Thank you so much for including our game and shouting out our Kickstarter! :D So many amazing gems on here too, its an honor to be shown alongside them.
I'm a playtester for Bo: Path of the Teal Lotus and the team thanks you for the shoutout and high praise of having it in your top 5. You won't be disappointed when you finally get to play it!
This was a really nice surprise - thanks for including my game (Faye Freelance)! I promise I'll have more to show next year-much more! I'm actively heads-down on lots of little (and big) things in it. I'm so happy to be included next to so many incredible games.
Hey Clemmy, thanks so much for including Moadra in your list - to quickly confirm, we are working full-time on the game and will post a proper update as soon as possible!
Hey Clemmy, thanks for including Ceplion! I'm still working on it. I'm not sure about the release date right now. But I'm not alone anymore. We are working on the project two people now! Thanks, everyone! Wishlists are appreciated :)
Your videos make my wishlist enormous , my backlog gigantic and empty my wallet! Keep up the good work and continue the amazing content and insight you provide in indie gaming community!
Soul Blade - Had a lot of panache in that trailer. Impressive. Ceplion - has great panned out perspective making the levels look more interesting and mixing combat and precision platforming is a double-feather in it's cap. Savior - Looks the part but it sounds like the development may not be keeping pace? Animal Well - Very stylistic aesthetic and distinct. Rebel Transmute - Hard not to like the retro samus look with a living environment (big bonus doing this). Twilight Monk - is onto a winner with that weapon: A big iron pillar-like thing that goes: "THONK!" How satisfying! The Siege And The Sandfox - Personally this might be my favourite style: A sense of real climbing around levels, sliding and hanging and, fingers-crossed, tossing bodies off ledges to dispose of the evidence... Could be Perfect! Bo: Path Of The Tea Lotus - That's my favourite art style so far: Glad you had a go and the combat/movement all feel slick to go with those visuals. Hollow Knight: Silksong - The movement is precise and controlled an acrobatic and feel dexterous: No wonder it's Top of the Wishlists. I feel like others for me would be more enjoyable but can see what's at the heart of this and agree should be a mega-indie hit.
Man, what a double surprise with Grime 2, and also Timespinner 2! Even the devs behind Lodoss War and 9 Years of Shadows got something? Maaaan what a year!
Solid selection of games, as always! Ghost Hand, Faye Freelance, Toziuha, Soul Blade, Rune Fencer Illyia, Ceplion, Altered Alma, Awaken Astral Blade, Savior, Hayaku, Rebel Transmute, Turbo Kid, Blade Chimera and Mariachi Legends all have caught my eye. I honestly don't know how I'd be able to discover all these games without your help.
Great list! Haven't seen Ghost Hand or Sheep Lad before, but they both look awesome, and apparently just got added to my wishlist. Can't wait for Momodora: Moonlit Farewell, Timespinner 2, and Silk Song. A few others that I'm really excited for (some of which we don't have much info on yet) are The Spirit of the Samurai, SESSIONS (sequel to REDO!), Winter Belle (sequel to Mystik Belle), Hargrave 2, The Maze of Galious Remake (apparentlly something the La Mulana devs were working on), and an untitled Metroid-inspired game that the Chasm dev is allegedly making (this time hand-designed with no procedural generation).
the sponsor's game, Everdeep Aurora, looks nice along with Soul Blade, Ghost Hand, Faye Freelance... too many. Thank you a LOT for also adding in links.
I am eagerly looking forward to "The Siege and the Sandfox." I have it on my wish list. "Faye Freelance: Rebel Reporter" looks really really good too. It kinda reminds me of "Iconoclasts." This is a great metrovania list. Thank you for sharing this with us.
Too many good picks coming up, but for now my focus will be on Everdeep Aurora, Selini and Altered Alma next to the sequels to Hollow Knight and Grime. Thank you so much for this list! It surely will be another fantastic year of playing indie games.
Been becoming quite love-hate with the combo style metroidvanias because I love trying them out, but the button mashing eventually becomes so insane that I'm worried that ill break my controller again (yup again, the atk speed build in Skul forced me to have to mash so much that the membrane under my buttons snapped, causing me to lose that run ). But yeah, going to wish list a bunch of these and see how i feel when they eventually release.
