Man I am now 40 and have just discovered turn based games and I have to say its both fun and holy crap and fairly challenging. When I say challenging its cause I haven't tried the genre. Was use to Baldurs gate 1 and 2 and Icewind Dale 1 and 2 and I am now kinda spreading my wings a bit.
Nice list thx. I really enjoy with Abalon, Slay the spire, Monster train, For the king. If you looking for more try this great games: Legend of Keepers, Dice & Fold, SpellRogue, Across the Obelisk, Hellcard.
Amazing list, one of the best lineups I have seen for the genre, I am probably only missing FTL and original desktop dungeons here, and maybe Ring of Pain (to a less degree), but its truly very solid overall. I'd love more points on what make the games better than others in the genre and worth the try. Banners of ruin and Wildfrost are probably the only two that are probably overrated for appearing here (they kinda died pretty fast, same as roguebook). Also an honorary mention goes to the grandfather that inspired Slay the spire in the first place. Dream Quest!! Its still amazing regardless of looking so simple in graphics! Still a great game and the most huge inspiration out of them all!
For me , this is a one game list with Slay the Spire in it. Endless replayability and easily the hardest and most demanding of the bunch. Next to purchase will be the last spell, if it ever goes on sale Probably additional honorable mentions can go to Roguebook and FTL itself, another roguelike grandaddy. Going on another discovery tour in the Sunless sea, back in 60 hours or so...
Although I don't like losing a character, I really liked Darkest Dungeon (you must learn what to expect in the dungeon before going so you can prepare a good run with enough materials). I really liked the added new families in Monster Train and all the conmbinations encouraged me to do more runs. Slay the Spire was ok...too hard for my taste after some updates... Banners of Ruin was a big no for me. I tried but I could not enjoy it. Loop Hero was good but too repetitive and grindy. Griftlands is a masterpiece. I'm still playing it (again, going back to it regularly) and love the relations you make with the npc you encouter to make them your friends/allies or ennemies and all this results in gameplay mechanics. This "little" aspect give this roguelike more roleplay than the so called "rpg"s. Also the stories are really entertaining and that's coming from someone who "skip" the dialogues or who grumbles when there are too much dialogue and only wants to play a quick game. I had fun with Wildfrost demo. It's still on my wishlist /blush. Backpack Hero is fun and original :) Here a little more from my list : - The dungeon beneath : autobattler though but good race synergies. - Forward : escape the fold - quick games and simple - Legend of Keepers : how could you forget this one :P - Monster Slayers : don't let the art style fool you it's a great game. - Nowhere Prophet : the caravan stuff is original (your troops die if they are defeated twice unless you let them rest) - Overfall : nice tactical roguelike and many elements/secrets to unlock and many many random events.
Indeed. I was defeated in the second encounter because there was a ship that automatically moved completely to the right or left with each attack I made.......hahahaha
This seem like a list from ChatGPT. First most of this seem like a google or IGN article. There literally is 0 personal opinion (we cant even tell if you played the games). Also having start renegade on this list in 2023 kinda proves that. The game was great when it came out but the dev due to reasons dropped the game. No updated. The bugs in game are still there and many of them are game breaking. DLC promised never happened. Overall, with so many other games like tainted grail, inkbound, and other shoudlnt be there. Either way like I said usually some personal opinion of your experience would go a long way.
Retry, retry and retry again for some random event to trash your "progress" is the worst game mechanic in my opinion. It is boring and totally non-immersive. Why people like it?
Its a genre. Why do people like horror movies? Why do people like documentaries? Why do people like comedy? Some people like the aspect of risk and reward with a little bit of luck. Also most of these games once you learn how they work you literally can get close to 100% win rate. Then again you seem like a Cry more type of dude.
Thank you for featuring Deepest Chamber in the video! We appreciate the recognition and are stoked to be part of the lineup.
Our pleasure! :)
Thanks so much for featuring Astrea
Grazie a te. Astrea is so original both in concept and gameplay. Congrats 👍😊
Astrea is absolutely amazing and unique, thank you so much for delivering such a masterpiece!
Great video. Found some new gems to try out, thank you kindly. :)
Great to hear! Grazie :)

Awesome 👌 👏
STAR RENEGADE
Backpack Hero FTW! Not just for its unique mechanics, but for the catchy soundtrack that won't get unstuck once heard.

