    I love all of your work complicated or not. Been a fan from episode one. My favorite trick is the simplest, the static straw spin. I was in a McD's with my nieces and randomly said "Want to learn a magic trick?" I apparently said it loud enough for most of the people to hear. All of a sudden I had the whole restraint watching the kiddos moving a straw with there minds. Damn good crowd pleaser.

    You say "3 years," but I remember getting into the back catalogue of Scam School on Revision 3 like 11 years ago, and even that was a few years after the first Scam School episode aired.
    In just a few days (on April 6th) it'll be the 13-YEAR anniversary of the first episode of Scam School airing on Rev3. That's CRAZY, man.
    Damn, time flies. Congrats on everything, and I can't thank you enough for singlehandedly reviving my childhood love of slight of hand. I've learned so many awesome things from your videos over the years from the magic and bar scams everyone expects to learn, to wild psychology and social engineering hacks, and even got some of my all-time favorite book suggestions from your show.
    I still maintain that we need a Modern Rogue Book Club, or a Scam Nation Book Club. _How to Win Friends and Influence People; Influence: The Psychology of Persuasion; The CIA Manual of Trickery and Deception_ ; there are so many incredible books I learned about from you, or because of your show in one way or another.

    The reason that the trick at 18:22 works is because we use a Base-10 counting system. (We use digits 0-9 and then you move over a column.) Do the same trick with any other base counting system (We will call it Base-x) and the result will always be x - 1.

    • @gordonastley
      @gordonastley ปีที่แล้ว

      I couldn’t follow the maths. Can someone give me the formula, please?

    • @Lightning_Lance
      @Lightning_Lance ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@gordonastley in simple words, all you need to know is if a number is divisible by 9, then the sum of it's digits will be divisible by 9. And the new number made by the sum of the digits of the previous, since that is divisible by 9, then the sum of IT'S digits will also be divisible by 9. So as long as the original number is divisible by 9, then you can keep reducing the number in this way until you get to 9.
      And anything that involves 3 * 3 at some point (or any multiples of 3) will be divisible by 9, so you make someone multiply enough numbers together at the start and it's practically guaranteed.

      its less about being simple minded than it is about over thinking it, my instant reaction was the king, but i thought about it and it felt obvious so quickly reasoned that 4 looks innocuous, sort of the underdog there and switched to that. theres a small window of time the trickster has to allow you just enough time to second guess yourself before forcing the next part. simple tricks like these go pretty deep into how our minds work lol

    I like that card trick, it's clever psychology, the center calls your attention already and it's an ace so you think obviously that's the one so you're changing your mind. The black 7 is the odd one out so it's the obvious next choice to skip. 4 is the next closest option and it's out. King would be an obvious one to avoid as it's the very first. I went with the 9 based off all that ^

    I picked the king of hearts. In my head I knew I was being primed to pick something less obvious, so I intentionally picked the most obvious one. This was all subconscious of course, but I found it interesting.

    I picked the 7 of clubs BECAUSE it was obvious, because I knew that you'd know that I won't pick the obvious choice.
    Which means that the obvious choice is the cards who are not obvious which makes the 7 of clubs not obvious.

    I picked the 7 of clubs. Only one black card meant I should pick it, because I should’ve done it, so there was no way that was going to be the card.

    the 4.5 trick is good...I know another 9's trick thats cool too. But on this one, if Im at a bar, I say - "look I got change in both my pockets (tap tap) - chose a pocket (each has 4.5 cents and other stuff that I keep segregated....) I pull them out - jingle in my hand - and put them into a napkin. Then progress from there - adds a wee bit of more mystery......I thought jeez if Im cutting a penny in half then I might as well us both....adds another layer of randomness to the mark. Works every time....just only do it once though as per usual.

    4:30 I have been the victim of this trick and done it twice to people twice, a loooong time ago. I solved it with some nimble fingers, victim 1 solved it by grabbing the glass with the mouth. Victim 2 just dumped it on the floor "your trick, your floor".

    Did the 4 of Hearts trick for my wife and that's the card she picked. Funny thing was, when I grabbed a deck to search for the 5 required cards, the very first card I saw, as I turned the deck over, was the 4 of Hearts at the bottom of the deck. So good trick, but how'd the hell did you manage that, lol.

    I picked the 9 of diamonds. I did eliminate the Ace and King immediately due to their popularity, but I was deciding between the 7 of clubs and the 9. In this case, I would've "won". So is there a way around this or do you just go with the odds and hope it works? And, I assume, you can only play the odds, but how do you play it off if they don't pick the correct card?

    Not gonna lie, in the second trick, after you talked about the ace in the middle and to choose a card I knew it was some type of force, and it made me look at the 4 and I was about to choose it but I chose the 9 because I thought that somehow it would be the 4 and that’s exactly what you would want. Not to be “oh I outsmarted it!” It’s more like I had naturally wanted to choose the 4, and in doing so I chose against my natural choice because I thought it might be the one he chose?? If that makes sense! Cool trick though!! That’s cool how that exact set up makes you naturally want to choose the 4

    The number nine trick works because as soon as you add the sum of any number above nine then subtract it from the original number that number will become divisible by 9 . Any number that the sum of the numbers equal nine , will be divisible by nine - examples 18 27 36 45 54 or the sum will be equivalent to a multiple of 9 .

  • @ProfessorJayTee

    Exactly. The four of hearts is 1) the only even card, but it's 2) NOT the center-of-the-spread Ace [which seems too obvious a choice], 3) NOT the only black card [and too obvious], 4) NOT the only face card [and too obvious], and 5) NOT an end card [and too obvious]. My experience with similar tricks tells me that the four should be chosen by more than 80% of the people asked.
