
The thing with World of Warcraft players is that most spend the majority of the game time playing WoW and rarely other games.
What games are you currently playing?

Diablo 4 Vessel of Hatred, some small indie games: Thronefall, EcoGnomix, ToyShire, Emberward, Pegidle.

The hold my beer while we ruin it line was on point an funny as hell
Falcon is as frustrated as the rest of us and I love it. We need a voice for the people.
OMG Falcon I used to get all my stuff from MIRC too back in the day too; a friend of mine rented server space so he could mass download a crap ton of stuff, so I can fully relate.🙃 Agree though patenting genre is just a greedy money grab from these multi-billion-dollar companies that just want profit all the F'n time that don't care who they step on, which ultimately loses gamers interest!
Falcon, you are like my old bitter spirit animal. I love ya bro.
That "Run Hamster" cosmetic reward from the battle pass is peak comedy.
I grew up being only a console gamer in the 80’s and 90’s, my family never having had enough money for a pc, but after getting a gaming pc last year finally at 40 I am definitely starting to lean more into pc gaming than my PS5