What a huge list! So the chances were high to find a one new to me, which in this case was Soul Blade. Thanks for digging that up! But there is another highly anticipated MV for me, that probably is also new to you: DEVIATOR. Regarding "What is a MV?": I always tell people it has two core mechanics: 1. An ability based progression system & 2. An interconnected world with environmental story telling. All other variation 2D vs. 3D or side-scrolling vs. top-down view lead to sub-genres. So yes, from my point of view there can be a combat-less MV.
Fantastic video, added a couple to my wishlist and hard to argue with the top 3. I was surprised nine sols didn't make the top 50 though especially as it's due q1 2024
Rune Fencer Illyia, Siege and the Sandfox, Saviour, Mariachi Legends, Momodora, Bo: path of the the teal lotus, Nine Sols, and of course, Silksong, are all on my most anticipated list. I saw a promising demo of saviour a while back - hope it isn't a dead duck. Edit: Ah, and the new prince of Persia could be interesting, as a non-indie one.
I would have loved to see Plague Huntress in there. While the game has seen little communication for a while the devs did tweet about it a few months ago and said they wouldn't communicate much for a while because they were basically working head down (so I expect they'll come back once significant progress has been made).
hi Clemmy! thank you for covering all the indie games.. Please add Nuke Them all, our new upcoming indie RTS. "Nuke Them All" is an exciting indie RTS game set to launch in 2024, and we've already released the Demo, which is why we're reaching out to Steamers. It's a unique game in the style of classic golden-era RTS titles like Z, KKND, and C&C Red Alert. The primary objective is to capture flags and territories, speeding up production, upgrading factories, and ultimately destroying the enemy fort!
I hope many people will notice and support Dewborne, I really liked what I saw. A lot of very cool metroidvania that will have to be released. Simply amazing.
It sucks that half of these great looking games are only on PC wish they were available for the Switch! Like #45 & #46 Toziuha Night: Order Of The Alchemists looks really good like the Castlevania Gameboy Advance games which are some of my all time favorites!
Another year goes by and Silksong still nowhere in sight... I really hope they are cooking Metroidvania 2 in Team Cherry's studio hehe. If half the games of this video release in 2024, we will have a GIGANTIC year for Metroidvanias. Awesome compilation Clemmy! Cheers!
@@ClemmyGames I guess he means 2d combat with low and high attacks, and a top view overworld that transitions into 2D combat/explorations. Idk, I just thought I'd mention what he himself said.
Dewborn Dawn looks interessting, but with the "go where you want" approach, they hopefully make it still challanging if you finished the first two bosses of whatever route you have chosen. Faye Freelance: Rebel Reporter Hhhhhmmmm ...OOOOHHHH JOY, I just saw it's full of Metroid Vania titles. I can feel sometimes like I hate everything, but then there are actually titles that just hit the mark. Biomancer is good too, hopefully. Altered Alma fourth promising title. Everything I could see fail, but everything also has elements that I would like to see making the game really great. Gestalt Steam and Cinder good good. It played really well, which really convinced me. Being and Becoming, well I think it was the look here. Timespinner, sad that it's not the main char again I liked the relationship, but I hear weird things even if I should like this.
Damn. The more games there are, the smaller I want them to be. Just focusing on Street Fighter 6 like an FGC person for the first time n my life ever is grabbing time from everything. I have over 600 games on my Steam wishlist & time for 2 max. A lot of these games look amazing but I doubt I'll play most of them.
Fun fact: the word "chiaroscuro" means "the treatment of light and shade in drawing and painting" and is a very interesting word to use in AI art prompts.
I think a game can still be metroidvania without combat. For instance, the game could replace boss-fights with challenging platforming, which would put it somewhere between metroidvania and Celeste.

Great list as usual. I think you forgot Earthblade, the metroidvania by the Celeste devs.
They didn’t say it’s a metroidvania though
Ive been waiting for Heart Forth, Alicia for over a decade. Wish I had the money to pay for it and see it coming to the daylight...
Bo path of the teal lotus looks like Akami’s art style.

It also means..complete Hollow Knight rip off.

I think a game can still be metroidvania without combat.
