@@daviddickey9762 no, that's what I'm saying, it's not the kind of job that has any dissuasion for people worried about those types of things.
*So* need to do a short series on basic skills like “How to shuffle”.
That brand/type of punch is a very good tool for gaff making. The small punch is nearly identical to the 3mm round on new cards... making it perfect for rerounding corners on a DIY stripper deck, or on DIY end/side shorts.
this is a trick designed to be shown to magicians. the way he shuffled at the start it at least appeared to me that he was keeping the top card the same. this action threw me off the scent of what he was actually doing.

I'm not sure if it's accurate to say they don't know *any* magic before coming onto the show. For one thing, Brian calls Penny a 'relative non-magician', suggesting that she knows at least a little bit. For another, her guess was that Alex had retained the card while everyone else was shuffling (which was my first thought as well); it's certainly possible for someone who knows nothing about magic to think that, but it seems more likely to come from someone who is already familiar with some of the literal tricks of the trade.
@@sheetedkid I’d imagine he’d at least teach her to be able to hold a deck of cards though you know?

The way Penny talked about the wizard kind of echoed a previous episode of Scam School where that guy shouted, "DIE, WIZARD!"

I know a really great way of marking those decks (both red and blue). I've tested the marked cards on a bunch of people and nobody knew they were marked. In fact even after I told the person they were marked they couldn't spot how they were marked.
I've only ever seen Alex on "the trick that left Brian speechless", so "always find their card" seems par for the course 😆

Very nice. The whole thing could have gone pear shaped if there was a smoosh shuffle in there or if half of the cards got flipped over at any stage.

I've seen Josie in quite a few videos, but I don't believe I've seen Penny (or your youngest). Both Penny and Josie have great personalities (from their mom?) but I definitely see the resemblance to you in Penny.
It keeps seeming like being a Brushwood kid means being encouraged to be yourself, benefiting from parents who value experiential education, and having fun. YET, I won't be fully convinced until a kiddo gets to be involved in an explosion and/or fire. ;)

I called that it was a short but not a corner short, and definitely not that it would be ALL the cards though I did consider a stripper deck for a few. That said, I have the corner short machine less than 5 inches from my feet right now.

I thought it was a stripper deck and was sure Penny discombobulated it when she went to riffle shuffle it. The most magical thing was how Alex grabbed the right card and made it fly out of the deck, but that must be a trade secret or at least an advanced skill that won't be covered here...
Actually I they did an episode on how to do that! I think it's called the boomerang card trick
@@eddotron1224 you're likely right. That sounds familiar. I'm still amazed at how fast he repositions the card, though. You can tell he mastered that skill.
She split the deck for the riffle, not rotated it. It kept the orientation.

Let's not forget, Alex Rangel is the one who brought us "Dark Magic". Now he brings us another "Impossibility" that can be performed repeatedly.
"Dark Magic" is what they used to call me in High School.
This is the only way I know how to shoot cards. I see other people do it the other way (with a straddle grip) and I cannot get it for the life of me.

You can riffle all day, keeps the orientation just fine.
@@alexrangel3177 I should clarify, when I riffle the top cards end up 180 degrees from each other. A more universal one, for clarity, would be what if the deck was washed?

Also, just tried it with a stripper deck and it works almost as well (the riffle needs to be a bit more precise, but good nonetheless).

Totally! Keep an eye out for that and have a back-up trick in case that happens. It’s all playing by ears!

@@theplatitudefromouterspace1686 Yes, but riffles don't mean the two halves have to combine in opposite orientations. You can see around 4:56 where Penny is turning them so they'll stay the same way.