thanks for the list, I like turn-based rogue lites that uses the upgrade/card system like Vampire Surviors

Slay the spire is fun but monster train is just better for me.
a lot of great games on this list, Into the Breach, StS, Last Spell, Shogun Showdown, Cobalt Core
Indeed :)
I love seeing Abalon in this list; terribly underrated game, IMO!
Indeed. And i can say it's a very challenging game :)
Wicked list. Discovered or rediscovered some really good games. If I could make a suggestion, Steam links to each game would be very helpful
Grazie for the tips :)
Thank you for featuring dotAGE!!!
for anyone around trying to discover new fun games i must tell you that " the last spell" was the most fun i had in a game in 2023
Good stuff , Beneath Oresa really surprised me, great game
Indeed 👍😊
RIP Tainted Grail. That game is absolutely underrated.
great video, I would also suggest Tainted Grail, One Step From Eden, Neoverse, Doors Of insanity and Alina Of The Arena
My favourites here are Inscryption, Shogun Showdown and Cobalt Core. Addicted to all of them.
when for the king 1 is in the intro i trust you.
Although I don't like losing a character, I really liked Darkest Dungeon (you must learn what to expect in the dungeon before going so you can prepare a good run with enough materials).

bro play star renegades, is a masterpiece
Ahhh great games you mentioned. It was very hard to choose which one to keep out. 😪
Wonderful list here...thanks!
thanks to you my friend :)
Shogun showdown is god tier
Cobalt Core is great with an amazing OST.
Indeed. I was defeated in the second encounter because there was a ship that automatically moved completely to the right or left with each attack I made.......hahahaha
Gordian Quest would fit here also :)
Indeed. It's a great missing :)
I’d like to offer up Deep Sky Derelicts - hopping between space hulks scavenging for work has never been more fun!
Indeed, DSD it's very good :) Thank you :)
Its a bit lacking at the start but it gets funnier indeed!
Thanks, looking for something after Transistor and Midnight Suns
Tainted Grail is another one. Came out of nowhere for me and has somehow already nicked 70 hours from me
it's incredible the number of games in this sub-genre... Tainted Grail is another great addition :)
Chrono Ark should be on this list and top 3.
Awesome list! But where is Buriedbornes? One of the best roguelikes out there but is always criminally overlooked
I know they are apparently all the rage as evidenced by half the titles displayed, but I don't particularly care for deck builders.
Крутой подбор игр! Почти во все играл! 💪👍
Thank you
You're welcome :)
How many will be left in this list if you remove deck builders?
Is Beneath Oresa ever coming to console??
No news for now...
I could not recommend Star Renegades or Shogun Showdown more!
Indeed. Awesome games
Well if this video isn't proof that deckbuilding is overdone, I don't know what is. Whenever I see deckbuilding in anything, I automatically skip it.
Yeah same!!!
Overdone maybe.
Very few have done it so well other than slay the spire
I skip what is not deckbuilding personnaly
I thought the same till I tried Midnight Suns
@@Amospotteroexactly this lol
I’m. currently playing the last spell. It’s so good. lol 😂 even I’m having a hard time beating the first map.
hahaha. Don't worry it's all normal, some of these are very hard games :)
@@TurnBasedLovers lol I just did it! Omg I finally slay those three harpies on my 6 tries 😂
Star renegades is a good game, I played a lot in year 2021. however its optimization is suck, it make your gpu/cpu burn like in hell like AAA game lol
Indeed. I must try it again with my new pc :)
Gordian Quest
Try Chrono Ark
Should be board games
I think shardpunk is worht mentioning too
Damn, it's a great missing :) Thanks

25 games and no timestamps, this is just low effort
Ciao, timestamps are there, but i don't know why, they don't show up :(
Oh I see them now. good job.
👍
bulls
As a loather of anything deckbuilding, this list is so short :(
Retry, retry and retry again for some random event to trash your "progress" is the worst game mechanic in my opinion. It is boring and totally non-immersive. Why people like it?

this video was sponsored by useless deckbuilding clones
hahaha. I love your comments :)
Agree, 90% of the list is pure garbage
@@IghorMaia de gustibus
What style of game would you like to see more of instead? Were any of the listed games interesting to you?
First!
Awesome :)
