Glad to see the turbo 300 going into a vehicle. But solid mounting the engine? It's not that hard to build some strong mounts using poly leaf spring bushings, some tubing and plate. You should give Advance Adapters a call and get one of their Ranger Gear splitter boxes to add OD.

I'm sorry.. but you guys went with a cheap clutch that will be easily smoked the first time you really give it gas! That engine puts out twice the power the clutch you picked up can handle. Those clutches don't even last in a stock vehicle, let alone a I6 that is putting out really solid power
Yep and they could of built some bullet proof mounts. Just by using some poly leaf spring bushings, Some tubing and plate. And it wouldn't have been much more work.
Nice to see the turbo 300 go in a truck! But really, those torque numbers at low RPM are at WOT. Wouldn't a 302 at 30% throttle / 2500 RPM has the same torque than the six cyl at 30% throttle at 2500?
Six in a row to make it go. As for the fe no you just need a specific bell housing. A np435 will work great behind a 300 i6, a 351w,c or m, a 360, a 390, a 427, a 429 or a 460. Only ford truck i had in the past that didn't give me any problems was a f150 short bed 4x4 with a efi 300 with true duals and a 5 speed manual. Love my 2015 ram 3500 drw with its straight 6. Should have gone with a 5.9 6 banger with a high flow lift pump and a bigger turbo. Might be cheaper than those set ups and probably have similar if not more power. But every does that hahaha 😂😂😂
If you could have found a front motor mount of a 1965 or 1966 f350 it’s similar to the one that the 223 had you could have simply bolted the 300 like the 223. My 1966 f350 with the 300 six uses a front motor mount similar to the 223.
I really like the show. You guys do really good stuff, however, it seems like a real waste to not at least put a heavy duty overdrive transmission in this truck. With the low gears in the rear end and the new power plant, it just seems like something that's going to have to happen eventually.
The most fitting option for that truck would be an Advance Adapters Ranger gear/torque splitter box. It's basically a mini transmission that bolts between the bellhousing and the transmission. It adds another shifter and turns that 4 spd into a 8spd! So you could split every gear if you want or just use it for the OD gear. Plus it's much tougher then the add on OD units like gear vendors, etc. The other choice is an old Spicer/Brownie box, 3 spd auxlillary transmission. It divorce mounts between the transmission and rear axle. It also gives you a addition low range along with a OD gear.
So lame that you didn't just get a new 11" pressure plate for the 300 and an 11" disc for the t98. That QT bellhousing is NOT "the only way" to fit them together. At least you kept it manual shift.
To be "that guy..." why not clean up the engine bay, chassis, and drivetrain more? It's also laughable to put an OE spec clutch behind an engine that makes six times the power than the original engine did. That engine deserves better treatment.
You guys should mod a pair of LS 5.3 heads to work on the 300 and then regrind and weld the crank to 4.375 stroke or 4.425 max stroke to get around 345 to 348 cid lol
Aftermarket aluminum Cleveland heads are a better choice Or some old Nascar 4.5 V6 SVO heads. Stroking the 300 crank just weakens it and makes a bad rod ratio even worse. And reduces the RPM limit even more. Plus you don't need a stroker when you've got the turbo. Better off getting a steel 300 crank, grinding down the rod journals to a smaller diameter and giving them a larger radius. That adds strength. Then go with a longer rod and shorter/lighter pistons.
@@Fordman7575 if done right with a turbo setup or hell a billet crank with thst stroke and the turbo would be fine to 5K rpm, people already are pushing 11K out of the 3.98 stroke but using longer rods and shorter pistons to reduce side loading, they topped the motor out where the longer stroke would be fine anyway
@@Project-gr6zy 11K? Billet crank? You've got more money then me!! Might as well run one of the old A.J. Billet heads then too. Better go billet block too. Because the block will be the weak link. There's absolutely no need for additional stroke. We are talking about a 64 F350 dually here, not a drag car. They ran these 300's na with very low compression in F600's. A modified 300 with a turbo will be plenty for that old dually.
@@Fordman7575 the guys rocking the 11k are running 18:5 compression on a mildly modded block, added bearings to the cam, and LS style heads, the top of the block a torque plate is installed, if i remember right its in the realm of 9K to build a 700HP NA 300
@@Project-gr6zy Remember this is an old farm truck dually, not a competition drag car. It's got 4 wheel drum brakes with old wheel cylinders. What part of that screams for the engine you are describing?
I am one who liked a hand brake on the transmission, don't see any provision for it here... also liked bellhousing that had its own frame mounts like the original did...
@@161Sheriff I would stay away from the ZF 5spd's. They have multiple issues and from what I've heard replacement parts are getting hard to find for them. You could use a dodge NV4500 but that would take some creative adapting. They aren't cheap, but I like the Advance Adapters Ranger torque/gear splitter. It's a small but strong auxiliary OD transmission that bolts in between the bellhousing and 4spd transmission. It does add a second shifter and moves the original transmission back like 7" or 7.5" inches though. But I like multiple shifters. Then there is always the old Spicer/Brownie Box 3 spd divorce mount auxiliary transmission. They give you another low range, direct drive and a OD gear.
The old 4 spd's are pretty bullet proof. They aren't as weak as the newer stuff. About the worse you'll get out of them is worn synchro's or noisy input shaft bearing.

I was hoping for a zf5
I am one who liked a hand brake on the transmission, don't see any provision for it here... also liked bellhousing that had its own frame mounts like the original did...
Haul something with it.
Hyper ford 300
I would like to see a300 w/a bullet proof ford auto trans,mater-conversion!!!(that right,I said ford mater w/the happy face grille?wanna lease 1
I’m making the same 223/300 swap on a 63 F250
It's almost a bolt in swap if you can find the front mount and bellhousing out of a F600 with a 300.
@@Fordman7575 Thanks. I didn’t think about going that direction. The truck has 4.86 or 4.88 rear gears. I’m leaning towards a modern 5 speed
@@161Sheriff Just don't solid mount the engine like they did!
Cool
I want that truck
Any trans refresh? or straight from the junk yard to thrashing it?
The old 4 spd's are pretty bullet proof. They aren't as weak as the newer stuff. About the worse you'll get out of them is worn synchro's or noisy input shaft bearing.
Your so good 😊
how long do you reckon Pat spends getting his stuff in his pockets? Got everything you want!
I wish all "backwood mechanics" used witness marks!
