I’m well aware I said in the video to go slow,and I also said to go fast, but I mean that in the fact that every pig is different. I was able to go slower with Latte because he’s calmer and allowed me to bathe him longer. I went faster with Mocha because he started to freak out ALOT more. So hop off my ass and stop trying to discredit this whole video just because I said that. 🙄 You bathe your guinea pigs a different way? That’s great. This way works for my pigs and there is no way that is more “correct” or better. rude comments will be deleted
I completely understood why you were slower with Latte, going fast would of stressed him. He did very well esp for the first time bath. Mocha was a little scared so being a little quicker with him was necessary, you could see he wasn’t as delighted as Latte was lol you also did a great job cutting their nails, they didn’t budge. Thank you for making this informative and helpful video for piggie owners.

I have two guinea pigs currently they are both males and they have been together since birth. I currently have them in a 7.5 sq feet cage which I know is not big enough. I was wondering if I get one more 7.5 sq ft cage and attached it to the other one will it be big enough for them. I know there is a 10 sq ft minimum for two female guinea pigs is it the same for males? Will 15 sq feet be enough for them?
Your guinea pigs are so calm during nail clippings!! Mines go absolutely crazy as soon as I touch their nail with the nail clipper :/

Great advice and yes you should very rarely wash guinea pigs. I only give my pigs a bath if they get urine or poop on them.(or the vet tells me to)!!
Also I wash them in my bath tub in a bucket with guinea pig soap. I only wash there backs and tummies and do very shallow water. You are a great pet TH-cam and I am a fan of this great care advice!!!!! 💗✨💫

I used to have guinea pigs when I was younger, but as I watch your videos, I realize that my family and I didn't take care of them properly. We didn't use the correct enclosure but we did allow them to roam my parents' room from time to time. I don't plan on getting them again but if I do then I know more now. I've had piggies for years but the way you had your finger under their chins and with the gardening gloves!! What a good idea! - made nail clipping look so much easier! I'm going to try it because I normally have to get my bf to help me! 😂 The shaking is normally considered to be a natural shivering response to maintain their temperature so don't worry too much about that. I have a little longhaired boy and he really appreciates his baths. The antifungal shampoo you used is great, you can actually use it as a preventative for mites/fungal infections so it's fine to use even on piggies that don't seem to be itchy ❤️

You need to give them a bath with every seasonal change that’s what’s recommended once a year isn’t healthy for them you shouldn’t wait until they’re uncomfortable to give them a bath

I totally feel, I have to bathe my hedgehog at least once a month and he despises them so I have to bathe him fast and wash his quills quickly so he’s not in there too long. otherwise he gets overly stressed and no one needs a pissed off, stressed animal lol.

I never knew you were meant to bath them I thought they were like rabbits that you should never bath them but I don’t have guinea pigs I don’t a lot about them I have rabbits It looks so much easier to cut Guinea pig nails than rabbit 😂
My friend had rabbits years ago and I remember trying to help her cut their nails. It was awful! Plus one of them had brown fur so she had black nails and it was so hard to see the quick!
Only if they absolutely need it no more than 3 times a year on a completely healthy pig.
They shouldn’t have bathes regularly but they can have them a few times a year. It also depends on the guinea pig if their nails are easy to cut. My one guinea pig will scream like literally scream and try to get out of my arms because she hates it that bad lol

Another animal I think youd love is a Hedgehog. I have a male named Archie and hes so perfect. They need the same cage setup as a Guinea pig but also a heat lamp and they eat kibble.

I am a piggie mom of 5. If they are itchy and don't have any signs of ringworm, check for hay mites! Gorgeous Guineas Lice n' Easy shampoo works well. Luckily hay mites are not a big deal, just annoying to the guineas.
I’m doing research for when I get my pigs within the next month. I understand not to wash them a whole lot but how often should I cut the nails
I have 9 guinea pigs and I typically try to cut their nails every 3 or 4 weeks because of how fast their nails grow. Hope this helped

piggy nails grow fast so i clip my piggles nails every 2 weeks and i only do a lil bit every clipping so her quick will go further in and i can do it more often so she wont attack me and she will get used to it :D
I rarely bathe my guineapig I only do it if she’s in her crate and she poops or pees on her (Crate when doing her cage it’s a dog crate) I only bathe her with water in the sink with either the sink putting a little bit of water or spraying her

I've been super nervous to give my piggies a bath, bc my guinea pigs are two years old and they are pretty stinky.
So cute! But I’m a little confused. You said the cage needs to be completely cleaned after a bath but I seen their cage looking fairly dirty with poop and such. Is a little bit like that okay? I’m getting my daughter a piggie for Christmas. So we’re doing all the research we can before hand! I work as a vet technician but we surprisingly don’t see Guinea pigs very often, at all!
I meant just newer bedding. There is always going to be poop and hay in the enclosure no matter how much you clean. Also you can’t just have one piggie, they are herd animals and need to be kept in groups of at least two

It’s the same. Short haired pigs rarely need bathing though
So my piggies, I use human nail clippers, and hubby holds each pig while I cut. Works for us. But my piggies don’t like it.
Also, I hold my piggies the whole time. But that’s a good idea about the oil and the grease gland. My pigs need a clean too.
I also add shampoo to the water. So shampoo water, then extra shampoo on their wet fur. :)
My vet also recommended cleaning their genitals during bath time as well.
Human nail clippers aren’t suitable for guinea pig nails. Please don’t do this as there nails aren’t like ours.

Curious why your pigs are so feral? I know you got them super young do you let them out and hangout with them everyday? I’ve been wanting a pair in the future just wondering if some simply don’t want human interaction even if you work with them and try?
They aren’t actually feral lol it’s a joke. And they actually let me pet and hold them everyday but I have to go slow with them. Guinea pig are like humans they all have different personalities. They are also prey animals so they are always on edge with interactions it’s normal
@@AlyssaNPets okay haha I figured it was I just took it as they don’t really care for people interaction much. I had one when I was much younger, and didn’t have proper set up of course because I was very young and didn’t know any different at the time and I did try to interact with her but she just wasn’t having it generally but I figured with the improper foot and home now that could have been part of the issue and would love to eventually get another WITH a proper set up just didn’t know if that was a I guess more common personality trait in pigs since most people tend to I guess share their more friendly happy piggies on the internet I feel like I don’t hear people mention quite a lot arnt too social.
When they were babies I did also work 10-12 hours everyday so I wasn’t able to give them as much attention as I do now. They have definitely gotten a lot better since I’m able to spend all day with them. My pig Kevin is completely used to me and I can pick him up and he will cuddle into me! It just depends on the personality sometimes

I understand ur not supposed to bath them often but with my Peruvian and alpaca guinea pigs it’s just a totally different story with them I have the bath each and everyone of them at least three or four times a year just because of how smelly the backend gets from the long fur and I do cut it just some times some scissors and baby wipes don’t do it 😂🙂

They can have green leaf lettuce, red lettuce and romaine lettuce yes. They can NOT have iceberg lettuce mainly just because it has no nutritional value. They're tons of guides online that show you what guinea pigs can and cannot eat.
